A Simeon grad, Kurtis Ellison, is the new head coach at Julian. Ellison was an All-City defensive back and All-Conference point guard. He graduated in 1990.
Plenty of confusion going on with the Crane job. Anthony Longstreet won't be back, but the Tim Anderson rumor hasn't been confirmed and I'm hearing that it isn't the Tim Anderson that played for Manley, but the Tim Anderson that played at Crane with Will Bynum in 2001.
The Zee-Bees, with highly-recruited soph Lenzelle Smith, have joined the field at Proviso West for next season. The 16-team field has not been finalized yet, but Zion-Benton replaces Morgan Park.
In other holiday tournament news, Waukegan has replaced Jacksonville at Pontiac, which would be a major addition to the tournament if Jereme Richmond sticks around.
According to Rivals.com, Crane guard Dion Dixon gave an oral commitment to Cincinnati today. He was on campus over the weekend and went to the Cincinnati-Providence game.
"Making a commitment to a high major school like Cincinnati is a sign that all my hard work finally paid off," Dixon told BearcatLair.com. "They want me to come in play the 2 and the 1, as a combo guy, who can play either spot."
The Public League semifinals will take place Saturday at Attack Athletics. The facility is located at 2641 W. Harrison and seats only 1,000 people, so plan to show up early. Marshall faces Englewood at 2 p.m. and Farragut plays Curie at 4 p.m.

Candace Parker was not a part of the controversy at Tennessee on Monday night
She also wasn't a part of the controversy from Naperville Central's sectional "victory" against Neuqua Valley five years
But she did benefit from both wrong calls
In a 2003 sectional, an apparent game-winning basket by Neuqua that replays show clearly beat the buzzer was not allowed and Naperville Central went on to win the game in overtime and the first of their two Class AA state titles
On Monday, the clock at Tennessee mysteriously stopped and a foul was called that allowed Tennessee to make two free throws with 0.2 seconds on the clock and beat Rutgers by a point.
It wasn't a bad call, it was a wrong call.
Since Tennessee coach Pat Sunnitt has already won more games than any Division I basketball coach, mens or womens, one coach suggested that she give this one back to the Scarlet Knights
Bad calls may be part of the game
But there is no room for wrong calls.
One of the officials or timekeepers at Tennessee stopped the clock and lied about it, unless you buy the theory that the clock stopped itself.
Now women's basketball, which needs positive publicity has .2-gate
Just saying ...
As the girls state playoffs get going. it seems curious that no one seems to be talking about Fenwick.
Not only are the Friars the reigning Class AA state champion, though four starters from that team graduated, but the Fenwick resume is pretty impressive.
Fenwick won its Thanksgiving tournament, which included GCAC tournament champion Resurrection and Mid-Suburban champion Wheeling
Fenwick won the Dundee-Crown tournament beating then unbeaten and national ranked Buffalo Grove in the title game
Fenwick won the Sweet 16 tournament handing Hinsdale Central its only loss of the season. The Friars also beat Schaumburg, which played for the MSL title
Fenwick won the East Suburban Catholic knocking off Marist and Marian Catholic. both were ranked all season
And while Fenwick didn't travel coast-to-coast, I believe they are the only are team to play three games this season against teams ranked in USA Today's top 25 in the nation at the time of the games
