Mickey Mouse leads the holiday procession on Saturday.

Magnificent Mile Lights Festival
All day Saturday along the Magnificent Mile; free
Let the holiday season begin! Mickey Mouse leads the parade of floats down Michigan Avenue as more than 1 million lights are illuminated to kick off the season. There will be music all day at the Harris Stage (401 N. Michigan Ave.) including Plain White T's at 3 p.m. There's also a fireworks display over the river starting at 7 p.m.

The Man Who Was Thursday
Through Saturday at Lincoln Park Cultural Center; $10-$12
The play, based on a century-old novel and gaining rave reviews, closed its run in town this weekend. Dan Granata steals the show as a spy in the center of a plot to destroy (and save?) civilization in 18th century London, part of a plot that's surprisingly topical today.

The Pixies
7:30 p.m. Thursday-Saturday at Aragon Ballroom, $47.50
There's some really good music in town this weekend (check out our must-see shows for more), and the Pixies are the cream of the crop. Rumor has it Black Francis and the crew will play classic album Doolittle ("Here Comes Your Man," "Wave of Mutilation") in its entirety sometime this weekend to commemorate the 20th anniversary of its release.

After the tasting, take a free trolley to Cubby Bear to see a rockin' show by local acts Lucid Ground, The Attraction, Along the Parallel and more (tickets are $10 for the show).

Just missed the cut: Savoy Brown, 1985, A Very Merry Unauthorized Children's Scientology Pageant
