ST. PAUL, Minn. -- No great movement designed to change the world can bear to be laughed at or belittled. Mockery is a rust that corrodes all it touches.
--Milan Kundera
Sarah Palin may come from the backwoods of Alaska, but she has the heart of a street fighter.
So Democrats shouldn't get entangled in the Republicans' "experience" ploy.
Palin isn't on the Republican ticket because she has been the governor of Alaska for two years.
The people who cooked up this scheme don't care whether Palin will be a heartbeat away from the presidency if something happens to the 72-year-old McCain.
Palin's on the ticket because she's a woman and she isn't afraid to engage in the Republicans' mean-spirited personal attacks.
On Wednesday night, Palin showed the nation how a female fighter throws a punch:
"They loved their country in good times and bad, and they are always proud of America," Palin said an obvious dig at Michelle Obama, during her remarks about her small-town roots.
"I love those hockey moms. You know what they say the difference is between a hockey mom and a pit bull -- lipstick," Palin said.
And then she showed us what she means:
"In small towns, we don't heap praise on working people when they are listening and talk about how bitter they are and they cling to their religions and guns when those people aren't listening," she said.
"We prefer candidates who don't talk to us one way in Scranton and another way in San Francisco."
Those are the kinds of jabs the Obama campaign will have a difficult time dealing with simply because Palin is a female, and the campaign will not want to appear to be sexist.
On Wednesday night, Palin introduced her three daughters, including her 17-year-old pregnant daughter Bristol, who was seated with the young man who fathered her baby.
Yet earlier, when reporters reported her daughter's pregnancy and debated the issues surrounding that pregnancy, we became the problem.
"I've learned quickly, these past few days, that if you're not a member in good standing of the Washington elite, then some in the media consider a candidate unqualified for that reason alone," Palin said.
"But here's a little news flash for all those reporters and commentators: I'm not going to Washington to seek their good opinion -- I'm going to Washington to serve the people of this country."
Palin showed that she could be as sarcastic as the most experienced politician.
She skillfully used one-line zingers and attacked Obama without ever using his name.
"In politics, there are some candidates who use change to promote their careers, and then there are those who use their careers to promote change," she said.
Palin energized the Republican convention. No doubt about that.
She's a fighter, all right.
While McCain's big gamble that put Palin on the ticket as his vice presidential pick might be a scheme -- the battle is real.
Wow, a good column for once

The Obama campaign will have a difficult time dealing with comments like these simply because they are true
I was so excited to hear her speak... a woman able to speak as a vice president candidate is just an incredible thing.. Unfortunately she used that air time to be incredibly caddy and say nothing of substance. It is a shame.
The rights of women are not served by having a single ideology, in which all women are subscribed. Defining women’s rights in such a way denies the many voices of women, and their diversity of views. Ideology is the power of slavery and the enemy of independent free thinking.
Palin is labeled as anti woman because she does not support abortion. I think the right to choose, is the right to say that you can be feminist without supporting abortion. That you can be for responsibility, for birth control, that there are other options besides abortion.
On the issue of gay rights, there is civil marriage which is a legal contract binding two citizens together in a partnership. I can see no legal reason for anyone to restrict this right to enter into a partnership as long as one can enter the agreement with a sound mind as in any legal contract. As for the religious definition of marriage that should be left to religious groups to define.
The democratic ideals sought by the founders of our country embraced the idea, of freedom, by granting freedom to others with whom we have opposing views. Our collective freedom is guaranteed only by allowing the other to have freedom to oppose our views.
As a nation our greatest strength is the diversity of voices and opinions we have as citizens. In this election, I choose to embrace diversity by supporting local democrats, while supporting the Republicans in the Presidency. Why? I think the democrats, and the mass media at large, have subverted the voices of middle class, working families. Democratic leadership with help from the mass media has injected their opinions, and desires, for those of whom they represent. They have the opinion, that they know what is best. After all, we are a republic, not a true democracy. The problem as I see it is that we have the worst of both. We elect our leaders in a popularity contest, which we call democratic, while we are governed as a republic.
The democratic leadership, made a political calculation in which they felt that they could ignore the will of middle class America, and women in particular, because what choice did they have but come back and support the candidate they chose, due to issues such as abortion, and gay rights. The democrats have played the fear card that they have stated is reprehensible, complaining that the republicans have used fear in past elections to win.
The stakes cannot be higher. If the democrats prevail, it will signal to Democratic leaders that middle class Americans can be taken for granted. It means that your power to influence government is diminished. This result must be avoided at all costs. Defeat means an America, ever more divided, further separating from the middle and moving toward the extremes. If history is to be a teacher, then we should look to Rome. Rome's strength was her middle, and when it was lost, Rome was lost.
Voting for McCain/Palin is a matter of voting country first. It is stepping outside of us and doing what is best for the whole. A large group of people today have grown up in an innately selfish world. They have little experience in relegating themselves to the common good of all. If America is to once again regain her luster, we must once again place ourselves as servants to the idea of America.
I've known about her since early in February as I was researching
potential vice presidential candidates. I liked her then, and feel
better about her now.
I now have a dog in this presidential raceand she wears lipstick!
Educating the GOP: A Photo History of Community Organizers
by BonnieSchlitz
Thu Sep 04, 2008 at 10:13:06 AM PDT
After watching the malicious speeches last night mocking Senator Obama, and by proxy, cynically attacking all of us who support our local communities, I thought it would be prudent to educate the Republican Party on the historical role of community organizers. For a quick reminder, let's recap Giuliani's snark:
He worked as a community organizer. (Laughter) What?...Barack Obama has never led anything, nothing, nada.
And Palin's vacuous follow-up:
This world of threats and dangers, it's not just a community and it doesn't just need an organizer. (Laughter.)
That these bastions of the GOP would denigrate the importance of community organizers on the same night their party nominates its first female vice presidential candidate shows an utter disrespect for the people of this country and a laughable ignorance of the power we wield. This is what community organizers do...
BonnieSchlitz's diary :: ::
They change the world. Block by block, city by city, state by state, nation by nation...
So, GOP, meet community organizer Susan B. Anthony. She helped guarantee women's suffrage in the United States by giving public speeches and uniting with fellow advocates of change.
Meet community organizer Martin Luther King Jr. He helped end racial segregation and discrimination by inspiring a nation to come together and realize their dreams.
He said, "Power at its best is love implementing the demands of justice. Justice at its best is love correcting everything that stands against love."
Meet community organizer Cesar Chavez. He helped farm workers secure labor rights and fair wages. Sen. Robert F. Kennedy called him "one of the heroic figures of our time."
Meet community organizer Dorothy Day. She helped found the Catholic Worker movement to help the poor and homeless, and promote social justice.
Meet community organizer Jane Jacobs. She helped rebuild and revitalize city neighborhoods and made people consider the wide-ranging benefits of supporting our urban cultures.
Meet community organizer Mohandas Gandhi. He peacefully led the people of India in efforts to acquire labor fairness, women's rights, and ethnic tolerance, and he helped secure the freedom of a nation.
Then there's this guy. Meet community organizer Jesus of Nazareth. He advocated for the poor, for the sick, for the socially excluded...and continues to help provide people solace during their "quiet storms." His community helped found the religion known as Christianity. He said "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."
When you disparage community organizers, Republicans, you evince a complete ignorance of the fact that organizers do more with their words than just speak them. They remind people of their shared humanity, of their responsibilities, and of their power as a unified force to face injustice, and oppression, and inspire them to be the change they've been waiting for.
Meet new community organizer, Senator Hillary Clinton. She cracked a glass ceiling, and inspired 18 million Americans to recognize the worth of their lives.
This is the story of America. Of women and men who defy the odds and never give up. How do we give this country back to them? By following the example of a brave New Yorker, a woman who risked her life to shepherd slaves along the Underground Railroad. And on that path to freedom, Harriet Tubman had one piece of advice.
If you hear the dogs, keep going.
If you see the torches in the woods, keep going.
If they're shouting after you, keep going.
Don't ever stop. Keep going.
If you want a taste of freedom, keep going.
Even in the darkest of moments, ordinary Americans have found the faith to keep going. I've seen it in you. I've seen it in our teachers and firefighters, nurses and police officers, small business owners and union workers, the men and women of our military -- you always keep going.
And meet community organizer Senator Barack Obama. He worked with congregations and registered voters on the South side of Chicago to help them improve their neighborhoods and hold politicians accountable for their actions. Along with Senator Joe Biden, he currently leads the largest movement for change in the history of American politics.
If you're walking down the right path and you're willing to keep walking, eventually you'll make progress.
So you see, Republicans, it's never really about the organizer, it's about the community...
Remember that on November 4th. Remember the power of the people.
that palin is a total nut. alaskans can't be trusted.
"In small towns, we don't heap praise on working people when they are listening and talk about how bitter they are and they cling to their religions and guns when those people aren't listening," she said.
"We prefer candidates who don't talk to us one way in Scranton and another way in San Francisco."
Those comments won't be difficult to handle because Palin is a woman; they'll be difficult to handle because they're true. The fact that you even see them as jabs shows how true even you know they are. It's about time this country had a strong, smart woman running for high elected office.
I vowed to never again vote Republican, however, this campaign has changed my mind.
Sarah Palin is a strong capable candidate and she and McCain have my vote.
I hope for this counties sake that her gender and motherhood are not trampled on during the next couple of months. There are plenty of us who will rally together to see that another woman is not pushed out of the Whitehouse.
She's a circus act. I think when this is all over she's going to seriously hurt McCains campaign. That speech only rallied the hardcore republicans any civil american won't go for that foolishness. That was a horrible display of hate and low flying insults.
Keep it up, Sarah! He deserves every bit of it.
Ridiculous. Clearly you did not listen to a word she said, only what you wanted to hear. As a woman and a republican, I am excited and proud that we are all eager to hear what a woman has to say. She has a right to defend her party just as Barack and Biden have the right to defend theirs. If the truth hurts, re-evaluate your position because every single word she spoke was TRUE!
Instead of jumping on the Barack bandwagon, perhaps you should close your mouth and open your ears. You should be evaluating each candidate with an UNBIASED mind. You might not like the truth but as a reporter, you have an obligation to convey the news with an UNBIASED tone. Clearly, you skipped the 'ethics in journalism' class.
I urge everyone to vote for the candidate who represents the direction you want the country to go. Both candidates promise change, so hiding behind the anti-Bush position really shouldn't be an option. McCain has proven over and over again to be a strong leader. The type of man that will fight to preserve our freedom, no matter how unpopular it makes him look. Hmm, makes you wonder what type of person would support Obama, a man who has no faith in our military to deliver the victory we set out to achieve.
Sure, I'd give Obama my vote for "Most Popular" or "Most likely to become a celebrity" but definetly not my vote for ruler of the free world.
waaaaaaaaaah! You'd better put some cardboard in your pants to lessen the blow 'cause Sarah's gonna be kickin your and the other immoral wackos all the way to a Nov 4th victory. hahahahahah
I could care less about anything she said in her speech. She lost me when she draped her Down Syndrome child over the pregnant belly of her 17 year old Daughter in an attempt to hide it from the media in Dayton,Ohio. For someone who is so Prolife I thought using a baby as a shield to hide a "sin" in their families world was hypocritical. I'm not worried about Palin one bit.
Obama got owned, plain and simple. The democrats have been engaging in smear tactics even worse than the republicans yet you dont bitch and moan about them do you?
Liberal hypocrisy is in full swing I see.
You are a poor excuse for a journalist.
"Those are the kinds of jabs the Obama campaign will have a difficult time dealing with simply because THEY ARE TRUE."
fixed your typo.
you're welcome.
When Palin was running for governor in Alaska she pledged not to take part in partisan politics or to campaign in ways that polarized the public. Too bad she has lost her integrity and has evidently decided to be the pitbull after all. It is disapponting to say the least.
Hey Governor:
I loved every word of your speech. Please come to my church when you visit Atlanta and I'll ahve 1500+ people in the pews to hear you share your faith in God. Heck, I'll even put lipstick on the pit bull for you.

Palin knows how to throw a blow and the playing field should be level. She has proved that she can dish it out and can play with with the boys. Biden should not have to walk a fine line, she is tough and taunting her opponents to bring it on!!! Nothing should be off limits other than the children. If woman want to play in the real world we must stop calling foul. She's no victim. She right, she's a soccer mom and The only difference between her and a bull dog is lipstick! The debate is on, Palin in one corner and Biden in the other!
May the American people win!!!
Her speech was snarky, divisive, immature, and disrespectful. I expected a lot more -- maybe a real discussion of the issues. Her speech only solidified that she knows nothing about the issues -- people use ridicule and mockery to disguise their ignorance.
It was a fantastic speech. :)
A Margaret Thatcher type of a speech - mean spirited no, sarcastic yes... and on poitn.
"Those are the kinds of jabs the Obama campaign will have a difficult time dealing with simply because Palin is a female, and the campaign will not want to appear to be sexist."
No, the Obama campaign will have a difficult time dealing with jabs like that because they are honest, truthful, real... and firmly based in Obama's own actions. If you class as "personal attacks" actually citing what Obama has really said and done (his real record instead of his hype), then your definition of personal attacks would have to include evewry single solitary word Obama himself has said (and that his surrogates have said) deriding Joh nMcCain.
But, of course, applying the same standards--even phony "standards" like those you seem to espouse--evenhandedly isn't in your playbook, it seems.
"She skillfully used one-line zingers and attacked Obama without ever using his name."
Well, if the shoe fits... and, not surprisingly, it seems to, for example, "listening to him speak, it's easy to forget that this is a man who has authored two memoirs but not a single major law or reform - not even in the state senate." *zing!* Nailed the empty suit syndrome Obama suffers from. Real Obama accomplishments while in office: Not quite a zero with the rim kicked off, but darned close. In fact, it seems his only "real" accomplishment in public office has been getting elected, which may be why he thinks running a campaign qualifies as "executive experience". In his reality-based fantasy world, I'm sure it does.
What a strong voiced woman she was great to listen to she didn't pull any punches and got to the point without playing all the he said she said and you know who she was talking about without using any names.
From one journalist to another, Mary, stick with reporting and let others educate themselves on the facts.
Your friend,
Mr. Ethical.
Palin is terrific! A real-world human being put on the presidential ticket with a War Hero and a man of great record. I am so excited about this ticket! This ticket has the honest experience, not the psuedo experience that the Obama ticket touts!
Obama campaign will have hard time dealing with Palin's jabs not because of the fear to appear sexists. The vicious attacks on Palin and her family prior to RNC proved that there is no "too low" Obama people would not go.
They will have hard time because those jabs are 100% true. Voting "present" community organizer with bigger than Earth ego is unfit to be the President
Mockery? Sometimes the truth just hurts. The quotes sited from Pain's speech are not inaccurate. Liberals like to live in a state of denial, much like Ms. Mitchell. Attacks? Sexist? How many times has Obama already played the "race card" and the campaign is just now starting. He is not qualified for the Presidency - not now, not ever.
Love her! She is awesome!
Sarah Palin is for real. She is a champion and you know it that is why you are attacking her like you have never attacked anyone before. If you chose to look behind every rock in Boreock's landscape you might find some problems, just as you have when you scoured Palin's. It is disgusting that you think you can manipulate the election. Reporters should report the news not their opinions. You have jumped into the gutter with your muck-racking tricks on this election --worse than on any previous election. I do not mind if the candidate is democrat or republican as long as they love America and do the best they can for the country. Jimmy Carter loved America. Ronald Reagan did too. They had different agendas and they carried their agenda out with differing degrees of success. But they both are wonderful and should be held in great esteem because they loved this country and did what they thought they should to build America. Please report the news, not your opinion.
The person that wrote this article seemed quite liberally biased. I'm basically a personal tech slave to some very large liberal organizations for a living. I could tell you the inside scoop on what these nut job liberals are trying to do to America and the traditional family structure but Sarah already did that for me.
Thanks Sarah. I bleed red, white and blue just like you---not black and silver. You've got my vote.
As a woman I was offended by Palin's sarcasm and rude, obnoxious comments last night. Now today I hear that the part of her speech regarding the press was taken from a 1964 political speech (including holding her fist towards the media which was done in 1964). What an idiot!!! Then she gave the impression that she was the reason that Alaska has a surplus budget...hasn't Alaska had a surplus budget for a very long time???...long before she was around? I do not like this woman and will not vote for McCain because of her. Looking forward to her debating with Biden when her script isn't written. Should be very interesting and I won't miss it.
McCain knows he is going to lose. Why not set things up for another run in 2012? Have Palin be as dirty as she can be in order to discredit Obama as much as possible, lose the election and then blame it on Palin. McCain will not have lost the election and he will be able to stand again in 2012. Palin will be long gone by then. If McCain can't win, and we all know he can't, then the Republicans must have a strategy in defeat and Palin is playing a big part in it. Their party can't be any worse off than it is now so they might was well go out kicking below the belt.

>>Sarah Palin mocks Obama
Mary, isn't it a great country where you can counter the Republican's and Palin's mean spirted personal attacks and sarcasm with your own?
What a putz!
You have to be kidding right? The Democrats, paragon of taking the high road with the slime they are throwing at Palin. The trash they have thrown at President Bush, The garbage they have heaped upon our troops (supposed attrocities). You are laughable. The media's love affair with Obama is beyond pathetic. The treatment of him borders on worship. So now someone challenges the Messiah - ooh the audacity - how dare she challenge a god!
This is the woman of today. . sarah Palin, unfortunately manuevering democrats did not see that in Hillary Clinton. unlike Mr. McCain saw the promising leadership in a woman, here he got Palin as his running mate.
Many democrats who have hidden agenda pushed Obama's nomination thinking that the election is on the party's bag.
McCain selection of Palin is a shrewed political strategy though risky, but thats hows life is and Mr. McCain move shows great will power and magnificent direction what he would like to accomplish.
McCain-Palin tandem is the partnership that would be bring change in American government
Forgive me if this 'independent' democrat is impressed by this tough little lady from Alaska.
She went after CORRUPT people in her OWN party. Took them on and is 'weeding them out. Barack lives in the MOST corrupt county in America, Cook. I've yet to see or hear that he ever took on the corruption.
She, after getting elected, got rid of the private jet the previous governors used. Actually put it and sold it on eBay. Saving the taxpayers lots of money. Also, got rid of the chauffer, chef, and servants. My governor (Blagojevich) flys too and home everyday from Chicago and Springfield. And we taxpayers are paying for it.
Barack talks about going after oil companies. SHE DID ! Taxed them 3 times the previous governors while the citizens had their taxes drop. Oh yeah, the people of Alaska next week are getting ANOTHER rebate from the governor. To the tune of $1200. You'll never see that in Illinois.
Finally, her kids go to PUBLIC school as I hear it. Unlike our politicians children. Evidently, the schools up there are pretty good. As this Meeks boycott pointed-out, the state of Illinois is 49th (thats FORTY-NINTH) out of 50 states in school-funding. This despite we're a populated state, has had a lottery thats suppose to go to education, and a democratic controlled state house and senate, a democratic governor, and all democrats in Cook County. So as Cuba Gooding, Jr. said in his Oscar-winning movie, "Where's the money !".....and people, you'll never hear the Mary Mitchells, Neil Steinbergs, and Mark Browns discuss this.
Again Mary Micheell shows her racist thinking. Because Sarah Palin criticized Barack Obama, Mary feels she must attack her. Mary Mitchell would like to be known as fair reporter but she is anything but that. Anytime any criticism is directed toward a black political figure, that person is judged a racist in Mitchell's eyes.
Come on Mary be fair.

What? No mention on her ridiculous slur against community organizers? Why isn't anyone in the mainstream media talking about that?
I listened to Gov. Sarah Palin’s acceptance speech last night. I believe that she is straight forward and honest; she tells it like it is. Some of the comments that she made, i.e. being a mayor, were in response to the comments that the DNC has made about her. I believe that she has a right to set things straight. She is correct in stating that being a mayor has responsibilities that the community organizer does not have – a mayor has to answer to the people who have elected her/him, a community organizer does not. I am appalled at the comment about her needing to raise five kids, I believe she is part of a couple and her husband has to play as big a role in the raising of their children as she does. Why aren’t Obama and Biden held accountable for the raising of their children? A comment was made about how she did not fund housing for pregnant teens and now she has a daughter who is pregnant. I do not believe that the government, local, state or federal, should be held responsible for pregnant teens; that is between the teens and their respective parents. A comment was also made on TV stating that her daughter should not rush into marriage with her boyfriend, just as Jamie Lynn Spears did not rush into marriage. That is comparing apples and oranges. If teens are having sex, then they should show responsibility by getting married to provide a home for the child that they have created. I believe that Gov. Palin is a great asset to the McCain ticket. I was very disappointed with the media comments that someone had written her speech for her, both Obama and Biden have speech writers so why is the media bringing it to the public’s attention that she did not write her own speech. Gov. Palin will be a breath of fresh air in DC when McCain and she take office in January!
You've said:
'Palin showed that she could be as sarcastic as the most experienced politician.'
Her comments, including the ones you quoted, were not sarcasm. Sarcasm is stating the opposite to what you mean to say, in a derisive manner.
Palin's comments were exactly what she meant to say, ie.
"We prefer candidates who don't talk to us one way in Scranton and another way in San Francisco."
This is not sarcasm- quite the opposite- it's straight talk.
Palin's comments were not sarcasm- sarcasm is saying the opposite to what you mean. Her comments were exactly what she meant.
ie
"We prefer candidates who don't talk to us one way in Scranton and another way in San Francisco."
This is mocking .... but it is straight talk; quite the opposite to sarcasm.
Motherhood, apple pie, baseball, now hockey and Sarah Palin. Look out Democrats. Sarah has the toughness of a school principal and the community standing of an established mother and soon to be Grandmother.
In her speach I almost thought she was going to say ....attention, attention.. Barak Obama and Joe Biden, please report to the principal's office.
It's all about position. I almost expect Obama and Biden to say in unison 'yes Mrs. Palin, we will be good boys'. They would be well advised to leave Palin alone and direct their attention to building the electric car. That would 'electrify' America and stick to a positive agenda.
The next thing Palin will say to Obama? "Go to the blackboard and write 500 times 'I will not be President.'
I give total honor and respect to mrs palin for her honored speech. The bible says in 1Timothy chapter 5 that She that liveth in pleasure is dead while she liveth and if any cannot rule their own house well how can they take care of the church of God. I pray for mrs palin to consider what God wants to do in her own household in order to be a leader for this nation we must set our own houses in order and be clean before we can lead others and I pray for a spiritual awakening to take place within her family.
Palin's qualifications are arrogance and sarcasm, which unfortunately are the same qualifications President Bush offered when he was put in office. The 'base' loved him for it and are eating it up from Palin. Palin-McCain: More of the same.
"Those are the kinds of jabs the Obama campaign will have a difficult time dealing with simply because Palin is a female, and the campaign will not want to appear to be sexist."

Palin speaks well but she said nothing htat make me or anybody with good sense think about voting for them. YOU CAN NOT KEEP SCARING PEOPLE INTO VOTING REPUBLICAN... KEEP THE COUNTRY SAFE FROM WHO??? ONE TIME SINCE PEARL HARBOR OUR BORDERS WERE BREACHED AND REPUBLICANS WERE IN OFFICE. DO NOT BE AFRAID PEOPLE, WE ARE NOT IN DANGER. They just have no real platform, and no way of earning your vote so they say stupid s##t like "Country First," when Palin was one of the people wanted Alaska to leave the union. She is nice, and her daughter is cute but get real, women should be pissed. Hillary Clinton is a woman and a politician, Palin is a hockey mom?
WHY DID SHE ATTEND 5 COLLEGES IN 6 YEARS?
SHE HAS ALOT OF SKELETONS IN HER CLOSET!
SHE MAY NOT MAKE IT TO THE DEBATES!
GET A NANNY FOR YOUR BABY, BEFORE I CALL DCFS!
The candidacy of Marxist Barrack Obama is simply
to fulfill a personal goal and historical
objective that has nothing to do with his ability
to be qualified for a job that is clearly way
over his head. As President of the United States
he cannot vote "Present". The American people do
not want to vote for someone who is just trying
to fulfill some personal goal, or who views
himself as some Messiah. If Americans think they
have it rough now, just wait until the TALKER"
Obama gets in office.
This may be a little off topic, but for the past few months, I've listened to all these right-wing idiots classify Obama as a "the anointed one", "the Messiah", "Moses", etc. They say "All he can do is give great speeches", or "He's a great speaker", and on and on. Let me ask this question people: When did it become a bad thing to be compared to Moses?? Or the Messiah?? Also, don't they realize that speeches and words have changed the course of history, whether good or bad?? It's one thing to stand there and say, "I'll use my military power on any nation that doesn't agree with us." But I feel you need to "COMMUNICATE" first with those that don't see things your way. Miltary action should be a last and final resort. As for Palin, I laughed when I heard here speech. She clearly didn't write it herself. It's all planned out. She'll be the attack dog, knowing the Dem's can't attack here fully because of here gender, while McCain will be the reasonable one of the two. Good cop, bad cop maneuver if you ask me. If anyone can answer any of these questions, I'd like to here them!!
Is this the best she can come up with...all she does is try to slam Barack...John Mccain better look out because this lady is going to change the game on him if she gets elected....She lost me when she threw her daughter to the wolves and put her ambitions before her family. Now everyone wants her daughter's pregnancy to be off limits....If it were one of Obama daughters the Republicans would have a commercial out so fast...questioning the Democratic family morals and values....they truly have double standards....
Yes the ultra conservative "moral" party base love that speech. They are the examples of morality and faith. Erase from your minds the endless corruption charges that surfaced in the past 16 months from this moral party of corruption which now "surprisingly" includes the vp "barracuda"( a title she seems proud of) from Wasilla. This election is so much more than whats being touted on the open circuit. From viewing the audience at the convention there didn't seem to be much inclusion for diversity or the so called reaching across the "lines". And, While John Mccain says he will reach out to "willing patriots" those that not willing will be labeled unpatriotic and heretics. Single women your days are numbered as well as your right to choose by a man who disrepects women (lest you forgot) and crudely called his wife a part of the female anatomy. Prepare for a communistic theocracy, civil liberties are just about extinct. So much for the land of the free.
sarah you remind be of the awful bullies i had to
endure in junior high school. go home an take care of your family. your infant needs you! we most certainly do not!
it amazes me that democrats are whining that Sarah Palin is a pit bull of the campaign... becausse that is exacty what I thought about listening to BIDEN'S speech. My reaction to that was, "Oh I SEE! Obama will talk about the roses and lollipops of change...and Biden will be the attack dog."
I didn't hear anything she mentioned that wasn't true. Too tough for you? Considering how the liberal media and the democrats SMASH republicans, Christians, etc. If you can't take it..don't dish it out!
You folks AMAZE me!
Step aside... this pair are taking off.
Repetition is the hobgoblin of a undeveloped mind. Needless to say, Mary again runs home to play the race card. In simply pointing Sen. Obama's lack of executive experience on any level, Governor Palin somehow "mocked" Mr. Obama's race, or more properly, races. How silly and the logical legerdemain it takes to reach such a conclusion is more fitting in a tale from Chaucery or Rube Goldberg diagram. Nice try Mary, but I am afraid your once biting insight and rapier wit are fading in the rear view mirror. Sad.
i think palins speach was exactly what we need to see in a leader. straight to the point and let the chips fall where they may. she is a good leader and is not afraid of the media or the opposition. as for her house being in order as one of the previous posters stated.... she is doing a great thing by accepting her grand child and supporting her daughter. (who by the way is marrying the father of the baby) how many good mothers and christian women across this nation have faced that challange. are you saying they did something wrong?? each person has to take responsibility for thier own actions. not blame thier mother or society as so many people are ready to do. she is a perfict pick for vp and possibly pres some day. McCain is a genious for giving her the opportunity and I am greatful that she accepted.
Excuse me? Remind me again, who is the republican candidate for President? Oh yeah, it's John McCain. The way people are reacting to Palin you would think she's the one who will be running the country. I understand the need for the republican party to put forward someone like her, a "pitbull' if you will, but how well is that going to play on the world stage? I don't believe the rest of the free world is going to take her seriously. This is not a slam against her being a female, it's against her being a belittling, sarcastic candidate for the second highest office in our nation. Maybe this is how a hockey mom operates. Please let's not be distracted by the fact that she has a special needs child. So do many other Americans. I raised a son to adulthood who has cerebal palsy. I wasn't 44 years old, I was nineteen with a two year old daughter. And I was married to my children's father. The American people don't need someone patting themselves on the back saying how well they weathered their own personal crisis, but how they are going to help this country solve the many crisis that plague American families, such as high energy bills, gun and crime ridden neighborhoods, job insecurity, worries about health care and a failing educational system. Give us less sarcasm and more solutions. That would be a real change.
You are without a doubt the poorest excuse of a balanced reporter we have ever encountered. You madam, have consistently taken a position that reflects an all encompassing anti white racist attitude. We can understand your support of Obamma, since his views, like yours, reflect those of the other jive talking, self serving so called black leaders annointed by your media.. Jackson, Sharpton and now Meeks all blaming every
white man for inner city problems while enriching their own pockets.
As an personal example of the corruption you conveniently overlook in your daily diatribe we recall the time, some years ago, when we first encountered Jesse and PUSH.
Jackson had just arrived in Chicago to start PUSH although, at the time it was , I believe it was called the SCLC. He approached us at 7800 South Halsted Street, where we were opening a new supermarket. The neighborhood was in a state of change from White Irish Catholic to black.
Jesse approached us in a group and asked us whether we had a black man contracted for removing our waste material. We replied in the affirmative,we had indeed hired a black owned source. He produced a list and then asked us whether that black man's company was on his list. We replied no and Jesse said that our black man wasn't his black man and we were forced to change to avoid trouble. That madam, was extortion then and that is extortion now.
From that time on we knew what those leaders were all about. He and others of that cabalof evil men , including now , your beloved Obamma, are not unlike the other whites you constantly berate. However not all whites are racists nor inherently as bad as you would make your readers believe. Dishonest men are dishonest in spite of their color.
This event with Jesse that day turned us forever from supporting black advancement to ignoring them and their plights.
We are cancelling our subscription, as we write, and although we will miss Telander we will not you. For after being exposed daily to your biased racist rantings, we wonder why we ever even in this small way, supported financially a person of your ilk that views us with contempt.
The reason why Obama and Biden will have a tough time responding to Sarah Palin is because her references to what Obama said are accurate. They are all recorded on tape. I hope Joe Biden is being advised to wear a cup when he debates Sarah Biden. The reason being that he might not need one ever again after their debate has been completed if he does not. Sarah Palin is the greatest thing that has come out of this prolonged selection process!
After listining to her speech i admit that she speaks very well ,but she really doesn't have what it takes to beat Obama. If she was to dabate him right now she would get blown out. She never really connected with issues or anything like that. Mary Mitchell stop worrying about nothing.

Sometimes you have to fight back to be a man, or in this case, THE NEXT VICE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES!
Bravo, Governor Palin. And to your shameless attackers, who's got the last laugh now?
Shame on you guys and gals for belittling her accomplishments from her PTA days, to her being mayor for so many years, to having been duly elected Governor OF ALASKA, and now, as McCain's VP running mate.
She does not just talk the talk. She walks the walk. And she wears lipstick and high heels, too. If that ain't enough to get you jealous bitches foaming at the mouth and seething with rage, hah, just wait until she takes Washington by storm!
Yeah, it must suck to be you biased reporters, press people out there. And you call yourselves journalists. Shame on you for diminishing her record. She is more worthy than OBAMA, and she's not even running for President. That must make you cringe, doesn't it? Well, Newsflash! Deal with it!
McCain-Palin '08! my kind of change!
A confession here. I haven't read the Sun Times since Jay Mariotti lost his marbles. The day he left I ordered home delivery and what a surprise.
I had assumed all these years that the Trib was the "Republican" paper in town the Times was 'that liberal rag', but to my surprise there has actually been balanced coverage, even glowing praise of the GOP Convention and it's top 2 candidates.
Then along came Mary Mitchell's column and she just couldn't stop herself from pulling the 'Race Card'. Uh,"Re-inforcing the black/white divide, lack of diversity in the RNC crowd, pitting small town people against the rest of us, does that mean we are un-patriotic?".
Mary, in case you missed it, a liberal media controlled the cameras at the RNC (including the protester shots), Mr. Obama first described small towners as people 'clinging to religion and guns' and you probably forgot that the 'always proud of America' comment referred to Ms Obama's inability to find anything to be proud of in her country until her husband was selected by his/her party to run for president.
I'm not the first to say this of course, but after initially being concerned over McCain's VP choice, once I heard her speak (and seeing the panic in liberals reaction and attempted hatchet job) I am 100% sure of his choice and again proud to be a Republican.
The only "insider" left in the campaign is Biden (the Democratic answer to Dick Cheney). How Mr. Obama was going to make all these changes to the DC establishment with a VP that has 35 years at the public trough and a vested interest in maintaining the status quo escapes me. As of yesterday Obama/Biden are now running like failed incumbents.
Mary, if you want to help Obama, be ready with your column to answer the qestions which will surely come about his association with those 'honest' fellows in Cook County government and in Springfield. Even if there's no direct association, I haven't heard a peep from the man who's going to change all this bad government. If he's going to live with it in his home state why would he be expected to "change" Washington? I can't wait to see the scrambling when the national lights get turned on to Illinois politics and government.
Make some room up there former Governor Ryan!!!!
Go McCain/Palin
Mary Mitchell, Mary Mitchell, Mary Mitchell, shame on you! Facts Mary, facts are what a true reporter should base their stories on.
Fact #1, Mr. Obamas "claim to fame" of being a community organizer was something he did in the 1970s. That is 3 decades ago. Sara Palin has current experience. He has not produced one scintilla of evidence of ANYTHING PRODUCTIVE that he did when he claims to have been so productive as a community organizer or senator, whether state or federal.
Fact #2. He claims to be the candidate of change yet his HAND PICKED RUNNING MATE is known in Washington D.C. as MR.INSIDE!
Fact #3. He talks about all the things he plans to do yet, he as done ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to leviate the problems in the state of Illinois with the budget mess nor has he once spoken up or presented any plan to stop the bloodshed on the streets of Chicago in the Black Community. How will he protect America from terrorism when he does nothing to protect black citizens from the urban terrorists in his hometown.
Fact #4. Sara Palin's credetials and executive experience is current, not claimed from last century. Barak Obama is running for the Executive Office yet he has no proven experience like Sara does.
Fact #5.To not to know when life begins because it is "above my paygrade" is a true example of sarcasim.
I dare you to respond to my statements or will you once again hide behind the inuendoes and misstatements that you and the Democratic Ticket provide.
Hope to here from you soon :)

The Republican Party is using brain washing technique to avoid accepting reasonability of the sitting republican president “George Bush. The republican have no idea on how to bring jobs back, pay for college, and how to help family keep their homes while paying higher gas prices, home heating fuel cost
McCain, and Sarah Palin is not in touch with the real world
McCain and Palin doe not get it .
Sarah is not the only mother in this country that work and care for their children. There are millions of working moms that are struggling to support their own family, not everyone can afford to support their daughter baby daddy
Get real

She was attacked and attacked and Mitchell wanted her to be nice and speak like a good little housewife. Wrong again, Mitchell.
Her speech was every bit as defensive as it was offensive. Obama mocked her for being the mayor of her small town. What other town would she be mayor of?
Libs are kicking and screaming because Republicans found a true conservative.
Its funny, Obambi had a clear line to the basket for a slam dunk to win the game if he chose Hillary..But he dropped the ball and McCain picked it up like MJ on a 3 game losing streak and slammed it home.
What does this say about Obamas judgment? It tells me he is arrogant; so arrogant he thought he already won the election. His disciples think he already won. He is replying on the youth vote, sorry but youth are notorious for registering and not voting. They probably think hes already president.
I cannot believe you thought that speech was racist. You talk about what you know and she knows small towns. If she would have tried to talk about people in big cities she would have been laughed at. Step out of your "black" box for once and be a woman for a moment. I was disappointed in the lack of a woman in this race but was so excited for African Americans at least. But when she was chosen, I couldn't have been happier. I don't agree with everything she stands for but that is not the point. One of us made it. Now I can tell my daughter she can do anything. I still cannot believe that you 'knit-picked' at her small town experiences. You look like the racist stirring the pot because if you ever got out of your ivory tower and went to a smal town you would know that there are plenty of African Americans that have the same patriotism she speaks of. I came from a small town and know what she is talking about. Either way in this election I feel I win. You seem relentless in writing columns that fuel the black white divide.and that is not the answer. A real story would be about the nepotism that fuels the democratic system in Chicago.
Proceed with all little more restraint, (look it up in the dictionary-it's what you FORGOT to teach your daughter about) Governor Palin. Remember this one: Live by the sword, die by the sword...oh, that's children included, right?
And Ms.Lilywhite Palin, who 90%of the country realistically cannot relate to, we double dare ya to come to Newark...like you or McCain ever would!
Sarah will meet Joe real soon.
This candidate disappears from public view for several days to rehearse a speech she didn't write, and then reads it aloud with pure arrogance and small-mindedness dripping from her face. And then a lot of people applaud wildly, as if she had accomplished something, as if she were a guide to righteous thinking. This is a joke -- and shows how willingly many of you would follow someone you didn't even know existed four weeks ago. Is reading somebody else's words really so electrifying a deed that you don't care to know more about the person you blindly follow now?
Let's see how she handles being asked relevant questions about her world knowledge, without a script. If she's scared to talk to journalists (hiding behind the old "liberal-bias" excuse), how prepared would she would be to respond to other world leaders? I think you, her newfound supporters, are exactly the voters she is counting on -- the happily, enthusiastically uninformed.
Regarding your column of Sept. 5th. 2008, Sarah Palin is creating a black and white divide? Unbelievable!!!! For 5 days she was being ridiculed for coming from a small town from nowhere, what could she possibly know and yet she cannot come out and defend herself and her town. Again, unbeleivable!!! There are more small towns, including African American towns, with African American MAYORS, than big cities in this country. And wow, if in your words there are a lot of wonderful community organizers out there, and I agree, then all those small town mayors are just as important and viable. In creating your black and white divide, you just alienated all those small African Americans, with there African American Mayors, outside the black box!!!
I don't get why the truth is bad? That is what Obama did and that is what he said. He never would have apologized if some news reporter hadn't bust him. Face it folks, he is a closest racist and he chose an open put your foot in your mouth sexist. You can complain all you want, but it it the truth and a fact. Just like Wright. It is a fact. So now you Dems go back and put your head in the sand like good little ostriches.
Palin is perhaps only 12-14 years from being a great grandmother.
It might be nice to see a 5 generation picture in the VP House.
Up until last eve...I was prepared to vote Obama...then I started researching him and have to consider associates:
Palin's associates...hockey Mom's, snow machine riders, hard-working fishermen...etc...
Obama's associates (and some are business PARTNERS)...Louis Farrakhan, "reverend" Jeremiah Wright, Raila Odinga, Tony Rezko, etc...
Don't recognize all those names? LOOK them up...horrifying, shocking, and repulsive...
McCain and Pailin all the way!
To quote Michelle Malkin:
"Nobody is mocking community organizers in church basements and community centers across the country working to improve their neighbors' lives."
"What deserves ridicule is the notion that Barack Obama’s brief stint as a South Side rabble-rouser for tax-subsidized, partisan non-profits qualifies as executive experience you can believe in."
"What deserves derision is 'community organizing' that relies of a community of homeless people and ex-cons to organize for the purpose of registering dead people and shaking down corporations and using the race card as a bludgeon."

Hey Mary, here's a suggestion. Why don't you quit your version of so-called "journalism" and become a Community Organizer! We would all be better served.
With all the adulation for Sarah Palin, I am wondering what the reactions would have been if a colored Woman was nominated for a VP with the same personal and family issues as hers ...Hmmmm.
Oh yeah she is a reformer and will shake Washington - she will fire all of you in the establishment - HA HA HA!
Isn't OBAMA THE NOMINEE due to "community organizing'?,duh. And Ms Sarah, lucky for you you did not have to work hard as Joe Biden because the GODS (Bush/Cheney/Rove) handpicked you -poor MCcain cannot do anything- I thought he was a maverick and I was thinking of voting for him -not anymore!
Sarah chica, you still have many rice to eat, er salmon.
I was appalled when this woman hit the stage and in a very condescending manner and school marm-like tone, this factual "nobody" had the audacity to belittle, berate and spew vicious, nasty remarks at Obama. We should all realize what is really at stake; now, more than ever before, we need to make sure we vote AND that we each commit to personally being responsible for five+ new voters making it to the voting booths. I have taken the opportunity to do my own research on this woman and nothing, absolutely nothing, pans out.
However, the well-written speech by Bush's speechwriter, whom incidentally, McCain pretends to not be aligned with, was delivered well.
Remember, being a community organizer empowers our communities to grow and leaders to excel.
Let's not get it twisted. I'm sure being born into wealth and prosperity makes one oblivious to the concerns of the lower and middle class and inner cities.
I came across this blog and it is lengthy, but a must read.
Our lives and the lives of our children are at stake.
Obama-Biden is the Change we need.
Please forward to your email list so that everyone knows that this woman, who claims the only thing between her and a bulldog is "lipstick" -- let's be clear, the only thing between her and being the Vice President of the United States of America -- is "lip service". You can make a mouth say anything... but if it lacks substance, it's just lip exercise!

Here is a native Wasilla resident who is not afraid to speak out about Sarah Palin.Sean-492003ABOUT SARAH PALIN
I am a resident of Wasilla, Alaska. I have known Sarah since 1992. Everyone here knows Sarah, so it is nothing special to say we are on a first-name basis. Our children have attended the same schools. Her father was my child's favorite substitute teacher. I also am on a first name basis with her parents and mother-in-law. I attended more City Council meetings during her administration than about 99% of the residents of the city.
She is enormously popular; in every way she's like the most popular girl in middle school. Even men who think she is a poor choice and won't vote for her can't quit smiling when talking about her because she is a "babe".
It is astonishing and almost scary how well she can keep a secret. She kept her most recent pregnancy a secret from her children and parents for seven months.
She is "pro-life". She recently gave birth to a Down's syndrome baby. There is no cover-up involved, here; Trig is her baby.
She is energetic and hardworking. She regularly worked out at the gym.
She is savvy. She doesn't take positions; she just "puts things out there" and if they prove to be popular, then she takes credit.
Her husband works a union job on the North Slope for BP and is a champion snowmobile racer. Todd Palin's kind of job is highly sought-after because of the schedule and high pay. He arranges his work schedule so he can fish for salmon in Bristol Bay for a month or so in summer, but by no stretch of the imagination is fishing their major source of income. Nor has her life-style ever been anything like that of native Alaskans.
Sarah and her whole family are avid hunters.
She's smart.
Her experience is as mayor of a city with a population of about 5,000 (at the time), and less than 2 years as governor of a state with about 670,000 residents.
During her mayoral administration most of the actual work of running this small city was turned over to an administrator. She had been pushed to hire this administrator by party power-brokers after she had gotten herself into some trouble over precipitous firings which had given rise to a recall campaign.
Sarah campaigned in Wasilla as a "fiscal conservative". During her 6 years as Mayor, she increased general government expenditures by over 33%. During those same 6 years the amount of taxes collected by the City increased by 38%. This was during a period of low inflation (1996-2002). She reduced progressive property taxes and increased a regressive sales tax which taxed even food. The tax cuts that she promoted benefited large corporate property owners way more than they benefited residents.
The huge increases in tax revenues during her mayoral administration weren't enough to fund everything on her wish list though, borrowed money was needed, too. She inherited a city with zero debt, but left it with indebtedness of over $22 million. What did Mayor Palin encourage the voters to borrow money for? Was it the infrastructure that she said she supported? The sewage treatment plant that the city lacked? or a new library? No. $1m for a park. $15m-plus for construction of a multi-use sports complex which she rushed through to build on a piece of property that the City didn't even have clear title to, that was still in litigation 7 yrs later--to the delight of the lawyers involved! The sports complex itself is a nice addition to the community but a huge money pit, not the profit- generator she claimed it would be. She also supported bonds for $5.5m for road projects that could have been done in 5-7 yrs without any borrowing.
While Mayor, City Hall was extensively remodeled and her office redecorated more than once.
These are small numbers, but Wasilla is a very small city.
As an oil producer, the high price of oil has created a budget surplus in Alaska. Rather than invest this surplus in technology that will make us energy independent and increase efficiency, as Governor she proposed distribution of this surplus to every individual in the state. In this time of record state revenues and budget surpluses, she recommended that the state borrow/bond for road projects, even while she proposed distribution of surplus state revenues: spend today's surplus, borrow for needs.
She's not very tolerant of divergent opinions or open to outside ideas or compromise. As Mayor, she fought ideas that weren't generated by her or her staff. Ideas weren't evaluated on their merits, but on the basis of who proposed them.
While Sarah was Mayor of Wasilla she tried to fire our highly respected City Librarian because the Librarian refused to consider removing from the library some books that Sarah wanted removed. City residents rallied to the defense of the City Librarian and against Palin's attempt at out-and-out censorship, so Palin backed down and withdrew her termination letter. People who fought her attempt to oust the Librarian are on her enemies list to this day.
Sarah complained about the "old boy's club" when she first ran for Mayor, so what did she bring Wasilla? A new set of "old boys". Palin fired most of the experienced staff she inherited. At the City and as Governor she hired or elevated new, inexperienced, obscure people, creating a staff totally dependent on her for their jobs and eternally grateful and fiercely loyal--loyal to the point of abusing their power to further her personal agenda, as she has acknowledged happened in the case of pressuring the State's top cop (see below).
As Mayor, Sarah fired Wasilla's Police Chief because he "intimidated" her, she told the press. As Governor, her recent firing of Alaska's top cop has the ring of familiarity about it. He served at her pleasure and she had every legal right to fire him, but it's pretty clear that an important factor in her decision to fire him was because he wouldn't fire her sister's ex- husband, a State Trooper.
Under investigation for abuse of power, she has had to admit that more than 2 dozen contacts were made between her staff and family to the person that she later fired, pressuring him to fire her ex-brother-in- law. She tried to replace the man she fired with a man who she knew had been reprimanded for sexual harassment; when this caused a public furor, she withdrew her support.
She has bitten the hand of every person who extended theirs to her in help. The City Council person who personally escorted her around town introducing her to voters when she first ran for Wasilla City Council became one of her first targets when she was later elected Mayor. She abruptly fired her loyal City Administrator; even people who didn't like the guy were stunned by this ruthlessness.
Fear of retribution has kept all of these people from saying anything publicly about her.
When then-Governor Murkowski was handing out political plums, Sarah got the best, Chair of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission: one of the few jobs not in Juneau and one of the best paid. She had no background in oil & gas issues. Within months of scoring this great job which paid $122,400/yr, she was complaining in the press about the high salary. I was told that she hated that job: the commute, the structured hours, the work. Sarah became aware that a member of this Commission (who was also the State Chair of the Republican Party) engaged in unethical behavior on the job. In a gutsy move which some undoubtedly cautioned her could be political suicide, Sarah solved all her problems in one fell swoop: got out of the job she hated and garnered gobs of media attention as the patron saint of ethics and as a gutsy fighter against the "old boys' club" when she dramatically quit, exposing this man's ethics violations (for which he was fined).
As Mayor, she had her hand stuck out as far as anyone for pork from Senator Ted Stevens. Lately, she has castigated his pork-barrel politics and publicly humiliated him. She only opposed the "bridge to nowhere" after it became clear that it would be unwise not to.
As Governor, she gave the Legislature no direction and budget guidelines, then made a big grandstand display of line-item vetoing projects, calling them pork. Public outcry and further legislative action restored most of these projects--which had been vetoed simply because she was not aware of their importance-- but with the unobservant she had gained a reputation as "anti-pork".
She is solidly Republican: no political maverick. The State party leaders hate her because she has bit them in the back and humiliated them. Other members of the party object to her self-description as a fiscal conservative.
Around Wasilla there are people who went to high school with Sarah. They call her "Sarah Barracuda" because of her unbridled ambition and predatory ruthlessness. Before she became so powerful, very ugly stories circulated around town about shenanigans she pulled to be made point guard on the high school basketball team. When Sarah's mother-in-law, a highly respected member of the community and experienced manager, ran for Mayor, Sarah refused to endorse her.
As Governor, she stepped outside of the box and put together of package of legislation known as "AGIA" that forced the oil companies to march to the beat of her drum.
Like most Alaskans, she favors drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. She has questioned if the loss of sea ice is linked to global warming. She campaigned "as a private citizen" against a state initiative that would have either a) protected salmon streams from pollution from mines, or b) tied up in the courts all mining in the state (depending on who you listen to). She has pushed the State's lawsuit against the Dept. of the Interior's decision to list polar bears as threatened species.
McCain is the oldest person to ever run for President; Sarah will be a heartbeat away from being President.
There has to be literally millions of Americans who are more knowledgeable and experienced than she.
However, there's a lot of people who have underestimated her and are regretting it.
CLAIM VS FACT
*"Hockey mom": true for a few years
*"PTA mom": true years ago when her first-born was in elementary school, not since
*"NRA supporter": absolutely true
*social conservative: mixed. Opposes gay marriage, BUT vetoed a bill that would have denied benefits to employees in same-sex relationships (said she did this because it was unconstitutional) .
*pro-creationism: mixed. Supports it, BUT did nothing as Governor to promote it.
*"Pro-life": mixed. Knowingly gave birth to a Down's syndrome baby BUT declined to call a special legislative session on some pro-life legislation
*"Experienced": Some high schools have more students than Wasilla has residents. Many cities have more residents than the state of Alaska. No legislative experience other than City Council. Little hands-on supervisory or managerial experience; needed help of a city administrator to run town of about 5,000.
*political maverick: not at all
*gutsy: absolutely!
*open & transparent: ??? Good at keeping secrets. Not good at explaining actions.
*has a developed philosophy of public policy: no
*"a Greenie": no. Turned Wasilla into a wasteland of big box stores and disconnected parking lots.
Is pro- drilling off-shore and in ANWR.
*fiscal conservative: not by my definition!
*pro-infrastructure: No. Promoted a sports complex and park in a city without a sewage treatment plant or storm drainage system. Built streets to early 20th century standards.
*pro-tax relief: Lowered taxes for businesses, increased tax burden on residents
*pro-small government: No. Oversaw greatest expansion of city government in Wasilla's history.
*pro-labor/pro- union. No. Just because her husband works union doesn't make her pro-labor. I have seen nothing to support any claim that she is pro-labor/pro- union.
WHY AM I WRITING THIS?
First, I have long believed in the importance of being an informed voter. I am a voter registrar. For 10 years I put on student voting programs in the schools. If you google my name (Anne Kilkenny + Alaska), you will find references to my participation in local government, education, and PTA/parent organizations.
Secondly, I've always operated in the belief that "Bad things happen when good people stay silent". Few people know as much as I do because few have gone to as many City Council meetings.
Third, I am just a housewife. I don't have a job she can bump me out of. I don't belong to any organization that she can hurt. But, I am no fool; she is immensely popular here, and it is likely that this will cost me somehow in the future: that's life.
Fourth, she has hated me since back in 1996, when I was one of the 100 or so people who rallied to support the City Librarian against Sarah's attempt at censorship.
Fifth, I looked around and realized that everybody else was afraid to say anything because they were somehow vulnerable.
CAVEATS
I am not a statistician. I developed the numbers for the increase in spending & taxation 2 years ago (when Palin was running for Governor) from information supplied to me by the Finance Director of the City of Wasilla, and I can't recall exactly what I adjusted for: did I adjust for inflation? for population increases? Right now, it is impossible for a private person to get any info out of City Hall--they are swamped. So I can't verify my numbers.
You may have noticed that there are various numbers circulating for the population of Wasilla, ranging from my "about 5,000", up to 9,000. The day Palin's selection was announced a city official told me that the current population is about 7,000. The official 2000 census count was 5,460. I have used about 5,000 because Palin was Mayor from 1996 to 2002, and the city was growing rapidly in the mid-90's.

I found this comment by an Alaskan: (excerpted) Schools in Alaska under Governor Palin (specifically the Fairbanks area, interior Alaska) are not in accordance with the "No Child Left Behind” Act of 2001 signed into law by President Bush. Alaska's schools lack Special Education teachers and tutors for special needs students. The state of Alaska, under Governor Palin, has cut the aforementioned programs that the federal money was intended to provide for by labeling these students something other than "special needs."
How do you know when Sarah Palin is lying? Her lips are moving.
"Sarah Palin may come from the backwoods of Alaska..."
The author Mary Mitchell appears to be black. Should a white person have written such statement, I am not surprised that she/he will be called a snob, an elitist or the big R, racist. On September 5, another black female columnist outright called Palin's speech a racial divide, blah, blah. To be frank, I, as a foreign born and foreign raised, am really sick of anyone who keeps labeling another person who doesn't agree with a black person RACIST.
Let's spare the big R word, and get down to the real discussion. Calling other people racists does not make junior black candidate, who dares not to take a stand lest he hurts his political career, a qualified presidential candidate.
Tell them what they want to her and they will come! this is what republicans said about the democrats. In their case play on their stupidity and they will love you.
This women is a "Token" to all the stupid women who tend to follow what ever their man tells them. If you belive that she's just against a woman's right to choose educate yourself.
Put, her in the white house and you don't need hollywood to glorify teen sex. The governement has already done so. She parades her son around for sympathy, I'm just like you! But, ladies I can bet you a million dollars while the average woman struggles to provide, pay hospital bills and find government funded program for their special needs children she will never know the struggle. While the average teen mom is on welfare, uneducated and will never know what it is to marry her "baby daddy" her daughter will. Ladies stop living in a fantasy land you have nothing incommon with her except the fact you can conceive or have the same body parts.
Stop it ladies! it just proves that to men we are weak and that we don't deserve the same rights and that we need to be dictated too. I heard a woman say that she was voting for Hillary because she was a mother just like her. Well lady so is the crackhead, the abuser and the mother of little Caylee in Florida. Do ya still feel bonded? I am a a wife and mother of five and no I don't belong to the special club of woman who say we are bonded because we are mothers. Bullcrap! Now, if the shoe were on the other foot and Obama's daughter was pregnant, and her black babydaddy at the convention or even if they had a sick child would we be saying the same? Heck, no election would have been over. And they would have sent him right back to the hood.
Just imagine what you have to say to your daughters/sons around the world when this is glorified. This isn't Jamie Lynn Spears, Bristols family will have more clout.
Victims we are but by our own doing!

Sarah Palin is hate's new face. New face, same old hate.
Mary Mitchell you disappoint me. You usually are so open minded about issues in this world. You are a strong women and have strong opinons about issues in todays world. You tell us about other strong women and how great they are. Then when a strong women speaks her mind, much like you do, you fall into that feminist trap. It's only good if we say it is good. You are better than that. We all know you like Obama, but if you can't take it when he is critized, you are not as open minded as I thought. Remember, he is only liked by about 57% (McCain too) of the electorate.
Is this the best the Republicans can do??? I'm sure Saturday Nite Live will have a field day with her quote "pitbull in lipstick." I agree with Mary that all she talks about is small town america what about urban america??
One good column, and you print my view, my other views, when you bash, Christians and whites, I dont hear boo from you..lol now thats funny

Come on lighten up...no reflection on Obama but how many articles outlining misspent funds to community organizers do have to read to get the humor. "I don't know where the grant money went" must be a stock phrase in the community organizers handbook.
I like Palin and theink she is a great choice. She is simply stating what was said by Michelle and Barac Obama. If they don't like the comments coming out the the Republican party, maybe they need to watch what they say. And shame on Mary Mitchell for trying to make this out to be "Palin attacking", what is common knowledge. Michelle Obama said for the first time, she was proud of her country.... that is not made up. Barac said that we were clinging to our guns and religon.... that is also not made up. I am sick of Obama telling us what a bad place America is, and he is the only one that can save us!!! If you are unhappy here in America........LEAVE
McCain and Palin, the blind leading the blind, they both fall in the ditch.if the election was tommorow their crap would have stick, november 4th will not only victorious, but with a landslide.
Women should be ashame of theirselves. They are planning on voting off of emotions. They would rather see a women at a high position without thinking about the issus. How do8susse Palin feel about immigration, eduction, the black ghettos, healthcare, walfare, and a high unemployment. Don't forget about her church who basicilly said Israel deserve terrorism. I guest these women are THE DOMB AMERICANS WHO MOST LIKLY VOTED FOR BUSH, BECAUSE HE HAD A GREAT PERSONILTY, AND WHO JUST DON'T KNOW ANY BETTER.
This is a reply to Joan Ditges above:
Everything sounded decent until the end when you mentioned the South side of Chicago and Obama. I think the 245 people shot or killed on the South side of Chicago this summer would disagree with you on the great job Obama did for the people of Chicago. He is no Martin Luther King, JR, lady. He has to have more than color in common for that comparison - and the empty suit just doesn't have it.
What exactly did she say about Senator Obama that wasn't true?
Quote #1:
"...I guess a small-town mayor is sort of like a "community organizer," except that you have actual responsibilities. I might add that in small towns, we don't quite know what to make of a candidate who lavishes praise on working people when they are listening, and then talks about how bitterly they cling to their religion and guns when those people aren't listening. We tend to prefer candidates who don't talk about us one way in Scranton and another way in San Francisco..."
In that Senator Obama himself (in one of his memoirs) could not really describe what a "community organizer" does...and he WAS recorded saying just exactly that while in San Francisco.
Have to say that was true.
I looked at the others and they are similarly factual.
BTW - Senator Biden mentioned Senator McCain by name 13 times (once to say that he was his friend, 12 critical in a negative way).
So, sounds like Governor Palin was responding in kind...
truth hurts, I guess...
Mary, you're the typical cry-baby left wing liberal. Waaahh!! The Republicans, McCain, and Palin are kicking your Democrat's a** and what do you do, pull the race card. How typical. You're a disgrace as a journalist.
People come on - seriously. Please do not tell me that we the voting public are letting the Rep. party pull the wool over our eyes again-they did it with the Chads and with Alzheimer's now they are going for comedy by using zingers and bad knock-knock jokes as the overall basic criteria for selecting a presidential candidate. Now I enjoy comedy or sarcasm/arrogance disguised as comedy as much as the next person, but let me just remind you what is not consider comedy- no oil, no jobs, no pension, no medical insurance, no social security, no flights, no homes and no sleep at night. Soups on... now thats comedy
Comments stating that it is a shame that our grass roots are no longer dear as though a dried up corsage pinned on a laden Obama plaques thrown in the trash left-over flag with the no flag on the lapel, is hard to swallow. Soul searching may need to be required, because we have a few lost souls.
Palin was fantastic. Try as you may to discredit her due to her experience and sex, you will fail because she is real and wheres her beliefs on her sleave for all to see. Where Obama/Biden represent socialist ideas disuised as Democrats. This is exactly why I changed parties. The Republican party isnt perfect, but its not socialist.
I'm sorry, but if you haven't seen the movie "Jesus Camp", know that Palin is intermingled with that ideology. You know, the whole brainwashing and training kids to be literal Soldiers For Christ? Yeah...
And that is truly terrifying.
I'm happy to see a woman as a V.P. candidate. Awesome. But she claims to be independent and for changing Washington, but she is currently excelling at typical Washington politics, i.e. talking out the side of her mouth.
Just a lot of hot air, no substance, and made-up facts.
It makes me sad. Hopefully the America public does not buy this Republican smokescreen.
Since when is "experience" a Republican ploy? Since Obama has none. After a total of 143 days experience, Obama is saying that 2 years as Governor of Alaska is not enough to be president. Why is it a "personal attack" if we say anything even remotely criticizing the savior Obama, but you can say even worse about Republicans? Obama, the most junior Senator, has no qualifications to be even a GOOD senator, much less President. His executive experience consists of talking on the phone to (haha) Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter.
What happen to the column that was published on Sat. Sept. 6th, by Mary Mitchell about Sarah Palin's dividing the blacks and whites regarding community organizers. I sent a response and gee can't seem to find the article even in the archives. It says you have written only 2 articles in September. What gives?
"Those are the kinds of jabs the Obama campaign will have a difficult time dealing with simply because Palin is a female, and the campaign will not want to appear to be sexist."
no, mary, those jabs are hard to deal with because they happen to be true.
I would be willing to bet the city and state have emergency plans (national guard, etc) for race riots in the event Obama loses...
Palin is an extremist. Big surprise she acts like a hick man - ever checked out the ratio of men to women in Alaska. And it's no surprise Alaska is all blue collar Republicans. But we need moderation in this country now more than ever - not some wanna be who shoots first and asks questions later. She slays salmon? Her own words. Getting off on death. Pitbulls been banned in alot of neighborhoods. Ones with children and families.
Personally someone who is good at being mean/enciting hatred against half her own country and wearing fake glasses to look smart never really impressed me. Usually quite the opposite.
Keep rallying the peasants to the streets by pandering to their psuedo-issues, all while the world crumbles around them. How long do you think they can keep convincing young men(my peers) to march off and die for exremist filthy rich white old men? It's already getting to be slim pickins I hear. Thank god for the Internet so regular folks can rise above Fox/News Corp/etc and get real news.
Palin knows nothing about national politics and I agree with Lucky she is a circus act with Mccain and his handlers as the ringmasters. Truly if you are woman and you are a democrat and you truly think Palin speaks for you, you never were a democrat to begin with. Because Palin truly does not have democrats, interests in mind be you female or male. Shame on you for thinking that.
Plain is being used by Mccain. If they lose this election, she will be blamed heavily for it, and her career over. Why burn bridges? she claims to be going to washington to work for the american people, yet she is not prepared to work with democrats. I doubt anyone will be interested in her if she and mccain lose in november. You know her speech reeked of arrogance and behaviour unbecoming of a christian, which she claims to be.The whole world watched her, and I wonder how much diplomatic weight she will add to the ticket. This is Carl rove's show to run, and continue lying to americans that bush and mccain are not cut from the same cloth. if americans vote then into office, then americans deserve their in
I HAVE NEVER BEEN OPPOSED TO VOTING FOR THE BEST CANDIDATE.REGARDLESS OF PARTIES. BUT THIS IS A JOKE AND OFFENSIVE TO WOMEN ALL OVER THE WORLD IF THEY THINK THAT WE ARE SO SIMPLE MINDED TO VOTE FOR A WOMAN LIKE PALIN. ONE OF MY FAVORITE QUOTES: HOW CAN WE HAVE PEACE IN THE MIDDLEEAST WHEN THERE'S NONE AT HOME. ARE YOU WILLING TO SACRFICE OR NATIONS GREATEST ASSETS YOUR CHILDREN FOR THE SAKE OF A CAREER. WHERE YOU ARE BEING USED JUST BECAUSE YOU ARE A WOMAN!
This country is made up of more than just east cost elite and big city dwellers. Palin represents a portion of citizens that candidates like Obama forget exist. She has a good set of bases to draw from. The election is a new race thanks to Palin.
For all you women(namely white women)who are now going to vote for McCain because he pick a women who has not done her homework on poverty, health care, immigration, and race relation are going to do this cuntry a lot of good, for voting on emotion. Remember George Bush? Look at the inview she gave on ABC. That was f---ing scary. I would love to see a woman in office, Reblican or Democriat. With that interview she gave, it shows she does not have a clue. Go to war with Russia? Bad judgement. Our young troops are already going through hell. By the way go to YOUTUBE AND TYPE IN THE REAL MCCAIN, AND YOU WILL SEE WHAT TYPE OF PRESIDENT WE MIGHT HAVE!!
MARY, I AM SO DISSAPPOINTED WITH US AS WOMEN. I MYSELF WOULD LIKE SOMEDAY TO SEE A WOMAN PUT INTO THE VICE OR PRESIDENT POSITION ONE DAY, BUT I WILL NOT BACK A WOMAN, BECAUSE SHE IS A WOMAN, THAT HAS NO IDEA HOW TO RUN THIS COUNTRY. ARE WE SO DESPERATE TO RESULT TO THIS. IT'S OBVIOUS AFTER HER INTERVIEW WITH CHARLES NOT CHARLIE (SH0W THE MAN SOME RESPECT) GIBSON, THAT SHE HAS NO IDEA WHAT SHE'S TALKING ABOUT, AS HE HAD TO EXPLAIN TO HER SEVERAL TIMES. YEAH LIKE MCCAIN SAYS SHE KNOWS WHO SHE WORKS FOR AND IS PLAYING THE PUPPET ROLE TO THE FULL EXTENT, THEN WOMEN WHO WERE FOR HILARY WANT TO GET MAD AND CHANGE OVER TO VOTE FOR THIS WOMAN, I THINK THAT'S A SLAP IN THE FACE FOR HILARY, SHE DOESN'T COME CLOSE TO HAVING THE KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE THAT HILARY HAS,AND HILARY KNEW HOW TO STAND UP TO THOSE (REPUBLICANS) WHO USED THE GENDER CARD WITH HER AND HELD HER OWN, WHILE NOW WE WANT TO SAY LEAVE PALIN ALONE SHE'S A WOMAN. WE SHOULD HAVE FAUGHT HARDER FOR HILARY. I BELIEVE THIS WOMAN WILL SET US BACK YEARS AND GIVE THE COUNTRY A REASON T0 SAY THAT THIS IS THE REASON WHY WE DO NOT NEED A FEMALE PRESIDENT.
She's a circus act. I think when this is all over she's going to seriously hurt McCains campaign. That speech only rallied the hardcore republicans any civil american won't go for that foolishness. That was a horrible display of hate and low flying insults.
Ah... you wanna rethink that statement cupcake?
Last week I canceled our subscription to the Chicago Tribune. After 20 years, I finally had enough. I've been taking a look at the Sun-Times to see if perhaps I would like to subscribe.
The first indication that the answer to that question was, "No!" was that Carol Marin was a columnist. The Tribune printed a few of her columns a while back and they were poorly written.
Then I noticed that you publish anonymous letters to the editor.
The third strike is columnist Mary Mitchell. She says that Gov. Palin is on the Republican ticket because she's a woman.
What would be the reaction if I said that the only reason Mitchell was hired by the Sun-Times is because she's not Caucasian?
Then Mitchell looks down her nose at Palin because the governor was able to hold her own during her convention speech. She’s disgusted that Palin "mocked" Sen. Obama.
I guess Mitchell missed the Obama Campaign response to the news that Palin had been chosen as Sen. McCain's running mate. So, here it is:
"Today, John McCain put the former mayor of a town of 9,000 with zero foreign policy experience a heartbeat away from the presidency."
Well, the only thing I'm really missing from the Tribune is the television guide, so I guess my best bet is to subscribe to the TV Guide Magazine.
The least of what the world can expect after George Bush is that the American voter exercise his or her rights with a certain amount of discretion. Obama came onto the stage with a noble idea and now it is reduced down to the level where a 60 year woman and a 72 year man are willing to use every dishonest dirty trick to get into office. No degrading attempt is left out to trick the average viewer in to moving in a certain direction. The problems of the average American and the security of the free world are in the hands of a segment of America that is best in the position to judge American Idol than they are to pick the right issues and the qualified President/VP. If Palin is president then I see this hockey mom up against Putin. At that time all the hockey moms can kiss their sons goodbye. The USA is stuck in Irak and stuck in Afghanistan. Today in Vietnam I can buy Coca Cola and eat and dress in the latest American trends. What do we say to the Americans who died there and are still suffering from their injuries? What do we say to the Americans who who are now coming home...Hey now after Bush we are getting a Hockey Mom who is dumber than Bush. Does any one think that McCain can survive his first 4 years? God help American out of this phase!
after reading your colmn today it is safe to say, you mam are a fruit cake
the folks that are whooping and hollering about all things palin might be in for a jolt when they learn she's virtually clueless about other issues that affect them...(jobs-and how to create a few, education, international relations-it ain't all about seeing Russia through cheap binoculars, the environment...and on, and on).then again, maybe it's hard to jolt robots.
Sarah Palin has shown she is indeed, a hockey-mom pit-bull. However, we do not need pit-bull politicians in our present political climate. That's what got us into Iraq and what will get us into a war with Russia. We need diplomats. If your kid is having trouble on the playground, and you go talk to the other kid's mom about it, do you want to be talking to a pit-bull? No. You want a reasonable person who is willing to work things out, not just be snarky and mean. Nasty does not replace knowledgeable on the world stage.
A thank you first to Mary Mitchell for writing this blog. I appreciate that your post was so point-on and unclouded by all the media BS that I've been reading about Sarah Palin - it helped me see the forest for the trees. And an even bigger thank you to Kimberly R Peacock who posted probably the best blog comment I've read in ten years. After months of saying "I'm not sure," and not really thinking I would ever have a clear choice, my vote has been decided. It's definitely time to do what's best for the whole instead of agonizing over the fear mongering that has been pushed onto us by the media. I will remember Rome and will definitely think of America "the country" when I cast my vote.
its amazing that so many woman will vote for Palin only because she is a woman. I have no problem with woman holding possitions of importance, but to vote for her because you feel she is being attacked, come on her republican speech was written by a bush speech writer, so much for change, all and everything she says is vague at best. she has no experience at all, being mayor of a small town and being in politics for 2 1/2 years makes me wonder, macann is the same ol same ol, promise everything and take everything, people this truely is a turning point we NEED. If we stay on the rep. road the middle class disappears. YOULL PAY WITH PALIN
So, the GOP is only interesed in obtaining the working "white women" vote. Well, since I belong to the to the other group of Amerian women, who also work, I am greatly offended by this.
That's why I would like to appeal to my sisters, to vote with their pocketbooks, and minds and vote for Barack Obama.
Just because John Mccain picked a women for his vp choice, who by the way wants choice for herself but not for others if the decision differs from hers, she isn't a benefit.
I rather have a candidate, that shares my views, than to waste a vote because he picked a woman, and that's all that matters.
This vote is to important to be thrown away on a beehive hair-do and a great pair of glasses.
Yea, I said it. I am a Barack Obama supporter, and will be doing all I can to help him get elected.
There is an old saying that you should talk what you know and testify what you see. Who knew that neither Rudolph Guliani or Sarah Palin has any idea what community organizing is, and the dedication it takes to be an organizer. A community organizer is a leader who works tirelessly for people who have no voice. They complain, they vote, they reach out for help, but because they don't have power, the politicians don't hear them. Enter the community organizer. He comes into the neighborhood, shows the people how to use their collective voice to obtain power and get results. That is the essence of what America should be. That is the foundation that Barack Obama's purpose in politics was built on. When Guliani and Palin mock those who serve the people, and praise those who serve the party, it becomes clear why we need Barack Obama in the White House.
It's amazing how Pailn is admired by many for her toughness. That's difinitely a double standard. When Obama starts to respond to Palin and McCain in an aggressive manner, I dare anyone to charge him as being abusive of Palin. As usual a male/female of African-American origin must walk on pins and needles, especially when competing against a white female. I notice many of the previous writers only wrote about the leadership of Palin, not McCain. Also, how can so many people admire a woman, who couldn't properly keep her own household in order. In this day and age she's admired for raising a teen-age mom-to-be. How in the hell could she properly run a country, when she couldn't properly run her household. If this was the case for Obama, he and the Mrs. would have been nothing but degraded. America use youe brains and vote for Obama/Palin. These are candidates who have the proper solutions to put America back on track. McCain/Palin have no solutions, other than campaiging, to make history for being the oldest man to become president and the first woman (un-qualified) to become the first female
Vice-President, with no plans.
SO YOU'RE SAYING EVERY WOMAN WHO HAS HAD A TEEN DAUGHTER GET PREGNANT ISN'T RUNNING THEIR HOUSEHOLD PROPERLY....WHERE'S THE FATHER WHAT WAS HE DOING? THERE'S A GOOD QUESTION. WHERE BARACK'S PARENTS NOT RUNNING THEIR HOUSEHOLD PROPERLY OR LET ME SAY THIS WERE VALUES NOT DEEP ENOUGH INSTILLED IN HIM WHEN HE STARTED DOING DRUGS TRYING TO FIND THE ANSWERS ABOUT HIMSELF DEEP INSIDE HIMSELF. IT COULD HAPPEN TO ANY OF US....
DMMCS I HOPE YOU DON'T HAVE ANY DAUGHTERS. MY MOTHER TAUGHT ME TO NEVER SPIT UP IT ALWAYS COMES BACK DOWN.
If I made ridiculous comments like that, I would remain "Anonymous" too!
Yet another STUPID column by racist mary mitchell.
I now read your b.s. just for kicks, to see what the reverse racists of the world are up to.
Keep crying about how unfair everyone is treating barack hussein obama. I laugh.
TO ALL WHOM CAN ASSIST:
Continue to consider saying no to the bail out rescue plan. For years, people have maintained living from check to check to pay bills, raise children and still managed to survive. These sometime rude corporate giants and there employees with bad communication, need to know what a squeeze or a pitch. Because now companies and organization being funded need evaluations and renegotiation of staff and activities to understand the importance of collaborations, mergers, partnerships, reducing salaries to create part time employment and completing tasks that really benefit the community. Use the funding for new organizations, under-served communities, and cities that with our new agendas and plans to STAY “REP” FOCUSD’ can reduce, eliminate, and prevent malnutrition, food deserts, unemployment, all violence, foreclosures, underage drinking, smoking, and pregnancies.
REPARATION TIME, FORTY ACRES, AND A MULE!
In the back of everyone’s mind, there is a complied list of just some of the extreme disaster that occurred in twelve Bush years? To mention a few, an earthquake and tsunami @ the same time, 911, wars, you do the math. The Republican Party is now running Leatherneck and a Pit-bull; she said the difference is the lipstick. Now another teenage pregnancy, no one washes, oils (saliva), or brushes the newborn or holds the 8-year-old hand. Children begin raising each other and themselves, a litter, then wonder off. Parents that work constantly still have to raise children or they might resent them later. VOTE “08”
I would like to know what women are being polled. It appears that no one seems to think that minority women make a difference or have a thought where Palin is concerned. She's not that tough, she just hasn't gone toe-to-toe with the right woman. She has uttered nothing but vicious attacks against Obama, does she thinks that endears her to most women? Especially intelligent educated minority women. Do not underestimate our power! She might be intelligent, but it's hard to tell since she has shown us just how catty she can be!
As a responsible speaker, I have learned to earn an opinion instead of thinking I have a right to one. After listening to Palin speech thursday it made me want to vomit. I could not believe the support she received for her scripted speech. If the citizens of our nation feel that a candidate throwing mean-spirted attacks is right for office, its no wonder why just about everyone in the world dislikes the United States. America does not need another loud-mouthed, semi-educated person in office. America needs someone who is educated in foriegn policy. America needs a leader who can bring respect and honor back to the oval office. It is so unfortunate that in 2008, America still has a problem with race. Obama is the best suited candidate, but racism has to play its part. In order to form a more union, American citizens must put the right candidate in office.
