Last chance for "official" Bears prediction

Four FCP experts like Devin Hester's Bears to beat the Colts in a Super Bowl rematch.

Yes, there's still time to post your "official" prediction on how the Bears will fare in 2009. As of 11 p.m. Wednesday, we had 33 respondents, with nearly one-third of them (10) forecasting an 11-5 finish. Curiously, four of our experts foresee a Super Bowl XLI rematch against the Indianapolis Colts in which the Bears this time come out on top.

You can make a prediction that counts "for the record" right up until kickoff of tonight's NFL regular-season opener between the Steelers and Titans. Either post your predictions here or on Tuesday's blog entry. Just need your predicted final Bears record (and, if you're so inclined, give us your game-by-game picks and also who you like to win the Super Bowl ... if you've already made your Bears prediction, you can still give us a Super Bowl pick).

I will compile all the picks and, at the end of the season, whoever was most "on the money" will be exalted and forever glorified in FCP annals.

FYI, here's a rundown of what we have so far (grouped by predicted Bears record, with Super Bowl winners if provided):

Hitman, I can see the Vikings as possible if Favre decides to call it quits again before the season is over, but Oakland? Surely you jest.

Bill Simmons wrote the following today for ESPN:

"Days before the start of another putrid Raiders season, Al Davis mixed things up by trading his 2011 No. 1 pick for New England's Richard Seymour, then pooping in the fridge and eating a whole wheel of cheese. The Raiders' fans weren't even mad; they thought it was amazing."

That just about says it all.

Hey Stu, even though we are missing the Pit Vipress, I would hope you bring back the headline thingy Roman use to do for the Bears Games.
thanks in advance.

Stu,
I'm sure you realized this by now, but you guys got absolutely owned today on your Michael Jordan coverage by the Tribune. Your guys' effort was very weak and half-assed, while the Tribune really put a lot of time into it and went very in depth. Everyone I've talked to agrees with me.

I said 11-5 with us and a big gallon of orange/blue kool-aide against the Steelers. Bears prevailing 23-20 in the Super Bowl.

Bears should go 10-6, they have tougher games than most think. GB, MIN, and DET all improved. The Packers have an easier schedual, MIN has a little tougher one. Bears will win the DIV or at least get the Wild Card, 9 wins last year, now with Cutler and an improved O-Line they should be better. The D-Line will either be the same or a little better than last year, and if Bowman is healthy the secondary will actually be a little better. Thats not saying a lot but I figure the defense to be average again like last year. They should still be good against the run and with Adams starting they may be even better. Adams and Harrison will eventually be the starters, Harris won't hold up but he was not very good last year so the bears are not missing much.

The Bears are setup to start out slow but finish strong, once it gets cold, people won't be able to pass as much against them. With TE's and a RB who can all catch the ball the Bears look to have a very good cold weather team. Cutler can also scramble, Bears will be in second or third going into the final 5 games where they should go 4 out of 5. If they loose more than 1 though they will be out of it.

Put me down for 7-9

come on...nobody wants to go for the Marinelli?

0-16 anyone?

Yo Hitman!

After we drub the Packers Sunday night, and your beloved Raiders stink up the field on MNF, I predict that you'll go into hiding again.

We'll all miss you. (like a dog misses fleas)

Stu, I was so disappointed with the article Neil Hayes wrote today. If you see what he wrote and looked at Bigg's blog he sound just like one of those guys. He repeats verbatim what they always talk about. He even used the phrase "his buddy Babich" and said that "he ran off Rivera" when Rivera was so busy applying for head coaching jobs every chance he got. Even during our playoff runs. That was just lazy journalism. I hope you guys didn't pay him for that. He even brought up the grounds crew for the park district. That was a blog last week end. No wonder fans can't think for themselves. They have the media acting just like them and sounding just like them. Are you sure he isn't one of the main bloggers over there? He should be paid for every original idea he came up with. And looking at that article I saw nothing original.
Stu responds: WRD, as a general columnist, Hayes' role is to weigh in with an opinion on the reporting done by Biggs and others. In this case, he happens to agree on many of the issues (Rivera, the grounds crew). Rivera wasn't let go because he looked for other jobs; he wasn't Lovie's guy all along and he knew it. Lovie wanted the defense run his way, and since Babich hasn't had much success trying to make that happen, Lovie is taking charge of the unit personally this season. It will be interesting to see how the defense responds against the Packers.

There was a reason that Rivera butted heads with Lovie about the implimentation of his precious Cover II defense; it didn't work very well.

Rivera continually tried to mix it up, and throw different looks at opposing teams, but Lovie likes to keep it simple. There's a saying about the futility of doing the same thing over and over again, no matter that it never works, in the empty hope that eventually it will if you just keep hammering away.

Lovie should buy this T-shirt:

well villano...maybe you ought to sit Rodgers this week in your FF League then, big fella

Dom Capers with your kicked in the teeth bagel?....and the schmear?....Sunday night?

I'll bet many of you have seen it, but just in case you haven't try going to You Tube and type "Hitler Upset Vikings Sign Brett Favre."

It's hysterical, especially if you're a Bears fan.

Associated Press

ALAMEDA, Calif. -- The Oakland Raiders sold out their season opener in time for the game to be broadcast on local television.

The Raiders received a 24-hour extension to avoid a local blackout and announced the sellout for Monday night's game against San Diego on Saturday.

Director of Media Relations, Charles Manson, informed the press that an unknown patron using the alias "Hitman" coughed up the money for the 3,281 unsold seats in order to avoid the blackout.

Sources say the he plans to fill the empty seats with Rex Grossman dolls dressed in Kyle Orton jerseys. His only worry seems to be the possibility of Al Davis signing one of the dolls to a long term contract.

7-9

Bears will finish 3rd in NFC-North. Cutler alone will not help the team with so-so receivers and a suspect O-line. With Urlacher out for the rest of the season, the defense loses a leader and will be weak in the center.
