Bear down? You bet, way down

What's tougher to look at for Bears fans: stupid face-painting pseudo fans or their own goal-line offense?

Here's a look at what the media had to say about the Bears, locally and around the nation.

Seems neither Gus Frerotte nor Bernard Berrian could believe Peanut Tillman bit on an underneath route and left Berrian open for the 99-yard TD.

Adrian Peterson thought he was tackled before Bears safety Kevin Payne busted in and jarred him loose from his own teammates. Peterson took advantage by bouncing outside for a 59-yard gain.

SI.com's Peter King still has the Bears at No. 15 in his Fine 15.

The Trib's Rick Morrissey said it looked like the Bears didn't belong on the same field as the Vikings.

bracing for sanctions against Kevin and Pat Williams. It could happen as soon as Tuesday. If those defensive linemen do get suspended, that could impact whether the Bears win the NFC North. I doubt it, but it could make a difference.

Hey. That link to Steve Aschburner came up blank.... just like the Bears goal line offense.

Blown leads late in the game, blow out loses against division opponents, lifeless not ready to play efforts after a week of smack talk, only able to show up for half the game against teams like Detroit and St. Louis, poor execution on even the simple fundamentals like tackling….. it all comes down to the coaches.

No excuses here. Lovie and his gang do have the players ready to play far too often and they just throw gas on the fire with their boneheaded play calling and clueless game management. And who brought this mess here in the first place?
There is an answer to the Bears problems and it starts at the top with Jerry Angelo.
Fire Jerry and the rest of his worthless pals at the end of this season. There is no point of doing it now because this season is shot.
That gives you plenty of time to start a real search right now and don’t let the McCaskey’s or Ted Phillips have anything to do with it. They need a real football evaluator to help them with this and the search should start today.
Bring in a real G.M. and hire Bill Cowher for what ever he wants before what talent they do have becomes too old.

Does that sound like something that the Bears owners will do to you?
Me neither.

Roman responds: Thanks for the heads up on the link. Not sure why it won't work. Same with the Bears.

Oh, the Bears will be all right. Come on, we now have a four-game season ahead of us. With the next 3 at home and the Vikings Williams wall about to get dismantled, the Bears should be a lock for the playoffs, right, Lovie? Anything less and you should probably be canned at the end of the season, right, Lovie?

Let's hope Forte can hold up. I think he's on pace to handle the ball about 1000 times this season. Again, why did we get Kevin Jones?

Note to Ron Turner, Hester is not a good, reliable wideout. Quit forcing Orton to throw the ball to him. Instead, throw to your tight ends. They are the only receivers who can catch the ball in traffic.

Lovie, you need to go back to teaching the basics. For the defense, that's tackling. For the receivers, that's catching and for the o-line, it's blocking. Re Turner, he seems to have too firm a grasp on the "basics" because he calls the most unimaginative game this side of St. Louis.

Ugh.

Roman,

Nice observations. Especially the one on Kevin Payne. I can recall at least three times during the game where he would just throw himself into a tackle and not even consider wrapping anyone up. He was definitely the reason for the 59 yrd run for Peterson. What's disturbing is this guy has been playing bumpercars on tackles all season and this worthless coaching staff can't notice he doesn't wrap ANYONE up. Flies in with a shoulder and that's it. I don't even want to start with his pass defense, but the lack of coaching development is obvious. Kevin Payne can't get better if no one can make him better.

Then there's Charles Tillman. When are people going to realize that the "Charles Tillman Grill" as I call him is always on because offenses quick and easy him. I have never seen a corner give up more 5 and 10 yrd quick out, slant, and dig routes. That's why biting on a "gus ferrote pump fake...please" was so disturbing. Also after playing against Berrian in practice for years don't you think Tillman would have a clue on how to guard him and get him off his game....or shouldn't the coaching staff for that matter.

This may be one of the more frustrating seasons in recent memory because if literally 10 plays go in the bears favor. This team is 10-2.

Tillman bad personal foul against Tampa in OT....
3rd and 1 fullback plunge in Carolina near mid-field to ice the game. (What we didn't know at the time was this wasn't the only time we would see this)
The still unbelieveable 11 seconds in Atlanta....
Soft cover 2 vs Tennessee.
The preparation for Green Bay
4 cracks at the one in Minnesota and nothing and
the 99 yrd debacle after it.

5 losses could of easily been wins. That may not be exactly 10, but a few plays have cost the Bears GAMES and not first downs. Great teams don't get in that situation, good teams find a way to win, and bad teams destruct. Which one would you put the bears in.

If I could only figure out how to get back the check I mailed for Playoff Tickets!

SERENITY NOW!

Turner/Babich must go
The fans lost this game, If the idiot fans woudn't keep going to the games and supporting the McCaskey's we might get them to sell. 1 Super Bowl win in 40 years? Do we count 63?
Geez Just wait till next SB win huh? we will get em then for sure!!

I've been pretty critical of Lovie and the coaches throughout the season, but not today. Minus Turner's fullback dive into the "Williams Wall," I think the play calling was pretty sound, the players just didn't execute. I mean, how many passes were dropped? How many sacks and turnovers did the offense give up? How many missed tackles did the defense account for? If I would have changed anything, it would have been more help for St. Clair against Jared Allen. I can't say for sure, but I would bet that after the first few sacks, Orton lost his focus and concentration. Those were some big men falling on him yesterday.

You also have to give it up for the Vikes' talent. Their defensive line doesn't get all that media attention for nothing, and #28 is ridiculous. (Though I must say, if Peterson keeps up his level of intensity, he won't last much longer in the league.)

I was actually very impressed with Lovie's challenge on the punt downed near the goal-line and have a newfound respect for his remarks regarding the our inability to score from the 1 yd line, "We felt like we needed a touchdown in that situation. You’ve got to be able to get it in from there. If you don’t get it in from there, you probably don’t deserve to win."

I agree 100%.

Being a die hard Chicago Bears fan, I was just as torn up as the rest of you after this. I vowed never to watch another game! But whatever, I'll be in front of the TV next sunday at noon. The team may be a mess, but much like the Hester of the last two season's, Matt Forte is a player you can't help but watch. Go Bears.

Funny thing is, the Bears were playing sharp football right up until those last two goal line calls. Play action to the tight end, followed up by a pitch (should have been wider) to Forte were the perfect calls. Then we follow those up by running at their three man 'DAM' two straight? We can't move BIG GUYS up the middle! This ain't the Rams. Off tackle or play action would have been preferred, but this staff always chooses the hard way. One thing I'm beginning to see that is a certain; our coordinators are NEVER clicking, together, on the same day.

I've preached for years the importance of total concentration on every play, every pitch, every situation, because it's that one moment that opens up the floodgates; and between Turners inept mind, and Peanuts gaffe, we let another Golden Opportunity slip through our fingertips. Crazy to think we're still in this thing, but we are.

It's a shame Orton started pressing things in the third quarter because we were far from being out of this game, but his feet showed me otherwise. Hot feet are never a good sign, and regardless of whether St. Clair couldn't stop a senior in a wheelchair, you hold your mechanics, regardless.

Nevertheless, I will continue to show up on Sundays, support my TEAM (sorry, coaches not included), and hope one day Turner, Babich, and Lovie ALL SHOW UP ON THE SAME BUS!

Quick thoughts;

1) Tillman and Vasher have been a big disappointment. I don't care what B.S. scheme your'e running, your men can't constantly be three to five yards away from you!

2) Tight ends, tight ends, tight ends! We are probably the ONLY .500 or better team who refuses to use one of their offensive strengths. Could you imagine if...

3) If Hester can't run through his routes, he's good for only a few calls, and a deduction from his check.

4) Mike Brown is one of the most fundamentally sound tacklers I've ever seen. Mr. Payne, you have all the study film you need right under your nose!

5) I still feel very good about making the playoffs. It's the Jekyll/Hyde aspect of the Bears that has me flinching every Sunday morning.

I agree that the Bears were playing well until the goal line mess and that is part of the problem.
They play one good quarter, one so-so and two bad ones game after game.
That has to go on the coaches. Are your players ready to play a NFL game or not? I mean a real 60 minute game and not gust flashes of doing things right here and there.
Even the worst teams in the league can score a TD, sack the QB or come up with a pick now and then.
Are the Bears happy with being just ok and nothing more? When I listen to Lovie's excuses that is what I hear. Always looking for some stupid moral victory since a real one was out of reach again.
The truth is that they are not the worst team in the league but they are not one of the best either.
Middle of the pack and that means looking good one moment and bad the next. That is exactly what all .500 teams do and all the talk and swagger in the world is not going to change this.
New G.M.
New coaches.
New players.
That is how you do it.

FIRE SMITH AND HIS STAFF OH AND TAKE JERRY WITH HIM!!!!!!!

On a happier note, Tank Johnson has a new BFF of his own.

I hear that Tank and Plaxico Dumbass are pretty tight.

Would not serving up to 3 & 1/2 years for shooting ... YOURSELF, surely become the Websters Unabridged / Google-Search definition of "stupidity"?

Every time I think that Michael Vick, or Pacman Jones are the real deal, another Jester emerges from the King's Court, begging for recognition.

You forgot to get the opinions of this website...

http://www.fireloviesmith.com/

IT HAS OFFICIALLY BEGUN!

i agree as long as fans show up there will be no changes.. chi town is notorious for supporting losers and the keep showing up and yes even the sports writers seem reluctant to mention owners and coaches.. sheesh sometimes i miss marriotti an idiot at times but did tell it like it is!! they have talent!! I like lovie but a coaching change and serious football savvy GM across the board is needed!!

Roman,

What are you waiting for? Are you going to start the "Fire Lovie Now!" blog or not? Do we really need anymore proof than the debacle we saw yesterday to justify firing Lovie?
If you had kept your blogs for the last 3 years you would see the same topics you are seeing now. Bad offense play-calling, bad defense play-calling, the team not prepared for big games, no adjustments at half-time, bad tackling, no player development and on and on and on.
All these things have been issues ever since Lovie took over the Team. It is more of the same and the Team never ever gets any better, develops any new skills or fixes any problems. It is the ultimate broken record. The posts are all just repeating the same old, albeit it correct observations.
Bottom line: Lovie is a bad coach. They have a bad coaching staff that he assembled. There will never be any change or any hope for the future while Lovie is in charge. It's just that simple. There is no point in complaining, or whining or expecting this Team to get better. As long as Lovie is the Coach, this Team and any future it once had is doomed.
Stop the madness!!!! Please fire Lovie today!!!!!! We can't take this any longer!!!!!!
Roman please lead the charge!!! We are all behind you!!!!!!!

Roman, thanks for pointing out the comment about Tillman. The man gets beat constantly. I cannot understand why anyone thinks he is a good CB, let alone a great one.

No one has mentioned this yet, but I think it is interesting that the Vikings Williams "Wall" was allowed to play against the Bears yesterday. Not to excuse the Bears horrible play and coaching, but isn't this the same commissioner who rode the Bears constantly about Tank Williams and Cedric Benson? And isn't he the same guy who suspended qb coach Wade Wilson for taking a supplement for his DIABETES???

It makes me wonder what they're thinking at the league HQ. No way these guys should not have been suspended immediately, unless the league has cleared them. In which case, that should have been announced.

Im gonna have to say, Vick has been doing his time like a Man and kept his mouth shut and served his penance. He deserves another shot.

Pacman..has run out of lives. If he even so much as spits funny, I would can his ass.

Tank..is guilty of compounding his offenses.

What ever happened with the Briggs/Ditched Lamborgini incident?

Seriously....though..Burris is for sure Stupid....but Pierce trying to hide the gun for him, STUPIDER in my opinion.

Lets also not forget about Matt "white" Jones and Im not talking about his skin color. Fool...cause...Im color blind.

No matter how you slice it, there's only one word to describe the Bears at this point.....Pathetic....well ok you can toss in unimaginative and leaderless. Regardless why be concerned with making the play-offs just to be another Chicago team elimated in the first round? Make it to the play-offs and Lovie's around another year even with a first round elimination. Much like the recent elections it's time for change we can believe in. I get tired of hearing stuff like ..we were ready I do't know what happened we just didn't execute.....well if you didn't execute you weren't ready....if you don't or can't make adjustments on the fly or at the half, guess what, you're not ready. The only thing this team lacks is a ready for prime time coaching staff.

Culzie you can just about bet that 6 months from now there will be an episode of of Law & Order where a pro athlete shoots himself in the leg. Stupid is definitely the right word also because unlike ignorance which is curable through education, stupidity is incurable.
#1- carrying a gun and drinking-STUPID
#2- carrying a gun in your front pants pocket-STUPID
#3- carrying a gun in your pocket without the saftey on-STUPID
#4- shooting yourself in the thigh as a result of all of the above-
you deserved it but still STUPID
#5- trying to hide the gun your buddy just shot himself in the leg
with- incredably STUPID.
#6- doing all this in the State of New York-would be buried some-
where in the back pages of the paper if it weren't for the
fact that you're a STUPID professional athlete.
#7- not having learned anything from the troubles other athletes
have gotten into illegally carring guns-REAL F***ING STUPID
So you see having had the opportunity to to be educated by the stupidity of others yet ignoring it figuring you're smarter than they were proves that stupidity is incurable.

Obviously, "Ed in Richmond" doesn't know you at all. You... lead the "fire Lovie" movement? LMAO! He doesn't know you are a "love Lovie no matter what" guy. I hope you like what you see from the Bears. People like you created this situation.

Dear Kyle --

When you look at the game tape of Minnesota, please take note: Only your two tight ends caught balls in traffic. Just about every other receiver dropped at least one ball when wide open. Problem was, you only threw to your tight ends about 3 times. Bad mistake.

The key to your success is using your tight ends. Forget Hester. He is not reliable and can't catch balls in traffic.

If you want to regain your early season form (and stay off my naughty list), hit the tight ends... early... often. The rest of your offense will open up. (Yes, even the wide outs might be able to make a few plays.)

Best regards,

Santa Claus

P.S. Shave the beard. Whiskers only look good if they are Christmas white.

The way things are going, Green Bay ending up on top of the division would depress but not surprise me. The Bears simply looked terrible in almost every respect against Minnesota and the Packers. They are almost down there with Detroit as the patsies of the division. I suppose it is too early to start thinking abouit next year because the Bears still have a decent chance to make the playoffs, but I cannot realistically see them winning the next four games. They may have the talent but have not shown the desire and commitment necessary. The "swagger" of two years ago is absent, and too many players seem to prefer watching rather than attacking.I hope I'm wrong, but the season seems to me to be over except for the disappointment and recriminations.

culzie--you got the website up finally!
