You make the call: Bears at Seahawks

Seattle's Matt Hasselbeck fractured a rib on this hit by the 49ers' Patrick Willis.

This was supposed to be the killer portion of the Bears' schedule. An 0-3 start seemed an ominous possibility, given an opening-night trip to Green Bay, a home game vs. the Super Bowl champs and a long journey to Seattle. Instead, considering that the Seahawks are banged up and likely to be without their starting quarterback, the Bears have a good shot at being 2-1 when the dust settles Sunday evening, with a home game against lowly Detroit coming up next.

Only two weeks into the season, the schedule already has taken on a different complexion. And a victory in Seattle could go a long way toward putting the Bears into the playoffs.

With wins over the Seahawks and Lions, the Bears would be 3-1 going into a tough two-game road swing at Atlanta and Cincinnati. The Falcons (2-0) are looking as tough as expected, while the Bengals showed they won't be a pushover by upsetting the Packers in Green Bay. The Bears then will have winnable home games against the Browns and Cardinals, but their Nov. 8 game at San Francisco suddenly looks daunting in light of the 2-0 start by Mike Singletary's rejuvenated 49ers.

Winnable home games vs. the Eagles and Rams sandwich a Nov. 29 game at Minnesota, and the Bears should be favored to win three of their last four games (home against the Packers and Vikings, away against the Ravens and Lions). Put it all together, and a victory in Seattle looks like a springboard to an 11-5 or 10-6 finish.

I like the Bears this Sunday, especially after reading the scouting report from Gig, our Great Northwest correspondent here at FCP. As Gig commented on a previous thread, Hasselbeck probably won't play due to a broken rib (the Seahawks may not say for sure until the last minute, forcing the Bears to prepare for him and backup Seneca Wallace, who is a running QB). Gig reports that eight other Seattle starters are expected to be out. "If the Bears don't win this game," he says, "then either Seattle truly has a monumental home-field advantage, the Bears really aren't very good, or a combination of both."

I'm picking the Bears, 31-27. What say you? Post your prediction here, anytime between now and kickoff on Sunday.

Bears by 10. Culzie is right, we should be undefeated. Will be a good test to see if they are playing to their competition. Would love to see the Bears blow somebody completely out like a college score. That's the kind of offensive aggression it takes to dominate. It would take our defense to do that so far. Stu you are right about the Falcons and 49rs. I think we will lose to the Vikings and Eagles also. Everybody else is very beatable. I cannot see us losing more than 5 games. Lovie likes Robbie Gould grind it out victories. I have very little confidence in Ron Turner. But I think Cutler is the real deal and will only improve as the season goes on.

Chat will be here??? Give us the link. I probably won't comment, but I would like to see other posts.

24-14 Bears. Forte will probably get over 100 yards. Hasselbeck isn't playing. Anyone who says otherwise is trying to sell us magic beans and the ones I already have don't work. I think it's going to take the defense a little while to totally figure Wallace out. They are going to be slow learners all season. They might score against us early but we will get ahead and run away with it before we take the usual approach to just run out the clock with about half a quarter left.

Bears should win this game.

Seahawks look like a team that has given up.

Look for Forte to finally get a touchdown and at least 100 yards rushing.

Hopefully Cutler continues to do well and we may even see a couple Olsen touchdowns.

Bears D will be amped up after the T.J. Houshmandzadeh comments,
“I feel like I’m going to get open every play, every time,” “But that’s not going to be the case. Those guys get paid well. I feel I’m going to win regardless, but I have to be realistic. I feel I’m going to win 95 percent of the time and they can get the other 5.”

This coming from a guy who will probably have the great Seneca Wallace throwing to him (ugh).

Final Score Prediction: Bearssss 27 Seadogs 13

Hey, Stu, no way do the Seahawks score that many points. I can go along with the Bears scoring 31 but think that's a bit conservative.I predict a 34-13 Bear victory. The thing that might keep the score lower is if the Bears' running game picks up and they impressively control the clock, which has a good chance of happening. I'm in the mood for a Bear laugher, and this week's game might supply that.

From what I've gathered, 4 Seattle starters will be missing Sundays' game. That in itself is plenty, considering two are on the offensive line (where a 3rd won't be at 100%). If Lovey continues to flood the line and mix up blitz locations, Mr. Wallace will be in for a long day. If Mr. Smith decides to forego his menacing defense for what he may deem a weakened team, we may be in for a long day. I'm a philosopher of the Celtics' Bird, McHale, Johnson, Ainge and Parrish teams; BURY EVERYONE, EVERYDAY!!! There is no room in todays game to pull any punches on any given Sunday, and I hope Softie, I mean Lovie, has the same approach. Teams have enough film of your bltizkreig already; make them execute each and every gameday!

Our offense should feel a reprieve this week, and with that comes a resounding output. Devin and Johnny should have no problem with speed matchups and I, like everyone else, would love to see the running game get into gear. Don't be surprised to see Cutler air it out aplenty though, because you take what is given to you.

Bears-31 Seattle-13

I've been a Seahawk fan since opening day in 1976 and stand by my team through thick and thin. I agree the Bears may win this one, but c'mon! To say that they have given up is ridiculous. Its only week three!

Sure, the Hawks have injuries to 10 starters on both sides of the ball, but I won't make injuries an excuse for our poor showing last week at the Niners. Our backups need to play like professionals and step it up. Playing at Quest will give the team a boost - it's a snakepit for opposing teams, and the Hawks (for whatever reason) seem to play with allot more intensity at home. I think this game will be closer than you Bears fans think, even with Wallace at the helm. An upset isn't out of the question.

I hope Hasselback plays. He'll be terrible with a fractured rib.

Playing on the road is no easy task in the NFL, proven by last weeks victory over the Steelers. Seattle is a tough place to play, despite all the injuries. I predict it is close throughout. 17-14 Bears going into the 4th. Final Score Bears 27 Seahwaks 17.

Bears win 21-13
I think the game won't seem that close, though. After Cutler's first game laying an egg along with the entire offense, I expect the play calls to be modest like against the Steelers, especially while trying to get Forte more carries this game.
I think the Bears will score a TD or two early in the game and spend the last two or three quarters of the game running the ball, eating up the clock.
Seneca Wallace will be mostly ineffective as long as Bears stop the run and Seahawks rely on Wallace and TJ Big Mouth to save them. I see lots of sacks in the second half of this game, or QB hurries and possible interception(s).

Bears would be hard pressed to lose to Seattle's 2's...but to make up for last Sunday's BS...they do

20-17

Bears 24 - Seattle 10

Bears fans are seariously over confident and that's ok. Don't expect the same sloppy play from the Hawks D this week. Cutler is a great QB, but this week he will get Crushed in the pocket. Forte will reach forty, but little more then that. I understand the Bears can bring some heat on D, that's exactly when Seneca will destroy you either with his arm or his legs. Oh Yea, go ahead and stop T.J. by doubling hum, that will single up Burleson, Branch, Carleson, and Butler. Absolutely no doubt this will be a brawl, but don't expect the bears to dominate at Quest, It's not going to happen. Bears 13 - Hawks 17

Seahawk fan, why are you so rational? I think I might have read your entire post. Not used to that..and all ...............that......................reading............................................has made..........................me.........................................slee..................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

Hey hitman,

Simply wishing for a Bear loss doesn't actually insure one; Remember how that worked out for you last week? You were wrong.

If the Bears lose this game it will be devistating. Seatle has 13 players injured or nicked up, with rookies snd subs starting at many key positions.

No excuse for a loss to the Sea Hawks.

Bears 31 Sea Hawks 10

yeah i like the bears hear too...matt forte should get more than 100 yds rushing due to the fact that the seahawks are gonna run that 4-3 defense vs the 3-4, which matt is much more familiar with...and because the other two teams we played were bringing in multiple blitzes, matt was forced to be more of a blocker than a runner, taking his offense out the game....that shouldnt be the case tomorrow...plus cutler is looking like he finally has found his groove...the only thing the bears would really have to worry about, since the bears play a cover 2 defense, is seneca wallace getting loose in the pocket and breaking huge yardage...because believe me, his arm wont be a factor at all...he reminds me of kyle orton, only with more athletic ability...anyway, the seahawks will struggle even if hasselback returns cuz he still wont be 100% if he does return...so the chicago defense should have a field day in this one...

all in all i got the bears winnign this one 24-9....but if hassleback returns i will say 24-17..hassleback will make a difference in the score just because he has the ability to score touchdowns...but he wont be a factor as far as W's and L's are concerned...

I concur with Keith, WRD, Manter, Guns and Ben in Norcal.

The Bears have to win this game if for no other reason than to give us another week without having to hear from Joe "Coward" Cowley.

He's still hiding from Bubba's Mom.

The Bears run the ball well in this game and that sets up Cutler to burn the Seahawks deep not once but several times.
On top of that the Seahawks will be wearing their god awful lime green jerseys that look like the cardboard margarita coasters they throw on the tables at Chili's.
That alone should send another couple of their players to the locker room.

Bears 30
Seahawks 10

....yawn........why is e1 making excuses for the bears win anyway?
I wish all the Seahawks were playing. Jim Mora's teams are so inconsistent....maybe this week they will be good, who knows.
ENOUGH of the wishy-washy BS, who cares who's injured? It has
very little to do with this era's systems and schemes. Just plug
in another robot and....BOOM....you got yourself a millenium style
football team. I don't even think the Patriots even bother with football players anymore. They just hang out in the Home Depot
parking lot and look for people who will listen to Belichek. Blah,
blah, blah, I am going back to sleep...maybe I will be on the right side of the bed next time I awaken. P.S. , even if the Lions don't win
a game this year, they are still better than the worst team to ever field a bunch of losers in the last 50 years......the Raiders. YUCK!

on second thought, Villano.....you're right.....what would this blog be without a shout out to yours truly...

I don't wish the bears to lose, ben..but I won't wear the blue and orange goggles...or the Silver and Black....but of course, the Silver and Black would look way cooler, and I'd be able to wear them with anything...Halter top, banana hammock, pumps, goggles...sittin next to you and Soldier...gettin you on tv....givin you the 15 minutes you deserve, lol..
*takes a bow*

everyone enjoy your Sunday

and stuck...that story about you, villano..and the turf grass??...and how villano tried to make it with the turfgrass??...and how the blades shredded his urethra???....I wanna party with you, mister

Games are won in the trenches. If the Bear linemen are able to hear and survive the first adreneline flow of a under-manned Seahawk team it will be a blowout in the end if the O-line doesn't start to get it together it will be a close game. Hopefully Gaines will get more playing time to help with run blocking Olsen has either whiffed or been stuffed a lot already he is still weak at point of attack and I am still not impressed by the guard on either side and Williams though a good pass-blocker is a average to below average run blocker.
