Billy Corgan helps porn star Sasha Gray celebrate her 21st birthday earlier this month.

A Corganphile much more dedicated to following his writings on the Web than I found and sent me the following curious post that the Great Pumpkin wrote a few weeks back, apologizing for...

Well, exactly why he is sorry isn't really clear. Could it be that he knew the split with Jimmy Chamberlin was looming? Was it his support of the Ticketmaster/Live Nation merger? His rants during the shows on the last tour? His selling his songs to TV commercials? Any or all of the above?

I'm not sure, but it's interesting reading. Here it is in its entirety.

Since it's a new year, let's try something new...

Let's try to forgive each other, support each other, be kind in our words and deeds, and get out of judging each other...

The world around us right now is very complicated...

I for one am very confused by much of the information I come across...

I am concerned about so many losing their jobs, homes, and peaceful lives under an increasingly curious set of circumstances...there are however new opportunities to be had, even in the worst of times...we are all affected by the changes that are going on on a global scale...the politics of egoism and cultural divides mean very little if you can't support your family, or help those in need, even if you want to help...it is a test for us now to find how to heal each other...i believe very strongly in the power of prayer to affect change and welcome in forgiveness...

I don't mind asking publicly for your forgiveness...if I have offended you somewhere along the way, out of my own ignorance or fear, please forgive me...it would be part of my own healing to be forgiven...

I can honestly say that if I have ever wanted to do anything in this life it has been to heal others thru my work...i have failed many times to shine some light in this world, but I can still try and try again...

Are you kidding me? are you really writing about this stupid entry? it's all summed up in the first sentence, there is really no need to go on about it. Boring.

Oh, for Christ's sake... this is just disgusting.

>>if I have offended you somewhere along the way, out of my own ignorance or fear, please forgive me

Okay, Gen. Pumpkin, if you want forgiveness, give up this Smashing Pumpkins moniker once and for all. 'Cause otherwise, I don't give a good g*d damn.

>>I can honestly say that if I have ever wanted to do anything in this life it has been to heal others thru my work...i have failed many times to shine some light in this world, but I can still try and try again...

I don't want you to heal others through your work, Billy; I want you to create good music. Remember "Rhinocerous?" Remember "1979?" Remember "Ava Adore?" That's what I want from you. I want songs that are actually good, not this "United States of America" B.S. Just write good songs. That's all I ask.

I'm always going to judge the Great Pumpkin against all he's done before. If you can't do something as good as you've done before, that's fine, but he needs to stop pretending that he can. TheFutureEmbrace was good only in that he stopped pretending that he could compete with what he'd done before. Now, I view the Neo-Pumpkins as a shell of the band that once-upon-a-time was. All I ask is that Billy be honest about what he is: a cynical narcissist who has no interest in the music and all interest in being a really boring, really irritating rock demagogue.

I don't get him. I agree with Brendan, it's about the music. I loved Zwan and TheFutureEmbrace... what was he thinking getting this Pumpkins thing going again?

He kind of makes me sick now. Pre-2001 Pumpkins are my favorite band ever, and contrary to what everyone else might say he is NOT the Pumpkins. The Pumpkins collectively were an idea and a symbol... that's right Wretzky, Iha, Chamberlain (best drummer) and Corgan... not just Corgan. Let's face it, it was about the image too. This new try at The Pumpkins is a parody at best.

Sorry to say.

The commercial was uncalled for, and supporting LiveNation/Ticketmaster is a horrible way to thank your fans. As far as the rants against fans, I wouldn't know, I boycotted that tour.

Good day!

Adam

p.s. Thanks for posting this Jim, you're my hero.

It's official: Billy has a bigger ego than Bono. His music is still wonderful, but I can do without his alternating between acting out & repenting.

This is obviously written by the same person that penned the words:
"Without sustainable, consistent economic models upon which to make key decisions, it is both the music and the fans that suffer."

Oh my grammar, Billy.

Dude, c'mon!!!!

You really look out of place in that photo.

I mean wearing something a highschooler would have on is just....wow.

Now, having said that, I'm a little jealous of the company he's with!!!

Get back to basics - songwriting.
