The ISAF, or International Security Assistance Force, is a military cooperation of NATO members and non-members in Afghanistan. It is run by a NATO commander. Its member nations are expected to attend the NATO summit in Chicago. The members are:

NATO was found April 4, 1949, to deter Soviet expansionism, prevent nationalist militarism in Europe and encourage European political integration. Its main purpose now is to protect member nations by political and military means.
