Father's Day gift guide for golf-crazed man

Father's Day - not to mention my birthday - are coming up. And with the Ryder Cup in Chicago, the golf bug has stung many men throughout the Midwest this summer.

Well, companies that cater to golfers have also stepped up their game, with plenty of innovation and style in an assortment of products. With the exception of a driver, I don't own any of these items, but I'll make sure to send my wife this list.

Moms and children thank me later... Here's a gift guide for your golf-obsessed husband/ father.

GIVE HIM JUICE - What golfer doesn't want more distance off the tee box?

There's plenty of solid options. But, based on my own fitting, I would recommend two: the Taylor Made R11S and the Callaway RAZR Fit.

Bubba Watson's pink, PING G20 is also hot right now but that club didn't make my personal cut, although I'm not averse to pink.

The R11S is very forgiving and there are numerous ways to adjust it, depending on your swing. I like the look but, more important, I like the extra 18 yards I get, on average.

The RAZR is not only powerful and adjustable, Callaway has also made it customizable. In fact, there are 70,000 unique versions of the RAZR Fit Driver.

GIVE HIM CONFIDENCE - Unless your husband/ father belongs to an elite country club, he probably doesn't have a caddy with an encyclopedic memory and feel for a course. So the next best thing would be a rangefinder.

There's a host of options but there are two types that really jumped out at me.

First are the traditional ones, and the Bushnell Tour Z6 and Callaway upro mx+ stood out.

Callaway's unit provides aerial images. Bushnell's is all about accuracy and simplicity. Identify the flag and press a button and get a very accurate reading that even factors in slope.

The second option is a GPS watch.

Garmin, one of the GPS leaders, has the Approach S3. With this watch, you can manually move the pin and keep your score. But this watch retails for $349... yet looks like something you'd pick out of a claw machine.

That's why the Motorola MOTOACTV jumps out - it screams style. Black with red accents, the watch provides yardage, stores music, tracks your score and number of steps, and even receives calls, text messages and notifications.

All for $50 less than the Garmin. And Masters champ Bubba Watson rocks it.

GIVE HIM STROKES - Adrenaline flows, when you're trying to smack a ball from the tee box to the hole in as few stroke as possible. But there's nothing more frustrating then struggling from close range, on the green.

I personally think "Belly" putters should be banned. But, PING has just released an "Adjustable Belly".

It's got a nine-inch range, and it's USGA approved.

If he's frustrated with his current putter, then set him up for a fitting for a new one. Because there's so many good ones, let a professional help him find the perfect one for him. Golf Galaxy has a  putter fitting.

GIVE HIM COMFORT - Assuming he doesn't always spring for a cart, then your husband/ father is going to do quite a bit of walking during the course of a round.

That means his footwear is crucial to his comfort.

I don't have any of these shoes, but they sure stand out to me.

The Adidas Golf SAMBA reminds me of my youth, when I played soccer. The SAMBAs were "must have" among my friends.

These throwback shoes come in six different colors.

I wish I had the Ashworth Cardiff shoes for my upcoming vacation. It would be one less pair of shoes I'd have to pack.

They are functional on the golf course and off of it because their spikeless and sharp.

Finally, you can't go wrong with Tiger's shoes. Nike usually goes all-out for one of their top athletes. The Nike TW13 were just released - fittingly - on the heels of Woods' victory in the Memorial.
