Former U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.) will lead the pledge of allegiance at the final day of the Democratic National Convention.

"Gabby will attend the convention tonight and will deliver the pledge of allegiance," Giffords' spokeswoman Hayley Zachary told CNN.

Giffords was one of 13 people wounded in a mass shooting in 2011 that targeted the congresswoman as she met with constituents outside an Arizona grocery store. Six people were killed in the attack.

She recently moved back to her hometown of Tuscon from Houston to continue her recovery.

The Hill reported Wednesday that Giffords and her husband, astronaut Mark Kelly, will launch a political action committee, also led by former Kentucky Secretary of State Trey Grayson and former Clinton administration Secretary of Labor Robert Reich.

The group will support Democrats who "share Gabby and Mark's vision of a better future for America."
