The biggest loser wins it all

| 5 Comments | No TrackBacks

This is not about weight loss but last weekend's Class 2A state finals in Peoria.

Did you know that tournament favorite Seton had lost more games this season than the rest of the Final Four combined.
The Sting was 29-2
It's semifinal opponent Winnebago was 31-0

And the other semifinal pitted unbeaten 31-0 Marshall (the Downstate town, not the West Side Commandos} against 32-1 Massac County.
That gave the four teams a combined record of 123-3 which translates to a .976 winning percentage

In the end, Seton finished in class of its own with one of the most dominating small-school tournaments ever.

A bit of trivia -- Massac County played Immaculate Heart of Mary in the 1987 girls Class AA state championship game. It is located in Metropolis, and last I heard, they had a Superman festival every summer.

SETON ACADEMY ISN'T YOUR RUN OF THE MILL CLASS 2A SCHOOL,
THEY PROBABLY HAVEN'T EVEN PLAYED A 2A SCHOOL THAT IS
CLASSIFIED AS ONE, THE ENTIRE SEASON!
WHEN YOU HAVE DEFEATED THE TEAMS THAT THEY HAVE, THEY
ARE READY TO GO, NOW DON'T GET ME WRONG, THE TEAMS THEY
WILL BE FACING AREN'T WILLY WONKA AND THE CHOCOLATE
FACTORY, THEY WELCOME THE CHALLENGE AS WELL, BUT D.J.
COOPER, AND TONY NIXON, THE REST OF THE STING ARE READY
FOR BATTLE, THEY AREN'T GOING TO PEORIA TO SEE WHERE
RICHARD PRYOR USE TO TELL JOKES, COACH STEVENSON HAS A
PLAN AND FRIDAY IS RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER, GAME TIME
6:30, AND IF ED SULLIVAN WERE HERE, HE WOULD SAY IT'S
GOING TO BE A REALLY BIG SHOW!
THE STING FROM SOUTH HOLLAND ARE THE REAL DEAL!

I got that feeling (Seton Sting)Love this feelin

The 4 system classification is a joke. There is no way Seton should have been playing in Class 2a.

If there are complaints of certain Catholic Football powerhouses playing in lower classes then the same should go for Hoops as well.

These are the same people who complain about certain High Schools recruiting for Football then I don't want to hear it about Basketball. Every year the same High Schools are good in Hoops. Where are the moans and groans from the Football complainers?

I DON'T THINK YOU HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT THAT ANYMORE,
NLCP WAS BUMPED FROM 2A AFTER WINNING THE 2A CHAMPIONSHIP,
SO THE SAME THING WILL PROBABLY HAPPEN TO SETON ACADEMY,
BUT THE FACTS ARE BOTH THESE SCHOOL DON'T HAVE BIG
ENROLLMENTS, THEY JUST HAVE GOOD BASKETBALL COACHES AND
PLAYERS!
YOU CAN MOVE THEM UP, BUT YOU CAN'T TAKE AWAY THEIR
ACCOMPLISHMENTS, AND THE CHAMPIONSHIP TROPHY!
P.S. MT CARMEL HIGH SCHOOL WOULDN'T BE OPEN RIGHT NOW
IF THEY DIDN'T HAVE GREAT ATHLETICS, ATHLETICS ARE AN
EXTENSION OF THE CLASSROOM, HECK SOME COLLEGES WOULDN'T
BE OPEN RIGHT NOW WITHOUT ATHLETICS!
HAVE YOU BEEN TO NEBRASKA? LINCOLN NEBRASKA IS LIKE
OUT OF THIS WORLD ON SATURDAYS WHEN THE BIG RED PLAYS,
THIS STATE DOESN'T HAVE A PRO TEAM IN FOOTBALL, SO THE
UNIVERSITY MAKES UP FOR WHAT THEY DON'T HAVE, PEOPLE
TRAVEL FROM MILES AROUND TO GO TO THEIR GAMES!
I KNOW I AM ALL OVER THE PLACE IN MY COMMENT, BUT IN
AMERICA, WE LOVE WINNERS, WE DON'T LIKE WHINERS!

Seton was in 2A where it belongs based on enrollment, however, all of the transfers that allowed them to build an All-Star team is patently unfair and should be investigated.
