So I'm in the middle of an air strip with a group of journalists and I have to ask Barack Obama the "Uncle Tom" question? I could hardly get the words out. What's worse, why is it that some black folks love to act a fool in front of white folks?
Allegedly llinois Senate president Emil Jones called Del Marie Cobb, a Clinton delegate, an "Uncle Tom." After denying he said it, Jones gave Cobb a half-assed apology. Besides doing nothing to foster unity, the dispute made the Illinois pols look silly. I blame Jones for making the comment, and Del Marie for holding a press conference to complain about it. If black conservatives held a press conference every time a Democrat called one of them an "Uncle Tom," we'd be seeing press conferences 24/7.
Excuse me, but the fool is Emil Jones, and the hypocrite is you, Mary Mitchell. If a Clinton supporter had said something, YOU would be screaming racist. Shame on you
Mary, whats with this 'name-calling' in your community? In other words if a person has an opinion different then mine, I get to call him terrible names. Where is the 'open-mind', the 'freedom of speech', the 'right of every person to have their say and their opinion'? This is THUGGERY ! Remind the Emil Jones's of the world that this is America, not Nazi Germany. People don't have to walk lock-step (or is it goose-step) with everything he says or believes....And to think he is Obama's MENTOR ! Something for the republicans to latch-on too....
Mary, you ask, "why do some black folks love to act like fools in front of white folks?" ...Mary, do you really want to know? You are NOT going to like this: Because they can ! They think they get the so-called 'street-cred'for saying it. No black leader today has the courage or honor to say 'NO' or 'enough is enough' to this new thug-culture in your community. The MLK's, Roy Wilkins's, and Whitney Young's are GONE. As is DuBois, Langston Hughes, and Thurgood Marshall. Replaced by publicity-hounds, shake-down artists, and partisan-party gophers, as they say. And your politicans are BOUGHT. Why you even had one (Arenda Troutman) who was sleeping with gang-leaders. The VERY PEOPLE who were murdering the black children with drive-by shootings and at-random violence in her ward and other predominant black wards. And she's the alderwoman of these victims families. Talk about a horrible person. Yet, very little outrage concerning her. Sorry, but white people have a right to see all this and say to themselves, "what the h-ll is going on there?"
Nobody cares about Emil Jones, he makes a fool of himself everywhere he goes...and he needs speech lessons.
silly black people...
aren't there bigger fish to fry?
I KNOW YOU ARE A JOURNALIST BUT THIS ISN'T THE
TIME TO GET A FORUM ON THIS SITUATION!
PEOPLE PUT THEIR FOOT IN THEIR MOUTHS ALL THE
TIME JUST ASK JOHN MCCAIN!
Of all the things that make Illinois politicians look silly, this doesn't even register on the radar screen.
Being unable to get anything done in Springfield even when one party controls the executive and the legislature: that makes us look silly.
Bouncing a Senate candidate off the ballot because he wanted to have sex with his own wife and then replacing him with Fundie the Clown (aka Alan Keyes): that makes us look silly.
Scandal after scandal in Chicago under the "hands-on" mayor who suddenly never knows anything whenever there's malfeasance under his watch: that makes us look silly.
Insane taxes and regulations that chase businesses out of the state and discourages others from ever considering setting up shop here: that makes us look silly.
Having a sitting governor inches away from indictment while his predecessor already sits in jail: that makes us look silly.
A "he said she said" spat with racial overtones between people who don't matter to anyone outside of Illinois: nobody cares.
Mary I know Del Marie and she no Uncle Tom, she is a strong black woman who has fought long and hard to get where she is in life and still lives in the hood, never moving out and leaving the community she grew up in. She has strong convections and will stand up for herself. Had the shoe been on the other foot I beleive Jone's would have call the press as well he would have yell it to the roof top. We as black people need to stop covering up when our own say and do thing that they shouldnt whats in the dark comes to the light. Cobb has the right to stand behind whom ever she wants as you and I have that same right does that make us Auntie Mama I support Obama I still call Del Marie my FRIEND.
The fools are the black people for electing these clowns over and over again. Emil Jones isnt qualified to run a paper route.
Mary, has anyone ever offered to just slap you silly?
Mary, Mary, Mary! Was this an appropriate topic for a blog? I think not. It does nothing to foster community unity (as you so pointed out) and leaves the door open for idiotic non-related comments like the one above regarding Arenda Troutman. If statistics and/or actual facts were displayed, it would be overwhelming as to the number of White politicians who have been bought and spent time in jail, just to name a few noteworthy: Dan Rostenkowski and George Ryan. These were high-ranking officials. Arenda Troutman and Emil Jones are small fish.
Why was the Clinton supporter holding a press conference to whine about it? Black people get called worse every day.
Mary, you have written frequently about the power of words to degrade as well as uplift. You know the cumulative impact of “bitch,” “ho” and the like repeated over and over. You have criticized the men and women who excuse such language in the music world or on the “street.” And yet, in the “whatever it takes, anything goes, you’re either with us or a racist/Uncle Tom” atmosphere of this presidential campaign, it seems we must rationalize behavior that undermines the standards and values of the “unity” rhetoric.
If name-calling is wrong, it is wrong regardless of who does it or the situation. If it is wrong, then it must be challenged whether the subject is our own child, Barack Obama, the late Stephanie Tubbs Jones, or Hillary Clinton. None should have to suffer in silence, their “silly complaints” brushed off as “distractions” apparently deemed unrelated to the “big picture” or some “higher” goal.
Toxic words injure, stress and divide. Without consequences, they become the norm. Thankfully, Delmarie (note the correct spelling of her first name) Cobb has the courage, unwavering integrity and racial pride to demand our best behavior – not for the approval of somebody else, but among and for ourselves. She speaks up for Black pundits and politicians she disagrees with, when she believes them unfairly attacked. You all may not have her back, like she has yours, but trust me – there are plenty of us out here who do.

Have you ever noticed that Republicans, unable to defend the atrocities associated with their party and its agenda, are usually reduced to name calling? It seems that's all they are good at.
These people are not in politics because they are exceptionally bright. They are there because they are not capable of making it in the real world.
Yes, they are fools, and they will continue to expose themselves as such.
The comment made the Illinois delegation look SILLY you wrote. Silly is a child making faces.
What the political mentor of Obama did was jusssssssssst a little more than silly. It was typical though. And more common of late.
As was Obama's spiritual mentor who he described as a family uncle when Rev Wright made his racists comments.
Seems to be a pattern. Radical, anti-government, racists, comments or actions from long term relations, but no backlash.
Why do they do this? Because they can. There exists a double standard in America now. Blacks are so protected they can say and do most anything that's unacceptable to any other member of society and have no consequences.
Why do they do this? Because character and values are not a priority in the black urban community.
Why do they do this? So long as they provide dollars to the community they can say anything and still get the votes.
Why do they do this? Because journalists like Mary M and the mainstream media will ignore the situation and give it 1% attention just as they did with Jesse J's desire to perform surgery on Obama.
Why do they do this? It is how they really feel and after the Wright video, Al Sharpton Hymie comment, Jesse J ambulance chasing antics, it's become obvious to them they can publicize those feelings without worry.
Why do they do this? Because the black racists that desire segregation from American culture, but all the benefits, outnumber the blacks that have assimilated into America. Those racists blacks are what politicians and radicals want to attract and keep in their pocket.
Why do they do this? It's what they say in private all the time.
Why do they do this? There are no consequences to such behavior. In some places such comments may guarantee MORE support.
Why do they do this? They've had 4 generations of social programs that have miserably failed. Blame must be put on someone, and its easier to blame the government or white people than the black urban culture. So, anyone that supports a white person must be an uncle as they are "dissin" the black man.
Why do they do this? So a hip-hop artists will have new material for his next cd. Calling women the "B" word, or "ho's" and singing about killing another person is getting old. Now they can write about an uncle and put their spin on it.
How SILLY would it be to bet Emil will be given a government position in an Obama administration?
Holyly Beavers Hog Nuts - I can't believe that my uncles and father spent their time in the military @ the Battle of the Bulge - Guadacanal -Iwo Jima - Okinawa - and two of them were prisoners of War and one died in Korea to here the trash and politicians of Illinois and the nation. We have more pressing issues than name calling - That happened in the school yard along time ago for all of us. Start solving the problems of how are we going to get to work with the fuel prices we have - how to we heat our homes - how do we feed and educate our kids - and how do we financially have health care without taxing us to our eye balls.Lets all get a little serious.

Shame on all of us for wasting good real estate on these two...who gives a rat's bottom.
SUSAN RAMIREZ, you are so correct...As they played the tape on WIND-560AM, I just shook my head. Here was Jimmy Carter calling Obama "that black boy". The mainstream media hasn't even considered it a story. Imagine had a republican or independent called Obama 'black boy'? You would never hear the end of it......BTW, Susan, how did you feel when racist Chicago Alderwomen like Dorothey Tillman and Emma Mitts made vulgar derogatory comments about hispanics like your family and this media and these columnists just overlook it? We have a 'double-standard', as you can see.
What hell is wrong with our black people? You are either a Uncle Tom or a dead beat dad. I have been in the food service business since high school, I am now 33 years-old. I have been a manager for 12 years, I make close to $65,000per year. I have had mostly black women call me an Uncle Tom. There was one issue when three black women who were nures ask me to come and talk to them in the dining area, they had a complant about one of my employees. I ask the ladies what was the problem so I could take care it. One of the women said she does not want to talk me, because I look like a Uncle Tom, she said she rather talk to the white manager. I was in shock. I had to bite my tong, hold my breth, and count to ten. I told the women "I'm the general manager. There is know reason to talk to my assitant. You need to talk to me, this is my store." Her friends ask her not to say anything else because she was in the wrong. Mary, its bad enough we have black men and women who don't want to do anything with their lives, but to criticize me for trying to be somebody instand nobody is hurtful. I have lost a lot of friends from gangbanging growning up, but it seem they get more respect then does who try to make an honest living for there families. Mary what is your reaction to this?
Look-a-here Mr. TJ, all blacks are not "silly black people". At least there is no attitude of "entitlement" like John giving a reply and saying 'your community', you people are so racist. Why can't whites vote for a qualified Black man? We've been voting for white folk for decades. The minute a qualified black man or woman comes along, folks get "twisted". What a pity and a shame.
Lucy B.
Mary Iam a strong Obama supporter, I know Del Marie, if Emil call her a Uncle Tom why should she hide it, thats like hiding Jessie saying the things that come out of his mouth. Why do we think were suppose to keep covering up for people (because there black)Del Marie is a strong black woman who hasnt forgotten where she came from the South side of Chicago. She has the right to support who she wants to support that dosent make her a Uncle Tom that Make her the person I have always called Friend.

Its a graduation for African-Americans. You go from killing each other with guns to killing each other with words. I know many white people are wondering these days, why do black people hate each other so much? I agree with TJ "silly black people." Just like the movie Lord Of The Rings "Silly little hobbits."
...Well, anyway Mary, I appreciate your comment and don't want to accuse you of anything...
Excuse me Susan, how is Mary the hypocrite? She said exactly the right thing and I agree w/her. If a Clinton supporter had said it, they'd be wrong as well. TJ is right, there are much much bigger fish to fry and time shouldn't be wasted on this. I'm so sick and tired of our elected officials, that we pay w/our tax dollars acting like school children. First graders have better politics than these people.
I am a McCain supporter and call me what you want. What I find ignorant here is that you would bring it to our attention. Your selection of words is not always appropriate either.
Of course labeling one another because of our choice or how we choose to live is not acceptable. What is in plan view is that you, Emil Jones and others are satisfied with holding on to such terms as Uncle Tom and using them when you think it's to your advantage.
In a few years the bartering of the Black vote will no longer hold its high price because we will be the lesser of minorities. It's time for us to stand and be vocal for what we believe and not be bullied because we don't see eye to eye on Politicians regardless of race/gender.
Again I say, racism goes both ways Mary.
Once again, you have duped the public and your superiors into thinking your an asset and not a loss.
I wonder how much you make, and how much you go into the inner city to help out your sisters and brothers in need.
You push peoples buttons and call it a living.
Your nothing, but you call others names that also apply to you as well.
Your not fooling me, get your check, clear your desk and get out.
