Housing and transportation costs
We ran a story recently about a study by the National Housing Council on housing and transportation costs.
It found that many Chicagoans spend an average of 55% of their income on housing and transportation combined.
Specifically it found that Chicago families with moderate incomes (betweeen $20,000 and $50,000) spend an average of 55 percent of their income on housing (28 percent) and transportation (27 percent).
It found Chicagoans costs were high, but still the lowest of the highest priced 8 metro areas. I'm curious whether these percentages jibe with your experience....
