Morgan Park moving down

| 3 Comments | No TrackBacks

The IHSA has released tentative class breakdowns for the 2010-11 school year and there's one big change in boys basketball: defending Public League champ Morgan Park is set to move down from 4A to 3A.

Wayne Blackshear's Mustangs are one of four city schools scheduled to move down; the others are Juarez, Julian and South Shore.

Eight schools are slated to go up from 3A to 4A, including Crete-Monee, Richards, Oswego, Westinghouse, DeKalb and Prairie Ridge.

There's also movement in the smaller classes. The most noteworthy is probably defending 1A baseball champ Westminster Christian going up to 2A. St. Benedict is among the schools moving down from 2A to 1A.

Morgan's Park move down a class will affect basketball, boys track, baseball, and girls track the most.

Juarez and Wells (not mentioned but also moving down) will be a bigger soccer force in the move down a class.

Westinghouse, while has a solid basketball program will field only freshman and sophomore next years. Look for them to make an impact not this year but the years after.

ENROLLMENT IS DOWN AT MP, AND THEY ARE IN THE SAME CONFERENCE WITH SIMEON, SO THE CLASS 3A TITLE GOES THROUGH EITHER MP OR SIMEON?

Besides the big sports, you can pencil in Morgan Park's girls' track team for a state title in 2011. They are a perennial powerhouse vs any team in the state and now that they will go against the weaker Class 2A, you could see them easily being the team to beat in 2011.
