Broncos fans give Jay Cutler a rude welcome Sunday upon his return to Denver.
OK, so the Broncos fans got to have their fun: They razzed Jay Cutler and let the new Bears quarterback know just how offended they are that he engineered his exit out of Denver. The loud, vociferous booing seemed to rattle Cutler at first, but after he got a chance to settle in, he gave the crowd a taste of what they're going to be missing without him lining up behind center. And it was a beautiful sight for Bears fans.
Cutler played the entire first half and finished a nifty 15-for-21 for 144 yards (6.9 avg) with no interceptions and a touchdown pass to Matt Forte, which capped a 12-play, 98-yard march that consumed 5:07 at the end of the half. He threw two strikes to favorite target Greg Olsen on the drive and showed great pocket presence all night, averting a first-quarter safety by sidestepping an onrushing defender in the end zone and getting rid of the ball.
Meanwhile, Kyle Orton -- a good soldier who gave his all when he played for the Bears, but has the misfortune of having to fill Cutler's shoes in Denver -- was a respectable 12-of-17 for 96 yards (5.6 avg) before injuring the index finger on his throwing hand and having to retire for the night with about five minutes left in the first half. He and Cutler at least managed to make this overly hyped practice game compelling for two quarters.
(BTW, what was your take on NBC's new broadcast combo of Al Michaels and Cris Collinsworth? I've always admired Collinsworth's studio work, and I wasn't a huge fan of John Madden during his final years. But Michaels and Madden did offer a pleasing contrast, and I wonder if Collinsworth might be a little too polished -- a little too much like his partner -- to be a good fit. Everyone in the NBC booth did seem to be in agreement that Denver was nuts to let Cutler go, and that the Bears are incredibly fortunate to have landed him.)
So what do we take from this, Cutler's third preseason outing (and the one that serves as the "dress rehearsal," since he is unlikely to play more than a quarter in Thursday's preseason finale)? Well, keep in mind that the Broncos are a bad team with a porous defense. It was troubling to see future Hall of Fame tackle Orlando Pace get beaten badly by blitzing linebacker Elvis Dumervil. And none of the Bears' suspect wide receivers stepped up, leading us to fear that Cutler's talents will be under-utilized this season because there won't be anybody open (other than Olsen and Forte). Opponents with solid cornerbacks are going to lock down the likes of Devin Hester, Earl Bennett and whoever else lines up outside.
But that's being unnecessarily negative, right? The most important thing is that, the more we watch Jay Cutler, the more evident it becomes that the Bears -- at long last -- have a franchise quarterback who is going to make them a Super Bowl contender for years to come.
Josh needs to call Lovie for advise.
Lovie could teach him how to say, "Kyle is our quarterback." in a semi-comatose monotone, and with a straight face.

Attention all FCP bloggers:
If your given name is Brandon, there's a job waiting for you in Denver.
*Brandon is our quarterback*
Orton deserves better, Denver deserves better. I didn't realize that
McDaniels brought over 9 patriots with him. You have to worry about
the mindset of someone who needs that many of his own people to feel
comfortable. Denver is going to be really, really bad. Seriously,
this is like an adult film director trying to get some credibility
for their story line.
You would expect someone who doesn't have any experience at all,
at anything in life, to just go to a city and decimate the
culture, players, and style of play of an organization. One could
just pluck anybody off the street and accomplish the same thing.
One would think that a NFL coach would have some kind of grasp
on reality, however this seems like a spoiled kid is getting a chance
from his father to run his daddy's business, without any fear of consequences. Poor Denver. What goes around, comes around. After all,
you 'stole' John Elway.
At least we still have Al Michaels. Chris Collinsworth is almost the
worst ever, however Joe Buck still lives. I don't know where one
would think that Collinsworth is too polished. After all,he can't
come to terms with the fact that the Broncos traded Cutler. Get over it. Every 2 minutes he said something like 'they shouldn't have
traded Cutler." That is not what we expect from well rounded, polished
, media literate professionals. Plus, he acts like he was some kind of
super hero when he played. He is very patronizing.
One Half does not a Bears season Make...but one Half...for Denver...a Season did Break (or should I say..got sliced)!!
I'm back guys, although I'm sure some of you didn't even realize I was gone for 2 weeks LOL. I enjoyed my trip back to the Chi-town area even though the Cubs game I had tickets for was rained out and I was hoping my grand daughter would be born while I was up there but as luck would have it my daughter-in-law went into labor when I was about an hour from home and my grand daughter made her entry into the ral world at 1:30 this morning.
Now as far as last nihgts game goes, unfortunately I only got to see the about the last 5 minutes of the third quarter and the fourth so I missed Cutler's show. What I did see or more acurately hear though I was not impressed with the Micheals/Collingsworth team. The entire fourth quarter(and I realize this was a pre-season game and was basically over by then) they all but ignored what was going on down on the field and discussed every Tom, Dick and Harry involved in trades, team disputes and ofcourse Michael Vick and Tony Dungee. I realize they have to fill in time discussing something other than the game othyerwise there would be a lot of dead air time BUT just because it's the second teams that are on the field doesn't mean you ignore the game. It would have been nice to hear some analysis of some of the players still trying to make the squad instead of the role Dungee played in the Vick drama. I always thought Al Michaels went off on tangents too often as it was and now he has some one in Collingsworth that will stroll down that path with him. I'd sooner raise Howard Cosell from the grave and listen to his inane comments of some obscure play that hapopened 50 years ago than listen to Al Michaels. At least John Madden put some emotion into his comments. Sorry but Al Michaels ranks a close second to Bill Walton as sports casters I least want to hear open their mouth.
I thought Cutler and the Bears O played well. I also thought Orton played well.
The concern, at least to me, still is the Bears D. It was the problem child last year and, if not for the Denver O-line consistently wracking up penalties in the first two quarters to nullify big gains, continues to look porous.
Orlando Pace looked out of shape and vulnerable to a speed rusher. Let's see... Green Bay and the Steelers each have a good to outstanding speed rusher. We better help Pace out or Cutler will be wearing his spine as a tie by the start of the 3rd game of the season.
I wasn't all that impressed with the Bears. We have some very good Tight Ends, but we knew that. Will it really be that hard to focus on BFF Gregg Olsen??? Offensive line did not impress me. Cutler will need them to find these receivers and so will Forte. I rate the line by THEIR progress. I know it still preseason. But with no receivers or running game, we still look too lean, but it still too early.
I also didn't like with the booth started wandering away from the game. Make your comments about one of the two teams on the field.
I totally agree with you about Pace, Stu. I hope he loosens up and can bend lower to block those shorter guys. I missed Madden, but Collinsworth did a good job. I never particularly cared for Michaels and still think he has no place as a football announcer. He simply does not understand or love the game. As far as other problems go, I disagree with you about the receivers not stepping up. They all looked good, and that makes the problem of whom to cut a tougher decision to make. The Knox and Iglesias catches were things of beauty. I still did not see an adequate and consistent pass rush. The defensive line looked very good at times but need to press the passer. A more mobile quarterback than Orton would have made them pay for that lack of pressure. The penalty they got for roughing the passer was one of the few times they got to him and was not deserved. Collinsworth pointed that out very nicely.
Stu responds: Paul, you're right about those nice catches by Knox and Iglesias, but they came in the fourth quarter against a second-team defense. Are those guys going to be able to get open for Cutler against first-string cornerbacks? I have my doubts. They are young and it will be some time before they become dependable NFL receivers.
well, Forte is not Tomlinson...Olsen is not Gates...and Cutler is not Rivers...and the Bears aren't nearly the team San Diego is...ask Ron Rivera..you know..the 'real' coach who was sent packing
and how about that O Line!!!...Paperclips and bubblegum flying everywhere...
and Collinsworth is a turd and always has been....I muted the game as soon as I saw his sorry face
and after Green Bay and Pittsburgh backhand the Bears...get back with me
Tim, first of all, congratulations "Grandpa." Secondly, I agree about that broadcast last night although it was the second half of a preseason game. Nevertheless, it was actually more entertaining for a fan of neither team to watch! Still, they had to talk about things that few people gave a rip about even to the point of having the camera squarely on them while a play was in progress as if they were interviewing the president.
Is it me or does Josh McDaniel look like he could easily double as a towel boy? Just observing him in action and reaction, I can't help but return to those moments when Jay Cutler had his feelings hurt when McDaniel was seeking the services of Matt Cassel. Understand that I'm not completely excusing Cutler's character here, but if I were 26, after what I had done for the Denver Broncos and owning the talent that could very well bring me further, I believe I would have had my feelings hurt and harbored some resentment. My point is the more I observe McDaniel and return to that situation, the more forgiving I am of Jay Cutler and I think I just might get to that point eventually if I were a Broncos fan.
I can't say that I'm a Collinsworth fan, but I think his ongoing statements alluding to Jay Cutler's departure were warranted based on the fact that nobody ever gets rid of a franchise quarterback. The Denver Broncos botched that one and will forever regret it. Here's Jay Cutler vs. Kyle Orton encapsulated: Kyle, third and 18...the play is designed so that Kyle doesn't lollipop the ball downfield to get intercepted...the plan was to punt. Jay, third and a short one, threads the needle 25 yards to a tight end with a laser beam. That's nutshell difference between these two quarterbacks.
You ever try to get your kids attention while they're watching their favorite cartoon; or the wifes, during the most intricate moment of a girly movie? That's me watching a football game. I don't give two hoots what the color is talking about most of the time. If a stat sneeks in, it might catch my attention, but I'm all eyes.
As for the game, we looked a little shaky with our backs to the goal line, and I hope Turner gives Cutler a better shake next time. Yea, Paces' blocking started off slow, but I think Dumervils speed and leverage surprised him. He adjusted. The running game looked mediocre, at best, but Cutler adjusts to blitzes and missed blocks as well as anyone I've seen in a while, so the passing game should have a good season, WR's or no WR's. The ball control was a welcome addition. Just ask the defense.
The jury is still out on the defense; the line still needs more push, and the secondary needs playing time, but our offense is one tall posession reciever away from being very good.
Green Bay looks tough, but anything can happen.
Hey, Jay fell into our laps.!.
Quarterback play was okay on both sides, but than again this was still a pre-season game.
It was nice to see Devin Hester for once stop acting like he is allergic to punt returns.
If Hester continues to give the Bears good field position, Cutler's job is made that much easier.
Maybe the announcers simply thought the rest of a preseason game without the main two quarterbacks not playing, realized there is nothing else to talk about. Think about it? The game was built up with hype and the Denver fans really got into it in the first quarter. After half-time there was not much to talk about except for what was happening around the league.
In this city, when the wide receivers catch all the passes, "sports journalists" complain that the Bears don't use the running backs and tight ends enough like a "modern offense" does. This was the case ten years ago. Now, when we have killer pass-catching running backs and tight ends, the "sports journalists" complain about the wide receivers.
Chicago is so lame...
"Sports journalists" in this city will always be losers even when an actual Chicago team delivers the occassional winner.
The Bears O-Line played like garbage, Williams and Pace got abused by Reid and Dumervil. The WR's where all but invisible, and Payne, Steltz, and McBride let recievers get behind them all night. Oh and the open field tackling continues to suck.
I guess I have not watched enough of the national games to notice this before, but did it bother anyone else that the flag indicator on the screen flipped to yellow after every single play? How annoying! Unless there was a flag on the field, that section would flip yellow and then show some website. Each play I thought there was a penalty. I hope that gets cut before the season starts!
I was impressed with both quarterbacks and their ability to move the ball. Unfortuantely for Denver, the offensive penalties tended to stall their offensive momentum. The only concern I have for the bears this year is what has plagued them in the past. Will their defense be able to play the entire game? Without strong pressure on the opponent's QB, the Bears have had a problem keeping opponents from marching down the field late in the game.
Pace did seem to have some trouble at first, but Cutler was not sacked and didn't have many rushed passes, so I'd say it was a good day.
I love Collinsworth! How can you not like a guy who has no problem ripping on players and coaches who make dumb decisions, on the field and off? I must say, I was not sorry Madden wasn't there to ramble on and on about the "god" who is Brett Favre. I personally think Collinsworth makes fun of himself as a player rather than talk about how great he was, sort of the Bob Brenly approach to color commentating.
Bears looked great, Cutler is the real deal, and I cannot stand Collinsworth. Coach Turner did not show to much as far as new plays, they have been working on. I felt that with Cutler back there they could easily pick up yards, you tell they will win at least 12 games this year. Watch out Green Bay, and Pittsburg
I understand that some fans do not think that the Bears are in mid-season form. It is not a reasonable thing to expect.
The defense gave up runs when there was holding. Maybe, just maybe the runs were successful BECAUSE of the holds?
I saw receivers catch the balls that were thrown to them.
The Bears DO have excellent tight ends, and should use them. They should also continue to throw to Forte.
Aromoshadu made a nice grab. Hester caught a few short ones. Bennett had a couple of grabs. Knox caught a nice deep ball. I also think I recall Kinder making a catch.
None of the receivers looked confused, or as if they were on a different page than the QB (including back-ups).
The thing that I like best about the Bears passing offense is that the plays are not the dink and dunk variety. They are for chunks of yardage and they often come at critical times. I've seen the Bears complete many 3 and 4 yard passes on 3rd and 1. It is great to see them complete a 25 yard pass on 3rd and 1!
If Pace struggles to pick up linebackers, then help him. Admire what he does well, and live with his shortcomings. Suddenly, we are not happy with a win, we are demanding perfection and total dominance!
The Bears have a good team. They should get better as they get to play together. They should win far more than they lose. For my part, I'm going to sit back and enjoy the season.
GO BEARS!
let me poop on the parade a little more....Jeff George had a great arm (actually, the best ever)....but he had a bad attitude and was a crybaby....I got to see this first hand
wait till things don't go the way of Jay...hell, he started to tear up at the beginning of yesterday's game...
a meaningless game..
get ready Chicago...
Hey $hitman,
Stay on the San Diego bandwagon...If you are living in Chicago, Please move, we do not need another person bashing the Bears...But I guess the only way to shut you up is when WE (you noticed I said WE)start winning..Go Bears
Hitman, I'm surprised you have anything left to defecate on anybodys parade, especially after the drubbing the Raiders took. I know that would have cleared my Oakland bowel!
Or did you BOLT to another ship?
Keith knows exactly what I'm about to complain about. But first:Mr. Jimmy Bean I said the same thing to Keith during the game about that rotating sign. It was so distracting. I couldn't celebrate because I kept thinking there was a penalty involved. I also complained about Olsen not breaking a couple of tackles of a one-armed man until I saw it was Dawkins and let it slide. Did anyone notice that the Bears were actually putting the hurt on people. How many Broncos got helped off the field or limped off. Plain and simple they played in hostile territory just about every single down on offense. Their average starting point thru the first half was their own 5 yard line and at one time made a 98 yard drive for a TD. It was obvious that Cutler was emotional about being back there. He wanted to do well and the Bears were trying hard to win it for him. Forget all the negatives because it almost felt like a playoff game and we won on the road. With so many distractions we could've easily lost. Chalk it up to a total team effort. I won't even down the special teams for starting us back so much because that is basically from stalled attempts from denver to get in the end zone or to get close enough to kick field goals. You guys can take away the team's credit for the win but I can't down anyone's effort. If I was a Denver fan I would've been "Collingsworth, shut up already. It's done dammit", but since my team didn't stupidly give up a franchise QB for a box of Fruity Pebbles I can care less. And I don't miss Madden because he had his favorites and always talked up about them too much. Him referring to Favre as Brett all the time got on my last nerve. He thought him and brett were walking off into the sunset together. Now when he was on Chicago's jock he was cool. When he was animated and said whap and talked about snot coming out after a hit he was the best. But he turned into your favorite uncle who got old and redundant. I will take Collingsworth and his small town folksy persona for now until he starts putting some of those Sarah Palin "you betchas" into it. Then he's out.
While Jeff George had a great arm, I'm not sure that it was the greatest ever or very much greater than Cutler's. George, taken first overall in the 1990 NFL draft by what was then a bad Indy Colts team for reasons that had several folks scratching their heads (Emmitt Smith was taken 17th!) had no offensive line in front of him for the four years he was there. Then, was traded to the Falcons who didn't have a running game, always a pressure on the the QB. Moreover, George was about 20 lbs. lighter and was strictly a statuesque pocket passer. Cutler can throw very strongly rolling out in addition to being able to run himself. Cutler also was able to receive some high-quality offensive coaching under the likes of one of the best ever in Mike Shanahan.
While the two have been compared before because the "attitudes" and expectations may be similar, the comparisons really aren't that close.
What is all this "Orton deserves better" B.S?
Kyle Orton is lucky to be the starting QB on a bad NFL team. there he is. He may be a nice guy - so is Rex Grossman. He had 4 years to prove himself. He didn't win a playoff game. His career QBR is 71.1.
Leave him in the past and in Denver. Let's move on.
Correct Stu (welcome back, by the way), you were a bit unnecessarily negative, but that’s fine. Again, though, this was just another glorified scrimmage and practice game, as well as a good simulation game for someone like Cutler to get accustomed to road games with rowdy fans like the Denver boo birds that he’ll see in much more intense Green Bay or Vikings games on the road. You still can’t judge these preseason games on the starters because you just don’t know if some of the starters are more worried about staying healthy on the field and not exactly playing full throttle on every down. I’ve seen enough of Cutler when he played with the Broncos to know that physically, he won’t be a bust for the Bears based on talent alone. The other stuff off the field regarding money and contract extensions, you can’t predict. That’s all on Angelo and the Execs to keep him happy. For me, I look more in preseason games at the position battles among the 2nd and 3rd stringers on the bench because it’s those guys who should be playing all out as if it’s their livelihood is at stake, which of course, it is for some of these guys trying to make the cuts. Unfortunately, I’m not liking what I see among the younger guys, especially on Defense. Trumaine McBride was awful. We just gotta hope that Bowman, Tillman and yes, even Danieal Manning all can stay healthy during the season. As for Pace vs. Dumervil, let’s face it, Pace will win most of the battles against defensive ends, but he’ll need help against the young studs like Dumervil, Mario Williams, etc. We already know he’s an older guy, but he’s still pretty darn good and better than what we’ve had in recent years. As for the wide receiver starters last night… again, look at the matchups. Champ Bailey and Brian Dawkins back there...c’mon, kinda hard to step up against future hof’ers like those 2, don’tcha think? At least Knox looked decent with the long reception from Hanie. Give these young wr’s a chance to develop. This is what we have, period. If you ask me, I think it’s time to start looking at assistant coaches like Daryl Drake next offseason to question why we haven’t been able to develop young wide receivers properly or quickly all these years? Overall though, I think the receivers on the hot seat are Rideau (I know the Dawkins hit was awesome, but he should have held onto the reception) and Rashied Davis, although Davis might have saved himself a spot on the roster for special teams play.
Al Michaels and Chris Collinsworth – they’re good enough I suppose. You either like them or you don’t. If you don’t and would rather hear biased Bears play by play, then turn down the TV volume while watching the game and turn up the radio for the local guys. Tim Little, I think comparing Al Michaels to Bill Walton was a bit harsh. Michaels is a play-by-play guy, NOT an analyst of the game. That being said, welcome back to FCP. Come on man, the Bulls are about to sign Carlos Arroyo to back up Rose and Hinrich. Big news to discuss right there! ;-)
Hitman must have been watching a different game than the rest of us. There must be a special channel that gets it's signals from outer space in that parallel universe he lives in.
Tell us Hitman ... what color is the sun in your world, and are there more than one of them?
Can you say, "Kyle is our quarterback." in Klingon?
Oh ... Hitman's Raiders looked awfully good against the Stints, didn't they?
In his universe, I'm betting that they beat New Orleans by at least 200 points.
Yup, the Black and Silver sure look awesome, don't they? A real force to be reckoned with.
Im also going to ask that we take this ridiculous picture off this blog about Cutlers mascare, that is so freakin insulting and disrespectful to our new QB, that I cant even believe its on here.
Seriously, Stu, or Ricky or whoever, this isnt journalism to dig up this photo, its just jagbagizm. Show some respect for our New Guy and take this down or put up something with him throwing a guided missle strike to Forte in the end zone...or something....but to glorify these loser chicks and their slam of our new guy...just makes me think whoever picked this photo, has it out for Cutler too!
Edgar thanks for the welcome back it's good to be back and Gig thanks for the congrats.
Edgar although that comparison may have been a little harsh you also made my point for me in that pre-season is more about evaluating the under classmen so to speak and Al and Chris missed the boat entirely in that regard. I mean who realy wanted to hear the Mike Vick story re-hashed or what they thought about Dungee's role in the whole thing?
And yes I did see the story about Carlos Arroyo and figured first off Pargo is dead meat once again. It may just end up being an interesting season yet.
Just to get the Story straight for the ill or misinformed.
Cutler found out that McDaniels, not McDonalds, tried to sign Matt Cassel, he was understandably P'O'd, so he went in and asked the Broncos to promise not to trade him, and they said they wouldnt promise. The next day, he had his agent ask for a trade.
If you call that being a baby, your a moron!
Keith, seriously, stop hanging on Hitmans shortys, you know the Bears are going to be good. The mere fact that you said they dont have a running game is just utterly inane.
Anthony, you are nominated for funniest post of the year. Seriously, you not only nailed hitman to the cross, you stuck a bag of flaming turds under his feat for good measure. Nice stuff. He is a team Hopper isnt he? I wonder who he will be in love with when the Sproles & Co show goes belly up!
WRD - Good post. Your funny..and you know you thought Palin was hot, don't lie.
Love you Tela! So Tru
Edgar, do you have a Return Button on your computer homie? The 10,000 word paragraphs are impossible to read. Sorry, you got skimmed.
Villy, your my man lately...not sure when we started this Bro-mance all of a sudden, but its nice to see how the Bears can bring people together. Keep up the nice work. I am surprised though...I wasnt sure If I was going to be able to win your heart away from Hitman, I know you too often went to Sizzla together and all....
I think this game proved beyond any doubt that Cutler is huge upgrade over Orton.
As the game went on, Cutler was getting stronger and just waiting for the right time to go deep. With Orton, you are very limited to just 10-15 yard passing plays, which opposing defenses can just play strong man on.
And a big kudos to Devin Hester. That near touchdown punt return brought back some happy memories.
Nice post Katherine. Please stick around. Since Julie B. deserted us we've needed a sane woman around to keep us rational and grounded. Plus some of these guys won't get to correspond with a woman who isn't mail-ordered or his Pretty Woman. And Tim, congrats on the "pop-pop" situation. What do you go by with grandkids? And Hitman, I caught that Raider game Saturday. All I can say is WOW! What gives? I know it's just pre-season but shouldn't a team score once before the other team scores 40 points? That doesn't bode well for your favorite team in the whole world. Now that game was a poop parade. And don't act like you didn't tear up watching that meaningless game.

You forgot Bradon cattle.
Hippie Yihaa!
Collinsworth is ok. At least he has something to say and is not afraid to say it.
The Bears played well in areas but I did not like seeing the runs that the Broncos were busting off.
I did not see any WR step up to make a case for himself either. The TEs looked fine but we already knew that.
One player who did show something was Adrian Peterson.
I was writing him off since the Bears are really pushing Garrett Wolff but Peterson did more than enough to keep his spot on the team.
What had Wolff done so far?
Nothing really.
Peterson has also looked better than Kevin Jones from what I have seen so who is going to go?
By the way... that chick with the Cutler sign kind of looks like Ted Nugent.
Stu responds: You're right about Garrett Wolfe, "Phil": What exactly has he done to justify a roster spot (other than being a head-scratching third-round draft pick by Jerry Angelo)? A.P. definitely deserves it more. And LOL on the woman with the Cutler sign .... you see, Culzie, that's why we went with that photo! Story of the night was Broncos' fans reaction to Cutler's return, and that pic is worth 1,000 words.
I am a big bronco fan and I really dont care about cutler being traded, with what happened he would not of been happy here. Good luck Chicago hopefully he works well for you and matures. But Denver never should of traded with Chicago, maybe some three way trade for Clevelands Brady Quinn. Orton should not even be in the NFL. This guy is absolute garbage. Hopefully he gets dumped by denver within the next two games. Anyway good luck Chicago.
Apparently 10 Thousand Words for some ;)
HA! Phil..I get it...branding cattle.....hehehe.
Hitman, did you play with Jeff George too? What a piece of garbage.
How else would anyone know that? HA! But seriously dude, why are
you turning your back on the Bears? I don't recall anyone jumping
ship with Mike Tomczack, and he was a way better QB than Orton.
Can't wait to see what Rex can do in a passing offense.....hurry
up....Rex. Heal. Heal Rex, heal(ha; I say the same thing to my dog Rex ;).
Oh I ain't gonna hate on Palin's looks. She got the goods. And Broncofan, that is class all the way. It's a shame that some of the so-called Bear fans are not so impressed with their own team. I think we've been pessimistic so long that we can't let it go. We want to see failure so we can wake up in the morning and complain about it. It's like if we could get up and have something to be happy about somewhere in the back of our minds it will be taken away. It's a little damned if you do/damned if you don't. If we look good it's just pre-season. If we look bad it's the end of the world. We can not show what we will do for game one. Coach Smith play his cards close and that drives everyone crazy. Even guys who should appreciate that we have not given up what we are going to do. He knows that the media twists stuff so he is the king of the spiel. "___is our QB".. that is classic. A guy can have his leg hanging by shredded tendons and Coach Smith will say that we will see what he brings on Sunday. Then put him on IR on Sunday morning. We'd be fools to show Green Bay what we're going to do. Honestly, I think Green Bay is trying so hard to look good that they are showing their best for the season. That's why so many teams look good in pre-season and lose so much in the regular season. They tried with everything they got and let everyone saw what they will have to do to stop them. Nobody gets paid the big bucks to play in August.
Stu, I just found out that Colorado is the new old-folks home since Contreras was traded to them. Sox having a white flag sale? Thome to Dodgers! Cubs can't get rid of any of their baggage. Williams is still the man, huh?
Thank you WRD, that is number 2 and number 1 is just begining to talk and we're waiting to see what comes from the mouth of babes so to speak as far as what I go by and number 3 is due November 19th. And you're right not to hate on Palin's looks but "you betcha" have wonder if her brain has been in tundra country too long and has suffered some frost bite.
Culzie I kinda thought the pic on this thread just proved the people in Denver have been breathing that thin air too long but someone else can tell that chick that 'cause she looks like she may have a serious collection of whips at home LOL.
Wow!
I spelled Garrett Wolfe's name wrong not once but twice.
Guess he has not made much of an impression.
I would rather see Hester in Wolfe's role.
Play him in the slot and maybe in the back field once in a while with Forte for an occasional hand off or pitch out.
Use him the way the Saints use Bush or the way the Vikings will be using Harvin. Move him around.
Maybe that will just confuse him more than he already is but in any case he is not a wide out.
It is just not happening.
His punt return against the Broncos was a glimpse of what the Bears have been missing and that is where he makes a real impact.
Tim = Tru
I agree about Garrett Wolfe, Phil & Stu. I never liked him going back to his rookie season. He should have been cut after the 2nd Training camp season. I was hoping that at the least, he would develop into a decent third down specialist, but he's not even close. I'm sure he tries and he works hard, but he's too small and just not quick enough and strong enough to play at this level. He's made some decent special teams play, but not enough to keep him on the roster. I'd easily keep Adrian Peterson over Wolfe any day.
Tim L., I hear what you're saying about rehashing the Vick and Dungy stories as old news, but I think you have to remember that these guys are the NATIONAL broadcast team. They go with the flow on the national news and at that point in the game, these guys are not going to know too much about the Bears' & Broncos' 3rd and 4th players on the depth chart. Anyway, I'm not trying to overly defend them by any means cuz I don't really care all that much overall, but if you really wanted to hear more about the "Juaquin Iglesias" or the "Al Afalava" on the team, then it would have been best to tune out the TV volume and listen to the Bears' radio team while watching the game.
Culzie, I don't know what to say man. You always rip me for my lengthy posts, but I've seen you type much longer posts in other topics. Or maybe you're just an expert in the "copy and paste" writing method, but sorry bud, I don't do shortcuts.
Culzie - Hitman might be wrong about the Raiders. But the Bears still have a lot to prove. Preseason means very little. The rest of our division has been better than us in preseason. When I KNOW we have improvements at the lines, then I will believe.
Tomczac better than Orton is funny....explaining to me about Jeff George is funny...but watching Jerry Angelo destroy the Bears past, present, and future is not....Ted Phillips flying under the radar is impressive, tho...
Edgar I hear ya bout them being a National Broadcast team but that does NOT make them exempt from doing some home work on the players trying to make the next cut.
So now you are a Chargers fan Hitman?
Please.
This is the team that drafted Eli Manning and then traded him for Philip Rivers when they had Drew Brees as their QB.
Then you let Brees walk away and get nothing in return.
Dumb.
You keep Brees and then draft Larry Fitzgerald instead.
They should have seen that L.T. is on the verge of being washed up and you trade him while he still has some value and you make Michael Turner your starter instead of letting Turner walk away while getting nothing in return.
Dumb.
They fired Bill Callahan one year after he took them to the Super Bowl and replaced him with the “has never won anything” idiot Norv Turner.
Dumb.
They drafted Ryan Leaf over Peyton Manning in what has to be the biggest draft screw up in NFL history.
Dumb.
They have not exactly shown the way as far as running an NFL team goes and they still may end up moving to the Bermuda triangle of the NFL... Los Angeles.
You guys are wrong about Garrett Wolfe; his worth may not warrant a third round pick, but his special teams play was outstanding last year. With a wider field, due to a new cannon arm, I'm guessing we may see some open field parlays from this kid.
He deserves a roster spot, and I'm confident about this strong enough to talk again in December.
I gar-own-tee!
Football Fan, Phil...
you sound like a Bears fan, Phil....you know dumb on every level
LT washed up?...and you have a problem with Rivers?
why?...cuz he bullied the sissy the bears have behind center?
I'd take Rivers over any QB in the NFL...nobody's tougher
I'm so going to enjoy this year
Philtration --
Not that Hitman needs the support, but Bill Callahan? Since his stint in San Diego, he has proven to be not much of a coach, at the pro or collegiate level. And just remember, his less successful brother is OC of the Bears.
Re Brees v Rivers, SD got the better part of that deal.
Ryan Leaf, yeah that was bad, but time wounds all heals (Hawkeye Pierce, M*A*S*H). Hindsight is 20/20. I mean, Tom Brady is the most successful QB of the past decade. Think how many teams passed him over during the NFL draft. (I guess that would be all of the NFL teams each of which passed him over six times).
LT -- yeah, that would be like cutting Walter Payton loose late in his career. Aint happening.
Aww, how romantic, obsessed Cubs basher Seedy Backlash combining forces with the Hitman in FCP. How appropriate.
Yeah, Phil, you should just stick with jokes. You are not very 'on
point' when you are being serious.
Hitman, are you a Chargers fan now?? WTF? Let's see ..there are 32
teams, you have plead allegiance to at least 4 of them so far...I figure in 28weeks you will be a Bears fan again. See you then.
I don't know if the Bears can use Wolfe the right way-but at least
they aren't stuck with Reggie Bush instead. They really should keep
1 less running back and 1 more O-lineman. I don't think that Orlando
Pace is gonna be an effective run blocker. Never has been. Never
could get low. He really belongs on more of a cream puff passing team
like the Packers. One reason the bears are not going to the
Superbowl is because they have already advertised that they are going to pass left and run right. What a Shame.
Yeah stuckintrailerpark.
I know how the Bears can use Wolfe.
Use him as one of the players you need to cut to get down to your 53 man roster for the season.
Rivers over any QB in the NFL Hitman?
Retarded.
Brees has averaged 4636 yards and a 93.3 QB rating since he left San Diego.
The Chargers could have had that AND Larry Fitzgerald.
Do you watch football or do you pick a team to follow because you like their helmet?
Sometimes I pick a team (or pick on a team) just because it pisses off Edgar.
;-)
Stay thirsty my friends (you, too, Edgar)!
Go Bears.
Go Cardinals (baseball).
Sorry Edgar..your right. I need to get new material. Ive gone to that well a few 10K too many times. I will promise to read your posts. Also, I never cut and paste without giving credit.
Still Paragraphs are a good thing.
also, I love when Phil lashes out at someone other than me.
