I'm psyched for UFC 90 Saturday night at Allstate Arena, perhaps more for the main undercard bout than for the main event.
I don't think there's any way Patrick Cote is going to beat Anderson Silva, although he does have a puncher's chance. And Silva's talk of retirement could mean he's distracted. Cote packs a punch, so we'll see.
But the beauty of that fight figures to be the chance to watch the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world in Silva. There is nothing he can't do in MMA.
I'm really looking forward to the co-main event of Josh Koscheck vs. Thiago Alves. Koscheck is a former NCAA national champ who had a 42-0 record in 2001. That's an amazing feat. Alves is on an unbelievable hot streak.
This will be the second UFC event I've attended. I went to Liddell-Ortiz II and like Dana White, I compare it to a Mike Tyson fight.
I almost wish I were going as a fan instead of working it.
Silva will win!
Is this a sport?
I prefer jello wrestling.
this sport is the best things since apple pie!

It's going to be wild at Allstate for this event. Sorry to say that I can't make it live to UFC 90 this Saturday because I'll be out of town, but I did go to the Silva vs. Henderson match at Vegas last year which was also great. I say Silva wins again this Saturday, but Cote has a small chance because he's a dangerous striker and an experienced UFC veteran. However, Silva is on top of his game right now and unless he's caught by a punch first, then Cote will have no chance. I don't care how good the chin is, I've never seen anyone take a combination from Silva and not go down yet. I don't see this going more than 1 round.
Koscheck vs Alves is a toss-up. I'll go with Alves for now because he's on a hot streak going into this matchup.
Hey tom, I've got news for you, MMA is one of the hottest sports gig going on right now. You don't know what you're missing. Have fun with your jello!
Silva will walk through Cote on Saturday. I am pretty close to saying that Anderson Silva will go down as the greatest MMA star of all time, I even think above Gracie. It will be a really good time at the All-State Saturday night, it is too bad that I won't be able to make it, but I didn't want to take a second mortgage out to pay for my ticket. I will just watch it at a bar for free. Alves will win the fight over Koscheck if he keeps it on his feet, if Koscheck gets the fight to the ground it will be a different story.
You lucky dog Roman. I hope you have ringside or near ringside seats. I have been to three MMA live events two UFC and one all women. These three events are on my top ten list of awesome sporting events I have attended all time. The MMA fights are adrenaline pumping, jump out of you seat an yell as loud as you can type of things. I encourage anyone who is not grossed out by this bloodsport to attend a card live sometime even if it is not a marquee event like Saturday nights.
As far as my predictions go:
Anderson Silva Vs. Patrick Cote: Silva first round KO of Cote. I have seen Dana try and put the jaw of granite dude in front of Silva only to see it shattered like glass. You saw the beating Leben took from Bisping, and yes he was conditioned like he never has been before blah blah blah, we have seen him take huge beatings and not go down before he was dried out to. Ask Koscheck. Silva went though Leben like a hot knife cutting butter.
Josh Koscheck Vs. Thiago Alves: Alves 3rd round TKO. Kostcheck is going to get tired from all the ground play and get caught on his feet. Alves stand up is going to be the difference. I have it a draw on the ground. BJJ is now the strongest ground game. Kos is as you say one of the best wrestlers out there though. I agree that this will be one of the best fights of the night. And don't be surprised of Kos submits him early on a Alves mistake but I don't think so.
Rich Clementi Vs. Gray Maynard. Rich Clementi is underrated in the UFC. His BJJ is sweet. First round submission Clementi/
Fabricio Werdum Vs. Junior Dos Santos: I don't know much about Santos but Werdum is scary. This might be the KO of the night. Werdum KO
Sean Sherk Vs. Tyson Griffin: I think this will be an excellent ground battle. Not that exciting for some but I love a good chess match on the ground. I have to give the edge to Sherk. He is pissed about how BJ dominated him and i give the strength nod to him. I think this will be on of the more technical bouts of the night. Sherk in a split.
As far as the may not be broadcast fights go. It good to see Hermes Franca back in action. And Spencer Fishers fists always impress.
Thales Leites over Drew McFedries
Spencer Fisher over Shannon Gugerty
Dan Miller over Matt Horwich (no clue I went with the dude with the picture)
Hermes Franca over Marcus Aurelio I like them both but I have to go with Hermes wouldn't doubt a KO here.
Josh Burkman over Pete Sell. I think Drago is fun to watch but his skills are out matched here. Burkman in first. Submission of the night.
As far as my predictions go:
Anderson Silva Vs. Patrick Cote: Silva first round KO of Cote.
Josh Koscheck Vs. Thiago Alves: Koscheck 3rd round split decision.
Rich Clementi Vs. Gray Maynard. First round submission Clementi.
Fabricio Werdum Vs. Junior Dos Santos: Werdum KO
Sean Sherk Vs. Tyson Griffin: Sherk in either a split decision or submission.
Thales Leites over Drew McFedries
Spencer Fisher over Shannon Gugerty
Dan Miller over Matt Horwich. Miller
Hermes Franca over Marcus Aurelio. Aurelio with the submission or UD.
Josh Burkman over Pete Sell. Drago is a ham who's never had his day and I don't believe ever will. But I'd sooner see Drago fight than Burkman any day. Sell is a real personality that is just like the Cubs, can't win for losin' and so I'm goin' to go with the underdog in Sell even though he'll lose.

So pumped to be going! First live event for me even though have been following since the beginning. Too bad no LHW on the card. I got- Silva, Alves, Sherk, Werdum,Clementi, Leites, Fisher, Miller, Aurelio, Burkman
Tyson fight? are you joking? My first thought is that most UFC events have a couple of good fights sandwiched by a bunch of mediocre ones. Sherk vs. Griffin was action packed, Koschek vs. Alves was decent, Werdum knock out satisfying, but the rest was ho hum. I think that there are to many events to close together. the league is over saturated with mediocrity. one thing that could bring some energy back would be the return of the tournament format for the various weight classes. the second thing that came to mind while watching is how far away most of the fighters are when they throw punches and kicks. they seem to lack the ability to mix it up in close without grabbing. the UFC has started to become more kick boxing like. if that is the case I would like to see a few K-1 fighters in the mix ( Remy Bojansky vs. Anderson Silva etc). there would be no shortage of action and the striking KO's would increase. as I have posted before the cage limits the action. it is better suited for all out brawling than strategic fighting.
It's good to see the UFC has entered big time sports like boxing. That "performance" on Saturday should be investigated...
Roman, you're a natural!!! Who needs Pay-Per-View???? Dude, that is a great vid of Alves showing off his moves on you. You shouldn't have let him off so easy though. When are you gettin' in the cage? Now, that I'd pay to see!!!!
