Anne State out at WBBM-Channel 2

Early news anchor and reporter Anne State exited CBS-owned WBBM-Channel 2 Thursday. Sources said her departure was by mutual agreement between her and station management. She is believed to no longer be under contract at Channel 2. Under previous WBBM general manager Joe Ahern, State had arrived at the station from San Diego in 2008 in the wake of star anchor Diann Burns' departure. State was initially being groomed as the next big female anchor talent at the station.

But with the arrival of new GM Bruno Cohen and news director Jeff Kiernan in late 2008, State's role was downgraded. In recent months, she had been co-anchoring the station's early newscasts and doing general assignment reporting. For now, Rob Johnson will carry on as solo anchor of both the station's early and late news. "We appreciate Anne's contributions and wish her the very best in her future endeavors," said Kiernan.

Anne State was the best. The crown jewel of CBS 2 news. She delivered the news with great ease as if she was talking to you in person. Unlike the boring and scripted approaches that our other Chicago anchors display. How CBS 2 management could let this smart, beautiful and personable anchor go is beyond imagination. They initially had the right idea in having her anchor the 5, 6 and 10 news.

I hope Anne goes to another Chicago station and shows CBS 2 management what a huge mistake they made. Anne, stay in Chicago you belong here!

We really miss Anne. She and Rob made such a dynamic duo and both were both refreshing and professional. Please rethink this move!

I have been out of the country and recently learned Anne was no longer with CBS 2 News. TOO, TOO BAD! Anne, you are the best and I wish you well. In the beginning I came down hard on you, and you responded with grace and beauty. You brought "CLASS" to the news and to CBS.I enjoyed listning during your stay. The bundling idots reporting the news on the other stations made you so much more enjoyable. I pray you stay in Chicago. It is hard to find "THE REAL THING" Lady, " YOU'RE IT". Love and miss you,
