Crutch time for Bears: Here comes Cleveland

| | Comments (51)
Packers Browns Football.jpg

Browns QB Derek Anderson feels the pain during Sunday's 31-3 loss to Green Bay.

If you're a Bears fan who wasted three hours of your life watching the 45-10 debacle Sunday at Cincinnati, you don't need any further rehashing here of how excruciating that ordeal was. Many of you already have vented your spleen on the previous thread, and your criticisms of Lovie Smith and his admittedly embarrassed players were dead-on.

You can read all about it elsewhere on this site: Neil Hayes calls it possibly the worst loss in franchise history, given the hype surrounding Jay Cutler and the fact the Bears were mere one-point underdogs. Mike Mulligan says this could be the death knell of the Bears' Tampa-2 defense. And no one is happier today than former Bears castoff Ced Benson, who rushed for a career-high 189 yards.

The only -- and I mean the only -- ray of light for the Bears (3-3) is that they get a chance to redeem themselves next Sunday against the lowly Cleveland Browns (1-6), who were thumped at home 31-3 Sunday by Green Bay. The impotent Browns had only 139 total yards, a paltry 99 passing by Derek Anderson (who was 12-of-29). You'd think that former Notre Dame quarterback Brady Quinn could do better than that, but he has been exiled to Eric Mangini's bench. Cleveland's only victory was a 6-3 snooze-fest over former Bears coach Dick Jauron's Buffalo Bills.

In an NFL season marred by way too many truly bad teams, the Bears are fortunate to have the Browns coming up Sunday, a Dec. 6 visit by the winless St. Louis Rams (0-7) -- who were buried 42-6 Sunday by the Indianapolis Colts -- and a second date with the Detroit Lions (1-5). Unfortunately, the schedule-makers didn't see fit to set the Bears up with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (0-7), Tennessee Titans (0-6) or Kansas City Chiefs (1-5).

But the Bears' schedule is taking a turn for the worse: Their Nov. 8 home date with Arizona, which seemed winnable given the Cardinals' usual road woes, now looks much more daunting. Arizona (4-2) followed up its road rout of Seattle last week with an even more convincing victory Sunday, 24-17 at the New York Giants. So, what the schedule gives, the schedule also takes away.

Look, the Bears aren't as nearly bad as they looked against the Bengals. Neither are they as good as they looked in beating the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 2. Under Lovie, the Bears usually bounce back after a bad loss. But the reality is that rarely do teams get beat as thoroughly as the Bears did Sunday and still advance to the playoffs. A hard look at the remaining schedule now suggests, at best, an 8-8 record.

OK, you've had a little time to digest this disturbing defeat. What's your revised take on the where the Bears are headed, both this season and in the future?

The worst part of all of it is that we know just as much as the sun rises each day that Lovie and his cavalcade of coaches absolutely will not alter their mindsets one iota. They are either incredibly stubborn or too clueless about alternate ways and means to run a football team (except possibly Dave Toub). This keeps happening while it seems the NFL is evolving past them. All of our ranting is pointless as far as being of any value to the development of the Chicago Bears. We need to study paleontology as dinosaurs shall be the main exhibit at Soldier Field.

We've got Lovie signed for two more years.

Go Blackhawks!

Until Lovie and his precious cover 2 defense are gone the only place the Bears are going is down the toilet.

Really, it didn't even look like the Bears were trying(nor the Bengals for that matter). Did they quit on the coaches? Cinci plays cover 2 'd' as well. Shouldn't we know the weaknesses? Bengals sure knew. The Bengals seemed like they knew
which plays the Bears were running before the Bears Did. You can be predictable, and still be successfull, but you have to execute.
Earl Bennet, and Chris Williams were bright spots. The Bears are
officially a passing team....hard to judge the running game when, you
just go through the motions. How did the Bengals become so good overnight? They have virtually no talent on defense. Something fishy
about this game. Do we expect to lose to the Browns now????
So far, every team the Bears have played have gotten whooped the following week. We have to ask, just how draining was the Falcons game?. I think the butt kicking we got against the Cowboys at home a couple of years ago was worse than this loss. There is still hope this year...especially with an
emotionally stable coach who never waivers. As long as the players have not quit. I think they may have though.

Where to begin?

First off, the Bears came into this game completely unprepared. This falls squarely on the coaches.

Secondly, I'm not normally a pro "Ra-Ra" type of person, but where was the fire? The whole week Benson and company was talking smack! Benson said how the team bad-mouthed him, so what do the Bears do? They let him run all over them and even was kind enough to help him up after he just crammed it down their throats. Way to be a good sport Briggs! And Tommie giving Cedric a big hug after the game, guess what happened wasn't that big a deal at all once you get the big money deal. And let's not forget about Mr. Twitter, Ocho Cinco, who said how he was gonna tear up the Bears secondary, and what do the Bears do? Let him of course! How do you leave their number 1 receiver so open the whole game? Disgusting!!

I have never been so embarrassed to be a Bears fan. Orlando Pace, for such a big guy, is getting pushed backwards 5 yards into the backfield. Let's not forget our other free agent signee Frank Omiyale, who looks terrible. Chris Williams is tied for the league lead in false starts. Great draft pick there Jerry! Look at the good teams (Indi, New England, New York) their QB's can actually stand and plant their feet when passing. Cutler has to always run 6 yards backwards, either evade or step up in pocket just to get a pass off!

As far as the running game, oh man, Forte is DONE. His confidence is shot and he is too hesitant to do anything.

What is up with Olsen? He is a terrible run and pass blocker.

I am so disappointed with this team. I can't believe they fooled me into having them win 11 games. Zero confidence in this team. Time to look into rebuilding around Jay. They will be lucky to go 9-7.

This is how embarrassing yesterday's game was:

I want Babich BACK as d-coordinator!!

So, how many of you still think Marinelli is a d-line genius? It was all smoke and mirrors. The NFL has adjusted and the Bears d-line has returned to mediocrity.

Our "savior" at QB played like he had partied all week long as he celebrated his gift contract from the Bears front office. Thanks for showing your appreciation, Rex... er, uh... I mean, Jay.

Olsen, exactly what does being Jay's BFF mean? We thought it meant you were going to have a breakout season, but it looks like you are breaking the wrong way.

My early call on the Bears-Browns game (aka the Snoozapalooza Bowl): Bears 3 - Browns 2.

I think I've Ced'nuff.

I know Benson surely did.

Havent seen a line yet but if Cleveland got 9 points at home vs. GB, that says they're a 15 pt home fav. Assume GB is 6 pts better than the Bears, can you see laying 9 pts against ANYONE?

Time to ring up my vegas connection again...

Stu,

Since when do the Bears bounce back after a bad loss under Lovie?

What was the loss to Atlanta, a good loss?

Beating Cleveland means nothing, it just pads their record.

Doesn't it say something about what you really think about this Team when you are lamenting that they don't have Tampa, the Titans or the Chiefs on the schedule? Do you think having more patsies on their schedule makes this a better team?

Why would you want the Bears to get into the Play-Offs by beating bad teams? So Lovie and his staff of incompetents can continue coaching? Or is it so the Bears can be blasted in the Play-Offs like yesterday.

As I have been saying for years, the Bears have talent but the Coaching is the worst in the NFL. If you don't believe that then tell me why players leave the Bears and become successful starters on good Teams!!!! Ever heard of Brandon McGowan? How about Chris Harris? How about Kyle Orton? Lovie thought BOTH Rex Grossman and Brian Griese were BETTER than Orton and never gave him a chance until last year.
The Bear's coaching staff is NOT an NFL Quality Coaching Staff!!!!!!
Period end of story. Lovie SUCKS! Ron Turner SUCKS! 0-16 Rod Marinelli SUCKS! Babich really SUCKS!

Refer to my post on the last Blog entry. This Team has plenty of talent but they are doomed until this coaching staff is fired and a REAL NFL Head Coach and Staff is hired. Who cares if they go 8-8 or 6-10. The important thing is Lovie is fired.

And as I did in the last post, I'll issue the challenge:
For all you apologists who are infatuated with Lovie, prove me wrong.

Bring forth some evidence that shows among other things:

1, Prove the Lovie "Tampa 2" which covers no one, gives receivers a 15 yard cushion and stops no one defense is still relevant.

2, Point out players where Lovie has developed and improved their skill sets.

3, Show us how he has been able to make adjustments and react to things like the No Huddle at Atlanta.

4, Prove that Lovie is a great evaluator of talent.

5, Reveal to us all his methods for getting a Team ready to play and tell us how that worked yesterday.

6, Tell us how he REALLY motivates them to perform to the best of their ability, again like yesterday.

7, Tell us why the Bears don't practice tackling and why that is a good thing. Again you might want to refer to yesterday.

8, Enlighten us as to why good Teams have their best Defensive players running at the QB or the line of scrimmage and Lovie has them dropping into coverage so that they can escort opposing players to the endzone and make sure they score.

9, Detail in depth why you think Ron Turner or Bob Babich are good coaches.

10, Give us the game plan for how Lovie is going to turn this all around and suddenly be a good coach.

In the meantime let's all pray that the Bears hire Bill Cowher or Mike Shanahan before they are snapped up by other Teams!!!!!!!!

THE BEARS ARE DEAD UNTIL LOVIE THE LOSER AND STAFF ARE FIRED!!!!!!!

That was probably one of the worst losses I have ever seen from the Bears in a long time. For all the flaws that we have pointed out from the team, it doesn't matter in this case because they didn't seem to care out there. I've never seen a team collectively show no effort at all to play. Whether that's on the coaches or not, I will not say at this time because I refuse to comment on Lovie Smith until AFTER this season is done so that I don't get accused of reacting to Lovie all the time after a loss. However, this loss should speak for itself. Was there even one Bears player who showed any heart or effort out there last night? I guess maybe Devin Hester, but even he fumbled a ball. No, injuries are not an excuse. I don't even care if the talent level is thin in certain areas, but there's no excuse for half-a** effort out there, ever! It was almost like all the players wanted Cedric Benson to run all over them to prove a point to the coaches or the GM! Thank goodness the team is still "only" 3-3 and early enough to turn things around, but it's not looking good right now. All I can say at this point is that Dick Jauron was about to get fired 2 weeks ago while the Bills were treading on a season collapse, but then they reel off 2 wins in a row. Hopefully the Bears can do the same. We'll just have to see.

I still think we are playoff bound and have a dangerous team. But obviously we need to do some fine tuning add some pieces and remove some baggage. Assistant Coaches not withstanding.

The O Line is a joke.
The D Secondary is even funnier.

and we have no big play threats.

Why arent we running Hester long every play? Its not like we are saving him for KickOffs.

TO? Plax? Someone?? Anyone???

well, there was nothing disturbing about this defeat to me....Running around screaming, "I'm Right Again!!"..feels great....but hey, chin up.. I think the bears held Benson to under 100 yards in BOTH half's...Get your Season Tickets Now!!

Jay son Campbell Cutler Fawcett Majors has fallen behind the REAL Campbell Fawcett Majors boy in Washington, btw...

And...The Bengals needed to miss a FG as time expired to beat the Browns, so don't get all relieved .....the bears aren't just going to eliminate the browns and flush...It's gonna be a game....and hey..We might make Brady Quinn's career...we have the team to do it!!

I'm tired of hearing the problems with the Bears is their offensive line. The Offense didn't allow the Bengals to score all those points. The Bears' offensive line is a patch work group. It is only meant to last a year, and they are a middle of the road unit. We do not have the Packer o-line, so stop putting the blame there.

There is only one person to blame for this game: Lovie Smith. If you are the head coach, and the other team can't stop talking. It is your problem to not prepare your team.

At this point, I hope Mrs McCaskey wakes up and cleans house. The best thing we hear about Angelo is the Cutler trade was great because he has no idea what to do with a first round draft pick. How do you keep your job if everyone feels this way?

Stu:

Please try and be consistent. Here's a quote from the your post prior to this one:

I'm calling it Bears 24, Bengals 20. But much like the Atlanta game, this isn't a must-win, considering that Lovie Smith's crew is a road 'dog. The schedule gets more favorable after this, so if the Bears can steal a victory in Cincy, the road to the playoffs is wide open.

Here's a quote from this post:

But the Bears' schedule is taking a turn for the worse: Their Nov. 8 home date with Arizona, which seemed winnable given the Cardinals' usual road woes, now looks much more daunting. Arizona (4-2) followed up its road rout of Seattle last week with an even more convincing victory Sunday, 24-17 at the New York Giants. So, what the schedule gives, the schedule also takes away.

I told everyone here that the Bears were going 5-11 but you all drank the Lovie/Angelo/Cutler Kool-aid.

I knew they had no chance in this game, although it was worse than I thought it would be - but I wasn't surprised at how they played. The surprising thing is how much faith everyone had in Lovie/Angelo/Cutler at the beginning of the season.

Now everyone say it with me, "We were lucky to go to the Superbowl in 2006 and it had nothing to do with Lovie's supposedly competent coaching and Angelo's supposedly competent draft picks/free agent signings".

This sad state of affairs is a direct result of their incompetence and we are going to have to suffer through two more years of this nonsense until they are both gone. Stop being suckers! I was on to these guys after the 2006 Miami game when Grossman should have been benched for good. The first few games of the 2007 season confirmed my feelings.

When (and I won't hold my breath on the McCaskey's actually doing this) we hire a competent GM and competent head coach, things will change. Until then (probably 2011 at the earliest for Lovie, 2013 for Angelo), we are stuck with this dreck.
Stu responds: JohnF, I don't think things are as bad as you describe, but after what we saw in Cincinnati, it's hard to argue at the moment.

and the more I watch this team, the more I understand what Jeremy Shockey was talking about in regards to Bill Parcells a feww years ago...

"And will THE REAL Bears Convention-ers please stand up!?!"

Lovie..all decked out... as a Leather Daddy... when the Bears wear those Orange Jerseys for Halloween....

Then, Stuck can dress up how HE REALLY WANTS TO and can say He went as Lovie this Halloween

and Mark...I already have that tat

Sorry but waiting till Monday has not made the stink from this one go away.
I am not one of those guys who gets all misty eyed over Mike Ditka but look at what we have had to endure since he got the ax.
If you can dump Ditka with his success then why do the Bears cling to coaches like Jauron and Lovie?
Is this situation really that different from the Dick Jauron and John Shoop days (or daze)?
Have a 13-3 season and then stink it up and not make the playoffs for 3 years in a row.
Blame it on injuries and stand around like a deer in the headlights during the games and the post game press conference.
Blurt out some pre-rehearsed babble all week that sounds just like the same muck that you uttered the previous week and the one before that.
Have the team show up for games totally unprepared and then say that you will look at the film of the lose instead of the film for next weeks opponent.
They keep going over the game that is history like there is no game coming up in a few days that they need to be ready for.

We have seen this before and Jerry Angelo is the common thread here.
I gave him some slack after the Cutler deal but enough of this already.
Bad draft picks, player evaluation and player signings are his MO at this point.
Botched coaching hires left and right based on how cheap they come and how grateful they will be once they have the job. It is never about getting the best man for the job and it is all about giving a position to your old fishing buddy.
This has been going on for years now.
Cedric Benson was laughing at them and he did not want to come off the field against the Bears D.
At least Mike Brown would have knocked that smile off his face but instead we get Tommie Harris laughing and shaking hands with this loser after the game.
Nice to see that playing in this ass whipping was more enjoyable for Tommie than it was for us watching at home.

Chris Williams looks like he is going to be nothing special while you passed on players like Joe Flacco, Jeff Otah, Felix Jones, Rashard Mendenhall, Chris Johnson, Eddie Royal and Steve Slaton.
They could have drafted Flacco and held onto Orton as a back up till his contract ran out. Then you would have had your first round picks this year and next to address the O line and that includes replacing that washed up Center who has been living off of reputation for years now.
They have had a revolving door at the safety position for several years.
Tommie Harris is toast but they have to keep him because they gave him a ton of money.
Urlacher is in the same boat as Harris.
What a mess…. and Jerry Angelo is in charge of fixing it.
Yuk!

Hitman --

LOL (Benson getting less than 100 each half)

The Bears are looking and sounding like a repeat (of 2007).

Honestly, though, I think they stand a good chance of landing a BCS berth!

I wonder if Benson is writing a thank you note to JA for getting him out of Chicago?

I mean, Ced owes him that, right?

The browns now have two or threee games to look at to see how to beat the bears. Use the no huddle so the coach and defense can't get their calls in and get set like the atlanta game. And two, use an unbalanced line like the bengals did. No one seems to be discussing this but this completely bollixed lovies gap control line scheme and confused and stymied an already poor pass rush and run defense. The d line and linebackers didn't seem to know how to attack the unbalanced line, Palmer never was touched and benson was able to pick up 5plus yard runs almost at will.

I thought Marinnelli was such a great defensive line coach, didn't he ever coach a team against an unbalanced line? It didn't look like lovie or babich or marinnelli had a clue on how to respond to it, 7 straight scores, that isn't coaching that is self immolation. Of course lovie and company will have the team ready for next week, as long as clevland doesn't do anything unpredictable and try to change their offense to beat the bears.

I sure hope clevland didn't notice all the holes in the bears secondary and how easy it was for the bengals to throw for 8 to 16 yard completions whenever they pleased. Maybe they won't see Ochocinco waving at the qb every time he slipped behind peanut and was wide open. If a team is content to take what the bears defense gives them, slants and soft spots in the zone, any team with a journeyman qb can beat the bears, even cleveland. The key is for the opposing team's coach to be less stubborn than lovie is and that isn't hard to do.

The bears should win easily over Cleveland, forte should be able to run the ball, Cutler should be able to make a few plays. But if Cleveland was watching the last two games the bears could be in trouble again.

That may be the FIRST TIME in my life I've not finished a first half watching the Bears. It was just too nice outside to miss a chance playing 'REAL' football with my grandkids. It was almost like Cincy knew every 'D' formation we were going to throw at them and had the perfect counter; except for the times Peanut and Bowman were not even in the picture during pass completions, of course!

I'll tell you, after watching our ends and linebackers get caught time and time again inside, and Benson constantly running outside the tackles, I knew it was going to be a long day, but when 33 and 35 couldn't stay within an arms reach of the men they were defending; time to fly.

After the first few VANILLA series by Turner, I didn't expect anything in the way of a comeback.

That said, I still hold to my 11-5 prediction, and the play-offs.

Now, where's those grandkids; I know I left them here somewhere?!?!

I wonder if Kyle Orton has sent a thank you note to JA for getting him out of Chicago?

Bears are going to incinerate the BROWNS. They are going to roll up on all the bad teams, but they are not going to the playoffs this year. Division stays as it with the Bears on 3rd place.

People got all over me when I said not much was addressed from last year and that the jury was out on Cutler. Cutler cannot do it all. That man needs at least ONE REAL receiver and not some lucky jokers. Carson Palmer was throwing to a pro-bowler yesterday and that made a difference. And he was protected. Cutler has to sprint backwards before he can stop, turn around and pass - on the run. Its ridiculous. Going to get him hurt, just like AP and Forte are! Wolfe is going to go straight to Northwestern one of these days. Turnovers took a bad game and made it worse. Bears gave away about 21 points. You cannot do that on the road. They were supposed to lose but no where near that badly. Bears Defense has taken a huge step backwards from earlier in the season, but I knew Carson was going to make steak out of the Bears. Ocho and that other guy was going across the middle at will. Not supposed to happen to a Bears Team. Lovie said that much and he was right. We didn't lose in Bears fashion. We lost like the Lions or the Rams and that is just not supposed to happen.

Look Hitman ... you like to throw a lot of crap at the wall, hoping that some of it sticks; so let's not completely forget about your pile of crap Raiders, and all the nonsense that you spewed about how great they would be this year.

You seem to have forgotten how "right" you were about that.

"and Mark...I already have that tat."

Killjoy

KLSS

The Bears should beat the Browns, but I'm not so sure about the torch job.

Also, I'm not sure that very many prognosticators picked the Bengals over the Bears. Certainly not the Tribune's sports writers, who all picked the Bears.

Between the mystery around Tommie Harris' status and the collective rolling of the eyes around Gaines Adams' arrival, some bad vibe is going on with the Bears D. The only team I've seen basically quit this season is the Titans during their slaughter by the Patriots. Yesterday, the Bears D came frighteningly close to that level of disinterest.

Meanwhile, the word is out about the Bears' o-line. Blitz them on the left and run a stunt on the right and you will have at least one d-lineman in Cutler's blow-hole.

The only plus for the Bears is that they will be playing Cleveland. It won't be a pretty sight, but the Bears should prevail.

Early Vegas Line:

Cleveland at Chicago
Favorite - CHI
Point spread - 13½
Over/Under - 40pts

Man.......13½ seems awfully rich! I think the Bears will win, but maybe by 10 points at the most.

The funny thing is, if they lose, we all know absolutely NOTHING will change.....well, maybe it's not so funny........

You know what would be the best thing for the Bears. They lose against the Browns. If that happens then everyone, from the top of the organization to the water boy will need to acknowledge publicly that this team is bad. Anyone think they can turn their season around? Yeah right. Money was wasted on Urlacher, Harris, Vasher, Williams, Pace, Omiyale, Kreutz. They are not even close to being competitive with most teams and forget it if they face the top notch teams. If the owners don't fire Lovie mid season then they should do it and end. We know they won't make the playoffs. They don't have the talent, the will, or the attitude to beat teams. Heck the Detroit was a scare. People that need to shape up or get traded, Harris, Williams, Vasher, Omiyale, Pace, Kruentz, and Urlacher. But why Urlacher, Urlacher is not a force anymore in the middle. He does not have the killer linebacker attitude. Of course, all this is wishful thinking. The Bears will probably win, but what a win, dang its Cleveland. Heck they might even make it the playoffs. Yeah right.

My mile high kyle orton rules pile of crap Raiders have won 3 times as many Superbowls as your 10 Cutler Interceptions below sea level pile of crap Bears..

I just checked that line...my money is now in. Doubling down on my take from the Falcons cover last week. This line is ABSURD

good to see Tommy Harris is on the cedric benson path to wierdness and being bad...then out of town to return to top form with someone else

It looks like Cowher is going to Carolina, but I'm wondering if Shanahan is the answer.

Having lived in Denver back in the 70's I know that the Broncos have always had a better home field advantage than most other NFL teams. It takes a healthy individual almost an entire month to fully acclimate to the altitude, and even well conditioned athletes find themselves gassed by half time if they don't live and train there. My '69 Ford LTD was gasping for air by the time I made it to Denver. The carb needed adjusting to compensate for the lack of oxygen at that altitude.

Back in the late 60's and early 70's there was a professional boxer who lived in either Denver or Albuquerque, I can't remember which. His preference was to fight his bouts on his home turf, where for some odd reason he was nearly unbeatable.

It must have been something in the air, or perhaps something that wasn't.

Bob Foster was the boxer's name. He was a tough light heavyweight champion, out of Albuquerque NM. He aspired to be a heavyweight, and fought Joe Fraizer once for the title, but he only lasted two rounds. His best weight was below 190, and his skinny frame couldn't carry much more than that.

Hitman....
Are you even vaguely aware that the Raiders have not won a Super Bowl since 1983?
Hope you enjoy your trip back to the 70s when the Raiders were relevant because they are the laughing stock of the league in 2009.
You know…. the same 2009 that you predicted that they would be a playoff team.

Shiny helmets impress some people while others actually understand the game.
Shiny Hitman! Look at the shiny!

“Duhhhh….. me like da shiny!”

Seedy, you can call them "The BURNT" because the Bears are going to bring everything they have. They have been publicly emBEARassed. And this is a proud franchise. Folks don't like Lovie's style, but you have to be able to read his face and words. He is on 10 and somebody is going to be the recipient of that anger. And the Bears are at home. They are going to come in Brown, but they are going out Burnt to a crisp. Bears by two or three scores.

Bears lose to the Browns and either Lovie or Turner will be fired.

Sorry Keith but I heard Lovie's press conference yesterday on my way home from work and I am convinced that he is mildly brain damaged at this point.
I thought that Neil Armstrong mumbling, “We gotta throw the ball better” every Sunday on his T.V. show with Johnny Morris was as simple minded as it gets but I was wrong.

Listening to Lovie talk his way out of his latest mess is like trying to listen to Forrest Gump read the phone book while riding the subway.

Phil, Jamarcus took a huge step backwards...so shoot me...he'll be fine, and great news... the Raiders have a better roster than Chicago's....better Coach, too...I can see them improving...

and phil, I don't need a lesson on what the Raiders franchise has done in my lifetime = a heck of a lot more than Chicago...

and for your laughing stock moment....

Jay-son Campbell Cutler Fawcett Majors has 10 picks, 7 fumbles, and an 82 QB rating after 6 games....HURRY!!!!....SIGN HIMMMMMMM!!!!! ...PRO BOWLER, BABY!!!...FRANCHISE!!...

If you just looked at the stats, you'd swear we just signed Rex again..

Keith, I hope Turner loses his playcalling duties. Lovie, grow some cajones, tell JA to pick one of those LB's off the market, put roach and his 235 pound self back at SLB, we are getting run on cuz our LBs are some of the smallest in the league. As someone said the unbalanced line killed us, their "confusing" blitz package confused us. The football being run or thrown in the air confused us. Hell, those Cinn. helmets confused us.
Turner is as predictable as a groundhog on groundhogs day. Either he will throw it or run it, but never...never, never, never, never, never...will he let his qb call the play. He is a power freak, and he needs to be powered down. Everyone can adjust to the bears playbook, but the bears cannot adjust to the other team(this team does not deserve caps.)

In fact, I hope they sign someone to play the middle with guts, and not be out of position, or watching the paint dry. On offense, just blow the line up(jk), seriously if they do not get it together by the end of the season, Garza, and Frank need to go. They are called guards for a reason, not turnstiles.

As of 5:38 P.M., the spread on the Bears game remains at 13 1/2.?.? Strange. My guess is the books don't think Chicago is as bad as it looked, and are fishing. The bait could have easily started closer to the 12 mark. I wouldn't touch it. Grab the OVER.

OK, we all know the coaching staff, 'O' line and corners are all playing well below average, but can someone please tell me WHY Forte looks as tentative as Bambi on ice???

Michaelb is an Anheuser Bush product....yuk...Listen Up...."Miller's made the American way...Born and bred in the USAAAAA.....Just as Proud as the people who are drinkin it todayyyy....Miller's made the American Wayyyyyy....."

and class that is lesson 1 for the football retarded..come back tomorrow for lesson 2 when we learn about the benefits of having a head coach with roid rage symptoms, and an owner with Alzheimers

so what's the Bears excuse, Anonypuss?

Cork, you don't start a sentence with and...you forgot the comma after class (appropriate)...and there is no comma after symptoms...

Still, I'm waitin here at the finish line to give you a hug....

not a bears fan...born in CA originally but thankfully never became a fan of that turd in oakland. good news is jamarcus is joining mendoza fame with his own "Jamarcus line"...

I couldn't read everybody's thoughts but the only thought that I have is when will we get a coach. I don't hate Lovie no I actually think that Lovie is a beautiful human being but as for a coach for my home town "NO" hell no. He and Angelo got exposed last week for the lack of evaluation in Benson. That's the reason they got Cutler so nobody could say that they wasted yet another 1st round pick and getting Adams was a no brainer just think about this Tank was a bad guy right ? Yeah but you haven't heard anything negative since he left the same could be said for Benson. We got rid of Benson for nothing because their feelings were hurt right, well that's all I see just like Harris not starting because Lovie feels disrespected well to tell you the truth I feel disrespected to first nobody talks about Lovie pulling the same thing that Ditka did to break up a dynasty in the making when he got jealous. Well Lovie did the same thing when he got rid of Rivera not because he was going to become a Head Coach no because he went to the Chargers and became the linebackers coach a demotion the later became defensive coordinator they go get a gun slinger then tell him not to show his gun then every game he comes out throwing because he's behind. Well I say fire Lovie and Angelo go get Cowler (he even looks like a bear) go hard after Peppers because we need a stud on defense and try and develope somebody out the draft just my thoughts chisprts 4ever

Anonymous - Excellent point about Ditka! He ran Buddy out of town for NOTHING and it was his undoing, but not a peep about it. Coach this and Coach that! I HATED when Buddy left Chicago! He put together the BEST DEFENSE the NFL ever saw - bar none. Now Rivera was no Buddy, but that was a great observation and I see your point.

Keith:

There were plenty of us who didn't like Ditka running Ryan out of town, and if old man Hallas had still been alive, it never would have happened. Hallas forced Buddy on Da Coach, and neither one of them liked sharing the limelight very much.

But statistically, the Bears defense the following year was even better, although they didn't win a Super Bowl.

5-11 JohnF?

So who will beat us, the Browns, the Rams, or the Lions? LMAO. You lose.

You know, maybe the Bears just aren't that good.

I remember when they finished the 1st Quarter of the season and the majority of the contributors on this blog were crowing about how good the Bears were.

They could just have easily been 1-3 had Jeff Reed not missed those chip shot field goals and Seattle not given the game away (oh, and Forte's fumble at the 1 yd line should never have been reversed, but ultimately turned out to be a harbinger of things to come near the goal line).

So just maybe the Bengals were playing what really should have been a 1-4 team and then the final outcome really isn't so surprising.

Just some food for thought.

It's becoming commonplace to talk about successful Ex-Bears these days, considering all the progress they seem to be making, but much of that reap has as much to do with the systems as anything else.

Our offensive line has come under scrutiny, and rightfully so, but I vividly remember a small Denver offensive line, just a few years back, that had stunning success for years because of their scheme.
Our pass blocking is decent, at best, but the run and screen schemes are bush-league. Also, if you're having trouble in certain areas, don't you rectify it by demanding your strengths, regardless of how few. Marino and Miami beat a stellar '85 defense by attacking it's 1 weakness; for pretty much the WHOLE game. Does anyone out there think you can't call the same play THREE TIMES IN A ROW! Execute, for crying out loud.

I never, once, saw Benson run for the Bears with the tenacity he displayed Sunday. Kudos to him for realizing his money ticket, but he doesn't belong in the Ex-Bear success topic. That's just a case of maturity and necessity.

We ALL know (sportscasters, writers, Monday morning QBs, senior suite occupants, Tibetan Monks) that the Tampa Two is useless without:

1) A menacing rush or blitz package

2) Solid corners

3) Experienced fast linebackers

4) A 1995 offense going against it

After watching Tillman and Bowman get turned up to the top dial in the toaster, I'm not sure Lovie has another option. I just wish he'd mix things up just a little!

There has to be a big running back somewhere out there, filling grocery bags or curing cement, that can help this offense. It's obvious Forte has some issue that's preventing him from being an N.F.L. first teamer.

One constant for the Bears lack of professionalism year after year has to be the play calling. Can we cut this chord first to see if we can at least get a push out of our troops.

Anchors away!!!

AN --

I get your point, but 2 ex-Bears are among the top 5 rushers in the NFL right now. That's two different teams, two different schemes, two different sets of personnel -- yet two success stories.

The likelihood that an NFL team would whiff on two running backs who now place among the top 5 rushers in the league is beyond comprehension. It's even harder to believe it's the Bears when Lovie states that the Bears get off the bus running. I guess he meant it is ex-Bears who get off the bus running.

Btw, Forte now hits holes just like Jones and Benson did when they had no o-line in front of them. Must be time to run him out of town.

Anthony...Cincinnati,as well as several other good teams play cover 2 'd'. The Bengals have a fraction of the talent on 'd'. More or less
a gathering of outcasts from Hitman's correctional facility flag football league. So the only thing your post has going for it...is that the Bears are a 1995 offense, which is about the last time Ron turner enjoyed consistent success. I have also heard that the Bears headphone/system was tapped. They stopped using it in the 2nd quarter..and whala...the Bears had some success. They used it the whole second half though....don't know why...but the Bengals game was a fluke...no matter how you look at it.

Seedy, Jones ran very well with the Bears, they just couldn't go through the childish drama between he and Benson, but the whole offensive outlook behind Turner has been shaky, at best, year after year. Somethings wrong! Even the Superbowl year was filled with defensive and special teams favors.

Stuck, Cincy had one thing we didn't; a pass rush!!! Numero uno key to the Tampa. Didn't hurt that they were up by 28 before the white collars got to their seats, either. Yes, I agree. It was a fluke, which is vouched for by their 13 pt. spread this week.

Hunter going to middle and Jay flipping Turner should turn things around, kinda sorta, maybe, I hope.

I agree with Anthony. A wise man once told me "You Can't Argue with RESULTS". Bears have had consistent results (or lack thereof) from ALL of their backs. Everyone is either hurt or underacheiving???? And putting Cutler behind that thing is like putting Jeff Gordon in a homemade Go Cart!

Hey JohnF...I am really busy with closing deals, can I hire you to do my spreadsheet analysis and some data base management?

You seem to have the clerical skills of a champion.

although you would have to beat out my Virtual Assitant Imran from Pakistan, who takes 5/hr ....who i met on odesk.com
