Day three of Oprah Winfrey's "Best Life" series took on a revelation even Oprah Winfrey says she's never heard.

Responding to a viewer who Skyped into the show to talk about being gay, one of Winfrey's panelists, The Rev. Ed Bacon, declared being gay is a "gift from God."

Bacon is the rector of All Saints Episcopal Church in Pasadena, Calif., a well-known liberal and progressive church.

"Well you are the first minister I've ever heard say being gay is a gift from God, I can tell you that," Winfrey said.

"We're not talking religion, we're talking spirituality," said Michael Bernard Beckwith, founder and spiritual director of Agape International Spiritual Center in Los Angeles. . "People don't just happen to be gay. When people are born, they have that type of orientation, so he is gay by diving right."

Being gay is more than okay, it's the way it is. Accept it. Homosexuality is as natural as life and death. You know what your problem is? You've never read the bible. I would bet anything. You may hear sermons, interpretations, stories...but you've never read it yourself, have you? Cover to cover? The bible is an objective experience that you have not had. Also, you are nuts. Any religion without love, compassion and forgiveness is false. It's a lie. You are NOT gay. You cannot speak for anyone or to anyone on the subject. It is not your life. Could you perform brain surgery tomorrow? No. Because you are not a neurosugeon. Could you work on all street? No. Because you are not a stock broker. Could you design and build a 17th century French gown? No, because you are not a costume designer. If I tell you my favorite color is red, are you going to tell me that can't possibly be true, because you heard my favorite color was blue?
The point here is, you have no idea what you are talking about. You have a book that SEEMS like it might tell you whats up, a manual for life perhaps? Well, life has no manuals and sometimes things are not black and white. Life and all of it's meaning and mysteries cannot fit into a book of any size. I'm gay and I'm telling you if god is real, then he created gay people. If he is not, then nature created gay people. You know how I know this? Because, unlike you, I LIVE IT EVERY DAY. You do not walk in others shoes, you do not experience another persons conciousness. Stick to whatever beliefs you'd like, but don't argue with the experts. You are just encouraging blind hate. Something I doubt very much "God" would approve of. Don't speak for the creator of the universe. That is arrogance at it's most disgusting...a far greater sin.
Cast the first stone...

"Stoning people who piss you off is perfectly acceptable. They do it in the Bible, don't they?"

Please, plese tell me how can I acquire two tickets to an Oprah televised setting?

Many thanks for your reply.

Ariel Allera: Yes, Being Gay is a Gift from God... And why not?

What Ed Bacon and Michael Beckwith said on Oprah is the most liberating and heartwarming statement I've ever heard on homosexuality. I've never hidden myself in the closet so that after I watched that particular episode on YouTube, I'm now as enlightened as both a gay male citizen in the Philippines and a human being, let alone God's child. I believe in the Bible and of course in the Word of God, and I know we have to live according to His will. What's in the Bible can be as broad as far as our minds should be, and so there's more to it than what it could literally mean. What is definitely for certain (and a hundred-percent the true) is that God's love is unconditional so that so long as we are at peace with the Lord, no matter what we do or what our decisions are, we will always be guided and should never get lost, and that includes where the thought of being gay is concerned which is, thankfully, a gift from God. Hence, God bless all the gays on earth. (ariel_allera@yahoo.com)

Ultimately, whatever your opinion on homosexuality, God speaks of compassion and love. Love thy neighbour. Do not judge others. I think these are the biblical statements we need to adhere to.

Maybe homosexuality is a sin. Maybe it isn't. I know one thing - I am not free of sin. None of us are.

i just dont think that pastor wore his right mind. whaats wrong with the world today

If being gay is a gift from God then why did He destroy Sodom and Gomotrah? Ask Bacon to explain that one?

I really don't understand how Oprah can allow this man to continue to be on her show with him making such a comment that he did. If he reads the bible it clearly states men should not sleep with men and women not with women how in the world is this a gift from GOD to be gay?.
Oprah I really think you need to surround yourself with better spiritual advisors. you really need to bet back into your baptist roots and seek GOD for yourself these people that you have as your advisors can not get you into heaven and they can not go for you so you really need to 2nd Timothy 2:15 "Study to show thyself approved unto God. a workman that needth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth".
You are surrounding yourself around people who don't even preach the word of GOD. Yes we should be postitive and have peace in our life but where does that motivation comes from?. For me it's hearing and believing in the word God. Me and my family is literally living from pay check to pay check and it makes me feels good when I read the bible and hear my Pastor preach that my God shall supply all my needs. I know that there is a higher power than me and for me his name is Jesus the son of God who died on the cross for my sins and yours whether you believe it or not. you need to start calling on the sweet name of Jesus he will never let you down.

have a bless day

and remember every knee must bow and every tongue must confess.

It's sad to know that people go through life not understanding the gift they are because of social structures and religion's long rooted tradition of persecution. I grew up in a Pentacostal church. I sang in the choir, played piano by ear from since the 3rd grade, and was very "creative" and "sensitive", which later I understood were code for "gay". And I promise you it's the God Honest truth. I was so beat down from the church and my family that my gift was almost stolen from me.

I don't see my being transgender as a physical condition, but a spiritual one. I do feel it's a spiritual gift, to see from more than one perspective. To create a new & unique balance of masulinity and femininity. My life is my art. I am where I am today because I stepped away from what I saw to be collectively insane definitions of who I am and ideologies of Who and What God is.

I started with "The Voice of Knowledge" and "The Four Agreements" by Carlos Miguel Ruiz and then it all came unlocked for me with "The Power of Now" and "A New Earth" by Eckhart Tolle. I now know that I am a gift to this world. I stopped feeling as though I had to define myself to the world, and to myself, and learned to just be. I am happy to say the music is flowing again, like a flood. My upcoming project "When Two Worlds Collide" focus on my experiences from "the best and the worst of both worlds".

I am so glad to hear Rev. Bacon say that being Gay is a gift from God. I did not choose my sexuality and at times feel like I am some kind of freak because of what I know I have no control over. Thank you Oprah for having people like this on your show to give people like me hope. I live a secret everyday because I am among people that are so full of judgement. My family could not handle the truth about whom I really am, so I live a life of abstinence to keep from hurting my family. I hope some day it will be revealed that being gay starts in the womb and not as a choice just to be different. I would love to be able to share my life with someone some day but I am so scared of jumping into something that could get me killed or rejected by my friends and family. I do have hope now.

Thank you, Rev. Bacon. I have recently joined the Episcopal Church because of the acceptance (not just tolerance) that I have felt as I find my home church and explore my spirituality. I am a gift from God and I thank the Lord everyday for all the gifts bestowed on me.

Let me first start off by saying that when my mother told me what was said on the Oprah Show the other day, it was hard for me to believe it. It's hard for me to believe that two people that consider themselves men of God actually sat on nationwide television and stated that "being gay was a gift from God." By making that statement they allowed some lost soul that was confused about his or her sexuality feel like it is ok to be gay. It is not ok and the world need to stop saying that it is ok. The is nothing right about two people of the same sex lying down next to each other having sex to each other. IT IS A SIN. God is going to hold both of those guys responsible for making a stupid statement like that and helping to lead his creations into the fires of hell. I am glad that Oprah told them that she had never heard of any preacher making that statement. I really hate that they were allowed to get on a show like Oprah and make those ignorant statements.

God Bless their souls.

As a 68 female of Christian practice..I am thankful I was watching today...Spirituality and the practice thereof has grown by leaders such as were on..Thank you, Oprah.
