Frank "Tootsie Babe" Caruso, an alleged member of the mob's 26th Street/Chinatown crew, hasn't gotten much attention in the media since his son went to prison nearly a decade ago for viciously beating a black teenager, who had the nerve to be in the Carusos' neighborhood.
But the elder Caruso's name is coming up in the Family Secrets trial.
He's even got his own nickname.
For reasons unknown, Frank Calabrese Sr. refers to Frank Caruso as" the doctor," during the secretly recorded conversations that the feds made of Calabrese Sr. while he was in prison.
Calabrese Sr. wants to get a message to the man leading his crew, John "Johnny Apes" Monteleone.
So Calabrese Sr. gives the message to a mob gopher who is supposed to get it to Calabrese Sr.'s close friend, reputed mob killer Ronald Jarrett.
Jarrett is supposed to take it to Caruso.
And Caruso will take it to Monteleone, according to Calabrese Sr.
Caruso is part of the powerful Roti family, which has had deep connections to the Outfit, the city and politics for decades.
Caruso likes to keep a low profile, but thanks to his colleague, Calabrese Sr., he's back in the limelight.

If you were a long time resident and know so much, why would you NOW believe that they are connected? Never listen to hearsay!!!! You lived there and you know them personally? Hmmm!!!! Tayor believe it or not you will find people in Bridgeport who see these people all the time and may even talk with them on occasion but have no clue they are mobbed up!
I lived in Bridgeport for 30 years and saw some of these guys on occasion but would never think of them being connected until I started working for Connies.
But there are rumors of someone being mobbed up who may only be a assicate or just a friend of some mob figures.
True mob guys don't talk about any mob activities or would they want you to believe they are connected unless you step out of line or borrow money or maybe even run up a gambling debit with these people then they will come to see you! other then that most mob guys appear just like our everyday Bridgeport residents!
Ann just happens to be one of those residents who is not aware or would really care, she just seems like a hard worker who is just now figuring some things out!
