President Barack Obama and Republican challenger Mitt Romney poked gentle but sharp fun at themselves and each other for a charitable cause Thursday night, two days after more serious attacks on each other in their second debate.
SPEAKER: FORMER GOV. MITT ROMNEY, R-MASS.,
President Obama's remarks can be found here.
ROMNEY: Thank you. Thank you. Thank you so much.
(APPLAUSE)
ROMNEY: Thank you so much. Your eminence, Cardinal Dolan, Mr. President, Governor Cuomo, Mayor Bloomberg, Senator Schumer, Al and Ann Smith, thank you for your invitation. Thank you for your extraordinarily warm welcome. Ann and I appreciate your friendship very, very much. Thank you.
(APPLAUSE)
Now Al, you were right, a campaign can require a lot of wardrobe changes. We -- blue jeans in the morning perhaps, suits for a lunch fundraiser, sport coat for dinner, but it's nice to finally relax and to wear what Ann and I wear around the house.
(LAUGHTER)
I'm glad to be able to join in this memorable tradition. And of course I'm pleased that the president is here. We were chatting pleasantly this evening as if Tuesday night never happened.
(LAUGHTER)
And I credit that, of course to the cardinal. He is -- it's taken New York's highest spiritual authority to get us back on our best behavior.
(LAUGHTER)
I was actually hoping the president would bring Joe Biden along this evening, because he'll laugh at anything.
(LAUGHTER)
Of course this isn't a night for serious politics, and it was especially nice to see President Obama and Cardinal Dolan sharing the dais despite their differences. I'm sure the cardinal has no hard feelings, and we might get an indication of that during dinner to see if the president's wine turns into water.
(LAUGHTER)
Or for that matter, whether my water turns into wine.
(LAUGHTER)
I'm pleased to once again have the chance to see Governor Cuomo who's already being talked about for higher office. A very impressive fellow, but he may be getting a little ahead of himself. I mean, let me get this straight, the man has put in one term as a governor. He has a father who happened to be a governor, and he thinks that's enough to run for president.
Of course we're down to the final months of the president's term, as presidents...
(LAUGHTER)
...as President Obama surveys the Waldorf banquet room with everyone in white tie and refinery, you have to wonder what he's thinking. So little time, so much to redistribute.
(LAUGHTER)
And don't be surprised if the president mentions this evening the monthly jobs report where there was a slight improvement in the numbers. He knows how to seize the moment, this president. And already has a compelling new campaign slogan, "You're better off now than you were four weeks ago."
(LAUGHTER)
You know, with or without all the dignitaries that are here, the Al Smith dinner surely lives up to its billing. Usually when I get invited to gatherings like this, it's just to be the designated driver.
(LAUGHTER)
Your kind hospitality here tonight gives me a chance to convey my deep and long held respect for the Catholic church. I have special admiration for the Apostle St. Peter, to whom it is said, "Upon this rock, I will build my church." The story is all the more inspiring when you consider that he had so many skeptics and scoffers at the time who were heard to say, "If you've got a church, you didn't build that."
(LAUGHTER)
Of course only 19 days to go until the finish line, a campaign full of surprises. The debates are very exciting. Just the other night we had a very fun debate. Candy Crowley was there, and was happy to welcome us, but people seem to be very curious just as to how we prepare for the debates. Let me tell you what I do. First, refrain from alcohol for 65 years before the debate.
(LAUGHTER)
Second, find the biggest available straw man and then just mercilessly attack it.
(LAUGHTER)
Big Bird didn't even see it coming.
(LAUGHTER)
And by the way in -- in the spirit of Sesame Street, the president's remarks tonight are brought to you but the letter 'O' and the number $16 trillion.
(LAUGHTER)
Campaigns can be grueling, exhausting. President Obama and are each very lucky to have one person who is always in our corner, someone who we can lean on, and someone who is a comforting presence. Without whom, we wouldn't be able to go another day. I have my beautiful wife Ann, he has Bill Clinton.
(LAUGHTER)
We got a big dose of the Biden charm last week, I tell you that, in his debate with Paul Ryan. I'm not sure that all that carrying on had quite the effect that Joe intended. Because afterwards I heard from the Federal Election Commission, from now on whenever he appears on TV there's a recording of me afterwards that says, "I'm Mitt Romney, and I approved this message."
(LAUGHTER)
Of course rules of fairness have to be enforced, because what other safeguard do we have, besides the press?
(LAUGHTER)
And...
(APPLAUSE)
...now I never suggest that the -- that the press is biased. I recognize that they have their job to do, and I have my job to do. My job is to lay out a positive vision for the future of the country, and their job is to make sure no one else finds out about it.
(LAUGHTER)
Let's just say that some in the media have a certain way of -- of looking at things. When suddenly I -- I pulled ahead in some of the major polls, what was the headline? "Polls Show Obama Leading from Behind."
(LAUGHTER)
And I've already seen early reports from tonight's dinner, headline; "Obama Embraced by Catholics. Romney Dies with Rich People."
(LAUGHTER)
Of course the president has put his own stamp on relations with the church. There have been some awkward moments. Like when the president pulled Pope Benedict aside to share some advice on how to deal with his critics. He said, "Look Holy Father, whatever the problem is, just blame it on Pope John Paul II."
(LAUGHTER)
Of course the president has found a way to take the sting out of the Obamacare mandates for the church. From now on, they're going to be in Latin.
(LAUGHTER)
We have very fundamental and sound principles that guide both the president and me. He -- he and I, of course, both feel the pressures and tensions of a -- of a close contest. It would be easy to let a healthy competition give way to the person on the penny, but fortunately we don't carry the burden of -- of disliking one another.
Our president has had some very fine and gracious moments. Don't tell anyone I said so, but our 44th president has many gifts and a beautiful family that would make any man proud.
You can oppose...
(APPLAUSE)
In our country, you can oppose someone in politics and make a confident case against their policies without any ill will and that's how it is for me. There's more to life than politics.
At the Al Smith Foundation and the Archdiocese of New York, you show this in the work you do, in causes that run deeper than allegiance to party or to any contest at the moment. No matter which way the political winds are blowing, what work goes on, day in day out by this organization and you. You answer with calm and willing hearts and service to the poor and care for the sick, in defense and the rights of conscience and in solidarity with the innocent child waiting to be born. You strive to bring God's love and every -- in every life.
(APPLAUSE)
I -- I don't presume to have all your support and on a night like this, I'm certainly not going ask for it, but you can be certain that in the great causes of compassion that you come together to embrace that I stand proudly with you as an ally and friend.
God bless you all and God bless the United States of America.
Thank you.

Republican presidential candidate and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney speaks at the 67th annual Alfred E. Smith Memorial Foundation Dinner, a charity gala organized by the Archdiocese of New York, also attended by President Barack Obama on Thursday at the Waldorf Astoria hotel in New York. (AP Photo/Charles Dharapak)

Mitt Romney is a man of intergrity, he was so respected during the Olympics !!
I would be so proud to have him represent us as President of the United States !!
Let's turn America, back into America !!!!
I couldn't bear to listen or watch him speak, but I did read Mr. Romney's speech's transcript in full. He is so insulting and gross. I don't think he has any idea how badly his words fall on the ears of everyday Americans. I can't wait for this election to be over and for Mr. Romney to take a welcome back seat so we can move FORWARD.
I don't know where you got that idea, Judie. Mitt Romney, in two debates, lied (not exaggerated or erred) almost once a minute. Reports of his conduct of the Olympics emphasize that in the end, the federal government had to come in and rescue him--and found that formerly available funds were not accounted for.
It was as a venture capitalist that he excelled: taking over a struggling business, draining it of all its resources and credit into his own bank account, firing the workers, and being driven away as it imploded behind him. If you listen for meaning, you will notice that is exactly his plan for the United States.
If you are a campaign worker and your note is deliberate propaganda, then I apologize for wasting your time, making you read an honest response.
Anyone who can't laugh at this has zero sense of humor. Sesame Street - the letter O and the number $16 trillion? That is funny!
Well done Mitt, with charm and wit!
To the vitriolic, radical left-whiners above…get over yourselves. You sound petty and pathetic.
Yes, facts matter – DemocRats have controlled 2/3 or 3/3 of the US government since the 2006 election, and had voted for the wars. Your trickle down government president has sunk the ship. This is on you, the morons who put this charlatan there, not Romney.
Wow, you read it and thought it was gross. Actually it was funny, and nothing he said was any more insulting or innapropriate than comments from your beloved leader Obama. You can move FORWARD, please.... like to Spain or Greece. Take your silly politics with you. Honestly I don't like Obama OR Romney, but I will take Romney over a man who is hell bent on ruining the country and turning the people (further) into government dependent sheep. You can fill a hole by digging another, but you are still going to have a hole, just a different one. You will never get that I am sure. What does that even mean FORWARD? I think it means straight off of the cliff.
Sometimes the truth hurts, but you have to hear it. Right now Americans are hurt all over this great nation, and OUR current president does know how to fix it. He may have good intentions, but its not working. In fact, its costing us more and more and the repricusions of his policies will have long term ill effects to the next generation and generations after. If you really look into his past and try not to ignore it, you will understand why. Our past influences our future.
Funny, maybe if you actually listened to the man you would see a man of honor and integrity. I have a hard time listening to Obama as he preaches and his mannerisms are annoying. I find Obama condescending and petty with the Big Bird and Binder garbage.Whats worst, though, is Obama is out of his league. The election was already swinging away from him to Romney on the economy alone, but Bengazi was the final nail in the coffin of his presidency. The more info that comes out shows us just how incompetent his administration was/is and how they used propaganda to mislead the American people. In the debate, when Romney accused Obama of not calling it an act of terror for 14 days, which is true, even Candy admitted it after the debate (and who said the media is not biased...) you could see Romney was furious, but Obama came back and accused Romney of coming out the day after and making it political - no, Romney came out and said what the president should have said in the first place. That was when I knew I was looking at the next President of the United States.
Just like the narcissist in chief, the comments here reveal Obama and his supporters can neither take any criticism, perhaps even a joke.
Romney was great last night. Obama has destroyed enough the last four years. His spin on his record is appalling. Forbid him another four years to suck the hopes and dreams out of the American people. For you Obama supporters - to you does his record matter, does it matter so many are miserable, out of work, on food stamps, unemployed, under-employed, that we are bankrupt? If you were voting for a CEO as a shareholder of a company would you really put him back at the head? On paper - he has absolutely no qualifications to be doing what he's doing. He doesn't understand, nor appreciate what it takes to start a business. Sure he may be a great family man, nice, and make a great speech, but his policies and his politics are destructive. Fast and Furious, Solyndra, Fiskars auto, Medicare Advantage scandal, Benghazi, and the media continues to cover for his failures and his corruption.
Mitt Romney successfully pulled many business back from the brink - staples, baskin robbins to name a few. He pulled the bankrupted Olympics back, he balanced Mass's budget, he was a pastor (in not a hate filled) for his his church. He has served his fellow man well and worked his tail off to get where he is today. No comparison. Not even close. Obama can go back to community agitating.
Four and done.
At this point in time, the 2 above haters are in the minority. Sorry you are going to be out of jobs in the Obama propaganda machine. I am sure Soros will find another job for you in a short time though. Your hyperbole is obvious. As is your poor grasp of reality. Please go crawl back under your progressive rock or better yet move to Europe, they will love you in their crumbling economy.
Honest reply? Would be you be so kind as to site all the "lies) that Gov.Romney told? I can tell you that the the record of this President is a complete and utter disaster. I don't think you or any of his supporters understand that the number of Americans struggling to find decent work is huge, 23,000,000. The number if people on food stamps has dramatically increased and the deficit is killing us. If only you would truly be honest with yourself you would admit that the last four years have been a failure! Please consider describing the wonderful view you have of the accomplishments of this president and how America is better off now than we were when he began.
By the way, as for the concept of lying during a debate, I would suggest looking into all the fact checking that was done and see for yourself how truthful the v.p. and President actually. Maybe you will be enlightened?
Well you liberals... I'm afraid for your sake that Romney will be our next President. Don't worry you will be OK. I speak from experience, having survived 4 years of Obama I can attest to the strength of the human spirit. All you have to endure is 8 years of Romney, 8 years of Ryan, 8 years of Rubio, and then after that I'm not sure if it will be 8 years of Christie or Jindal. Hang in there!
Of the three comments, two are written by Obama campaigners who just KEEP drinking the Democrat Kook-Aid. So here ... we ... go.
It is only self-avowed democrat pundits who try to assert Romney did not help the 2002 Olympics. It IS an indisputable fact that Romney brought 10s of millions of donations to the Olympics. So much so, that there was a surplus in the end. So your assertions there are completely false.
As a venture capitalist ... you focus only on the one side of what can happen to ANY business. You failed to mention the jobs saved, the companies saved, the economic boost that venture capital investment provides. Your assertion that he took over businesses only to drain it all into his own bank account is a complete, absolute, and ludicrous lie and you know it.
From your statements, you are either too unintelligent to be able to dig for the truth, or you are just willfully ignorant and gleefully pleased to remain so. You try to assert the lie-a-minute by Romney, yet you turn a blind eye to the obvious and aggregious lies Obama told, not only in the debates, but continuously to the American public.
Yes, I do believe the effects of the Kool-Aid has had its way on you.
This comments section is so over the top Anti-Romney it's funny!
1. Romney is the a bad man.
2. Romney won't just take away a women's right to choose, he'll personally choose for you.
3. Romney will force women to wear jewelry while cooking, like June Cleaver.
4. Romney will ship women's jobs overseas, because Gender Based Workplace Participation Reduction is his master plan.
5. Romney will stuff his cabinet with women the first year, then decrease their numbers slowly over time.
7. Romney will personally make sure that women are paid less than men for the same job.
8. Romney will increase funding in mind control techniques for women.
9. Romney will ignore women's rights all together because his other master plan is to subjugate all women for his personal needs.
10. Romney learned from Snoop Dogg how women really want to be treated.
p.s. I left number six (6) out because it would have been blocked!
Why is it that there are no attacks on what Romney has said? Even Obama didn't retort when Romney pointed out the economic numbers... Think about that for a minute...
ha ha ha ha ha ha... enjoy losing in a few weeks
Chicago Sun Times:
Romney" And I've already seen early reports from tonight's dinner, headline; "Obama Embraced by Catholics. Romney Dies with Rich People."
Your Freudian Slip is showing.
~(Ä)~
Libertards; soon we will all be on welfare, receiving the redistributed wealth and sitting on street corners. Not sure where the taxes that pay us will come from with all of the companies out of business...can the government tax itself? Guess not; Russia couldn't make it work. Although China has done well; perhaps it is time to start learing Chinese? We MUST get America back on track as a Republic and that is not the current roadmap for Obummer.
Kell and Fiona: You 2 are among the 47% Romney was speaking about a long while back. You 2 would not vote for a CONSERVATIVE even if the DEMOCRAT was a convicted prisoner running from behind bars.
Mitt Romney has enough personal integrity to appreciate what God gave Barack Obama. A wonderfull wife, 2 beautiful intelligent daughters, and a job that takes taxpayer money to fund his vacations.
You are repeating Obama talking points. You need to do some research into Romney's carreer. He is a good man and he will be a great President.
Virtually everything Obama says is a lie or a mischaracterization of the facts designed to mislead.
In the last debate his comments about Bengazi, and Oil production immediately come to mind as lies. Check the facts yourself....
Hey lefties...he was getting the laughs. Unlike Joe Biden, who will laughs at people dying in Libya, the people in attendance were laughing at the jokes of a light hearted evening. His words at this function fall on regular Americans as humorous. And that is they way they were intended. Get your head out of your ass and see past your hate.
Guys - if you don't think the Obama / Biden are doing the same thing, you're either not looking or are more willing to ignore, or haven't lived in the US the last 4 years.
Get over it Fiona. Governor Romney's common-sense fiscal ideas for restoring America's greatness are superior to President Obama's and so is his humor!
Video of Romney's speech at Alfred Smith dinner last night. Hilarious!
An absolute great presentation by Mr. Romney….If there ever a time when America needs help with strong leadership it is now, and that leader is Mitt Romney. Romney is about solutions and jobs, and he has something that Obama does not and will never have…..i.e. a passion for this country, a belief that his country is great; Romney speaks from his heart and believes what he says because it comes naturally and from his heart. Obama needs a teleprompter, because if he speaks naturally he will reveal his true self. Romney speaks with conviction, and can do so extemporaneously. Obama has failed this country; his agenda is vile; he is not a leader; he does not deserve the office he holds; he does not know what to do to leverage the greatness of this country; he is lost; he is clueless; he is the epitome of the Peter Principle, and the Media helped him get there…. He is a puppet. The useful idiots who voted for him, are swayed by his vacuous rhetoric soaring from the Teleprompter, and they cannot see beyond the shinny objects; Romney is a proven leader; a man with passion for this country, and a plan to make America Great again. America deserves a leader like Mitt Romney.
Amen
+Fiona:
You accuse Mitt of lying during the debates while you tell lies about him. You claim that his venture capitalists days were nothing but stealing assets from businesses and firing all the employees. That is a blatant lie. Any venture capitalist that did that would be broke by the months end and sued by all the other investors. The first company Romney saved was Bain itself. When he took the job as CEO of Bain, it was on the brink of bankruptcy, owed more than it was worth and had no substantial revenue. Mitt saved Bain, made it profitable and did the same with many other corporations. Did he "drain Staples of all its resources, put the money in his own bank account, fire the workers and leave as it imploded behind him"? Seeing as I can purchase a binders and printers at a Staples today PROVES that you are telling lies. There are many other companies as well like Burger King, Baskin Robins, and others. Fact is that less than 5% of the companies have filed for bankruptcy under Bain's control.
He was hilarious.
Strange . . . the double standard that some have. Obama can lie serially and get away with it without question . . . ie. Benghazi embassy fiasco, and all the fiascos before and since. Can hardly wait for Al Franken's next book, "Lying Liars and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them: book 2." Al needs to be fair! Bill Clinton was trhe archetype of a democrat liar. Unfortunate that the truth has little currency in today's politics. But the politics of personal destruction has much, ie. Mitt Romney is a murderer because Bain Capital restructured several companies and their employees lost their insurance.
This is hysterical. The only reason any lib doesn't get this is because they don't have a sense of humor which then again is why they are libs.
yes, Fiona, STAPLES and DOMINOS PIZZA, two entities that would not exist today were it not for BAIN coming in & rescuing them - their resources were not drained & their workers were not fired....but i guess deliberate propaganda is all you know how to parrot back whenever you hear anything positive about ROMNEY, our next President.
I didn't realize Mitt was that funny. I bet he'll make a great president.
Kelly and Fiona. I used to be a Democrat a President in my college chapter and a Treasurer in the local young Democrats and was a Democrat until 1982 when I saw the Democrats lying to the American people about Reagan whom I voted against in 1980. After a couple of years, I did some investigation and found that Democrats aren't compassionate. FDR was the first of many Democrats who created and put the poor on Welfare and fed them toast crumbs from the table of the elite rich. Since FDR they have broadened the poverty lines and Obama wants us all to be dependent on the Government for our well being and livliehood. Personally, we need to restore welfare reform. This country was a great country that gave everyone the opportunity to be whatever they want to if they work hard. Romney was indeed funny and not gross Kell. He was deliberate. Fiona, I know both you and Kelly will vote Democrat like you've done since you were old enough to vote and you will continue to do so despite what they've done or said. Both of you and others like you listen to what Democrats say about themselves and what Democrats say about themselves then you say you're informed. Did you know that 1/3 of conservatives voted for Obama in 2008? Do you know that the Civil Rights bill 1964 received more "no votes" from Democrats and it was the GOP who provided the votes to pass it.
Brilliant. It is so refreshing to know that in four short weeks that the fraud Ob☭ma will be gone and this monumental mistake can be corrected.
Don't go away mad, Barack. Just go away. Far, far away.................
What a great man. So classy and will do right by American's when he is president.
The truth hurts when confronted with it! best line, This evening brought to you by the letter O And 16 trillion dollars.

You do understand that the struggling business calls in the venture capital firms? Probably not. You and Kell before you are not 'everyday' Americans. You are both partisan liberal democrats who are part of a'cult of personality.' All you do is regurgitate liberal talking points without an ounce of critical thought. You both live in a fantasy world devoid of reason and logic.
I'm not the biggest fan of Gov. Romney but he is an honest and moral man (he doesn't need a teleprompter to guide his speech - it flows naturally from the well of his beliefs. I hold none of you in contempt nor do I have ill will toward. Quite the opposite, I feel genuine pity for you. That is exacerbated with my being dedicated to your total and complete defeat and that of everything you believe in - so that "government of the people, by the people, and for the people shall not perish from this earth."
Hey Fiona, can you give me one example of a lie told by Romney? I don't care for your hearsay about how he caused businesses to implode as he drained their resources. That's absolute garbage. He took failing company's, made tough decisions, and turned a profit where the company wouldn't have survived had he not stepped in. Meanwhile, Obama has been the most dishonest politician in modern day history; using people like yourself as a smoke screen while he spouts his lofty rhetoric and empty promises. Who is the one who is really dishonest here? I think we both know the true answer to that question.
I feel sorry for Kell and Fiona, but they do prove one thing about liberals/progressives: they most certainly do NOT have a sense of humor.
Romney showed a wonderful wit, and was gracious to both the Catholic Church and the President.
And Fiona, this column is about this gentle roasting of BOTH candidates, and I'm sure you found President Obama's remarks hilarious and stirring. I am just now going to look for a transcript of his remarks, so I can read and enjoy them as well.
Have a wonderful day!
Fiona, you have no idea how a venture capitalist operates. Clearly you have no understanding of what Romney actually did for these struggling companies, and your ignorance allows you to fill in the blanks with whatever claptrap you pick up from an equally ignorant media. If you do some investigation of your own, you will find that it is Obama and Biden who continually lie brazenly, and apparently aren't afraid to do so because they know the media isn't going to call them on it, and folks like Fiona here won't be bothered to inform themselves.
I feel sorry for Kell and Fiona, but they do prove one thing about liberals/progressives: they most certainly do NOT have a sense of humor.

I am not sure just what comments so offended Kelli so much? Where Mitt made fun of himself? Did she read Obama's comments too? I found those offensive. At a dinner like this, remarks like both of these men made are made in jest. These diehards need to get off of their high horse and have an open mind.
Fiona, do you really think that a person buys a struggling business and drives its worth to zero? Who spends their own money on somthing that they are going to drive its value to zero? Its like you buying a house, trashing it, and then trying to resell it at a loss.
However if your description of how venture capital works is true, Romney sucks as a investor. Based on your misguided idea of how investing works, Romney failed to fire all the workers and ruin companies like Staples, Accuride, Brookstone, Domino's Pizza, Sealy Corporation, Sports Authority and a whole host of turn around businesses.
I suggest you take an Econ 101 course and get a clue about how investing works. Stop drinking the Kool-Aid.
What a great roast! Nice to see someone from the conservative side give it like the progessives do! Ha ha, and ten they (progs) scream foul ha ha pathetic. This gentleman has surffered through more heinous, low-ball, and scurrilous personal attacks as most any on the right. Soon, he will obtain the that mantle from GWB for the most hateful attacks..and ironically from the progressives who fain to be so open minded. Right. Go Mitt!! Old school manners are a good thing. Thankfully a successful individual will e at the helm of the great USA, and the present administration will be sent back the the playground. Tea Time 11/12. God Bless.

Kell and Fiona, you say Romney lied...lied about what exactly? They say Romney lied in that he said he won't cut taxes for rich people by $5 trillion dollars. But when did he say he would? He didn't...only the OBAMA CAMPAIGN said that. The press says he hasn't offered specifics on deductions he would limit. Ridiculous. He indicated quite clearly in both debates that he would favor a global cap on deductions for wealthy people so that the wealthy would not see tax reductions when marginal rates are reduced. That's plenty of detail! And where's Obama's specifics for the next 4 years. Nothing. He basically admits he's been terrible but is telling us all Romney's worse. Romney's rich..he lies..he invests in Chinese companies...blah blah blah. He dared to utter the simple truth that Obama's going to get at least 47% of the vote no matter what Romney says or does. Oohh...so evil.
It is remarkably unfair to criticize Romney for performing well in his prior jobs. He was successful...he made a lot of money. Gosh, imagine a Chicago Cubs fan criticizing the Cubs for signing a great ballplayer because "he hit a lot of homers against us!" We'd all laugh at such a knucklehead, because that's a reason to sign the guy, not to not sign him. But that's what you sound like. Romney was a great businessman and knows what makes companies grow and what drives them to relocate offshore. THAT'S A REASON TO VOTE FOR HIM, NOT TO NOT VOTE FOR HIM. We should hire him so he'll play on OUR TEAM.
What's Obama's plan to grow the economy? To tax rich people. That's it. That's not a plan...it's a counterproductive act which will slow economic growth but satisfy the lust in some quarters for "economic justice."
What a difference.
Class and dignity coupled with intelligence and compassion.
Can't wait for election night to turn in to the bias media outlets and see the dopey talking heads explode when Barry loses by a landslide.
Worst "president" in US history - good bye professor Obama!
Fiona and Kell, you are spouting talking points supplied by those that need you to remain stupid and subservient. Gather just a little of the facts, leave the fiction behind and start thinking for yourself.
@Kell. The real Americans, the ones who believe in the Constitution and in keeping America a Christian nation, and an ally and friend of the great state of Israel, are proud of Mitt Romney and want him to be the President of the United States of America. You can have Obammy and his $35 million mansion in Hawaii.
Fiona and Kel, I feel pity for your that you are so blinded by political hatred. I hope you both mind peace with yourselves one day. Romney 2012!
Kell,
You are so wrong. Everyday Americans love this guy. I know because I am an everyday American. Only marxist, liberal, socialist, welfare EBT receiving Americans afraid they will lose their free handouts from the government dont like him. His words are full of encouragement unlike the repeated and broken talking points of Obama. You should get used to his voice because you're going to be hearing it for the next eight years.
Forward into Marxist bliss.
Very funny ....reminded me of the wit of Ron Reagon.
He can bring back America to a better place. God Bless Mitt Romney.
What did you rhear/read? I didnt interpret any of that from him or the debates. To me, he stands and acts like a true leader, not person reaching for sumblime popularity. Wake up Kell and open your mind for your own interpretation.
Class. Wit. Humility. Gravitas.
God - and the voters - willing, our next President.
Just wanted to jump in before the Drudgies (he linked both speeches) to laugh at the headlines on Drudge, "Romney has them in stitches at Al Smith dinner"; "president roasts himself." Classic. The irony here being Romney's line above about how the press will spin the dinner. At least Drudge is consistent.
All in all, I thought both speeches were pretty funny. You could tell both were written by speechwriters doing their best badumbum routine, but I liked the change of pace.
I was astounded at some of the daring and outrageously funny zingers Romney got off at the President, even beyond those of John McCain four years back. It's a wonder Obama was able to stumble to the mike.
Romney came off as presidential all the way. He sounded like Ronald Reagan. One Sharp cookie! This is one of the best roast comedies, that will go down in history.
This showed the true Romney, and he erased any doubts that I had about him. Romney absolutely Clobbered Obama! Obama was hardly funny, much more laughter for Romney, but all he said was true!
Kell and Fiona, I would say your response is not "Optimal".
Under this President, the world has deteriated not been enhanced. We have a global crisis of confidence in every institution of government. Democracies as well as Theocracies are crumbling. We need a new World leader. If President Obama is re-elected you'll need water, canned food and bullets - very soon. If Romney is elected you will still need them but at least you will get to keep and use them. The crusades
have reignited because of this President's total incompetence in foreign affairs. Radical Islam must be abandoned or destroyed. Which of these two men will fight to do that? Certainly not the one who has four years of traveling the world apologising for America and sticking up for Radical Islam. "We just have to be nice to them and they will leave us alone." wake up Democrats!!! It's not a left right thing, it's an American thing....
Gov. Romney made a fantastic speech as he will make a fantastic President. It's unfortunate that folks like Fiona have bought into the lies being told regarding Gov. Romney's past business experience and refuse to do research on their own.
Fiona should take a trip to Staples, Domino’s Pizza, Burger King, Dunkin’ Donuts, Gymboree, Toys R Us, Michael’s Craft Store or Burlington Coat Factory and ask the people there if they believe the lies she spewed in her comment. Those would be gainfully employed Americans who enjoy their jobs due to the hard work and PERSONAL money of Gov. Mitt Romney. Not every business succeeded, as not all do. It's a fact however that Bain Capital was only called in after all of those companies were already going under. Fiona expects a 100% success rate from a private citizen and yet excuses Obama's pitiful failures these past four years.
I don't believe you to be a campaign worker, just another uninformed person (with a very poor attitude) who chooses to bury her head in the sand.
Wow, some great, zingers. If Obama had his speech writer, he would be doing much better. As for the comments above, Fiona, Kell. Why the vitriol? I know Obama cant take a joke, but lets face it, you cant either. "This campaign is brought to you by the letter "O" and the number 16 trillion".... thats brilliant, regardless of which side you're on. It will be nice to have a president with a sense of humor again.
Oh my dear Kell, lighten up. Good fun can be had by all if they simply would not take themselves so seriously in times when lighthearted poking is the rule of the day. Even our President was self depricating, good for him.
Fiona, yes Mitt Romney was called in to save the olympics precisely because money was being unwisely spent and unaccounted for. He brought a failing olympics to its' proper glory. Hmm not to dissimilar to what he will be doing for our wonderful country. Bless the two of you, have a nice day
Romney killed it last night!!
Fiona and Kell get your head out of the sand!!!
This is hard to say but this president does not like America or our past. How can you and others who support such an agenda, willingly submit yourself to such government control. We have continuely lost freedoms through previous administrations, and that has only been accelerated with Obama.
Do you really believe a progressive government has your best interest at heart? Do you really think the government can make better decisions than you can?? Come on, wake up!!
This was a NON-PARTISAN event. Kell: you missed the point and the humor. I thought the President’s best line was about Chris Matthews, although he did have a couple of good ones about his first debate. Romney had many more such as the headline he thought the media would print about the event: "Obama Embraced by Catholics. Romney Dines with Rich People". Then the Big Bird straw man and Sesame Street comment; or wishing Joe Biden was there because he laughs at anything.
Fiona: stop thinking political ads are factual. Even Bill Clinton said Romney’s record at Bain was exemplary. 23 million unemployed, stopped looking or under employed is a factual number. The number comes from the Bureau of Labor & Statistics. 15 million more people added to food stamps in the last 4 years is accurate. $16 trillion in debt is accurate. The President has not passed a budget in four years. The one budget he submitted this year did not receive ANY votes in congress. Zero. No democrats voted for it. Even Nancy Pelosi did not vote for it. That should tell you something.
Congratulations to both gentlemen for raising $5 million for the charity!
Loved it. As for honesty vs deception... how does "it was the video" in reference to the terrorist attack in Libya? Too many Americans are so misguided and lost in some utopic dreamland. Come back to earth, open your eyes, and face reality.
"We have to pass the bill so that you can read it!" Thanks Nancy. That was just wonderful.
Make up your own mind. For a complete list of BO's 2008 campaign promises, you can go to this website: http://blatantreality.com/2009/05/22/complete-list-of-obamas-campaign-promises/ and read those promises on Obama/Biden's own stationary as they put them out during the 2008 campaign. Read them and judge for yourselves how he did. And don't blame his failures on Republicans. He had a super majority his first two years in office and lost it due to his own ineptitude and that of people like Frank, Pelosi, and Reid.
Finally, “The American Jobs Act will create 1.9 million jobs and reduce unemployment by a full percentage point.” Really? Really.
He's failed miserably, and now instead of standing on his record he has resorted to personal attacks and attempts to generate class warefare because that is ALL he has.
BTW, when he got elected I was actually hopeful that he would do most of what he said he would do. I believed the guy at the time. That's over. I don't believe any more.
This was a roast and your words were way off base. Liberals are so down on America.
Fiona, you are delusional. It is your own candidate Obama who lied. Only he did not limit himself to once a minute. You are so partisian you cannot think clearly.
The hard truth is Romney used brilliant humor to nail Obama right where he lives. This is what satire is all about. Very funny because it is very true. Of course you are too clueless to see that which is why you still support Obama.
A TEACHER ASKED HER 6TH GRADE CLASS HOW MANY OF THEM WERE OBAMA FANS. NOT REALLY KNOWING WHAT A OBAMA FAN IS . BUT WANTING TO BE LIKED BY THE TEACHER , ALL THE KIDS RAISRD THEIR HANDS EXCEPT FOR JOHNNY . THE TEACHER ASKED LITTLE JOHNNY WHY HE DECIDED TO BE DIFFERENT. LITTLE JOHNNY SAID. BECAUSE I'M NOT A OBAMA FAN , THE TEACHER ASKED , WHY AREN'T YOU A OBAMA FAN ? JOHNNY SAID . BECAUSE I'M A REPUBLICAN . THE TEACHER ASKED HIM WHY HE'S A REPLUBLICAN .LITTLE JOHNNY ANSWERED , WELL MY MON'S A REPUBILCAN AND MY DAD'S A REPUBILCAN, SO I', A REPUBILCAN. ANNOYED BY THE ANSWER , THE TEACHER ASKED , IF YOUR MOM WAS A MORON AND YOUR DAD WAS A IDIOT , WHAT WOULD THAT MAKE YOU? WITH A BIG SMILE , LITTLE JOHNNY REPLIED , THAT WOULD MAKE ME A OBAMA FAN. ====== REMEMBER VOTE FOR YHE MORMON NOT THE MORON
Perhaps, a graduate of the local madrassa? or a drop-out?
To Kell and Fiona-you are both wrong. This man is so very respected. You never hear the great things this man has done for his fellow citizens. You are just upset because your man, Obama, has done nothing in his life to warrant respect. In 4 yrs he has brought our Country down to a 3rd world level. More people on welfare, food stamps and unemployment. He does not have a vision for what he will do for the next 4 years, except bring us down more. He is a socialist. Remember what he told the Russian President, "Tell Vladimir I'll have more flexibility after the elections."
Did you ever wonder what he meant by that? So go ahead and vote for the socialist again. I'll wave to you as I go by the bridge you'll be living under!
Hey Kell, nothing stings worse than the truth, huh?
Hey Fiona, nice job puking up the libtard's talking points... but you left out the latest (and most feeble one of all), the whole "binder" pap. Why don't you ask Uh-bama why he pays his women staffers significantly less than his men, huh? And speaking of the "war on women," what better soldier could your party have in it than Bubba Clinton himself?
There's nothing funnier, or more pathetic than a libtard on defense.
The two commenters immediately above are certainly entitled to their opinions--I actually watched the Romney comments live and didn't find him gross or insulting. He was fairly charming, self-deprecating and very funny; he also finished with an incredibly gracious note to the President and the country. The President was also very charming and funny, as he usually is. I almost forgot how brutal this campaign has been for both men and hoped for a minute they both were able to enjoy themselves for a minute. But I suspect anyone who capitalizes "FORWARD" in his/her comment would find anything Romney does distasteful.
Manufacturing your own facts (as Fiona does), however, is more than a little problematic. If you want to allege that Romney mismanaged or embezzled federal funds from the Olympics, then go ahead and produce your sources--I am sure the Obama campaign would love to take a look at your opposition research. And have you been to a Sports Authority lately? A Staples? Not exactly "drained of all resources," are they? Suggestions that Romney was "lying once a minute"? Really? And Democrats are the paragons of truth? Campaigns are rife with distortions and exaggerations, but calling someone a liar simply sounds like an effort to dismiss his points without having to deal with them. If you believe so strongly in the power of your ideas, you should not have to worry about trumping lies. Otherwise, it just sounds like deliberate propaganda to me, not an "honest response."
Learn to laugh.
Perhaps, a graduate of the local Madras? or a drop-out?
Mackenzie, it would appear as though you and 'fact check' are strangers to one another.
There is so much misinformation on Mitt. Here are some things that most don't know about him or, even more important, why financial allegations against Mitt from Obama don't stand on their own.
1. Mitt loves this country and understands that the Job, his State or this Country are what's important, not him.
2. As Governor, he drew no pay. This is because the state was deep in debt and that getting things sound financially was more important than the wage.
3. As for his off shore investments, Obama has his pension fund also in the Cayman Islands and is deeply invested in China.
4. Obama has a bigger pension than Mitt. That is correct, a bigger pension because of Illinois generous pension fund plan and because Mitt has no pension – Mitt was not on the payroll as Governor and as such does not qualify for a pension.
5. Mitt has met people who are struggling face to face and did everything he could to help them, Obama can’t stand these people and won’t even help out his own struggling family members, besides his wife and two daughters.
Even with knowledge of what Carter’s Presidency did to this country, I would vote for Jimmy Carter over Obama. I would do this because, while Carter was a failure as President, he loved this country and honest thought he was doing the right thing. In contrast, Obama hates this country and is trying to give it a ginormous make-over and ‘We the People’ are paying the price for that.
Gentle Kel and Fiona,
Romney insulting and gross....?
Romney lied almost once a minute?
Knowing how you dislike Romney for being so insulting, gross and non-stop lying, there can be no doubt you both passionately detest and hate Obama for his four years of doing the same and more, at a magnitude greater in degree, and would never consider voting for Obama, knowing you both to be fair and objective. People who would never judge one person by a different standard than you judge another.
The only question left is who you both will vote for, in view of your hate for both Romney and Obama? Ron Paul perhaps...
RH
Fiona - how can a person buy a company, fire everyone, drain all the resources, and still make money? Just once, I'd like to hear some anti-capitalist explain how that works. By your logic, I should be able to burn my house down, divorce my wife, spend all my pension on toys and goodies, and somehow be better off for having done all that.
Kell,
Don't get too ahead of yourself. I think you should enjoy the remaining time Obama has in office while he's still there. All indications point to a Romney victory.
And Fiona,
Perhaps you could explain exactly what he lied about. Anyone who says he LIED won't tell you what it was he lied about. And any particular circumstance they try to point to is a stretch at best. The president has campainged around mischaracterizing everything Romney has said since before he won the Republican nomination, and his bubble of yes-men and sympathetic media has done him no favors in NOT taking him to task for it because now Obama actually believes his own political rhetoric. And now when Romney rebutts the President's mischaracterization of his own words, Obama's only possible argument to this is "he's lying!" Its the most outright childish and immature tactic I've ever seen from a president and independents don't like it. Thats why after those on the left gleefully declared the vice presidential debate and second presidental debate "decisive" victories for the incumbent Democrats (and their rank and file enthusiatically ate it up) the polls continued to slide in favor of Romney. The independent and undecided American populace are tired of this exact type of childish bickering and Obama and his administration have done themself no favors recently.
The words of his Administration are the words I'd be more worried more about "falling on the ears of everyday Americans" badly. And the polls reflect that's the case.
Hey Kell & Fiona... keep your heads in the sand and keep drinking the Kool Aid too. Got your taxpayer funded "Obama-phone"?
Give me a break Fiona and Kell. Stop regurgitating the MSM trash. Your talking points are rubbish spewed from the likes of MSNBC. People like you should be put on a boat and shipped off to Cuba. Then you'll get a good idea where this country is going under Obama.
Obamabots = FAIL
Im a Democrat voting for Romney. The Dem party has turned into garbage these past four years
ROMNEY RYAN 2012!
Fiona, you are like so many people - you think you can just throw something out and it is going to be believed. You are obviously sour grapes!! The Utah Olympics was one of the most successful in history. Mr. Romney is an incredibly successful man in everything he attempts - from his business ventures to the raising of 5 great kids. Everything in Mr. Romney's life has lead him to this point. America is being given another chance here!! Fiona, I beg you to pick up and good book and read!!
I LOVED Ogre's comments, especially the one regarding Snoop Dog - great stuff!!!
He goes up in polling numbers every time he speaks, obviously he is doing something right.
I'm an everyday American and I'm thrilled to listen to Governor Romney speak. I love to listen to the haters, the people who don't actually create wealth. I won't assume you're an Obama campaign worker Fiona, the same way you accuse Judie, but clearly you don't know what venture capital companies do.
Here are some of the many companies Bain has invested in:
AMC Entertainment, Aspen Education Group, Brookstone, Burger King, Burlington Coat Factory, Clear Channel Communications, Domino's Pizza, DoubleClick, Dunkin' Donuts, D&M Holdings, Guitar Center, Hospital Corporation of America (HCA), Sealy, The Sports Authority, Staples, Toys "R" Us, Warner Music Group and The Weather Channel
Staples in particular, which employs tens of thousands of workers, was created almost entirely with money from Bain.
And yes, Bain makes money doing this. Horrors! They make money!
I suppose you'd rather they lost money, like Solyndra, or A123, or any of the other companies that the Obama administration has given taxpayer money to, only to see them go bankrupt - after paying huge salaries and bonuses to their corporate officers.
@Kell: You should have watched. The audience loved him. It was humor for heaven’s sake. Sharp, biting, poignant humor, yes, but humor nonetheless. I will, however, concede that the old adage is indeed true in this case: "More truth is spoken in jest than in courts of law." Despite the humor, I found that his closing few statements, in particular, were strikingly presidential in content and conciliatory and respectful in tone.
@Fiona: If there is a campaign worker in the conversation, it is plain to see who it is. Could those just be the Obama campaign's talking points you are spouting? The only way Romney's words can be perceived as "lies" is when they (being the truth) are naively compared, side by side, with the deceptions that masquerade for truth in political advertisements from the Obama camp. Like the kid on the playground, yelling "Liar, liar, pants on fire" does not make it so. You have been drinking the propaganda Kool-Aid my friend...
Our Nation is on the edge of a cliff. We have wasted 4 years on hope and change and it is only getting worse. We all wanted BO to be a successful president. Now our patience is worn down to hoplessness and change we do not want. It is time to elect someone with the education, talent, energy, and experience to turn this train wreck around. Even saying all of that, the next president will need our goodwill, patience and sacrifaces to save America's future for ourselves and espically our children. It will not be easy. I hope we all can come together and save America.
How surprising that some will point out "lies" by Governor Romney, but leave the "factual inaccuracies" and naive "mis-understandings" of reality by the President.
It's no surprise that CNN had to come clean (after the debate) that in fact, the President never did admit that the murder of the Americans in Libya was a terrorist attack for two weeks, it just wasn't "optimal" for his campaign to say such at the time. Or, that its patently false that Planned Parenthood provides mammograms for women, just contraception and abortions (with government funding). Saved energy jobs (coal) in Pennsylvania and Virginia. Oh, and that he truly has the well being of our service men and women in mind (yeah right) as he patiently waits for the next round of funding cuts to the DOD to take place. As threats to this nation grow worse because of his failed foreign policy and cumbayá attitude toward our enemies.
But I digress, you're in an alternate universe if you expect any drastic change from whoever is in office. This was a lighthearted, fundraising event that every "rich" politician, socialite and journalist has attended for several decades. Take it all with a grain of salt and have a cold one after work, its Friday!
Obama needs to pack his bag -- oh, and his luggage too!!
Romney, like Reagan has great sense of humor. I never trust anyone who cannot laugh at himself.
You have a typo (or was it?) in the transcript:
And I've already seen early reports from tonight's dinner, headline; "Obama Embraced by Catholics. Romney Dies with Rich People."
"Dies" should be "Dines" which is exactly what Romney said:
And I've already seen early reports from tonight's dinner, headline; "Obama Embraced by Catholics. Romney Dines with Rich People."
To Kell; It is odd to hear you say those words. If you listened to or watched any of the public speeches that Mr. Obama gave the day after the first debate, he was more disrespectful and derisive that Mr. Romney has ever been. By the way, "Forward" is a Marxist mantra. Thank you for letting us know that you are a Communist.
To Fiona: Are you serious? It is clear to everyone that you are repeating what you have been told (like a good little soldier). One can tell that you do not listen to ALL sides of the story. The Government did not HAVE to bail out the Olympics but seeing as how there was a $400,000,000 shortfall due to bribery scandals; Mr. Romney approached them for financial assistance. Just controlling where the funds went and making sure that the Olympics actually did happen is a feat in and of itself.
If you had actually read anything about Romney's time at Bain, you would have understood that if they HAD NOT stepped in, those companies would have gone bankrupt and forced to close their doors in a matter of weeks or months. Bain did what ALL OTHER Venture Capitalist firms do...bailed them out and restructured them so that EVERYONE could make money. Bain is not the only company that does this. Bain had a policy of only taking on 1 Client per industry type and when other consulting firms saw that there were opportunities to step in where Bain could not, they did so...and they also made money. Do not forget that there are thousands of people who invest in these firms to make money...even you may have invested in one. Profits made from these ventures are put BACK INTO the economy.
Since when did making money become a crime? It is clear to see that making money became a crime when our dear Marxist leader Barack Obama, schooled by Marxist patriots, reared by Communist parents and molded by radical terrorists took the seat in the Oval Office. You do understand that if this attack on the Prime Movers (people who create jobs and wealth) does not cease, they will leave this country and take with them their innate ability to do so and just leave a vacuum in their wake.
I create value for this country. I help to put in place the communications network that allows people to have access to information using their free "Obama Phones". I make certain that the networks that provide for this flow of information are always there. I design better and faster networks that help to grow the sharing of information and ideas. I contribute. Romney does the same. Obama DOES NOT. He TAKES from those who have sacrificed their time, effort and intellectual ideas and he gives it to people who REFUSE to step up to the plate and prove themselves to be Human instead of parasitic leeches.
When the Yuan (china’s Dollar equivalent) overtakes the Dollar, and becomes the World’s Reserve Currency, our American Dollar will be worth next to nothing. The price of a loaf of bread will be too much for most families to handle. Fuel costs will exceed the grasp of most Americans and basic everyday items will be unobtainable. If this administration keeps spending us into unending debt, this is EXACTLY what will happen. We need someone in the Oval Office who knows how to MAKE money instead of SPEND money.
4 more years of this will absolutely kill this country.
How fortunate we are to live in such a great country where people can put aside their differences, coming together to support our country's much needed Catholic Charities. The time honored tradition of political candidates sharing the stage entertaining audiences with their light humor and political savvy is priceless. However, given the extremely tense political divide our country's citizens are finding themselves in with each new election season, it is no surprise some people cannot find the humor so obviously displayed last night.
Fiona,
Not sure what propoganda or koolaid you've been drinking. I live in Utah, was very aware of what Mitt did during the Olympics, and I can say truthfully that Mitt saved the Olympics. He came in when it was mired in scandal, way behind financially, and tanking. There was talk of giving up the bid. Mitt came in, took over the job while refusing a salary, and pulled off an Olympics that was a credit to this country, made money, and removed the stigma and stench of corruption. How you can come out and try and claim the federal government had to "come in and rescue him" is beyond me. You say Mitt "lied (not exaggerated or erred) almost once a minute" offer no proof, then pull out a blatant lie about the Olympics as your support? Apparently lying is your thing.
As a venture capitalist, he did excel. That is the extent of the truthfulness of your comments. He took over FAILING businesses, ones that were doomed to fail, and turned them around where possible and where it was impossible, was able to generate something from the disaster that the previous managment had put them. Yes, he made money, but everyone got more out of the deal than they would have had he not done it. There are plenty of disgruntled former employees of those companies that try and say Mitt did that to them, but none of them can say they would have fared better had he not tried to step in.
I would say if you aren't an Obama campaign worker, you at the very least are a mindless Obama drone that drinks the koolaid enough to believe the drivel you post is an honest response.
Honesty and progressivism seem incompatible.
For example, Obama taking credit for the amazingly huge increase in natural gas and oil production generated by private companies experimenting, drilling, and producing from private land (larger tracts of public lands remain off-limit under Obama's policies). Oh and funded by private venture capitalists like Bain Capital.
Meantime, billions of our taxes disappeared into "investments" in hopelessly ineffective leftist green toys.
Romney has an unlimited supply of humor to mine from the bedrock joke that is the Obama administration.
Brian ... you and I are in complete agreement. I have been suffering these four years, watching the direction this admin is taking our country. But, here's the thing, I have heard from 8 friends of mine or eagerly voted for Obama last time who are not voting for him again.
Did you see that Romney now leads Obama in the "likeability" polls. The one thing everyone said Obama will always lead in. Well, it was never my opinion that he was "likeable" ... he's been a loner all his life, and when with anyone they were always someone who hated America ... so how could he "like" this country and as such, beneath the surface, that dislike for what America is colors what he believes and is his personality.
Prediction: Romney wins 350 electoral votes and 55% plus of the popular votes.
It will be a blow out ... and the Dems are beginning to fear that very thing.
Great remarks. Many of the jokes were quite funny. Well delivered. He's looking good, healthy, upbeat, ready to be President!
Kell
You are choosing to be offended..my God life is too short, lighten up!!
I thoroughly enjoyed and laughed heartily at Mr. Romney's speach but what impressed me the most were these replies. THANK YOU my fellow Romney supporters!! Your depth of knowledge and understanding of the truth in your replies blew me away. The shallow remarks of the two dissenters painted a clear portrait of the ignorance that abounds on the left.
Really? You're allowing the media to think for you; he's not the creep you'd like him to be. Like the decent man he is, Romney ended with these remarks in TRIBUTE to the president:
"Our president has had some very fine and gracious moments. Don't tell anyone I said so, but our 44th president has many gifts and a beautiful family that would make any man proud. In our country, you can oppose someone in politics and make a confident case against their policies without any ill will and that's how it is for me. There's more to life than politics."
Romney has been painted as a creep by his opposition. American EYES are now seeing him for who he truly is...And Romney WILL be our next president.
Wise words, Frank. Enjoy your Friday!
Hilarious! Go Romney! With the past 4 years of Obama, the jokes write themselves!
Comment section extra funny with the Obama propaganda! Successful Olympics organizer and businessman turns into more "he didn't build that" and lies. Obama supporters need to get out a lil more often and get all the facts straight. Everything you know you learned from MSNBC? Figures...
Having read the Liberal devotees comments about Governor Romney, I just have to bring to min comments attributed to Ronald Regan when President, "THE TROUBLE WITH LIBERALS IS NOT THAT THEY ARE IGNORANT; IT IS THAT THEY KNOW SO MUCH THAT ISN'T TRUE."
Mitt Romney Rocks the house. He was awesome.
I noticed watching Obama that he looks like he knows he is going to lose. You can see it in his eyes and his demeanor
Because Obama has done such an amazing job!
Kell, you got any more of that weed?
I got home last night just in time to see Romney tear Obama in half and the crowd obviously LOVED Romney as he actually had jokes and was well versed.....Obama got up there and winged it, looked depressed doing it and in general was doing everything he could to muster even the simplest smile......
Why? Becuase Obama knows it's over......
Romney 2012.
Great and reasoned comment and as clear a description of most Democrats as I have ever seen.
Wow - Obama is falling farther and farther behind in almost every national poll and his koolaid drinkers keep on drinking his poison. Glad to see a majority of Americans have begun doing their own homework and now are beginning to see the emperorr has no clothes!
You are so wrong!
Hate to tell you this, but stuggling businesses don't have a whole lot of money sitting around for Romney to "drain". You obviously are clueless as to how business actually functions.
Yes, and Obama making jokes about strokes was laugh-out-loud hilarious, right?
Tom - please, I liked your comment, but the second half seems more like Obama's plan ...
Comments are great. Let me check this is the CHICAGO Sun Times here in Obama country.
I look so forward to having civility, honor and integrity in the White House again. President Romney. Sounds nice, doesn't it?
Oh no doubt Romney KILLED last night and the Dems can't stand it.
But please, Obama leaves such a target rich environment for comedy that these jokes are just waiting to be told. Shame on so called political comedy shows such as Saturnday Night Live. Maybe they can loosen the media filter a little and be funny once again.
I heard the new medical breakthrough would benefit you greatly...Endorphins in a capsule. THAT was the funniest speech I have every heard from anyone let alone a public figure!
If you really thought that wasn't funny, you have bigger social & psychological issues than I can assess here.
Guess you preferred obama's comment on Comedy Central when he referred to the death of Ambassador Stevens & the 3 other Americans as "Not Optimal" or Joe Biden's imitation of Jack Nicholson in The Shining during his debate or obama's pastor who said "NOT GOD BLESS AMERICA, GOD D____
AMERICA. Yes, your leader's pastor, mentor & confidant for TWENTY-TWO YEARS.
It is obvious you didn't read to the end. It's better if you listen, but your mind is so closed that it wouldn't do any good.
Another totally uninformed super-left paper pusher with entirely too many opinions and absolutely no solutions. You probably ARE better off now than four years ago, and you can thank the 50% of Americans who actually work 50 hour weeks for that. Best to insult Gov. Romney for all the success and integrity and character he possesses, which you quite obviously do not have. You should think before you speak sir. You're remark is gross.
Against the fact checks, Romney was noted by miles more accurate and honest than Obama. The $16 trillion deficit is not a lie or made up number. Obama lied, often, about Libya.
Romney graduated at the top or very near the top of Harvard Business and Law schools simultaneously. He saved Bain and many other businesses (if he was in the habit of raiding and selling businesses, he wouldn't have lasted). He saved Massachusetts (with no pay). He saved the 2002 Winter Olympics (said he'd only accept pay if it made a profit). He saved a business partner's daughter and sacrificed millions in revenue in so doing. He ministered to congregants on his watch and they applaud him in glowing terms for it.
Obama spent his time in Hawaii clogging his system with "choom". He somehow went from one expensive school to another despite not having the means to pay for it. He hobnobbed with anarchists, socialists, communists, and terrorists, all of whom agreed that America is a place worth destroying, not defending. His mother praised his father even though daddy was already married when they met and left her to go looking for more. His mother taught him to idolize his father, the drunk driving, manslaughtering, bigamist malcontent who abandonded them, even while her 2nd husband tried to provide a better life for them and she hated him for not hating America like she did. Obama married a woman who, like him, had her license to practice law taken away, and was never proud of this country until her racial insecurity was placated by his presidency (even though he'd already made himself wealthier than most Americans will ever be as a political activist, and then went on to elected positions in state and federal legislature. And before he even finished one term as a US senator, and without any vetting by a liberal media who prefers propaganda over truth, he was elected president of the US. He campaigned on many as yet unfulfilled promises, one of them being transparancy. He pursued this promise with Obamacare and other proposals that were thousands of pages long, and pushed them through so fast that no one had enough time to read them first (remember Pelosi saying we had to pass it first, then read it?).
And now, after doubling our national debt in just four years, which is now approximately $16 trillion, we're being told that it is still the fault of a man whose name wasn't on the ballot when he ran last time and still isn't this year, and that even though the last 4 years have brought us farther from recovery, we just need to give him four more (without a reelection at the end of them, by the way), so he can finally get around to doing what he's failed to do so far. Word has it that Vladimir Putin knows what that might be.
Even if the neighbor's dog was the other candidate, I still wouldn't be voting for Obama.
Wow, you have no clue, just like Obama, both of you just go away.
Hmmm. Fernandez.. that sounds hispanic to me. Maybe you are going to be veeery happy when Mr. Romney impose self deportation on you and your family. Or when the police stop you in the street because you look like and illegal to them. So much for freedom. But hey, on the bright side you are going to get a free ride back to banana town. But yeah, I think thats the America that you will love.
P.S. DemocRats, for real??? Come on girl, I think you can do a little better than that.
Ha! Finally the TV and radio media offered Romney the venue and airwaves to tell The Dear Leader, even if a joking format, a good deal of all what he must be told as the Great Destroyer (read the book) of America.
Romney took the offer, and walloped The Dear Leader with quips about facts in The Dear Leader's ideological/political/policies record since getting himself burrowed squatting on White House premisses.
All what Romney did was using Obama's medicine, that is, Obama's mentor Saul Alinsky's Rule for Radicals # 5: ridicule your adversary. And Romney ridiculed The Dear Leader with ridiculing-jokes built from undeniable facts about Obama's ideological/political/policies behavior at the White House and on the campaign trial.
Great job, Romney!! Bravo!!! Keep pummeling The Great Destroyer, for that's the least he deserves within the circumscription of lawfulness and peacefulness.
What our Re-,er, Progressive commenters here have not realized, is that they no longer hold a monopoly on Alinsky Rules Five and Six ... they are now a two-way street.
And if the rest of you are representative of the people of IL, I have hope for your great state, which happened to be my home for many years.
BO is such an insult to America, Christians, and honest hard working, law abiding citizens. When his lips are moving you can be assured he is lying. Can't wait for him to be gone, gone, gone, WORST president ever. May the devil take him home.
what turned it for me was the appalling comments that the president made on Jon Stewart about ' not optimal' to lose 4 Amercans. I felt like vomitting what an awful cold and callous statement. The president must go - we need a real leader. I am voting for Mitt Romney.
It really bothers me when the news people interview people that are for Obama. They don't know anything about current events and obviously haven't read a newspaper or seen a TV program. One man was all for Obama but when the interviewer asked about his vice president, the man didn't even KNOW who the vice president is now or who was running with Obama for the current election. People that vote owe it to their country to be informed and to have the mental facilities to make a wise decision concerning their leadership. If a person is informed and has good reasons for voting the way they on planning on voting, I repect their opinion. If they are voting for someone because of the color or their skin or because of something that happened 150 years ago (slavery), I have absolutely NO respect. Wake up people. Our country can't stand another 4 years of Obama.
Anyone who is thinking about voting for Obama needs to watch the movie, "2016, Barack Obama". If that doesn't scare you enough to vote for someone else, You don't have a pulse. The man is dangerous!
Domimos Pizza would have been more of a success if they HAD gone bankrupt. Have you eaten their pizza?! Yuk!
Thought Romney was funny,Obama had alot of laughs as well
Does anyone there actually spell check the transcripts? Some spellings miss the mark entirely, as in "Romney Dies with Rich People" instead of "Dines". In any case, I think Mr. Romney hit the nail on the head with these comments, especiallly those regarding the way the press treats conservatives vs. liberals in this country. Our founding fathers should be turning over in their graves after this election. Do I remember (following the second presidential debate) Ann's outfit getting top billing in some publications (about the cost thereof) while Michelle's outfit (which cost more) was buried some 5 paragraphs later?
Gov Romney completely outclassed the President. Ronald Reagan would have been envious of his wit and charm.
Pres Obama earned a JD from Harvard........well done. Gov Romney earned a JD and MBA while at Harvard while raising two kids. Very well done.
President Obama has met his match and will be GONE 1/20/2013.
funny, but check out a funny account of Mitt in Massachusetts on budget balancing
And you think John McCain would have been better. George W. Bush is the reason this country is in the financial situation it is. It took him 8 years to twiddle his thumbs and go to pig roasts and it's going to take 8 more years to fix it and Romney is in no way a good candidate. He flip flops more than a fish out of water. He wants to take away your right to choose and to equal pay. He said it himself, he is only concerned with 47% of America. Well sadly for him, being the president requires caring about 100% of America not just the old white males with millions of dollars.. Then again who knows, you might be one of those women in the binder he has.
