Mike Shaw visits DePaul

De La Salle rising senior Mike Shaw visited the DePaul campus today. That's two elite talents in two days in Lincoln Park for new head coach Oliver Purnell (Anthony Davis visited on Monday).

According to a source, the visit went extremely well. Regardless of the outcomes of the Davis and Shaw recruitments, it seems that Purnell has DePaul back in the game.

"Kids are talking about DePaul again, they are out and involved and on the right kids," recruiting analyst Joe Henricksen said. "I give them credit for shooting for the stars right out of the box and not limiting themselves. They have set out to turn things around."

De Paul fans: My advice is to NOT be too high on Michael Shaw. In his 3 years at De La Salle, I have seen regression in his play. The scariest thing I've noticed is his lack of discipline and a lack of clutch baskets in crunch time. During an IHSA playoff gave vs. Foreman HS, Shaw proceeded to disappear and fall completely off the map when the team needed him the most. We De La Salle fans are crossing our fingers that scoring- machine Andre Henley will catapult the Meteors to a state championship in 2010. But Shaw needs to mentally get his game on.

After soundly defeating state champ Simeon during the 2009 season, De La Salle looked similar to prey in the jaws of a predator in their loss to Foreman. Shaw is very capable of doing damage to opponents from the outside and inside, but he seems to lack the ability to mix-up his game with consistent outside shooting when opponents take away his patented spin move to the basket.

It’s a shame De Paul is concentrating only on Shaw with his high reputation, when there is a diamond in the rough with his teammate Henley.
Henley goes to the basket with absolutely no fear and can bring the ball up like a point guard. If his grades hold up after a brief hiatus at Brehm Prep Academy, he should be one of De Paul’s top targets.

Mr. O'Brien,

I hope UK sues your ass !!! You just got played and your ego let it happen....

As someone who has worked in the sports media for over 30 years I am very embarassed at what my profession has come to.

It's unacceptable to print rumors and gossip and pass it off as "news."

If the Sun-Times has the goods on Davis and Kentucky than show some stones and print them WITH the accusers names. If not then basically shut the hell up.

I would hope Mr. Shaw looks at the 1) the academic standing of the univeristy he's intending to enroll in and 2) the national exposure for playing on a team with Final Four potential. If he does these two things, hopefully he decides to attend the U. of Illinois.
