The topic of discussion at the Publicity Club of Chicago's September luncheon will be: "Is Morning the New Prime Time for Chicago TV News?" The panel for the discussion will include WGN-Channel 9 executive producer Sandy Pudar, WLS-Channel 7 executive producer Doug Whitemire and WFLD-Channel 32 executive producer Todd Woolman. The panel will discuss the do's and don'ts for PR professionals as they go about pitching stories to the local early morning shows.

The luncheon will be held on Sept. 15 at Maggiano's Restaurant banquet room at 516 N. Clark St. from 11:30 to 1:30 p.m.

For maximizing the opportunity to debut a new hospital with a multi-faceted communications campaign of events, media relations and internal and external outreach, Sherman Health and Kathy Schaeffer and Associates Inc. took the Publicity Club of Chicago's top honor, the Platinum Award for the best overall public relations program at the 51st annual Publicity Club of Chicago's Golden Trumpet Awards ceremony on Friday at the Palmer House Hilton Hotel.

The Brand Builder Award for the program most significantly enhancing and promoting a brand for an organization, product or service was presented to the Chicago Botanic Garden for "More than a Pretty Garden." The Elynore Dolkart Meserow Creativity Award for exceptional creativity in a public relations campaign went to Edelman Worldwide for "Axe Dark Temptation: As Irresistible as Chocolate."

And the Edwin J. Shaughnessy Quality of Life Award for the year's foremost contribution to improving quality of life in society through PR was given to the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant & Refugee Rights for "Rigo Padilla: Outstanding College Student, Deportation Halted."

The Publicity Club of Chicago will present Lifetime Achievement Awards to Margie Korshak and Aaron Cushman at its 51st annual Golden Trumpet Awards ceremony, May 7, at the Palmer House Hilton Hotel in Chicago.

Aaron Cushman founded Cushman/Amberg Communications in Chicago in 1952, as Aaron D. Cushman and Associates. Today Cushman/Amberg is an independent communications agency headquartered in Chicago with an office in St. Louis and global reach through its long-time partnership in Public Relations Organization International. From his early days as an entertainment publicist promoting The Three Stooges, Sammy Davis Jr. and other entertainment luminaries, Aaron Cushman expanded his firm to handle other local Chicago accounts and eventually Fortune 500 companies. The agency developed a speciality in travel and tourism.

Margie Korshak is chairman of Margie Korshak Inc., one of Chicago's 10 largest public relations/events firms. Korshak began her career in 1967, in the PR department of the American Furniture Mart and founded her own agency at age 29. As press rep for Broadway in Chicago, Korshak has been instrumental in helping restore the vitality of the city's downtown theater scene. She also helped shape the face of Chicago retail business, providing PR counsel to Sears, Bloomingdale's, Crate & Barrel and Gap, among others.

Chicago journalist Nancy Loo and WBBM-Channel 2 weekend anchor Jim Williams will host the Publicity Club awards event. The Publicity Club's Golden Trumpet Awards recognize excellence in the public relations industry.

PCC_Web Screen Shot 2010.jpgThe Publicity Club of Chicago was set to launch a new brand logo and expanded, redesigned Web site on Monday, but a representative from the organization has just informed us the launch has been indefinitely delayed so more functionalities can be added.

When it does launch, the new Web site will target the organization's members and non-members whose expertise and training is in media relations, public relations and marketing. The online industry newsletter "Dateline" and the career resource "Jobs In PR" remain highlights of the site, and they are prominently displayed. Other features of the redesign include simpler navigation and content aggregation, an "Insider" blog, social networking outlets and video updates on organizational activities. "The redesigned Web site better reflects the prestigious leadership position the Publicity Club of Chicago plays in the Chicago PR and communications industry," said David Bosch, PCC president. The redesigned site features creative design work and Web site development by the Gammon Group in Joliet.

The Publicity Club of Chicago's 50th anniversary Golden Trumpet Awards ceremony is set for Thursday at the Palmer House Hilton, with festivities commencing at 11 a.m. Sun-Times columnist Bill Zwecker and WGN-Channel 9 entertainment reporter Dean Richards are set to co-host the event, which is expected to attract more than 400 Chicago-area public relations professionals. Sue Markgraf, president and co-founder of GreenMark Public Relations, and Dave Bosch, communications director of the Gift of Hope Organ & Tissue Donor Network are co-chairing the event. Congrats to all the winners.
