Six local athletes have made the cut for the U.S. delegation heading to Singapore next month for the 2010 Youth Olympic Games.
The Youth Olympics, like its big brother, is held every four years and features the same 26 sports that will be contested at London in 2012. This year's event, which runs Aug. 14-26, is expected to draw around 3.600 athletes from 205 countries.
Geneva has two Youth Olympians, triathletes Kevin McDowell and Kelly Whitley. Max Schneider, a defending Class 3A wrestling champ from Lane, will compete in judo, while Washington's Michelle Silva and Morgan Park's Gregory English will compete in taekwondo. Chicago Christian's Madison Kamp is on the volleyball squad.
