Expect receiver David Grimes and linebacker Brian Smith to play against Pittsburgh on Saturday, Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis said during his Tuesday press conference.
Grimes, who has missed the past two games because of back spasms, told Weis he was ready to practice this week. That said, Weis said that he wants to be sure that Grimes is spasm-free after practicing before making a final determination.
Smith, meanwhile, suffered a mild concussion late in Saturday's 33-7 win over Washington. Cognitive tests were negative. Weis said he would like to hold Smith out of practice as long as possible but that the sophomore should be ready for the Panthers.
"Even though it was a very, very mild concussion, the more time [off] the better," Weis said.
The full transcript of today's press conference will be posted ASAP.
