Stevie Eyre: World Series champion!

How does it sound Cubs fans? Scott Eyre, World Series champ! How does it look to see your former reliever pouring champagne?

"Stevie Eyre," as Lou once called him .

Truth is, who cares. Stevie or Scotty Eyre wasn't going to do anything for the Cubs in the playoffs.

He wouldn't have made Soriano or Ramirez or Fukudome hit.

He wasn't going to make every infielder in Game 2 field the ball.

He probably wouldn't have done anything. And I don't remember anyone being too unhappy that he was let go.

Still, always seemed like a class act and a serviceable lefty reliever.

Good for him.

He was sad to go, but he didn't look too sad Wednesday.

As far as the Cubs? Wait till next year.

I was sad to see Scott depart from the Cubs this season. I really liked him personally (he gave me my first game-used ball, a Magglio HR, when he was with the Sox) and as a reliever. I just think he lost Lou's support after getting off to a shaky start in 2007, and it carried over again going into 2008.

The only solice I can take in Philly winning the World Series is that Scott will take home a ring, which he deserves. But, he's not the only former Cub, or former Sox, or even former Cub/Sox player on the 2008 Phillies that will earn a ring.

Former Cubs/Sox - Eyre and Tom "Flash" Gordon (played in 34 games)
Former Cubs - Matt Stairs and Les Walrond (played 4 games with the Phils this year and was on the Cubs in 2006)
Former Sox - Tadahito Iguchi (had 7 ABs in 4 games with Phils)

All those guys played on the 2008 Phillies at some point or another during the season, and will be picking up hardware soon. Congrats to Scott and the players on the Phillies. However, no congrats to the people of Philadelphia and fans of the Phillies...you still stink!

dont be so happy for "us" cubs fans.

Full Quart Press?

Big ups to the Phillies. I thought the Rays were gonna sting-em!

Does anyone outside of Philly really give a rat's a$$?

And did anyone actually watch this series? I'll bet the ratings for this year are among the worst in league broadcasting history.

I didn't watch a single inning, and only heard an inning or two on the radio as I was drifting off to sleep.

Scott Eyre did nothing here. That's all that counts. He didn't do much in Philly either and there's a good chance he won't be on their team next year. I wish him well with his ring but there are no Chicago tears for Scott Stevie Eyre.

the guy was brutal here...every year fringe players luck out into a series win. Eyre is the definition of "fringe"

I think a lot of Cub fans would echo Vilano's comments, not because the teams were unworthy but because of the depression of watching the Cubs look like the worst rather than best team in the playoffs.Eyre was okay and a good teammate, so one does not resen his good fortune. I did not watch the series because I really thought the Cubs were going to be there and couldn't bring myself to watch because they were not.

It's official: Lowest-rated World Series ever
Oct 30, 2008 ... It's official: Lowest-rated World Series ever. The ratings are in, and the pundits were right. Sort of. Raysbench_2 ...

This blog is freakin' hilarious!!! Such a Sox fan you are - I love it!!!!

Can we expect more columns from Rick Telander and Greg Couch whining about how the World Series was "tainted" because the Cubs did not win it?
More hanging out at empty bars near Wrigley and pouting about "what might have been" over and over?

Hell... not only did they not win it, they did not even get in it.
Just like they did not get in the NLCS.
Just like they did not win a single playoff game again this year.

Complaining that the World series did not seem right without the Cubs is like moaning that the Super Bowl just won't be the same without the Detroit Lions.

Cubs stink..they are losers and chokers and will always be thus.
they will find a way to beat themselves first time every time and no matter what Mr homebody Derosa says won't make any diffeence...they still suck and so do their fans.
