Some Thanksgiving Leftovers...A Little Of This And That

The Illinois high school basketball season is now in full swing, but it is still early and nothing has really stood out just yet. Therefore, in this blog we offer up small portions of everything, some Thanksgiving leftovers if you will. Included on the plate are our comments on what is happening off the court, observations on what we have seen in the way of Thanksgiving tournaments thus far, as well as a couple of recruiting notes.

Colvin Finally Ends His Recruitment By Selecting Big 12 School

At long last Chris Colvin's recruitment has come to a merciful end. After months of hearsay and rampant speculation, Colvin finally laid everything to rest by announcing his college choice live on a local sports talk show. As a result, he will be playing his college basketball in the Big 12. Illinois Prep Bulls-eye has all of the particulars behind Colvin's decision in this story.

These Five Could Become Attractive Spring Recruiting Options

The top five prospects in Illinois from the class of 2009 who figure to wait until Spring to sign a letter of intent are Marshall's Darius Smith, Whitney Young's Marcus Jordan, Washington's Dyricus Simms-Edwards, Lake Forest Academy's Angus Brandt and North Lawndale's Jonathan Mills. All are pretty much household names throughout recruiting circles. However, there are plenty of remaining unsigned prospects in this class who we think could emerge as mid-major caliber prospects at the very least by the time the Spring signing period rolls around. Considering how often the recruitment of Whitney Young's Chris Colvin has gone back and forth, the bottom line is that at this point nobody really knows when he will announce his college decision. It could be on the last day of the Fall signing period or he could opt to wait until the spring. Either way, what we are about to do is break down our thoughts on what we think the recruiting positives and negatives are should Colvin end up holding out until April or later.
