Sun-Times mortgage rescue fraud coverage

In May, Sandra Guy profiled Shakeela Muhammad, who was caught up in a mortgage rescue fraud deal, in a Friday Homelife cover story titled
SNARED: Two women take a stand when shady company moves in.
Sandra also offered some suggestions for where to get assistance if you get caught up in a scam. She also wrote about a
study
that found women take out subprime mortgages more often than men do.

Divining new places

Today I interview Jon DeVries, Director of the Mrashall Bennett Institute for Real Estate Studies at Roosevelt University in The Right Place. As a consultant to the building industry, DeVries has been a player in building our regional economy.

DeVries is most excited these days about a new initiative to encourage women leaders in Real Estate called The Goldie B. Wolfe Miller: WOMEN LEADERS IN REAL ESTATE INITIATIVE. The initiative is a response to a study by CREW that found the glass ceiling in real estate was as impermeable as in other industries. Ten women -starting out or mid-career - each year will receive stipends, special counseling and mentoring from women leaders in real estate at Roosevelt's real estate school.
