You want unbridled intensity on Super Sunday? Competition at its fiercest? Tune into the men's final of the Australian Open at 2:30 a.m. and you'll find what you're looking for.
I'm not the world's biggest tennis fan. Far from it. I play a bit during the summer, but I love great competition.
And if you guys watch one tennis match in your life, make sure it's Rafael Nadal vs. Roger Federer.
Nadal is coming off an epic victory last night. It took over five hours for the Spanish lefty to knock out Fernando Verdasco 6-7 (4), 6-4, 7-6 (2), 6-7 (1), 6-4.
It was pure competition. Down 40-0 in the last game, Nadal admitted he started crying. I know what you're thinking, but after five hours of leaving everything on the court, I don't blame him.
Now Nadal has to face his arch enemy. This is Ali-Frazier. Federer is trying to tie Pete Sampras' record of 14 grand slam titles.
Federer is one of the greatest athletes in history, but Nadal has supplanted him as the best right now.
So here's your schedule Saturday night: watch BJ Penn and Georges St-Pierre in the main event of UFC 94, continue partying and then Nadal-Federer at 2:30.
I guarantee the action in the Super Bowl will pale in comparison.
So Roman, I;m guessing you feel like Vegas does that the Steelers will dominate this game. I don't know, I'm not impressed with the Steeler offense and I feel that the Cardinal defense is underrated. We shall see, at least the tennis and commercials promise to be good!
Come on I took the Over on the length of the National Anthem I am stoked for this!
Whats up Pressers! I know its sports drought season Ro but no UFC! Penn/St. Pierre? Biggest match in a while. One dude might sit at the top of two weight classes I think that would make him the best. I'm going with Penn he will have both titles at the end of the night taking ole Georges in a bloody fashion.
Staying on topic; I think BJ could take Nadal and Federer at the same time in a cage at the fifty yard line on Sunday.
I love how Sweeney claims that he is "staying on topic" when the topic is really about tennis, not UFC. haha That being said though, I'm not exactly pumped up about the Super Bowl either. UFC for me as well and then some Bulls action. While I respect the sport of tennis, i'm more into watching women's tennis for obvious reasons. Ana Ivanovic and Maria Sharapova fan club president right here! Nadal-Federer... don't those 2 face each other in the tournament finals like 10 times a year??
Fed loses!
I'd say the baton has officially been passed.
