For the record: What's your official Bears prediction?

Calling all sages/soothsayers: Peer into the future and tell us how Bears will fare.

OK, the preseason finally is behind us. We've read the various and sundry proclamations from most of us on how we think Jay Cutler and the Bears are going to finish this season. But I liked the suggestion that Anthony made a few posts back: Let's get everyone on the record with their "official" prediction on the Bears, and at the end of the season, we can all look back and clearly see who knew their stuff and who didn't.

So, polish that crystal ball once more, peer into the future and tell us what the Bears' final record will be.

If you're up for it, give us your game-by-game breakdown on how the Bears will arrive at your predicted final mark. Or, if that sounds like too much work, just give us a final record -- but let us know if you think the Bears will win their division, and how they will fare in the playoffs. And if you're so inclined, tell us who you think all the playoffs teams will be in each conference, and give us a Super Bow matchup with predicted champion.

I will compile and record everyone's picks, and at the end of the season, whoever was most "on the money" will be publicly exalted and forever revered in FCP annals.

No less an authority than Mike Ditka has weighed in, and he is picking the Packers to win the NFC North. So, let's get the ball rolling (and yes, I will go first):

NFC Champ.--Bears over Philly

In a tight division race, I see the Bears in first followed by the Packers and Minnesota tied for second.I see the Bears only losing to the Vikings once, the Ravens, and perhaps the Steelers.Other division champs are too close to call, but I think the Vikings and Bears will both be in the play-offs, and that GreenBay will get nosed out for a wild card.
Stu responds: Thanks, Paul, but for the record: What's your predicted Bears record? Sounds like you're saying 13-3.

I predict the Bears will go 11-5 in the 2009 season. Here's how I came to this conclusion:

Wins - all 6 divisional games, Seattle, Cincy, Cleveland, San Francisco and St. Louis

Losses - Pittsburgh, Atlanta, Arizona, Philly and Baltimore

Bears will win the NFC North and will have the #3 seed in the NFC, going into the playoffs. As for the Bears' playoff chances, I've been saying the same thing since early April when the trade was made. SUPER CUTLER! SUPER BOWL!

I'll piggyback on Culzie's prediction and say the Bears and Colts will reunite once again in Miami for Super Bowl XLIV. And this time, the extra V will stand for VICTORY...for DA BEARS!

Bears 9-7 I think Bears struggle early as I don't think they looked exactly ready at the end pf preseason as the receiver corps is shaky and whether or not they straighten up is yet to be determined. The defense has to prove itself yet, especially with Tilman not yet back (and whether or not he is at full strength).
Overall I think they shape up and win a few games, perhaps enough to sneak into the wildcard slot, but they'll likely need the tenth win... perhaps if all goes well they'll get the second game against the Packers at home.

I predict the Packers to win the NFC north. Vikings will initially be strong but all their eggs are in one basket and I think this will be the first season Mr. Favre misses a game due to injury. He will break down this year and may not even play against the Bears at the end of the season... Bears will get 2nd in division and Minn Vikings get 3rd.

10-6. I don't know where that will leave the Bears. My guess is in the Wild Card, where they will win their first playoff game. I look for the Bears to WAIT and improve next season. Its going to take some painful losses for them to get some receivers and get some offensive linemen to protect Cutler and block for Forte. Like I have said many times, I am not sold on the Defense either. Cover 2 smells like number two. Guys up front are sackless (pun intended).

Bears will be 11-5 this year. Vikings 10-6 (on outside looking into the play-offs). Packers 8-8 (they still need to adjust to the 3-4, regardless how they looked in the pre-season). Lions 4-12 (regardless how they looked in the pre-season).

Bears defense is going to be the key, not the offense. The offense will incredible (based on what we have had in the past), but it's still a defense-oriented team. They were embarrassed last year and have something to prove this year. Also, with the Bears playing two 3-4 defenses in the pre-season, that gives them a leg up in knowing how to handle it. They could possibly beat Pittsburgh, but it's iffy.

Bears' record: 11-5

Bears win the North, lose in NFC Championship game.

I just don't trust the Bears defense to be strong enough to win it all this year.

Super Bowl: Eagles over Chargers 31-26

You see Keith ... THIS is where you make absolutely no sense at all.

In one breath you're lauding Lovie's coaching acumen, singing the praises of his so called genius, and in the next breath you're bashing the stupid Cover 2 defense that he is soley responsible for. A failed scheme that he keeps running up the flag pole year after year.

Sorry Keith, but if Smith was as smart as you would have us believe, he'd realize that the barn door closed on the Cover 2 a long time ago, and he'd be making the proper adjustments with both the scheme and the personell.

If the Bears do well this year, and I predict that they will, it will be in spite of Lovie, not because of him.

bears win it all

One more thing Keith:

I'll give you this about Smith; the players really seem to like him, and that's more than can be said about a lot of NFL coaches.

Being liked is not a requirement, nor a barometer of success in this league, but it doesn't hurt. IMO, if the players like a coach, they'll go the extra mile for him, but in Smith's case I don't believe that will be enough to compensate for his feeble play calling skills, along with his atrocious clock management. There's a reason that he just stands there with a vacant look on his face as the game is unraveling right in front of him.

He simply doesn't see it, and wouldn't know what to do if he did.

10-6 and win the division.
Ok... I just noticed that I have the same results as you Stu.
I agree with your playoff teams as well except I really don't know if the Giants are going to the Super Bowl.
Their receivers are no better than the Bears while the Bears have a better QB.
I am not saying that the Bears are going but the Giants are far from being a lock to win the NFC.
Eli is highly overrated and if not for a great catch in the Super Bowl by a guy who is no longer with the team then his career is very much like Rex Grossman’s.
The Bears adding Cutler balances out their offense and takes the heat off of Matt Forte.
Having a RB that can catch and two TEs that are very good takes the pressure off of their WRs and they may surprise us.
I hope so anyway.
If the secondary can get healthy and pull their own weight the D will be ok. Not great but good enough.
A lot of people over look the importance of the special teams and the Bears are still very good in that department. Hopefully Devin Hester will be a factor this season and give them good field position.
The Vikings should have lost to the sorry Lions last year and they were lucky that the Bears gagged on 3 sure wins to hand them the division.
The Packers are almost man for man the same team that finished 6-10 last year. Big deal.

Jerry and Lovie were later picked up prostituting along lake shore drive, and were not available for comment due to uncontrollable puckering of the lips......

I'm just going to go with a final regular season record of 11-5 for the Bears. You just never know about injuries and other unpredictable factors that may come into play like weather conditions, suspensions, etc. At 11-5, that might be a good enough record to win this particular division which will likely go down the wire in December, but not the NFC.

My heart says the Bears will win it all of course, but my head doesn't. I say the Bears will come up short before the NFC Championship game and my Super Bowl predicition: NY Giants vs. New England. New England winning it all again. Welcome back, Tom Brady, in full health (big "if", of course). Sorry, as much as I like the Jay Cutler acquisition, expecting a Super Bowl this season would be too much, too soon.

VILLY - I never said the man cannot coach. He can coach and is a very good one at that. That does not mean he does not have flaws. Everyman has flaws. Now when it comes down to getting down and dirty in the black and blue 8 out of 10 times Lovie is going to come out on top! His record shows that. And with patchwork of talent he gets it done. Lovie gets the most out of his players every year. Flaws and all. But he has a style and plays to his strengths well. I want to see if some of that St. Louis offense has rubbed off on Lovie. If he can coach a top flight QB and produce/orchestrate a sophisticated offensive scheme - then nothing will stop him. Cover 2 fits Lovie's style. Its a conservative defense. To be honest, I don't think he has the talent to properly run it. His ground General is gone (Mike Brown). When healthy Mike Brown ran that attack like he we born to do it. Urlacher held down the middle and Brown held down the corners and Peanut and Vasher held down the secondary and Peanut used to lock down the best talent. He Owned Randy Moss (arguably the best receiver in the game today)!!! YOU COULD NOT RUN ON THE BEARS.

Lovie as a coach and with his style is concerned about possession, management, takeaways, containment, pressure - but not sacks (defensive chaos). His offensive endeavors have always been - RUNNING the football finding the tight ends. Field postion, strategy and trick plays. Smashmouth football. He has never been one for the sexy offense and the proponent of the big play. His idea of a big play is Devin Hester or an interception. The man has his flaws, but a good Coach - the numbers dont lie. When its all said and done he is going to be the best the Bears ever had.

I cannot lie, I believe Marinelli is going to be one of the most important people we have because he does know offense. And if he and Mr. Cutler can bring it together - the sky will be the limit for the Bears. Our offensive coordinator is well - offensive.

Bears' record: 11-5

I don't make game per game predictions. Because we might be cold or the other team might be cold. Injuries always happen to teams in the first few games that change the make up of teams. Still I will predict 11-5. Splitting series with Greenies and Vikies with home wins and a couple losses against NFC/AFC East teams on the road, maybe. I see everyone but one guy picked the Bears to win against Mike Singletary and his 49ers. Is that because Singletary doesn't have stability at QB? He's still a kick ass coach but why is it that only one guy can believe he will out-coach Coach Smith? I don't see the 49ers winning either but we all recognize that a coach has to have a few good players to make Ws appear in certain columns.

at Green Bay Packers = Loss
vs. Pittsburgh Steelers = Loss
at Seattle Seahawks = Win
vs. Detroit Lions = Win
at Atlanta Falcons = Loss
at Cincinnati Bengals = Win
vs. Cleveland Browns = Win
vs. Arizona Cardinals = Loss
at San Francisco 49ers = Loss
vs. Philadelphia Eagles = Loss
at Minnesota Vikings = Loss
vs. St. Louis Rams = Win
vs. Green Bay Packers = Loss
at Baltimore Ravens = Loss
vs. Minnesota Vikings = Loss
at Detroit Lions = Loss

That's 5-11...assuming my 49ers and Lions(away) losses, which is probably overly pessimistic. If you toss those back into the win column, 7-9 at best.

Please Bears fans, put down the Cutler Kool-Aid, or you are in for a very disappointing season.....this is not the 2005/6 Bears defense. Also, Pace will break down at some point and Cutler is gonna be running for his life after that.....

Slow start because the receivers and Cutler are not on the same page until after the break.

Bears win the division at 11-5 with home field due to win over Eagles, Vikings finish 10-6 with Green Bay 8-8 and Detroit 3-13.

Playoff teams NFC
Carolina 10-6
Atlanta 9-7
Arizona 9-7
Philly 11-5
Minnesota 10-6

Minnesota wins the wildcard against Arizona and Carolina beats Atlanta.

Minnesota comes to Chicago and loses to Chicago in a slug fest 17-14 and Phill beats Carolina in Philly.

Philly vs Bears for NFC championship in bad conditions. Special teams touchdown and great Bears defense against the run stops Philly with a Bears winning score of 21-10.

Superbowl pits Indianapolis vs Bears and Chicago gets revenge with a strong running and passing attack, great D and special teams that again scores a TD.

Bears win the Superbowl 27-17 with two fourth quarter touchdowns.

City of Chicago goes crazy turning over cars with debauchery in the streets and starting the city on fire similar to the old story

I See 11-5, early in the season STEELERS will give them a problem on the road, the packers are trying a new defence and will struggle after that it all depends on how healthy the bears are as well as the teams they are playing. the NFL is all about how healthy you are and the team your playing. no major injurys and the bears could go 13-3

As the 'self-proclaimed' Bearstradamus. I picked the Bears to go 9-7 last year on CLTV's Sports Page's 'Bears Pre-season Special". And, I said a late December loss will knock them out of the playoffs. My prediction beat out Dan Pompei, Hub Arkush, and Lou Canellis

This year, before I make my game predictions, I'll predict the following for each player:

Greg Olsen - best year receiving and blocking, earns a trip to the Pro Bowl.

Jay Cutler - will live up to his billing as a franchise QB and break a lot of Bears passing records (including most INTs), only to be sidelined 2 games after one of Orlando Pace's 'lookout' blocks leaves him with an injured knee (Caleb Hanie will fill in successfully and manage the team 2-0 record in Cutler's absence)

Devin Hester - will return to glory as a return man, but, his receving numbers will be down due to the emergences of Olsen and Earl Bennett

Olando Pace - will miss portions of the year with injury and will be replaced for most of the saeon at LT by Chris Williams.

Brain Urlacher - wil stay healthy and get himmself back into the Pro Bowl as will Lance Briggs.

Tommie Harris - will only play in 60% of the snaps and will miss 6 games with injury or for rest.

Nathan Vasher - will only see time as a replacement at corner, only to continally get beat after 10 yards and plummet to last string on the depth charts.

according to that pencil-neck Clayton, the Bears have the weakest schedule???? I definitely don't see it that way.I suppose you can come
up with stats to prove anything. Anybody else think that the Bears have a weak schedule? Will Jay Cutler really make a difference??
I think It really depends on Gilbert and Pisa.....this is the first
time ever that I am rooting for two teams...Texans and da Bears.....
what do you think the Texans will do?..especially if Rex starts...right
now Schaub is kinda injured....Gooooooooooo REXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX....goooooooooooooooooo Bearz. As a typical Bears fan, I don't see them losing at all. 16-0 all the way.
Stu responds: Stuck, I guess it's only easy if you look at last year's records. But the Packers and Vikings figure to be much tougher, and even the Lions will be better than 0-16. The Bears also play both Super Bowl teams, so it's not a schedule that I would call easy.

Ok I've read ya'lls predictions and as a rule I don't delve into the practice of predicting the future but I'm gonna go out on a limb here. The Bears will win a few and lose a few. If everyone stays healthy they'll win more than they lose and make the play-offs AND if they don't lose in the play-offs they'll be SB champs. Beyond that my crystal ball is cloudy, the Ouija board said Chicago sports confuse the hell out of it, the tarot cards keep sticking together so they're useless and I never did trust that damn 8 ball.
Ok gonna call aunt Minerva Laveaux down on the bayou and see what she can do about Hitman's black and silver heart in the meantime.

There is no true Bear fan who would predict a loss to Green Bay. Ever.

I say 9-7 and I hope I'm wrong.

Okay, Stu, let's call it thirteen and three. I'll also go with Tennessee as the A.F.C. champ playing the Bears in the Super Bowl , with the Bears winning 17-13.

Da Koolaid is flowing again, my friends. Someone rip that fake mustache from Da Coach. Like that new cheese head wearing fool, I'm out of here!

I see the Bears going 11-5 at best but 10-6 is not out of the question. I will stick with 11-5 though.

After a rough start, the Bears will finish strong hopefully winning the NFC North. They will win the 1st playoff game but will not make it past the NFC championship game unless it is played in Soldier Field, then we have a chance.
