The recruitment of De La Salle's Mike Shaw

Mac Irvin Fire coach Mike Irvin tweeted yesterday that Mike Shaw "has scheduled in-home visits n the coming weeks w/ West Virginia, Illinois,DePaul,Marquette -working out details with Notre Dame"

Interesting news. In-home visits scheduled for the fall of his senior year. There have been rumors swirling around the past week that Shaw was close to committing. By my count, that is the sixth or seventh time I've heard that rumor in the past three years.

The Illinois and DePaul fanbases have been hearing about and obsessing over Shaw's recruitment for that long as well. I've got a sneaking suspicion they are going to have to wait a little longer.

Let me stress that this isn't coming from conversations with Shaw or with anyone around him. It's not from any source at all. I have a feeling this one might go the distance, that we may be waiting until March or June for Shaw's decision.

Illinois, Michigan State and DePaul were the front-runners for awhile. A few months ago I heard that if Shaw was heading to the Big Ten, Michigan State would be the choice. Well, they don't have a spot for him anymore. Shaw has spent a lot of time recently on the DePaul campus, leading to serious speculation that he was heading there.

Now, all of a sudden Notre Dame is back in the picture and West Virginia has appeared out of nowhere. It's obvious that Shaw is taking it slow and hasn't really ruled anything out. That's his prerogative and maybe it's the right decision. We've seen far too many area players make horrendous college decisions in the past few years.

Its about time aplyer lets schools know they ae in charge of their recruitimet and will make a descision on their time, not the schools. Too many kids nowadays are pressured into making early decisions and suffer later when coaches get fired, rosters change, etc. Shaw is doing it the old fashion way and I applaud him for that. Take your visits in the fall and make a sound choice....on your time table not theirs. More kids should do the same.

Yeah except that doors will close quickly for him at some schools. Maybe schools he more interested in than other(MSU). Also Chris Colvin come to mind? Where is he at now..oh yeah, not division I.

Still he should visit because those schools that really want him will be there in the end.

The schools (99% of them) know the players are in charge. Classic example is U of I when they had Gordon signed and were holding out for Rose. Top prospects that wait until the end keep schools from getting other good talent holding a place for them. If the kid is good enough he'll end up in a good program, but the team is more important than any single player or recruit. The real shame and the reason most of these kids get tripped up is people like the Irvin family. They are sharks praying on these young kids for their own good. AAU needs more guys like Tai Streets running the show. I hope Shaw has a great career, and I hope it's at U of I. But he's a great talent and will end up at a great program regardless.

APPARENTLY SOME OF YOU HAVEN'T WATCHED THE MOVIE HOOP DREAMS, IN THAT MOVIE, THE COACH FROM MARQUETTE TOLD WILLIAM GATES THAT IF HE DIDN'T MAKE A COMMITMENT, THE SCHOOL WOULD HAVE TO MOVE ON TO THE NEXT RECRUIT.
THINGS ARE DIFFERENT NOW, AAU BALL HAS CHANGED THE LANDSCAPE OF RECRUITING, I HAVE A FEELING THAT MR. SHAW WILL PLAY HIS BALL AT EITHER UIC OR DEPAUL, HE SOUNDS LIKE A GUY THAT WANTS TO STAY HOME, AND UIC IS A NEW BALLGAME TO CONSIDER, COACH MOORE WILL LEAVE NO STONE UNTURNED, HE IS GOING TO HAVE UIC ROCKING IN THE FUTURE!

DO YOU MEAN THE UIC FLAMES WHO WENT 8-22 LAST YEAR AND HAVE GONE 72-84 THE LAST 5 SEASONS?

THAT UIC TEAM IS ABOUT TO TURN THAT MYTHICAL CORNER?

whatever dude. keep dreaming.

I SEE, YOU DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT HOWARD MOORE!
THIS GUY IS GOING TO HAVE UIC AT A LEVEL THAT EVERYONE WILL BE PROUD OF, JUST KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE FLAMES!

Mac Irvin and not his high school coach announcing his in home visits just shows what kind of garbage AAU basketball really is....these Public League coaches have been at Mike Shaw's games for 4 years trying to convince him to transfer and now the head coach of a Public League team is telling people where he is going.....
