Elliott Jones and Justin Berry’s names don’t show up on recruiting websites, they don’t get invited to shoe company all-star games or prestigious camps. But Wednesday at the Proviso West Holiday Tournament the two seniors willed No. 5 Hillcrest to a 55-51 win over Fenwick...

The Hawks trailed by nine with less than a minute to play in the third quarter. Jones and Berry each hit a jumper to pull Hillcrest (9-1) within five as the quarter ended.

They took over the game in the fourth quarter, each scoring eight points.

Howard Deramus’ layup with 38 seconds to play gave the Hawks the lead for good and Berry’s rebound and putback of Deshawn Dockery’s missed free throw with eight seconds to play sealed the win.

“It took [Berry and Jones] three quarters to realize they could take it over,? Hillcrest coach Tom Cappel. “Once we stepped up the tempo wand went man to man things went well.?

Switching from Hillcrest’s traditional 1-3-1 zone to a man defense was was Kellen Thornton’s idea.

“He did some better coaching than he did playing tonight,? Berry said.

Thornton finished with 11 points and 12 rebounds.

Sophomore Xavier Humphrey led Fenwick with 12 points. Nick Caldicott added 11 points and six rebounds.
