View image Sexy time for celebrate nice reviews! Borat like to disco dance with men from village. Also Greenwich Village. And City of Brotherly Love.
This doesn't happen very often. On RogerEbert.com today we have four 4-star reviews in a row.
Roger Ebert reviews the latest installment in Michael Apted's lifelong documentary series, "49 Up.'
I have reviews of:
"Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan," a documentary about a foreign journalist... NOT! (You will only understand this joke if you see movie film.)
"Old Joy," a meditative journey into the backwoods of an old friendship.
"51 Birch Street," a son's quietly astonishing look at his parents' "ordinary" marriage.
That ought to keep you busy this weekend.
Hi, Jim,
Thanks for the reviews and your work in being webmaster of Roger Ebert's domain.
I have a suggestion, though: Could you please make it more clear which reviews are by Roger and which are by you? The very first time Roger came back, you labeled his reviews with an "Ebert:" prefix, which I thought was great.
I was wondering if you could please label your reviews' titles with "Emerson" or something? Especially since the rogerebert.com main page doesn't even have a disclaimer about your being the author of the reviews any more. (Also, the stars at the top of your reviews still say "Ebert: ****", which is misleading.)
I've noticed at least one person mistaking one of your reviews for Ebert's, in this IMDb forum thread for Borat.
I think you'll be doing the fans a service by making the review labeling and star labeling more clear.
Thanks so much, and keep up the good work!
-Kenneth
I have to wonder what's more rare: four 4-star reviews, or the two zero star reviews in a week with last years' Chaos and Deuce Bigalow 2 (could've been three if Wolf Creek had been released the same week, which reminds me: did you ever get to see that, Jim? I still think Roger was misguided in labelling the film misogynistic, but then again, I feel much the same way about Crash, and many others).
Aaaaand I feel like a doofus for not reiterating the statements made by the poster before me. Keep up the good work!
I see that the homepage has bylines now. I imagine the "Ebert" by the stars is harder to fix, code-wise.
But anyway, thanks for the extremely quick response to my suggestion! :)
Jim,
Thanks for your review of "Old Joy." I've long admired Reichardt's "River of Grass," and am looking forwarded to seeing her latest.
