Has the influx of Chicagoans working for the Obama White House brought the Chicago tradition of reserving street parking with lawn furniture during a snow storm to Washington D.C.?
Probably not.
But ...
the Chicago tradition of street parking 'dibs' has made its way to the nation's capitol.![]()
Unlike Mayor Daley, who has historically issued a mayoral OK to folks who mark their freshly shoveled parking spots with junk from their garage, the practice of dibs is illegal in the District.
Here's what D.C. Department of Transportation Director Gabe Klein told a D.C. radio station: ""If we do see that happening, we will ticket the offender."
Good luck with that, buddy.

Dibs should be illegal in Chicago and everywhere else. When does a private citizen have the right to use a public space at their discretion? Can homeless people just camp out at the town hall or police station? Can people park their cars on public roads for as long as they want to. This parking space is public property. It should be managed for the community to provide the most access for the least price that the community and government can afford.
I'll answer the comment from Gary for you Big Konk, Gary it is illegal for people to claim dibs on parking spaces they dig out on public streets its just that the city really doesn't enforce that law
