Lots of stars for Bears

| | Comments (26)

How about game ball to Ron Turner? I thought he called a great game. And Kyle Orton continues to look like a franchise quarterback.

The only down side was the defense again, but with 3rd and 4th string corners, it's hard for the defense.

At least they got some pressure on the quarterback.

Perfect time for the bye week for the Bears.

Yoinks!

Nice to see Ron Turner win a game, rather than lose it.

My only beef about this game was Babichs refusal to blitz more, which actually would have helped the corners. The few times he did call a blitz Frerotte was forced to throw quick and erratically. How long does it take for a professional offensive coordinator to get the bus moving? Not this long! NO GAME BALL!!!

We'll play much better in Minny.

Go Bears!!!

Great timing to get a win and a bye week to heal Tillman, Vasher, Hester, Lloyd, etc. Still need more pressure on opposing QBs. Orton has been outstanding and the o-line better than expected so far.

Ron Turner does not get credit for this one b/c it looked to me that when the offense ran well (in the no-huddle) Kyle was calling the plays. And when the offense didn't run well (in the huddle) Turner was calling the plays. Orton deserves a lot of credit and if anyone on the offense gets the game ball it is Orton and not Turner.

I think the bye week comes in at the right moment, I need a breather from all of these close games! I just want to say that Kyle is looking better and better every week and the offense is finally clicking so far. There were at times that the defense got to me, but they came through and I have to say that Tommie Harris' last stop for a loss was great to see.

Bear Down!!

Good game. Don't really know what to say. I am not used to a shoot out clearly favoring the Bears. The Bears simply had more weapons than the Vikings. They only had to punt when they got conservative.
WOW!!! What an offense. A passing offense that is.

Questions for after the bye.
1. Will the O-line run block better? Will Chris Williams be a big or small part of that? Consequently, will the Bears be able to average 140 yards per game on the ground?

2. Can the D-line get pressure with the front 4? Will T. Harris step up? Can they stay healthy on defense?

3. Potentially how dangerous are the Bears if they get their pass defense figured out (AKA: Harris becomes a force)? If they average 4 sacks per game, could they go 8-1 over their last 9 with this offense?

Bears won a HUGE game today! That is awesome. 2-0 in the division with Detroit @ CHI after the bye. This team is talented enough to win 8 of their last 9 games, but I fear the defensive play calling will hold them back. I know players must make more plays, but the Bears still managed to get pressure in late 2006 without Harris and Brown out for the season. I just keep thinking it is the scheme. Oh well, they got away with it today. Got the bye week to shore up and get healthy.

GO BEARS!!

Great win for The Bears !! I'm worried about this "D", offense puts 48 on the board and I'm biting my finger nails hoping the D can hold a 7 point lead with 3 min. left. How long has it been since the offense carried the defense ? Also, would be nice if the coaching staff knew anything about run blocking. Thanks Kyle, you kept us in the game and put up enough points so the D does'nt have to take heat for 2 weeks during the bye.I miss Ron Rivera

It is a good time for a bye week. But, when the Bears come back to play they'll still have the most underachieving defense in the NFL!

As evidence I submitt today's effort. Long time journeyman Gus Frerott threw four interceptions, special teams scored two touchdowns, the offense added 34 points and the defense had to have a last minute interception by a rookie corner back to save them from another fourth quarter melt down loss! This Bear defense now has to answer what I call the "Bobby Howry question"... how big a lead does the team have to have to be safe? It appears that 17 points is about the right number. Even at that it got pretty interesting at the end.

Big changes should be made and I mean BIG! Babich fired, Urlacher takend off the field if he's not going to be effective, Tommie Harris if he can't pay attention to make more than two plays a game, Mike Brown if he's going to be late in coverage and start Grahm over Vasher. But, on defense it's like a supreme court appointment- you've got the job for life!

I couldn't agree more. Perfect time for a bye week.

The commentators made a good point though. Sometimes you have games like this. Vikings have a solid D and they also gave up a lot of yards. It was just one of those games.

One point on the D. Although they gave up a ton of yards they got 4 picks with rookie/practice secondary. The D gave Kyle a short field a few times, so overall they weren't that bad.

Orton looks like a potential pro-boller. Getting better with every game.

A week off, some healing, and its heads on for the division. No dominant teams this year (althought Tennesse will be litmus test). Win the division, make the playoffs, and its a crap shoot.

After today, its within reach

SCORE 48 POINTS AND HAVE TO SWEAT IT OUT THEY STINK ...........

Great Game.....Fun to Watch
Having Forte Really takes the sting out of the Vikings having Peterson.

Our down lineman Pass Rush is still weak...i know we couldnt put too much pressure with Blitz with weakened and depleted secondary.

and...

Orton looks like he is finding his comfort zone.

I really like the looks of the offense. His timing gets better every game.

3rd down and the game on the line is our weakest facet!

The Orton Fun-Vee is rocking!! 2 TDs (actually threw for three but Clark wanted to give another Bear some ink), no INTs and looked strong all day. Even the bootleg finally worked!!!!

Keep throwing to the TEs, Kyle. They will lead you to the promised land.

O-line did a stellar job.

During the bye week, I would like to say "bye bye" to Babich.

Our defense sucks -- Griese, Ryan and Ferotte light them up for 1000 passing yards. Not exactly future hall of famers or QBs that strike fear into the hearts of Defensive Coords -- except for ours.

We didn't get enough pressure on the QB. That said, I thought Alex Brown played very well and Tommie Harris finally showed up.

I think the key for the Bears the remainder of the season is to be up by three TDs will less than 7 minutes left to play in the game. Then we might be able to relax. 2 TDs just doesn't seem to be a big enough lead the way our defense is playing.

It was great to see Wolfe score! He's a great kid!

They still have to stop running Forte right up the middle over and over again.
Every time they pitch out to him something good happens. He has the ability to cut it back to the middle if needed.

Please please PLEASE stop running that worthless cover-2defense!
The league figured that one out over two years ago. They are wasting the talents of Briggs and Urlacher and giving up huge chunks of yardage by clinging to a scheme that does not work.

4th and 16 and you let them have it? Stop playing not to lose and attack the damn QB already.

Ky-le! Ky-le! Ky-le!

Kyle is our quarterback! He is lookin' good. Surprisingly good. I think the play calling is starting to reflect his strengths, utilizing the TE's early, and recognizing you can win - and score a LOT - without throwing a deep ball. And has anyone else noticed that the O-line problems of the recent past seem to have vastly improved with Kyle under center. The biggest difference between Kyle and that other guy is that Kyle doesn't panic under pressure. Who'd ever think we'd win a game in which the opponent scored 41 on us?

Defense, ummmm. Yuck. Sounds strange to say after a 4 interception day with 2 key sacks late. But still, yuck. Gotta get healthy in a hurry.

Awesome game, a victory and evermore confidence in Kyle! Happy Monday, everyone!

The bye week coming up couldn't have come at a better time. Great game yesterday, but 41 points given up? Man, I know we were missing some starters on defense, but we still shouldn't have given up that many points, especially not to that offense. Gotta come up with more than just the Cover-2 scheme sometimes.

Anytime the Bears win it's reason to celebrate. So, WOO-HOO! What a fun game to watch. But with that being said, Lovie and/or Babich need to be fired! They did it again in the last half of the 4th quarter. Cover-2! They didn't even try to disguise it, just straight-look Cover-2. Frerotte passed along the seams and in a few minutes that 17 point lead became only a 1 TD lead. It's a pattern that you can't ignore. I could care less how many points the D allowed, but when they needed to close out the game, coaches went back into their shell with the Cover-2 and realistically could have given another one away.

Roman, I think Ron Turner has done some great things making the O more aggresive, but a WR reverse on the last play to get a first??????? The guy consistently has brain cramps in those moments. Ugh!

Congrats to Wolfe on his first TD, Bowman too on his TD and pick, and yes, the bye week couldn't have come at a better time!

I think Orton looks terrific. Right now he's throwing lightning bolts all over the field with a ton of confidence. Hell, he even has old-man-river Marty Booker looking like Reggie Bush with that speed burst touchdown he ran yesterday.

Pete W. --

Sometimes the commentators just talk, but don't add any real value. Yes, there are days where the D stinks it up, but we got 5 turnovers to the Vikings 1 and they STILL put up 41 points on our multi-million dollar defense that is supposed to be the HALLMARK of a Lovie Smith team.

I was beginning to worry that our offense was scoring too quickly and that meant that our DEFENSE was going to have to go back out on the field.

At one point, I turned to my wife and wondered if a 17 point 4th quarter lead would hold up.

Lovie and Babich better use the bye week to re-educate their defense. If teams are going to move to a three-step drop on all passes, what are we doing to counter that???? Right now, it looks like we don't have a single clue.

Lovie seems unable to make defensive adjustments -- during the game, during the season or during his tenure.

He is wasting a lot of high priced talent on the defense.

SCORE 48 POINTS AND HAVE TO SWEAT IT OUT THEY STINK
****

Mr. Taylor I take offense (pun intended) to your post. There are plenty of Chicago Bears fans who are tired of the 3rd and two to four yards and still run the ball and get stuffed. I liked the shoot-out! Do I want it all the time? No! But darn-it, I LIKED IT! It was fun and exciting and yes, I was worried the Defense was not going to come up with the big play to STOP the Vikings with a 48-41 lead. If the Bears had won 48-21, the game would have been over at half-time. The defense is hurting but still came up with a couple of big plays at the end of the game.

That is all that happen the previous week when losing with one second on the clock. NOT ONE BIG PLAY BY THE DEFENSE!

So hell yeah, I liked this game. It lets me know the Chicago Bears can play catch-up football and get in a shoot-out with another team if needing to win this way. Everybody has this funky 20 to 17 or 24 to 21 scores must times. There are sports columnists who have scores at 17 to 14 as winning scores. That is the most boring football in the world. LETS AIR IT OUT IF WE GOT THE WEAPONS AND CAN DO IT! Stop this managing the game and go out and win the DAMN game.

Klye Orton went out and WON the game as he did the previous week. The defense NEEDS to comprehend - just make a play every so often when getting the lead or only trailing by two scores.

Did anyone see that Raiders' game? Darn can that dude kick! A fifty-seven yarder and it still had plenty of room to clear the crossbar!

I like blow-outs, but shoot-outs are just as fun! Some of you guys or gals don't have the stomach to be real Bear Fans. This ain't your 1985 Chicago Bears! Okay!

Good game all around to the entire team! THEY WON DARN-IT! That is all that matters and it was exciting football!

I will say this again, if your receiver drops a pass go back to him again and again. He has to bust one! Now count the receivers who dropped a pass but Orton came back to them and they eventually scored.

I don't care if the defense had a bad day. We act like Minnesota don't play defense. Didn't we shred them when needed? Didn't we out-run them when needed? Didn't we fake up the middle and went left while cruising into the end-zone? Dog-gonit, quit complaining and enjoy this week's high-lights.

Again this is not the 1985 Chicago Bears defense. And for that matter not the one which took us to the Super Bowl a few years back. NOW LET THE OFFENSE DO ITS THING AND ENJOY IT! and cheer the defense to make a play to stop the opposition when it is needed.

Go Chicago Bears!

Right. "Bears'Fan"

I agree. This is a great offense so far, and I believe it will be for the remainder of the year. This is a legitimate minimum top-10 offense right now.

I also agree this is not your 85 D. But this D has the personnel to be a top -10 defense. They just have to be more aggressive. Not stupid aggressive. They have to get exotic. They have to get crazy.

They have the personnel to run a 3-4 on certain occasions, and w/o changing up packages to disguise their alignment. They could run the "46" defense a few times a game. Again, just for a look. Just to see if it rattles the opposing offense once.

Just to change up something. If not, and they keep getting burned (and it costs Bears the playoffs), Babich is gone. The "soon-to-be-fired" Marinelli (from Det) would be the top candidate to replace Babich. He was Lovie's top pick for D coordinator when he first got here. Keep that in mind.

But if they do switch it up, and start playing "BEAR DEFENSE", they should dominate. Go 7-2 or 8-1 if they can fix the defense.

No doubt, Roman's five interns are busy posing for one of QuickTakes "Best Looking Interns at a Major Metropolitan Daily Newspaper Blogsite" contest. They are just having difficulty finding the skimpiest outfits to wear (especially the male interns).

Yikes, what you have to do to get a job in print/online media nowadays.
