Depth helps, part 1: Sandburg
Top-ranked Sandburg's title run at Wheeling last Saturday was all the more impressive considering the Eagles were without a pair of injured regulars: Pat Halpin (195/220) and Nate Sonneveld (285). Sandburg is back in action this weekend in the Rex Whitlatch Invitational at Hinsdale Central, where the field also includes No. 2 Montini, the host Red Devils, Homewood-Flossmoor and Lemont among others.
Depth helps, part 2: Lockport
Another team that survived some injuries last weekend was No. 4 Lockport, which was 3-0 in its own Mega Dual. That included a criteria win over No. 5 Marist after the teams tied 33-33; the Porters won eight bouts to the RedHawks' six. Lockport's Tyler Johnson (182) had to default because of injury in his first match of the day and didn't return. Alex Theoharis (152) sat out with an injury suffered the night before vs. Homewood-Flossmoor.
Bowen went 4-1 at last weekend's Marengo duals, with Ronzel Darling (112), DeQuence Goodman (220) and Rudy Johnson (126) leading the way. Johnson won the event's Heart and Soul award.
Harrah works quickly
Crystal Lake Central's Gage Harrah was on the mat for less than a minute total in pinning three opponents to cruise to the 195-pound title in the Dick Mudge Invitational at Prospect.
