Sweet Lou: Should he stay or should he go?

Lou Piniella has said he plans to fulfull the remaining year on his contract, but ...

Another easy win Tuesday night in Milwaukee for the Cubs, who are 3-0 since they jettisoned the malingering Milton Bradley. Meaningless games, you say? Not necessarily. If the Cubs finish up the season on a nice roll, it could help ensure the return of Lou Piniella as manager for the final year of his contract, despite the failure to achieve a playoff berth this season.

The big question for Cubs fans: Do you really want to see Lou back in the dugout in 2010?

Mind you, we aren't putting the blame on Piniella for the Cubs' disappointing performance. There are plenty of others who were at fault: Bradley, Kevin Gregg, GM Jim Hendry (for importing Bradley and Gregg), Alfonso Soriano, Carlos Zambrano, the injury-hobbled Aramis Ramirez ... the list goes on and on. But, would the Cubs' cause in 2010 be best served by bringing back a manager who at times this season has acted as though he would rather be almost anyplace else?

The Piniella we've seen with the Cubs bares no resemblance to the fiery manager who won a World Series in Cincinnati (in 1990, which is eons ago) and skippered a talented Seattle team earlier this decade. Lou claims he purposely has mellowed, in order to change with the times. But there's mellow and then there is detached, which Piniella often has appeared during this trying campaign.

Questioned by beat reporters about his plans for next season, Piniella has said that he "plans to fulfill" his contract. That strikes us as a lackluster response, a far cry from something along the lines of, "Hell yes, I'm not going anywhere until they fire me or we win the World Series." Instead, it sounds like code for, "I'll gladly step aside if you pay me what I'm owed for that final season."

We're not asking Lou to rant and rave and kick dirt on the umpires. But we would like to see more of an indication that he truly cares, that he has a burning desire to win another World Series and that he is capable of making things happen with this team. Too often after games, Piniella has seemed resigned to his fate, his standard response being, "Whaddaya want me to do?" when queried about one of his team's failings. Don't just say, "We didn't hit," when the Cubs get shut down yet again; tell us what you are going to do about it.

Lou Piniella still knows his baseball, still knows how to manage a game and get his players (with the obvious exception of Bradley) to respond. But if he's going to be back next season, let's hope he brings fire and passion to the task, and isn't just doing it to pick up the remaining money on his contract.

So, whaddaya want Sweet Lou to do? Do you think Piniella will be back next season, and would that be a good thing? If not, who would you like to see managing the 2010 Cubs?

Well, that's a big "if" with Lou regaining that fire and passion to managing a game. To me, Lou's become too laid back in his managing style. As much as he continues to say that he's the same guy coaching the game today, he just isn't the same manager when he was with the Reds, Mariners and the Devil Rays. He caters and pampers the veteran players on the team way too much now. Where was the Lou Piniella who once rotated 3 closers by committee and would never hesitate to give the quick hook to a bullpen ace on the side when he was struggling? With Kevin Gregg this season, Lou gave him way too many chances to redeem himself and made the proper switch to Marmol too late. Same with Soriano on the hitting side. The season was already lost when the decision was made to pull him out of the leadoff position. And now especially in the press conferences... Lou is dull and he uses the same scripted answers that he's been doing for over 2 seasons now. I still respect the guy as manager, but he also has to go. It's time for changes across the board, but for me, it first starts with the suits at the corporate level and then they work from there. My suggestion to manage the Cubs in 2010? Go young also, like what the Red Sox did when they first hired Terry Francona or when the Angels first hired Mike Scoscia. Go with a young and respected up 'n comer who preferably has played the game before. Mike Girardi would have been the guy for me a couple of years ago, but obviously he's not going away from the Yankees anytime soon.

Who cares? It'll just be another, "Meet the new boss ... same as the old boss" move if they get rid of him.

Truth is, they're pretty much stuck with this roster, and don't have the ability to move anything more than fringe players. The heavy hitters (pun intended) are all locked in to long term contracts, and I don't see any GM out there dumb enough to trade for Soriano, Fukudome, or just about anyone else on their team, unless of course, Hendry gets another job elsewhere.

They have zero flexibility in the off season, and next year will be more of the same.

Except that they'll probably charge more to watch this circus.

Keep Lou, dump Hendry

I love Lou Piniella, but he isn't the same Lou that he was with the Reds and Mariners. Many times this year he looks tired and like he'd rather be anywhere else than managing the Cubs. The Cubs need someone who's got fire and passion and the man they should hire is Larry Bowa.

Bowa is a former Cub who has also coached for Lou Piniella in Seattle. Larry has also been coaching for Joe Torre for the past four seasons with the Yankees and Dodgers. He didn't get the Phillies to the playoffs in his last managerial job, but except for one 80-82 season the Phillies were a contender every year with Bowa.

Larry played with the Cubs from 1982-1985 so he's familiar with the city and history. He was on that great 1984 team and played a big role in mentoring young players like Ryne Sandberg. If anyone could get this team to the World Series and win it, Larry is the man.

It seems that there are Cub fans that want Lou to act like a raving jerk as if that will make him a better manager.
More cheap entertainment for those who believe that the actual baseball is way down on the list of priorities at Wrigley.
"Entertain me!"
They want him to scream and throw bases and kick dirt.
Maybe if the man has a full-blown chest grabber right on the field just for their viewing pleasure then the fans will be happy.
Do you want your boss to act like that?
Do you act like that yourself?

Mike Ditka became a screaming cartoon character and what did that get?

Lou is over-rated as a manager.

He has lost the clubhouse the last two years.

Time to lose him.

Seedy,

You're exactly right about Lou Piniella. They let him walk gladly from the Seattle Mariners because they knew he was overrated, although better than Jerry Manuel in the 2000 playoffs. The one championship he won in Cincinnati was more an aberration and choking from LaRussa and his Oakland A's in 1990. He went to Tampa and showed many that he really needs a certain kind of team in order to manage. Now, he's basically in semi-retirement. Lou has some nice manager qualities even today, but is far from the best.

Lou seems like a different man than the one who had managed other teams. When I saw Lou at a press conference after the Game 1 loss in the NLDS last year, sucking his teeth after a slice of pizza with his cap way up on his head and before Game 2, talking about how it wasn't a crucial loss, I started wondering if a mild form of dementia hadn't set in. Has the team worn him down? Has the pressure to win worn him down? He hasn't been able to keep the malcontents on his team focused and behaving this year. I thought he had bonded with Bradley after coaching him to help his hitting. Where did that lead? And he never was able to get Zambrano to act his age. I thought Lou would be the right guy to manage this team but I was wrong. Will another year without a major team overhaul make a difference? Only a clean break from Hendry, Pinella, and most of the team is needed. If it doesn't work (or in the Cubs case fails miserably) then fix it! I'm willing to wait another 5 years to see a young talented team win.

Lou is definitely not the same manager he used to be. I'm disappointed in how he has catered to veterans and various unwritten rules in baseball this year. His job is to put the team in the best position to win. He has been more concerned about veteran player's feelings more than anything else. He's been very Dusty Baker-esque. For example, when Blanco and Theriot are in the game, Blanco should be the one who is playing shortstop. He kept leaving Soriano in the field late in close games instead of replacing him for defensive purposes. Of course, these moves were done (or not done) to not anger the veteran players involved. The list could go on and on. That said, he is on track to have his third winning season with the team. Who was the last manager to have three straight winning seasons on this team? I think Lou deserves one more chance in his final contract year. I just hope he will treat it like his last chance to win it all and manage accordingly.

I think that as long as the Cubs are such a veteran laden ball club, you stick with a veteran manager.

Now as soon as the Cubs decide that they want to blow everything up (ie. trade Zambrano, Soriano, etc), then you bring in a young manager to grow with all the new pieces.

If not Lou, then who? Alan Trammel? I don't really care either way, however, financially, it would make more sense to keep Milton and
get him a father -figure manager...Andre Dawson? Ryne Sandberg is
waiting in the wings, however, I hear he is a hard -a$$....the
whole make-up of the team would have to change---too expensive. Maybe
Ron Washington? I have never put too much thought into managers, nor
do I care too.

okay, I admit it...this team needs Ozzie, and maybe the Sox need
Lou.......strange trade indeed.

I swear, some of you guys are relentless with the bashing and misinterpretations. When Stu said that he hopes Lou brings back "fire and passion back to the task", that doesn't mean we want him to be a raving lunatic arguing with umpires! What part of Stu's statement that reads "We're not asking Lou to rant and rave and kick dirt on the umpires." don't some of you understand??? Geezuz, can't some of you just for once take a discussion topic seriously instead of the tired comedy acts?? Grow up! I don't know about some of you guys, but there's nothing funny at all with BOTH Cubs and White Sox baseball teams, of which I support and follow, failing to make the playoffs this season and playing terrible down the stretch run! Both teams failed, but both teams have their own separate issues. Please discuss! If not, then that's it for for me on blogging baseball topics in FCP ever again.

We should not forget that baseball is a game. I think all fans occasionally forget that and take everything too seriously. Regarding the topic, I'm definitely in favor of Lou staying and predict that he will stay next year, take the Cubs to the World Series, and bring home the trophy. Everything is in place for that long, long wait to end next year. With my prediction that the Bears will win the Super Bowl this year, I refuse to be depressed about the nature Chicago sports teams. Heck, even the Blackhawks look good for a change.

Come on Edgar.
I can’t tell you how many times I have heard Chicago sports fans talk about “fire and passion” and all of that rah rah crap.
This started with Ditka and him losing his cool or breaking his hand on a locker had absolutely nothing to do with the Bears winning their one Super Bowl but I bet it did have something to do with them not winning another one.
His act grew stale, he wanted to be the center of attention and he lost the team.
No one wants to hear that screaming rambling B.S. and the players are either going to tune you out or rebel against it.
Would you respond to that kind of boss where you work?
I am the supervisor of my department and I have never had to resort to “fire and passion” to get the job done or to get other to do theirs.
These are grown men being paid millions of dollars and some old guy yelling and kicking or clapping his hands for 3 straight hours is not going to get them to play any harder or any better.
There have been plenty of managers and coaches who have been very successful without the hypertension routine so that is not it.
Dusty was supposed to be the savior and the fans loved him for one year.
Then it was his entire fault and he was the cancerous tumor on the Cubs colon.
Lou came in and the team went from 96 loses and a last place finish to a division title and the fans loved him.
Now he is “Just another Dusty”
This is just finger pointing and it does not look at the root of the Cubs century long drought.
Based on your other comments I thought that you knew that already.
The Cubs have not won a title in over 100 years and it is not Dusty Baker and Lou Piniella. Both of them managed other teams to a World Series so what has changed here?

You also need to stop getting all pissy every time someone disagrees with you and write it off as “tired comedy acts”
I did not read comments here that were cracking jokes so what is bothering you?
This is just baseball and the discussion should never be taken all that serious in the first place.
Acting like it is life or death and posting dry monotone comments serves what purpose?
The Internet is full of dull information and opinions so who wants to read more of that?

I agree with stuckinwisconsin. I felt a couple of years ago that Lou should manage the Sox and Ozzie the Cubs. The only thing is Ozzie hates Wrigley Field!

Ditch Piniella. He can't manage anymore unless he has an All Star lineup of everyday players, and former Cy Young winners as his starting five. He bunts his way out of baseball games because he has no clue about baseball strategy. He leaves his starting pitchers and his relief pitchers in the game too long.

Give him the money for the last year of his contract and let him go to Boca Raton where he can sit on the porch of his bungalow and do crossword puzzles.

And then give Ryne Sandberg a shot at managing the team.

He's younger, smarter, rising as an MLB-manager-in-waiting like the star that he is, and he's a Chicago Cub through and through.

He understands. He cares.

And he's the obvious choice.

Jim Hendry will be leaving in the semi-near future, that's for sure. Wally Cleaver would be a better GM. Or Humpty-Dumpty. It doesn't matter who the GM is - they're all suits with checkbooks who do what the owners tell them to do (in most cases).

The manager matters most. So promote Sandberg. Do it now. The alienated Cubs' fans will come back in droves, and it will be nothing but good for the team. Very good in fact.

I am Bob Smith. And I have spoken.

And if anybody with a brain in the Cubs' ownership group is reading this, so it shall be...

he should stay if he wants to...I didn't waste one minute of my life watching that team this year...chokes and wussbags

Should Lou go? Well I'm going to take a page from Milton Bradley. Cub fans do you remember way back when Dusty Baker was managing the Cubs and ALMOST ALL the Cub fans wanted Dusty gone. The team cant field...BLAME DUSTY, the team cant hit...BLAME DUSTY...Sammy Sosa is playing his radio to loud... BLAME DUSTY...that over-rated bum Kerry Wood is hurt again...BLAME DUSTY. I didnt see this sort of behavior with Lou. It is exactly like Obama and the Tea party nuts, when Bush was in office none of these guys said a word when Bush lied every week and took us to war but all of a sudden open there mouths and start complaining when Obama takes office. Cub fans are the same way. Lou is an OVER-RATED MANAGER. What did he really do? Win one World Series by luck and get in a fight with his pitcher and he is a great manager? Did you see him in Seattle or Tampa? He sucked!!! No one talks about his drunk sounding press confrences or his bad baseball decisions. This season is all one guys fault, Milton Bradley? Cub fans deserve this guy. I BELIEVE MILTON BRADLEY because if you just listen to Cub fans its the same sad song from LaTroy Hawkins, Jacque Jones, Cory Patterson and the letters to Dusty. Cub fans act like its Alabama in the 1950's. Besides most of them dont really care anyway as long as the beer is flowing.

Paul, I normally respect your posts on other topics, but right now, please spare me or some of us the lecturing and preaching about this all "just being a game". I'm really not in the mood, especially when we just went through an older blog discussion talking about keeping sports talk in "perspective" and all the holy thou talk from the self-righteous bloggers which even include some of my regular and respected blogging pals in FCP. I'm sorry, but that stuff gets old to me. Of course there are more important things in life than sports! I have a family and a 12-hour a day job that stresses me out as it is and I enjoy the outlet of discussing sports daily or every other day to keep my mind fresh from the real stress in my life. Quit stating the obvious please! Now fine, I'm glad to see someone giving their full support with Lou and suggesting to keep him on board through next season. No one is feeling depressed here, I'm just trying to keep the board from going off tangent (again) and get some real in depth discussion and suggestions on what the Cubs can do to make things better in 2010.

And Phil, I'll say it again, I don't find it funny when both Chicago baseball teams failed miserably this season, but don't mistaken that with me taking things too seriously. I am fully aware of the "more important things" out there in our lives, ok? You said you're tired of all the talk about the "fire and passion" crap, well I'm tired of the Cubs bashers ALWAYS assuming that Cubs fans thinking Lou acting like Billy Martin will improve his managing skills. Who's exactly putting words in people's mouths now, huh Phil?

Oh and by the way, Phil, let me clarify one last time... I don't get pissy when someone disagrees with me on a specific topic. I love and enjoy and I thrive on a good in-depth sports debate with facts and stats if necessary. I encourage it, especially in sports blogs! It's the pointless rants like those from the Hitman, Seedy, Villano sometimes or whoever that offer no substance or answers at all to certain topic discussions at hand are the main items that I get pissy about. If you can't see that, then well, don't think I'm just gonna change my writing ways just to keep people happy.

Can we please stop comparing every manager to Dusty Baker and how Baker was treated? Dusty was released(not fired) because he had consecutive losing seasons including a last place finish.

Since when is losing and being held accountable about race? I don't understand the correlation. If you're the manager of a last place team you should expect to be fired and it wouldn't matter if you're white/black, red, green, etc.

I knew we could count on Mike23 to bring race into the discussion.

WTG Mike!

someone get edgar a tissue...and a jock strap... so he can actually feel what it's like to wear one...

you're gonna have that heart attack way before you should......settle down

you don't know what you're talking about...and your writing style blows

Did someone say race??? You make a good point MJ (Mike23-there is a stereotype for you).....no one seems to be blaming Lou. However, we expected Dusty to provide the Discipline and structure that the organization had not experienced since Leo Durocher. It was a big let down, so of course we put the blame on the person we had faith in the most. That should be a compliment (rich white people having faith in
a black man),as Obama can't accomplish that.
With Lou however, we look at him as more as a seeing eye dog. More
for guidance than leadership. However the team has seemed to devolve to the point where some one like Ozzie is needed.....I don't think
Lou wants to go back to the beginning of the cycle and rebuild. He is retired after all. Nor do I place the blame on him. I do however place the blame on Dusty. Oh, what could have been.
Now if your saying we blame him because he is black, than picture
a middle aged white dude saying " The Cubs didn't win, because Dusty was black." That doesn't even make sense. you seem to be taking
liberties with our opinions. In that case, the blog you want is run by Mary Mitchell.

hitman, come on now. How else would you know about the 'wussbag' part if you didn't "waste one minute of my life watching them this year".
You can admit it, you watched them. Unless.....................

'not a minute of life is wasted when there is a beer in your hand'
-Wrigley Proverb

Burrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrp.
I never wasted a minute of my life posting on this blog either(wink).

I don't expect you to change what you write to make anyone happy Edgar.
I know that I don't.
I personally don't bash the Cubs just because they are the Cubs.
They just offer so many more opportunities for it than the rest of the teams in town.
You are not going to get a whole of comments when the topic is about watching Peavy's first start with the Sox.
It was kind of a yes or no question.
Bradley's latest melt down is going to get opinions.
Asking if Lou should be fired is going to get comments.
The Cubs suck at baseball but they provide drama and comic relief.
Too many Cub fans believe that they don't have to change a thing because they are already "popular"
Being popular is not the goal... unless you are Jan Brady.

If the Cubs were to actually become a whole new team and recreate themselves… to put winning on the front burner and run the team like the successful teams do then that would be something to see.
If they can pry this team from its sorry and for some reason romanticized past then I would give them their respect for changing their culture and direction.
Dallas Green had the right idea but what he was trying to do got lost when Wrigley became the focus.
They have sucked for as long as I can remember and if they built a new park and field a real team without all the stupid Cubbie Wubbies stuff then I would buy a ticket and applaud them for finally doing it right and I am a life long Sox fan.
The Blackhawk’s are a shining example for them and are proof that you can change if you want it.

mike23 - way to double down on the race card!!!

not sure what is sadder - that miltie has him MOMMA speaking for him, or the dopes that write the garbage she has to say.

stuckinwisconsin I didnt really get your post but I guess your a Cub fan that had one too many. Villano I didnt bring up race I'm just stating facts and cub fans get a little angry...did I touch a nerve? I'm not defending Bradley but I also know Cub fans and how they can be on the North side when they get tanked up on Old Style. I knew Bradley was never going to make it with the Cubs knowing how they are. Mary Mitchell...that was funny you sound like a guy who takes commands from Rush limbaugh.

Rush? Street,yes. Limbaugh,no. buhbye

Stu. IT'S BEAR SEASON!!!! WOO HOOO. What's with all this baseball talk anyway? Who cares....At least maybe a Blackhawk topic. Burish is out until...lets see....1,2,3,4,5,,,,,,,,um March! I think. Big Loss?
I don't know, let's talk about anything but baseball. How them Olympics coming? Where will all the hookers go? Will they have their own private beach too? I guess it will be huge for them too. Bculz,
will they honor your punch card when you come into town? Where are u anyway?
Stu responds: Well, Stuck, I guess you're not going to like Thursday's post either, but hey, have to give the Sox equal time .... there's only one more week to go in the season, gotta pick these teams apart while we have a chance. Plenty of Bears to come ... Hawks and Olympics, too.

Mike23, I appreciate where you were trying to go initially but people read between the lines and didn't see the context. You can't put it all on fans. They seem to parrot what they hear from the media. It isn't fans who broached any situation about what was going on in right field. It was the media. It was newsworthy. Or a blatant attempt to start something and make it newsworthy. Basically it took a swipe at fans and then waited for the fall-out. Why ask any of those players if they had had an incident? They knew that there were a few instances and ran with it. The media didn't downplay it and say it was a few isolated incidents. They made it seem like a culture and daily bigotry. Sad either way that they happened at all. I laugh at the newspapers more than I used to because it's gotten predictable. They mock us every other day to sell something. Should Lou be brought back? What brought that on? Just last week it was judgment about Bradley being suspended. Now with him quiet they are going to move onto questioning if Lou has what it takes. Judging him by his response about next year is invalid. Lou's learned enough about the Chicago media to know that they are going to read into anything he says so he says less. Sounds like the Lovie Smith playbook on how to approach the media. Fans get up in arms because he gives an answer bordering on cliche. Cutler did it because he gleaned that book too and got skewered. A guy can say that the sky is blue and the media twist it into him saying his boss is mean but being nice to him today. The older I get the less I'm an advocate of firing guys who didn't win or get to the big show. With Lou and Bradley you were getting two guys who hadn't done much lately. When they got here they weren't recent winners of anything. In fact with Lou it had been a while since he had won a World series. Bradley was actually a journey man who had been on too many teams over the last few years. You don't throw that much money to a journey man with a bad attitude. Lou didn't seek Bradley out but he had to live with what Hendry gave him. Someone said it was roulette getting Bradley and I have to add a little Russian to that with half the chambers full of bullets. Why isn't there a blog about Hendry when Hendry was the main culprit of getting everyone that Lou has to work with. Did I miss that one?

First of all I must have missed something... is Wrigley the only ballpark that sells beer? Are all Sox fans all tea totelers? Don't Sox fans go to the game to have a good time regardless of the outcome of the game? Sure it's nice when your team wins but isn't the point of being there to escape the daily grind, relax and have a good time? Do you Sox fans and other Cub fan bashers realize that you sound like the little kid always claiming momma likes you best? Mike23 if Stuck sounds like a Cub fan that had one too many you sound like a Sox fan that's mad because he wasn't breast fed.

I don't know i Lou lost his fire and passion or if he was just disgusted with some of the hand he was dealt by Hendry...i.e., Bradley, Gregg, Hielman. If I had my bruthers I'd keep Lou one more year and dump Hendry and most of the garbage he brought to Chicago.

Let's get something going- bring in Ryno - he'll always be a crowd fav, and Cub Nation doesn't need to have him begin his managing career elsewhere.....We have new ownership. Let Milton Bradley go,and bring in some new passion by bringing in new .

Okay, Edgar, if I had worked a twelve hour day to feed my family, I'd probably be a bit grumpy too. However, doesn't that make it even more important to keep sports in perspective? You are doing what has to be done, and I suspect you are not getting ten or twelve million a year to do so. Actually though, I apologize. I know I get a bit preachy at times. It comes from fighting with parents of the youth hockey teams I have coached who insist that: "Winning is not the main thing; it's the only thing." Pro sports are of course a completely different thing, but I'm not totally convinced they should be.

"stuckinwisconsin I didnt really get your post but I guess your a Cub fan that had one too many. Villano I didnt bring up race I'm just stating facts and cub fans get a little angry...did I touch a nerve?"

If you had touched a nerve you surely would have felt it. And you didn't bring up race in the same way that Milton Bradley didn't bring it up.

Give me a break.

You read and inject racial overtones into almost everything involving Black players and coaches, and there isn't a card in the deck you like tossing down on the table more than the race card.

It's your fallback position, and you're welcome to your misguided opinion of myself and others, but don't ask me to play along with your persecution complex.

"I know I get a bit preachy at times. It comes from fighting with parents of the youth hockey teams I have coached who insist that: "Winning is not the main thing; it's the only thing." Pro sports are of course a completely different thing, but I'm not totally convinced they should be."

I don't know about that last statement Paul.

If you're putting out top dollar for tickets that pay the multi-million dollar salaries these entertainers/athletes make every year, winning had better be their number one priority.

This is why I don't give my money to the Cubs. I know they have other things that are more important to them than winning.

Good point, Villano. "Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely,"and the same can be said for "big money" and an "absolutely ridiculous" amount of money.

The discussion of this topic is as tired as the topic is. Lou is the best manager the cubs have had in about 50 years, and I don't see anyone better around to replace him with. The way he has juggled and refit the rosters hendry fouled up has been masterful. If you can't appreciate the job Lou does that is too bad. If you just want more juvenile outbursts and temper tantrums, well, we all know where that can be found don't we.

Watchutalkingbout, Willis? I just had to say that. You couldn't have found a better picture to use? C'mon. Can't you influence me a little better than that. If Lou had saved a child running into the street you would've found a picture to convey that. You want us to say that he's crazy? Okay, judging from the picture alone he's crazy. Mission accomplished.
Stu responds: WRD, if we had seen that kind of facial expression from Lou more often this season, I'd feel a lot better about having him back as manager in 2010. He appears determined to fulfill the last year of his contract, despite the fact he often seemed fed up with the job this season. Get ready for one more season of, "Whaddaya want me to do?"

Lou Piniella doesn't command the respect of the players. His days are long gone and left behind in various bars and lounges. His escapades and partying with his former Yankees teammates (Munson and others) has taken its toll on his liver.

He has helped Hendry set the Cubs back five years. Most fans yearn for the Sammy Sosa good times...even with Dusty Baker asleep in the dugout or digging into his teeth thinking about his brother in prison.

Stu,

When do we get the "Should Ozzie Stay or Go" Blog? We won't, because this whole Blog is a joke of an excuse for a few bitter Cub hating White Sox fans to keep puking up the same old nonsense week after week. Just once I would like to read an unbiased intelligent baseball discussion on this blog.

Hey Lou ... you piss and moan even better in print than you do on TV.

I'm jealous.
