Smashing Pumpkins just won't go away

| 8 Comments | No TrackBacks

After a year and a half of avoiding Chicago following their first reunion gig in Paris, Billy Corgan, Jimmy Chamberlin and the hired hands just can't get enough of the Great Pumpkin's old stomping grounds.

The band has added a final show to its Chicago run, performing at the Aragon Ballroom on Sunday Dec. 7, the day before its Dec. 8 rescheduling of the Auditorium Theatre "White Crosses" show that the group canceled last Saturday because Corgan was feeling ill.

Promoters Jam Productions say the Aragon gig will break from the alternating two-part "Black Sunshine"/"White Crosses" set lists to deliver "a real barn-burnin' close-out of their 2008 tour" with "a unique stand-alone mix of songs."

No word on whether or not Corgan will include one of his performance-art monologues berating the paying customers and longtime fans.

General admission tickets for the Aragon show go on sale at 10 a.m. Wednesday at $45 each plus the usual egregious Ticketmaster convenience fees through www.ticketmaster.com or (312) 559-1212.

Um, William, if you were trying to make good to your most loyal fans for the canceled show and the conceptual harangues that nobody understood (and which some people took very personally), doncha think it would have been a more moving gesture to play a free show like the one at the World way back when?

Oh, well -- Happy Thanksgiving.

Interesting. Now how long until the rabid Pumpkins drones come here to once again post their disapproval of you calling out BC? I'm guessing a few minutes.

The show at the World wasn't free. The originally planned free show was to take place at Grant Park, which our good Mayor stopped. So the "free" part was removed, the venue was changed to Soldier Field, and then poor ticket sales then changed the venue one last time to the World.

Jim, did Billy not grant you an exclusive interview? Why all of the continuous snide remarks and not-so thinly veiled criticism? With all of the rock star BS you have seen and written about for ages, why does Billy Corgan seem to rile you so? It is precisely the kind of non-constructive negativity that is just not needed. And that goes for your continued disrespect of Jeff Schroeder, Ginger Reyes and Lisa Harrington by constantly dismissign these terrific new additions as "hired hands." For God's sakes--whether people liked it or not, the band gave a two-night/two-part performance, nearly three hours each, of just about 50 songs!! They could have easily phoned it in. They could have easily remained a studio band and not perform at all anymore. But no, this is what they chose to do and everything has to be torn down and for what exactly?!

Must miss!

In terms of your perception of the band Jim, I think you just might be as schizo and inconstant as Corgan.

Is the "berating" he did performance art that's a part of the show or is it truly a scourge upon the fans in which only a free show will compensate?

Complain when they don't come, complain when they do come.

you commentors are all WRONG!

You see. There was a better time for Mr. Corgan in this world... it passed when he gave up... blamed Nsync for his own band being out of sync... and out of touch.

So, he felt it would be BETTER for him to bring back the corpse of a band and revive it... but guess what? he brought back a dead band, and has been dragging it around, trying to make it sound relevant... it doesn't work.

We like to ADORE the memories of yesterday, but yesterday there was a different mood, a different feeling, and SOME people (corgan) actually had a purpose in music... now... what are his reaons... where is his passion?????

He was scared that THEFUTUREEMBRACE only sold 60,000 copies and ran back to a safety net... that is what is REALLY goin on.

MR. Corgan... WHY SO SERIOUS?!
