DePaul women's coach Doug Bruno landed the post player he coveted when 6-3 Katherine Harry of Columbia, Missouri gave her commitment to play for the Blue Demons begining in 2009.
''There were a lot of reasons I like DePaul," Harry said. ''First of all, the coaching staff. Coach Bruno is an amazing person. It's a great opportunity for me as a player and as a person to be a part of the DePaul program.
''When I visited, I loved Chicago. I have a lot of family in the area. And the girls were so much fun to be around."
Harry led her Rock Bridge team to the Missouri Class 5 (the largest class) state championship last year -- the first basketball state champion, girls of boys, from Columbia.
''The recruiting got to be pretty stressful, but when it winds up with an opportunity like this, it makes it worthwhile," Harry said. ''Now, I have to get ready to try to repeat [as a state champion]."
Harry joins a recruiting class that includes guard Anna Martin of Lexington Kentucky and transfer Jennifer Juergens, a former star at Bishop McNamara.
