Frank Calabrese Jr.
Frank Calabrese Jr. will wrap up his direct testimony today and get grilled by defense attorneys.

Expect the longest cross from Joseph "The Shark" Lopez, the attorney for Frank Calabrese Sr.

Lopez will likely stress that Frank Calabrese Jr. once had a cocaine problem and that he stole more than $600,000 from his father.

Lopez will also try to portray Frank Jr.'s wife as a divisive force between the two men.

But U.S. District Judge James Zagel won't likely be giving Lopez a lot of leeway during his cross.

The judge asked Lopez on Wednesday how long his questioning would take.

An hour or two, Lopez responded.

The judge suggested he make it closer to one hour than two.

i have to laugh at all the 'prick your finger/burn the card' stuff. everything that i've ever heard and read about the Outfit was that 'the boys' made fun of all that as a lot of N.Y. mumbo-jumbo crap. i heard you kill people/make a lot of money for them, you might get a call to the office, they slap you on the back and say 'you're in'. Steve, don't know if you'd agree or disagree.

WARMBIR: I think you're going to see the mob initiation rite, as described at trial, confirmed by other testimony.

Namely, Nick Calabrese was made in the same ceremony as his brother Frank Calabrese Sr. so expect to hear a similar story from brother Nick.

I've heard reports too that the Outfit making ceremony was less formal than the one in New York, but it looks like there's still some procedures that are followed.

Back in 1988, Salvatore "Solly D" DeLaurentis, a member of the Cicero crew who just got out on parole last year after serving a total of 16 years in prison, was also made La Cosa Nostra-style.

At least this is what Rocky Infelise, the boss of the Cicero crew, told B.J. Jahoda, an associate and gambling boss in the Cicero crew who soon became a wired-up FBI informant and later the star witness at the Infelise Trial in 1992.

The day after DeLaurentis got made, Rocky Infelise met with Jahoda and told him that the night before DeLaurentis got "made" and that he was DeLaurentis's "sponsor."

Infelise also exclaimed to Jahoda: "I can't believe they still use fire and paper."

I guess Infelise figured a lot had changed in five years being he was reportedly made in 1983 with Jimmy Marcello, the Calabrese brothers, and others. :-)
