What was that Barack Obama once said about Cubs fans? He forgot to mention they're corrupt (allegedly) too.
Settle down Cubs fans, I kid because I love.
And I love this juxtaposition of the Cubs fan Governor being indicted as one of the most corrupt pols in U.S. history, and the President-elect Sox fan distancing himself from the North Sider.
How about a pardon for an old Cubs fan, Mr. President?
White Sox fans are having fun with this. Just another example of a pseudo-Cubs fan embarrassing the team.
According to the indictment - which would have made the Watergate prosecutors blush - included in the corrupt behavior was Blago trying to get some Trib editorial members fired. The way he was hoping to accomplish this was threatening to interfere in the sale of Wrigley Field. And his wife Patti had some choice words for the Cubs, too.
Did Blago curse the Cubs? Does this go down in Cubbie Lore?
I was hoping Obama was going to wear his Sox hat today when he talked about this being a sad day for all Illinoisans. But no such luck.
Plenty of drama - and fun - to be coming.
I remember Blago standing in front of Wrigley on opening day, trying to jump on the Ernie Banks statue/Cubs first game bandwagon of happiness. Was Even able to shake his corrupt hand...I did think it was strange that there was no line to meet the governor, while the Ernie Banks greet line had people standing in the street during that wet march day.
Really? Obama would never gloat about the misfortune of the Cubs or of Cub fans. He doesn't have to. And neither does any other Sox fan.
Illinois is quite likely the most corrupt state in this country. It is shameful and a huge reason why I chose to leave the state. As cynical as this may sound, there's likely another of his ilk waiting in the wings.
You seem to forget the one who's ring every corrupt politician in the state has to kiss, the truly despicable Mayor Daley.
Who does that thug root for?
Roman I hope that doesn't imply that Sox fan Mayor Daley is honest.
Don't be so quick - this story is FAR from over. According to a few people who know a few poeple, at least 2 local politicians will be named here. There is A LOT of smoke surrounding Obama on this...will see what comes out and what stays sealed.
Well, at least we know who's the WORST CUBS FAN EVER!!!!! Actually, I would be pretty psyched that Roman posted that picture if I was a Cubs fan. I'd say something to vocal Sox fans such as myself to the effect of: "See, we're not so bad" or "Gives a whole new meaning to the word obnoxious."
Well guess you can't expect much more from sox fans. Especially when they have been silent about their number one fan the mayor for years. I guess being sassy and bold only goes so far, why not take on your fans in city hall if you are so high and mighty? Or are you really just that craven and cowardly sox fan?
I was, the other day, envisioning Drew Brees licking his chops watching game film of the Bears 'vaunted' defense. Michael Madigan, in the next General Assembly, won't find a bib large enough to catch his drool.
Hey Kenny, gonna get off your hands any time soon?
I know you see a chuckle in this, Roman, but I can't bring myself to feel anything but disgusted about the state of this state. 4 of the last 8 Illinois governors have either been jailed or indicted under criminal charges. Most cities and counties have elections, but not Illinois. WE have coronation ceremonies, where positions of power are handed down from father to son. And a governor who is male prostitute.
Cheer up, Milorad. After you leave prison, there might be a place for you on Hulk Hogan's "celebrity wrestling show" on cable. Especially if you wear your Elvis costume. That show has done great things for people smarter than you, like Dennis Rodman and Danny Bondauce.
This is hilarious! I am cracking up! Rod is crazy, but I will tell you this....there is nothing he is doing/done that is not STANDARD business practice in every corporation in this country. He is just using the wrong words.
Who does Jessie Jr like?
Roman responds: Jesse Jr.
Keith,
Your hilarious, how can you know so much about some things, and then...well..the opposite.
Can you name me one corporation that has attempted to SELL a senate seat? Can you name me one corporation that has attempted to HOLD up 8Million for a Childrens hospital because the Hospitals president refused to give that corporation a 50K gift to that corporations campaign war chest? No, because these are things that only Politicians can do. Now, im not saying that some, maybe many CEO's are crooks and do shady stuff all the time too, but..lets not cheapen Rod's pure audacity and extreme hubris and just flat out cockiness by saying...ITS PAR FOR THE COURSE.
This dude was running his office like Nixon and Napoleon rolled into Hitlers body.
There are all sorts of political undercurrents and Machaviavellian mechanations in play here.
I believe that the Feds pulled the plug on the investigation as soon as they possibly could, because they had no desire to drag Obama into this mess.
My opinion is that if Blago had been allowed to remain a player, it was just a matter of time before some kind of a deal would have been proposed to Barak regarding his successor to the vacant Senate seat.
I'm not saying that he would have taken the bait; but political correctness dictates that said bait be removed from the menu ... ASAP.
It would be a disaster if Obama were to enter office under a cloud of suspicion.
Culzie, Amen.
Villano, interesting.
Keith,
So, are you trying to say that Illinois just does "business" better than the other states? If that's "business" as usual, then we certainly are screwed as a country. We should all be ashamed. If you're not, then you're part of the problem.
Gig - We should all be ashamed, but not just because of Rod Blog. Rod was operating - THE AMERICAN WAY. He just got too proud and sloppy with it - JUST LIKE THE CURRENT ADMINISTRATION at the whitehouse. Why do you think everyone is requiring a "bailout"??? Corruption. We have no moral compass.
Culzie - "we live in a cynical world" - Jerry Maguire. Rod is bad, but he knows exactly who he was asking for money. And I happen to know a thing or two about Childrens Hospital. Don't be so naieve. And that is how Barack got his home. But you know what - we hold SOME people to the high standards and wink at the rest.
Keith - Maybe if you hadn't spent a lifetime on the southside you would have some perspective on the world. People who think we have no moral compass have that impression because they hang in a crowd of people who have no moral compass. No one in my world lies, cheats or is undeserving of trust. If they do, they are no longer part of my circle. And you know what? I find plenty of people with high moral character to spend my time with. They are everywhere. They just never make the news so you don't hear about them. Lies, greed and corruption are NOT the American way. That's why it's big news when it happens. Every time somebody is busted doing something immoral or illegal (Vick, Tank, Blago, etc.) you're up here saying how "everybody" does that. Well guess what? Everybody doesn't do that. Lots of people lead honest, moral lives and expect the same from others. If this is really your view of the world and not just an attempt to be controversial, maybe it's time to raise the bar for who you let into your life.
This country is SWIMMING in corruption from the top down. From the Savings and Loan scandle to the Bank of America sit-in in Chicago. Everything is relative, but the bigger the individual and bigger the crime. Our President looked right into those cameras and lied to get us to war for oil and NO-BID contracts!!! Everyone involved is getting paid except the soldiers on both sides. They get to DIE.
We got our feathers all ruffled up about some Senate Seat. He was asking for the highest bidder for the spot. He was wrong, but there was no real harm in that. And I BET he got some good offers!!! See, NO ONE DIED. NO ONE LOST A LIMB. NO ONE LOST THEIR JOB OR LIFE'S SAVINGS. Govenor Ryan was more wrong than Blogo. See folks died on his shift and he was not accountable or apologetic. Thats whats REALLY wrong with us.
Culzie - someone wise once said "everything has a price". You believe the rich and powerful do not behave like that, but they do.
Listen Fat Albert, put your sweeping magic marker away. Not every bad guy or every corrupt politician can be so easily dismissed or defended because "others have done it"
I think the president your thinking of, that wagged his finger in our faces and said..."I did not have sex with that women" was the other guy. Not Bush. Im not going to get into the whole Bush bash baiting, but lets just say this. IF BUSH BELIEVED IT TO BE TRUE, THE HE WAS NOT LYING. (period). He is no different than ANY of the other senators (like Hilary and Biden) who used that same "faulty intelligence" to justify his war against Saddam.
I will grant you it may have been more personal for Bush2, but there is NO PROOF nor is anyone who is not way out on the fringe of reality, who thinks that Bush knew differently than the story he told us. Im 100% sure Bush thought he was acting on good info.
Anyways..back to the REAL TOPIC.
Blago is an embarrassment to Cubs fans, Chicagoans and Americans.
This is NOT par for the course, this is not the American way.
IT IS THE ILLEGAL WAY.
If this is how business has been done for years and years and years....then...I would say...this business is headed for bankruptcy.
You cant just lump every scandal into ONE BIG POT.
Thats Naive my friend.
Be smarter than that. Hold your friends and leaders to a higher standard (without the wink).
I would love to have you as my defender though..
Your honor...My client is innocent....because...look at what Stalin did to the bullshavicks...it pails in comparison to my clients petty crime.
I rest my case!
Judge Culzie
Mark,
You raise some decent questions, although i think you are missing major pieces of info on this story.
Like...why did Valerie Jarret withdraw her name from consideration just days before the indictment? That's who Obama really wanted to have it.
Also, why was Rod sooooo P'O'd about Obama's refusal to "pay for play" if there were NO CONVERSATIONS about it? How did he know Obama was only willing to offer "thanks"?
Finally...
I have a question about Fitzgeralds statement to the press. Why did Fitzgerald say this so cryptically?
"I should be clear that the complaint makes no allegations whatsoever about the president-elect or his conduct,"
he said.
But he also made clear that his investigation was hardly complete. He still needed "to find out what happened." And he said, as a policy, that the U.S. Attorney office is not in the business of "giving clean bills of health."
Let me also be clear that I have defended Obama on this one to my pops, my facebook crowd and my political discourse group.
Now, if Obama interferes with this investigation in any way...or if he tries to fire Fitzgerald once he takes office...or if he just sweeps this under the rug post inauguration, then...maybe I wont be so supportive.
But as it stands now, I hope this Blago Scandel doesnt derail Obama's great start. I really think he is off too.

Jesse Jr. is going down in this fiasco.
Something about the way he comported himself during his press conference yesterday tells me that he's in trouble.
The congressman dothe protest too much.
MARK, I TOTALLY THOUGHT THAT TOO.
HAVENT WE LEARNED ANYTHING....IF NOT THAT GOING OUT AND DEMANDING THAT YOU ARE INNOCENT OR PROMISING THAT YOU ARE NOT LEAVING FOR ANOTHER COACHING JOB IN A PRESS CONFERENCE IS THE KISS OF DEATH.
SABAN
Gov. James McGreevey
LARRY CRAIG
Bobby Petrino
I love this blog. Where else can you put Saban and Larry Craig in the same sentence and have it make sense?
"Earlier today, the Illinois Attorney General (whose family is knee deep in Illinois politics) filed an unprecedented motion to declare Gov. Blagojevich "unable to serve."
While couched in terms of protecting the public interest, many of these calls for Gov. Blagojevich to resign or be stripped of his powers come from people who would love nothing more than for Gov. Blagojevich to leave office quickly, take a plea deal, and go quietly to prison where he can join his gubernatorial predecessor. Such a result may be justice for Gov. Blagojevich's alleged crimes, but would
leave the public in the dark
as to the full extent of Illinois corruption and allow the ruling Illinois political class to continue business as usual."

HMMMMMMMMM>>>????
If I were a Journalist...
I wonder where my loyalties would be...
to a democratic party that's local leaders were so corrupt they were trying to get their fellow journalists expunged from the record for being to critical and doing their job.....or a political party who most journalist fought so hard to get them power back.
That is quite the conundrum?!
