Fountain of youth for Favre?

Brett Favre gets up after making an illegal crackback block Monday against Houston.

Who was that broken-down old-timer making a nasty, illegal crackback block Monday night? Sports-talk radio in Chicago was abuzz Tuesday with accusations that 39-year-old Brett Favre is a dirty player for taking out the knees of Texans cornerback and former Illini star Eugene Wilson during the Vikings' 17-10 preseason win.

Favre, who inexplicably was lined up wide in the wildcat formation on the third-quarter play, said he was trying to protect rookie Percy Harvin, who took the snap. Wilson was injured, but afterward said he was OK. He did have one question for the venerable Vikings quarterback: "What was up with that?" Wilson asked. "Seriously, what was up with that?"

What, indeed, is up with Favre, who seemed dumbfounded by what he'd done to Wilson. "I will be 40 years old in October and [was] weed-eating 13 days ago,'' Favre told reporters. "I wasn't thinking about throwing blocks."

The controversial play obscured what was a respectable effort by Favre, who played younger than his years in just his second game back from his most recent retirement. Favre, who told ESPN before the game that he thought he had a cracked rib, played three quarters and completed 13 of 18 attempts for 142 yards. His best effort of the night came when he handed the ball off to Adrian Peterson, who scampered 75 yards for a touchdown on the game's first play from scrimmage. Minnesota's next three drives ended with punts, but just before halftime, Favre hooked up with Chester Taylor on a 28-yard catch-and-run TD.

Favre basically managed the game, avoiding mistakes and letting the Vikings' running game and defense dominate. His QB rating was an impressive 113.7. As for whether he will play in the Vikings' preseason finale Friday, Favre said, "It's up to [coach] Brad [Childress], but I've always been an advocate for playing. But it depends on how I feel [Tuesday], with that block I didn't help myself out at all. But I'll probably rest."

Say what you will about Favre, but if he stays healthy (and that's a major "if'), he will give the Vikings the kind of steady play that was lacking with Tarvaris Jackson at the helm. Interestingly, Sports Illustrated picks the Bears to win the NFC North in their NFL Preview issue this week.

If I had to put a bet down today, I'd go with the Vikings ... with both teams making the playoffs. Has Favre's performance so far surprised or impressed you, and based on what you've seen of Jay Cutler the last two games, do you agree with SI that the Bears should be the division favorite?

As a Packers fan I have to say if Favre stays healthy the Vikings win the division.

By the way, you belittle Favre’s night by saying "his best effort of the night came when he handed the ball off to Adrian Peterson."

His “best effort” was actually three, and none were handing off to Peterson: (1) his management of the 2-minute drill before halftime, which (2) led to a touchdown pass, as well as (3) the earlier beautiful pass he threw to Harvin in the corner of the end zone that Harvin should have caught for a second TD, but the Vikes had to settle for a field goal.

Not bad for a guy who had been on the team 12 days.

Suddenly, the once woebegone NFC North has become a potential powerhouse. Explain to us Stu, how you're able to leave the hated Packers out of the mix. They've looked quite impressive from what I've seen in the pre-season, and that's really all we have to go on at this juncture.

Too bad Vick plays in the NFC East, because it's going to be a real dog fight here in the heartland. I wouldn'r be surprised if the Bears, Packers, and Vikings split all of their games with each other.

If this happens, it's just possible that a 9/7 record could win a very close division race, and the victor would be the toughest 9/7 playoff opponent since ... let's see ... The Arizona Cardinals!
Stu responds: You're right, Villano, the Pack looks tough as well.

What will impress me is if Favre plays all 16 games of the regular season. As for the SI prediction that the Bears will win their division, didn't SI give that kiss of death also to the Cubs?
All the stats on paper don't mean jack when any important componant of the team is sidelined.

I honestly do NOT think the Bears should be projected to win anything. We don't have a proven Offensive line. Our Quarterback is NEW (give him some time people). Bad O-line means a mediocre running game and chances our QB will be sacked a lot. Our playcaller is still Ron Turner right? Terrible. And we don't have proven receivers. And Lovie is still the conservative head coach. The only proven offense we have is Robbie Gould. And our best return guy is catching passes. And for the first time ever we don't have a solid back-up Quarterback and quite frankly we just might need him. I have been quiet on this but we are setting ourselves up for a big letdown. And I haven't even gotten on the Defensive line which is old and hardly ever gets pressure. When we prove that any Quarterback won't be able to put up Marino-esque numbers on our defense, then I will be more impressed. When we actually get more sacks, hurt some people and get off the field quicker then I will be impressed. No-name QB's were putting together 90yard drives on us last year. I remain unimpressed. And I love the Bears, but they are unproven. Angelo looks eerily like Paxson/Gar: he has a box-office show pony and very little else.

Vikings were better than the Bears last year and now they have a pro bowl quarterback. They have the #1 running game in the league. That means they have a splendid Offensive Line, who will be blocking for Farve. They also have a great Defensive line and a physical secondary.

Greenbay has a QB who is proven. They also had a better record than us last year. They are flying quietly under the radar. Thank goodness Lovie owns them.

What impresses me about Favre is his game management and toughness. He has taken some serious hits already and keeps on going, which shouldn't be a surprise for a guy who has 269 consecutive starts.

Thought this was of interest www.twincities.com/vikings/ci_13248665

Really, if people are going to start critiquing players from preaseason games, then I'm going to call out the next person that says that NFL preseason games are "meaningless". Once again, Favre excelling in a preseason game doesn't impress me. We'll see what happens once the regular season starts and opposing teams play a LOT more serious. Pretty sad that I've seen almost as much Favre blog posts in the last month as the White Sox exclusively. And some of us wonder why the guy acts like a prima donna craving for attention.

Nice! Not another Favre hater! Just honest, fact-based reporting! Shocking!

I'm certain Brett didn't do it on purpose or mean to hurt the guy. That's really not his style AT ALL. In fact, that's one thing that will get him riled up, when people intentionally try to hurt each other. I've seen him take off after some guy for hammering his receivers illegally. Is Wilson hurt badly? I see it says, he was hurt, but there are NO details whatsoever that I can find. How "hurt" is "hurt"? It felt better 15 min. later?

Well, at least the media got a real good excuse to hammer on Favre, as they like to do so much, and then get people to comment on their articles, thus clicking on their site, by self-servingly stirring up as much nonsense as possible. What would they do without Favre? Recognize their own obscurity?

I'm sure Favre will be fined appropriately. It may be the first time he's ever been fined. What IS important is whether Wilson is or will be okay. Would you mind reporting on that relevant news, lol?

Regarding Favre's block the blame should rest squarely on the coaches who put their 40 year old "missing piece" of the Super Bowl puzzle out there to begin with. I'll bet you can find a number of videos of Favre making the exact same block legally on a number of players . . . How you ask is that block legal??? The block is perfectly legal if Favre had started out in the backfield instead of split wide. Normally when he's thrown the block in the past it's after a reverse and his sprint out after the initial handoff put him outsid . . . then as the reverse took shape and players start back in his direction the positions of players and the actual block look almost identical to what occurred Monday. I'm sure it wasn't intential & I'm sure Favre wasn't coached on the difference in the 13 days he was there. Bottom line - dumb call & coaching.

Keith: we won 9 gms last year and GB won 6. I do agree with you though that everyone's gettin carried away with all the preseason 'excitement'. But I don't think we're gonna be outta the mix, I think we're gonna be ok. I know we're fielding the same D from last year but I don't think they'll see the field as much this year and that'll do nothin but help.

As for Fav-re, I can't wait to face him and the vikes. Bottom line: we protect the ball better. He throws picks(we will throw some too) and AP fumbles(Forte simply doesn't). He's(Favre's) gonna help us in more ways than just giving us the ball. The real beef this year is gonna be between him and his old squad. Also, too much has been made about how great GB looks during preseason. Can't wait for the 13th.
Stu responds: I just saw Peter King's full NFL preview on SI.com and he has the Bears going to the Super Bowl (losing to the Patriots)! He loves the NFC North, with the Bears winning the division and the Vikings and Packers both getting wild-card berths (he has the Bears beating Packers in NFC Championship Game).

let the Favre envy begin...

SI is still a magazine, huh?..

lmao...how does a team win a division at 6-10?

SI has the answer!!!...Subscribe Today!!!

I think the division will be the Packers. the Bears have an aging defense, a questionable offensive line and the third worst set of receivers in the division.

It will be a shoot out between the Pack and the Vikings.

one thing to say to ted THANK YOU

Keith:

You're morphing into Hitman. Here's a news flash for you; Cutler doesn't like getting sacked, and he's pretty good at avoiding them. Look it up. Cutler can actually move, whereas Rex and Kyle played like their feet were glued to the turf.

No proven back-up QB? Really? We had three of them last year, so I guess you've been spoiled.

I see your evil twin has made yet another revision to his forcast. Last I checked Hitman had them winning three games after having predicted earlier that they'd win four. Now he's got them up to six.
Stay tuned folks ... after we trounce Green Bay, he'll have them going undefeated.

And I thought my first two wives were fickle.

On a different football tangent:

I just read an article in the Times about NFL jersey sales, and how Farve is leading Cutler. The interesting thing was the mention that Urlacher's and Hester's jerseys had dropped in sales from the previous year.

This isn't puzzling at all. There is only a finite number of suckers who feel compelled to purchase clothing that idolizes a particular player or team, allowing themselves to be gouged in the process. Darwin's theory of Natural Selection dictates that their ranks will remain somewhat limited. (the collective gene pool can only tolerate so much foolishness)

That being the case, it is reasonable to assume that if one of these dolts already owns an Urlacher jersey, it's highly doubtful that he or she would run out to the store each and every year in search of a new one, unless of course they gained a lot of weight.

It's kinda like Rubic's Cube. Once everyone who wants one has one, there's nobody left to sell them to.

the only way you 'don't do it on purpose' is if you accidentally fall-that's why it's illegal!!!! I don't get the morons who say he didn't do it on purpose. YES HE DID. He didn't accidentally fall.
Do you know anything at all about football? When you do something
like #4 did, then you get your a## kicked. Plain and simple. Wilson's
"what's up with that?" should of been directed towards his teammates.
what a terrible effort from a terrible person. The Vikings are gonna
be terrible anyway. With their two roid boys transforming into blobs
of fat, they won't be able to stop any running whatsoever. Their Oline
is for run blocking not passing. They can not pass. Period. They will
continue to be a one dimensional team. Adrian Peterson will be used
up or injured by the middle of the year. They blew their chance with
one of the great running backs. Demise is eminent.

Mark, I loved your take on jersey sales. That was spot on. Plus getting Favre's jersey is just a novelty. Next year he might go to another team and they'll have a complete set of 5 jerseys. Since no other hall of famer played for 5 different teams that will make his jerseys a thing for collectors. And Keith, Culzie is going to love this; what is wrong with you? Why are you doubting the Bears? Why are you saying that our line isn't better? Don't you see that feet-of-clay QBs do not help linemen? What's wrong man? They run out of kool-aid on the south-side? Can't find even one 2 quart pack for under 2 dollars at those corner stores? Now you see why I moved from the south side. Don't let what you've seen dictate how we will be. Coach Smith has been around long enough to not show our hand. I haven't seen any stunts or much of anything complicated because we don't want our worst enemies seeing our best. I really think that Green Bay is showing everything because with Favre being back in the division they want their own fans to see something positive. If they played vanilla their fans would be up in arms and calling out everyone. They want that support and they will have it with fans saying how great they look. We will see. And Favre won't last the season. He is always in pain. It could be an act but I doubt it. 40 years old is old in the NFL. He's not 40 working at Barnes and Knoble. He has 300 pound linemen falling on him. And smashing him into the turf. He doesn't avoid them like he used to. He doesn't make them miss or bounce off them anymore. He's like that piece of carpet at your doorway. He's what you see when you are establishing what you're going to do in your house. He's worn out and won't last. He didn't last last year. What makes you think another 300 days has been different. He's even older. Where did he get hurt last year? Everyone pin-points where they are hurt. Everytime Mcmahon got hurt we knew where it came from. When Theisman got hurt we saw that. When other QBs got hurt we saw them. Where in 2008 did Favre get hurt? He didn't get hurt on any one play he just wore out his shoulder playing the game and didn't even get surgery to repair it properly. He got scotch & duct tape. His biggest lie was that he was weed wacking 13 days ago and didn't know that he would be playing. Liar! He knew when he was practicing with 16 years-olds at that high school. He knew when his family bought up hotel rooms in Green Bay in June for the game when the Vikings were scheduled to play. He knew that that play was illegal and was showboating as always. Seems like he hurt himself worse. Those bruises were just a few more to go along with the regular season bruises he won't be able to play thru.

you know Villano, I was going to rip on one of your earlier posts, but
your post on the Jerseys was very good(except the Rubicks cube over explanation), causing me to read your posts
in a different light. It may not matter to you, but to me, there is one less person in FCP to be hostile towards.

well Villano, when you look at the schedule...look at the RDE's Pace will have to deal with...then...look at the QB's and the WR's our porous defensive backfield will be up against...and then take into effect dabears can't stop the run... and stuck, the Williams Wall will be back and ready by the time dabears play Minny...

anyway...I said 7-9 at best...probably 6-10 is more like it....key on Forte and the TE's...make the WR's beat 'em....

I title this season..."Bubble gum and Paperclips"

Tom Cable will get more out of the Raiders...ok, so I went on a thin limb that's about to snap with DaRaidahs going to the show....

so what...I don't get butt hurt...you guys ought to try it

it's funny but unbecoming

get ready for more Favre nightmares....you should be use to 'em, tho

and get ready for some real football guys runnin the show next year...I'll pump my fist with the rest of ya's

Thanks WRD, and Stuckinminnesota.

And Hitman, you either have amnesia or alzheimers. You clearly laid out the schedule, game by game in a previous post, and I clearly saw that you had them penciled in for three wins. Now it's six or seven, huh?

As far as Farve is concerned, what's his record against the Bears in the last four years?

Did I hear 2 and 6?

Yeah ... I'll take all I can get of that.

Gentlemen - I am on the bandwagon. Nobody wants the Bears to win more than me! I see the Bears winning 9 or 10 games and this is my FIRST prediction. I didn't go on record like Hitman. But we need guys like him to keep us grounded. His predictions are like gas prices - slowly on the rise, and thats good. I hope we go 16-0!

Yall need to go back to the archives and read some of your post season comments. I have a hard time seeing a QB changing all of that, and especially so quickly. Cutler is in trouble. This has the words "over-hyped" and "disappointment" written all over it. Since the days of Walter Payton, I have watched like everyone else. Walter, Michael, the 85 Bears and the 90's Bulls have really did a number on ALL of us. It was like our first hit of crack! And we have all been looking for that first hit ever since. Waiting and waiting. And for the first time since Sid Luckman we have a BONEFIDE can't miss QB!!! I know its exciting and I am as hopeful anyone else to do my Superbowl Shuffle. But the realist in me will not believe that we have come all the way with just one signing. Its just not possible. Somebody tell me how Cutler fixes all of these problems:

O-LINE - OLD, Kruetz fumbled exchanges, QB hurt every year, RB have been mediocre here but great on other teams (see Thomas Jones), Offense 3-out too much, RON TURNER (speaks for itself), No deep threat, No bonefide studs, LOVIE is Mr. Conservative (he can't change his stripes overnight), and did I mention no insurance plan if Cutler gets hurt - which is LIKELY. Cutler is not Fran Tarkenton or dare I say it - Michael Vick, but that line will have him on the move or on his back.

D-LINE - almost worst pass rush in NFL, Almost no sacks, Not great since Mike Brown, Corners beat up, Nobody great up front, some of the worst QBs put up career numbers every week. On the field too long. COVER 2 is weak.

Villano loved the post on the jerseys and the earlier comment about your first 2 wives was priceless.
WRD if Culzie doesn't comment on your last post it will be because he laughed himself into the hospital. This I know because I think I've got a hernia from laughing when I read it. But seriously dude you have got to give Keith a little compasion after all he hasn't been the same since his dream team of Eddy Curry and Zach Randolph coached by Issaiah fell way short of his NBA "Ship" prediction. You know a disappointment like that can cause a man to come up a few fries short of a Happy Meal for awhile. In the meantime Keith try drinking the "Cubbie" blue kool aid, it keeps you optimistic all the way up until the magic number reads "wait 'til next year".

When you're in the league for, what, 17 or so years, AND you're the QB, you damn well have seen enough calls against your linemen and recievers for crackback blocks. Now, being 40, a wounded QB, and at a wideout position needing to throw a block, I think a brain cramp became the better part of valor in Bretts' decision on his block. I don't think he realized the situation until it was over.

Peter King; oh yea, I know Peter King! We had a disagreement recently on his back-up QB ratings. He had Caleb Hanie DEAD LAST. NOT!!! I gave him an earful, whether or not he even cared. I also responded on the Bears being picked to make it to the SB.

If our defensive line does not pressure the QB this year, it will be hard enough to win our division, let alone make it to the big game. Our QB is going to make our offensive line productive, and that alone gives me some comfort; but Tommy Harris needs to return to form, and the linebacking corp has to be better also for us to have our chances.

I disagree with your inception of the Vikings ahead of the Bears and Packers. Matter of fact, if you judge each starting team, as is, the Pack would be my pick. We have too many key defensive players still on the mend and the Vikes could be a roller coaster team if their defensive line takes a hit, via suspension or injury, and Favre is NOT going to last on that surface!

I watched GB destroy us last year, only to have an injury to their offensive line and an inconsistant QB totally reverse the season.

I like the Bears chances, big time; but then again, I LOVE Chicago weather.

jeezuz Villano...I've said 6-10 and 7-9 at best way before I went down the schedule and rosters...and so I came with 3 wins...every fruit has his day...and in a 16 game season..even teams with our deficiencies can surprise a team or two...hence...6-10

my name is Hitman and I have someone whose name sounds like a freaking cookie tryin to sweat me??

Sorry Villano...dabears are 6-10...and Denver trades that high first rounder back to us...Virginia guns down Jerry w/a 12 gauge and the kick shoots her wheelchair backwards....and takes out the rest of the staff like bowling pins...

I have dreams

make fun of the Silver and Black and their 3 Lombardeeznuts all ya want...you wouldn't do it in the black hole and you know it

last fake day of football season, Gentlemen

The crack-back block is a major cheap shot no matter who throws it. I do not like Favre, have never liked Favre, and will never like Favre in the future. He would be the first to scream foul if someone hit him with a crack-back. I said earlier that I doubt he'll last five games. When he wakes up the day after a game and cannot walk, he'll decide to retire again. The only thing I like when I watch him play is when he throws another interception to add to his record in that category. I actually think the Vikings would be a better team without him and do hope he continues, so the Bear defense can bury him in the turf a few times. i'm sure to get attacked here by the Favre lovers because he is doubtless a Hall of Fame shoo-in and has clearly shown how tough he is, but I still intensely dislike him.

I dont even need to chime in. Mark, WRD and Tim have the Bears back enough.

The only thing that annoys me about Keith right now, is that I wonder how he would be acting if Orton was QB. He would be all over the Bears right now. He would be booking his Superbowl tickets in Miami, he would be seriously pouring Blue and Orange kool-aid out of second story windows...on unsuspecting passers by. Thats what is so annoying. Its the mere fact that Keith just like to stick to his guns over and above the clear and obvious truth.

We have a stud RB a Stud QB a Stud Return Man a Stud Linebacking core and a Stud Coach who is just now finding himself in the NFL. Look I realize Lovie is on the hot seat. But he is our guy right now, and we need to support him 100%. Not act like Raiders Fans in sheepish Bearskin clothing!

As for Hitman...seriously dude...pick a number and stick with it. You should take a lesson from your boy KTLSS. At least he sticks with his story to the end.

Oooh, hitman. Theh black hole! I bet he wouldn't make fun of the Raiders in the black hole! Oh the black hole! -This is your typical raiders fan's favorite aspect of their team. The fact that your typical raiders fan in the 'black hole!' didn't quite make through elementary school, hence they resort to physical violence with complete strangers over something like, for example, not rooting for the Raiders.

Many Raiders fans are quite proud of this ignorance and won't be afraid to make it known to non-Raiders fans. It doesn't have to do with anything as silly as say, as actual football. The fans say this cause it's all they got, they know the Raiders are weak and have been the west coast equivalent of the Lions for the last couple years now.

Hitman, what if, and I just mean for the sake of what if, say the Bears win one or both of their first two games? What if they win ten or eleven games this year? I'm not a big prediction type of guy and who knows maybe they'll win 6 like you say, er seven, er three, or whatever. But I'm just sayin what kinda tune will you be whistlin' if them Bears are winning? I have a feeling you would not be happy as you always seem to wish doom upon my beloved Bears.

Hitman, as much as you say it, I don't believe your a Bears fan. They never do anything right by your standards. But the Raiders, at 5 wins they can do no wrong. That Tom Cable, he'll get more outta them than Lovie will the Bears(You still haven't explained to me what you mean by that), even if he has to beat it outta them as if they were an asst coach.

Sorry for the book I just wrote, but everyone needs to take a breather and get over this whole preseason thing. It's not real, just a tease. Can't wait for the real stuff. And hitman, keep the posts coming as I do enjoy reading yours, even though you over-punctuate...(see I can do it too), and they come accross sounding like messed up poems or haiku's or something. I know your a good guy but take it easy on them Bears is all I'm sayin.

I dunno culz..I wouldn't call the linebackers 'studs'. Briggs is
waaaaaayyyyyyyyyy over rated. I can't believe how many of the 'tv' people are saying that Urlacher's career has been rejuvenated when
the season hasn't even started yet(mostly Collinsworth garbage). The
only bright spot is Pisa. There is a reason why Forte was picked in
the 300th round. We will find out soon enough. Cutler still has no one to throw too....except the other team- and hell, Rex could have
done that.Your post does not bring the excitement I was expecting.
Villano-say something.

Stuck sez: "Villano-say something."

I can't talk right now. I'm busy shopping on-line for a Rex Grossman jersey, but I can't find any.

Maybe Culzie will give me one of his. My wife is a tailor, and she could shorten the sleeves for me.

Culzie - good post first of all. But I agree with Stuck - STUD is a big word for Forte and for many of our players. We have really one two bonefide studs and that is Robbie Gould and Hester (as a return guy and only because he proved himself in preseason) They are among the BEST at what they do. Everyone else has something to prove - including Urlacher, Vasher, Tilman, Kruetz, et al.

And nobody is happier for LOVIE than me. He is another guy that sticks to his guns! When everyone was all over him like cheap clothing last year I pointed to his record. Lovie can coach, but he is unproven in the the big offense game. He is a black and blue guy. Do you really think Orton is to blame for everything that went wrong last year?

That being said - If Cutler proves to have the goods, I think the Bears will win 9-10 games. But if all of the other ifs fall into place they are going to the Superbowl. Now all those ifs make them and iffy team. Once proven - I will be glad to be the hype machine for the Bears! I will turn State's evidence and roll on Hitman in a heartbeat.

Bears have made very few changes in some of these areas. Go back and look at where they ranked last year. And Ron Turner is AWFUL.

Keith, what would your prediction this year have been with Orton at QB...all other things remaining the same?

The Vikings are gonna be terrible and Briggs is overrated? 300th round? No wonder you folks are STUCK; you haven't a clue!

Will someboby please get the spatula!!!

With Orton I would have given them probably a 7-8 games. And they would have been different kinds of wins. Cutler is going to win some of the games with the skills he has and so would Orton. With Cutler I think there will be a learning curve - especially since we don't know what a passing game IS. And we don't have any receivers. Passing game is extremely hard and rare on a lot of teams. But the Bears have nothing to look back to and noone on our staff EXCEPT Cutler who knows what a top notch offense looks like. Thats something that takes many people to develop. Orton on the other hand would have had two tight ends that he was comfortable with. And his game is tailored for Lovie and his system. With Orton we weren't going anywhere except maybe the first round and out. With Cutler the sky is the limit - but its going to take time. Cutler is not an engine that you can just drop in a car and hit the gas. What he is good at will take time and talent. We don't have proven receivers. Like having an AK47 and no clips. And the guy who is holding the gun - is only good with knives.

Keith:

I don't know what team you've been watching these past two years, but Lovie has done nothing but spin his little Cover 2 wheels.

Everybody in the league knows exactly what the Bears are going to do on defense, and if that isn't bad enough, they don't even do it very well. His inability to game plan, and implement half time adjustments has been well documented.

In fact, if I were to make a comparison, I'd put him in the team photo with that other wet noodle, Dick Juron. The only difference is his color.

And Robbie Gould isn't a stud by any definition of the word. A stud is that rare guy who can kick field goals from 60 yards out. Gould is consistent ... but a stud?

Not in my world.

And one more thing, Keith:

If anyone has proven himself to be a stud it's Cutler. A player who can hoist up almost 5,000 passing yards with a team who's defense couldn't get off the stinkin' field is money.

And anyone who can't see that is, in the words of the great WRD, myopic.

Stop making me laugh ,Mark. Keith I don't mean to gang up on you but you are just a tad bit negative with the Bears. I can see taking a 'wait and see' approach, but in all actuality, you've taken a 'wait, You will be see that they are bad' approach. It's one thing to have a little proof in what you are seeing it's another to use the past as a barometer to what will happen. I see that you bringing the past too often into the equation. I know that we've had a bad history with QBs but I think we are out of the woods with that. Cutler is a very rare find. And we've got him. Our luck isn't going to run out just because. That's what wrong. You are looking at it like there is some kind of luck involved. You are a man of faith and religion but you bring that human thought process in and it clouds it for you. You don't keep the faith as much as you should. Ask yourself why that happens. One guy is super negative and doesn't even seem to be a Bear fan and he gets you to see things his way. Every single team has fans that believe in them. Even Detroit had fans who thought last year would end in them being in the Super Bowl. It wasn't because they believed it would happen that it didn't. They lost all those games because of the negative drain that losing takes out of you. Talent goes a long way. And this team has more talent than you give them credit for and they believe in their ability to win. You saw them on the sideline having fun and loose. That's what starts a winning attitude. It doesn't start with expecting to lose.

Exactly Villy...and I think Keith, you are talking about your learning curve....cause, it wont take me long to realize I loves me some Real Quarterbacking.

Limp Noodle is right, except, you shoulda been talking about Ortons throwing arm.

I love my FCP peeps. William you know um down for the cause, but I also have to keep it real. I can only have Faith in the Lord. I root for the Bears, but I am trying to keep it within reason. Remember I am a SOXFAN who refused to go to the games until the owner went out and spent some money. I rooted for Orton and REX and Griese and all of those jokers. And will root for Bassinet if he gets in, but I have to keep it real. Truth is none of yall will be cheering louder than me! But I have to see some things before I start singing "We are the Bears shuffling crew".

Mark/Culzie - that is YOUR definition of a stud and its very Chicagoan. For me a Stud is one of the BEST at their position. Robbie Gould is the BEST or one of the best kickers in the game. Hester is one of the best return men in NFL history. Urlacher USED to be one of the best MLBs. Tommie Harris USED to be one of the best. Now you can argue that muscles and other measurements, but getting the JOB done is my measurement. Cutler is not Joe Montana, and even if he was nobody is that good that they can switch teams and the one they go to has no receivers and still be that effective the first season. Bears got a lot of the pieces. Cubs had all the peices but look what happened to them? Nothing wrong with being hyped up, but I am just asking - WHY? Maybe um just missing it. But Cutler hasnt done NOTHING that makes me believe he is going to make all of our problems disappear.

I call those people Stars, not Studs.

A stud in my opinion, is someone who is just heads and shoulders better than the rest of those in his position.

I am in 3 Fantasy leagues, and have taken part in like 10 Mock Drafts and in NONE OF THOSE DRAFTS did Forte get taken anything less than 3rd. and thats out of the ENTIRE NFL.

Maybe your the only one who doesnt think he is a stud, but Forte has the rest of the world paying attention.

Culzie - Devin Hester has the world paying attention. Adrian Peterson - on the Vikings - has the world paying attention. Those are studs. 1000 yards is nice like Mr. Rodgers putting on his shoes and buttoning his sweater.

As a piano player, I think Forte is aptly named. He may not be a stud, but he surely must get people's attention in crescendo-like fashion.
