After being booted off of MSNBC and CBS Radio for calling the Rutgers University women's basketball team "nappy-headed hos," you would think Don Imus would steer clear of racial remarks.
But Noooooo.
mus found himself again trying to defend racial remarks when he was criticized for raising questions about the race of a suspended Dallas Cowboy, cornerback Adam Jones.
"What color is he?" Imus asked a sports announcer. When told Jones is African-American, Imus responded : "There you go. Now we know."
Imus claims he is being misunderstood, and what he really was trying to say was that Jones is being picked on because he's black.
Really.
In the context of the story, Jones' race shouldn't have come up....period.
Mary,
Since birth, I have always supported the most precious freedom blesed of this country by the Constitution, that is, the right to free speech, no matter how hateful and odious. Imus comments is a test of limits, but by trying to muzzle this fossil fool would be playing right into his hands. Since returning to the air, he has been virtually ignored in the ratings, and desperate to find an issue to inflame and return listeners. I say, ignore him. Let's not play into his hands; instead, let's wash our hands of him.
Mary,
Since adulthood, I have always supported the most precious right bestowed by the Constitution; that is the right of every citizen to free speech, no matter how hateful or odious. Of course, Imus comments tests the limits of that right, but that's exactly what the fossil fool wants. Since returning in the air, Imus and his tired show has been largely ignored, so I think we should continue to ignore him and avoid playing into his wrinkled mind and hands. He would like nothing more than to inflame listeners and set off a heated controversy that would heat-up more ears and more ratings. I say, deny him the pleasure, ignore him.
In My opinion, can we please STOP this tiresome bashing of Imus and him making comments on his radio show, this does not deserve the media time or energy it receives, just like the first time Imus made an insensitive remark that was way overblown. 23 black CPS students have been murdered this past year in gang violence and people like Mary Mitchell, Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton are worried about what some 67 year old radio personality wrote about some overpaid, troubled criminal who has broke the law numerous times. Stop worrying and waiting to hear what Don Imus said and be a leader in helping the black community clean up neighborhoods of gang violence and cop killers. Those same cops that many members of the community will want to help them in ridding the community of senseless violence. Why don't Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson and Mary Mitchell do more to help African Americans achieve better funding for schools? The power to change a community is through EDUCATION. We must stop also teaching our black children that all there failures are do to some inherent racism from other people. This just leaves excuses for individuals instead of working harder. Of course racism exists, BUT the race-card is WAY over done and used by individuals like the one's mentioned above way too much. It seems Jesse Jackson only uses it when he knows he can get his face on television. Lets have leaders fight more for equalities in education for minorities and poor children of all races and NOT, worry about what Don Imus said on a radio show. Besides, I have listened to numerous African American radio stations in the morning before and have heard comments about caucasions, asians and hispanics that can be considered extremely indecent, racist and ignorant. I challenge anyone to listen and tell me that is not the case. But, those radio shows do not make headlines, it is accepted! Not just from black leaders, but leaders of all races.
The fact is Don Imus is a racist and he has no place on TV or with a microphone period. I feel that the people who hire this nut, something is wrong with them also, due to the fact he will not keep his BIG MOUTH shut, he is a loaded cannon.
I listened with curiosity at the story of Imus' comments regarding the athlete's arrest. I am African American. We are very touchy of late regarding any reference to color in our conversations from so-called 'reputable persons'. I maintain that if Chris Rock or the late George Carlin would have said the same things that Father Pfleger and Don Imus are credited with saying, we would still be laughing about them.
Though Imus nor Pfleger are considered comedians, they are both humorous in their delivery of information.
I say, let's not major in minors here. Don Imus is not the only person who asks the race of an individual in discussing a criminal news account. In everyday water cooler conversations people ask about race when they hear about crimes. If we're being honest, we will admit to this practice.
I remember clearly as a little girl, when my granny and papa would watch the news in the evening, the two of them trying to guess the race or ethnicity of the perpetrator by what the crime was. Now its not so easy to tell, because everybody does everything, but it seemed back then it used to be easy for them to guess.
My granny worked as a domestic who raised children of several white families and she was not considered racist or prejudiced in the least.
I am not racist either, and I ask about race in many instances.
If anyone deserves the benefit of the doubt, then we all do. Give Imus a break and let his listeners continue to listen to him as they please. I had never heard him except when the press made him infamous with plenty of free publicity for his controversial remarks.
Who cares!?!? Imus is an idiot! What makes our country great is that we have the right to express our thoughts.
Noone would have known what he said if the media hadn't run with the story.
I am a white male and i think his thoughts are moronic. I do not listen to him and never would have known what he said if the story had not been picked up by the national media.
Let capitalism take care of his ridiculous ideals. With no ratings he will soon be off the air.
STOP advertising for him!
I encourage ALL to look at the arrest reports over the past 3 years of professional athletes...by last count, approximately 95% have been African American.
That is not stereotyping...that is FACT!
REMEMBER A LEOPARD DOESN'T CHANGE ITS SPOTS!
DON IMUS HAS PROBLEMS AND HE KNOWS IT, HE ALWAYS GETS IN TROUBLE
WHEN HE COMMENTS ON AFRICAN-AMERICANS, BEFORE THE YEAR IS OVER,
HE WILL PUT HIS FOOT IN HIS MOUTH ONCE AGAIN!
PLEASE TELL IMUS, JUST BECAUSE HE HAS BLACKS ON HIS STAFF, WON'T
KEEP HIM FROM PUTTING HIS FOOT IN HIS MOUTH, REMEMBER A PAID SLAVE
IS STILL A SLAVE!
