According to her father Scott Dixon, Johnsburg girls basketball player Melissa Dixon has made an oral commitment to Iowa.
Geneva's Kevin McDowell won his second international medal in youth triathlon competition in two months on Sunday, taking the bronze at the International Triathlon Union Junior World Championship in Budapest, Hungary.
McDowell, won won a silver at the Youth Olympic Games last month in Singapore, had a time of 52 minutes, 22 seconds for the 750-meter swim, 19.03-kilometer bike ride and 5,000-meter run.
Finishing one spot behind McDowell in fourth was Sandburg's Lukas Verzbicas, who had a time of 52:36. Another Geneva resident, Ben Kanute, was 40th in 54:55.
And still another Geneva triathlete, Kelly Whitley, took fourth in the female competition at 59:20. Whitley had won the bronze medal in Singapore. Kaneland's Jennifer Howland was 20th in 1:00:23.

Peoria Richwoods' Mariah Smith, a returning all-stater and one of the nation's top small forward prospects, has decided which schools she'll make official visits to: Iowa, Princeton, Yale, Illinois and Michigan State.
She is the daughter of the late Mark Smith, who played at Illinois from 1977-81 and ranks seventh on the Illini's all-time scoring list.
The 2010 South Suburban Fall Showcase League tips off on Sept. 12. There are still some spots open, but registration closes on Thursday.
Kevin Devitt, a YourSeason alum, runs the league, an affordable eight week fall showcase league designed for high school basketball players entering 10th, 11th, and 12th grade.
All games are played at St. Rita. Last year 16 college basketball coaches from various DII, DIII, NAIA, and junior colleges attended. More are expected this year.
