Looptopia is dead, long live Best of Looptopia

No more need to jack up on coffee to make it through the dusk-till-dawn Looptopia fest of dancing, nightclubbing and street theater. The annual event is finished — but new mini-events are popping up in its place.

On the third Thursday of each month from May through September, the Chicago Loop Alliance will stage 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. celebrations at downtown hot spots, featuring popular programs from the city's past two Looptopias. "Third Thursdays: Best of Looptopia" is being announced at today's Chicago Loop Alliance annual meeting.

The Thursday events will be staged near new venues such as the Art Institute's Modern Wing, slated to open May 16; the Wit Hotel, which will open in May at 201 N. State St. with a year-round rooftop bar and restaurant; and the newly resuscitated Pritzker Park at State and Van Buren.

Ah. The thought of that makes the next six weeks of winter almost bearable. Almost.
