FADO PRINCESS REIGNS
The Portuguese fado singer Mariza will appear at 8 p.m. Saturday at Symphony Center, 220 S. Michigan. While fado is a distinctly Portuguese folk music, it is like American blues in that it follows a recognizable structure, is often about love gone wrong and is best served up full of feeling. SO HOT
Jazz at Symphony Center presents We Insist — Max Roach’s Freedom Now Suite, in tribute to the late composer-musician Oscar Brown Jr. and the bicentennial of Abraham Lincoln’s birth. The tribute features Dee Dee Bridgewater, Ira Coleman, Lewis Nash, Billy Harper, Neil Clarke, Ray Mantilla, Cecil Bridgewater and Billy Harper. Also on the bill: Songs of My Father, a tribute to Oscar Brown Jr., featuring vocals by Maggie Brown. Show time is 8 tonight at 220 S. Michigan. Tickets are $24-$83. www.cso.org.

FISH TALE
Travel to some of the most exotic spots on earth with Under the Sea 3D, a new IMAX 3D show opening today at the Navy Pier IMAX Theatre. You will feel like you are swimming with the sea creatures as director Howard Hall and his crew roam the deep oceans off Australia, Indonesia and Papua New Guinea. BLACK PRIDE
Never before has Black History Month had quite the effervescence of this one. Perseverance and Persistence: An Exhibition of Pride, an exhibit open through Feb. 27 at Navy Pier, 600 E. Grand, chronicles the campaign and election of President Barack Obama through photos, video and front-page articles, as well as photos of other African-American pioneers in medicine, science, sports, literature, business, politics and other fields. PATRIOTIC DEAL
