Illinois Prep Bulls-Eye Report's Roy Schmidt was impressed by the play of four sophomores...
Four rising sophs caught Schmidt's eye Monday night at Moody Bible:
"Anthony Johnson was the best player I saw all day," Schmidt said. "I also really like Alex Rossi (New Trier) and both Rob Robinson (Simeon) and Reggie Smith (Thornton) played very well."
Johnson, who plays for Young, turned heads all over the gym. Personally, I think he has the talent to become one of the top 50 players in the nation for the 2010 Class. He's a terrific shooter and a fast, fluid athlete. According to Young coach Tyrone Slaughter, Johnson is receiving interest from UCLA, Marquette, Purdue and Illinois.
"The Big Three (Farragut's Michael Dunigan, Oak Park's Iman Shumpert and Hales Franciscan's Matt Humphrey) have struggled a bit," Schmidt said. "The could also be conserving their energy for the NBA event tomorrow."
Schmidt was also impressed with St. Joseph's rising junior Diamond Taylor.
"Taylor was fantastic," Schmidt said. "His stock is rising as fast as any junior in the state."

Tremel Owens, Proviso East, went for 36 points, six steals, seven rebounds in a tough loss to Bloom. He scored 14 points in the last two minutes, including 4 three pointers under double and triple team defense. He score a quiet 16 and threw down two spectacular dunks over bigger defenders versus a much bigger Washington team. I don't know what we have to do to get this kid credit for being one of the top players in the class of 2009.
