Frequent blog star Sweeney suggested this topic, and I think it's an interesting one.
My Cubs beat writer, Gordon Wittenmyer - who is the best in the business, scoffed at the question when I saw him in the office tonight. The implication being the Cubs have much more momentum.
Really?
Ok, the Sox had lost five in a row before winning their last three, but for all intents and purposes the Sox have won two playoff games the last two days.
The last playoff game I remember for the Cubs was while I was sitting in Wrigley watching the D-backs sweep the Cubs out of the playoffs.
And the Cubs wrapped up their Division a while ago and have been sitting around.
The Cubs and Sox swept each other out of their ballparks this season, so while I'll agree the Cubs have more talent, I think the White Sox have more momentum.
Hopefully we'll see both of them playing each other in a few weeks.
You are right Roman. But the CUBS have the best team and are in the best league. Cubs would not want to see the Sox right now. In fact Tampa has its hands full. I pray that the Sox wake all the way up! Can you imagine what we would be like with a healthy Crede, Quinton, and Contreras?!?!
Live chat for Cubbies game today???
MOMENTUM IS TOMORROW'S STARTING PITCHER
Please everyone, remove your hats and eat them.
Roman, I have to go with the Sox. If you put a gun to my head I could not name the Sox starting line up or even one of the pitchers in the starting rotation, but as a baseball fan I did watch the playoff games they played on Monday and Tuesday. I think the Sox have that "we MUST win" look in their eyes, they needed it it was a must win. The Sox can carry that over.
Having said that, the Cubs have never lost the momentum. I have my ticket and my broom for the game three at Dodger Stadium. Should I wear the official lid or the 1908 classic lid?
I would like to know where the people who teeter on the tight rope of Madison Ave.(e.g.Roman and Johnny Cusack) are going to stand in the event of a cross town Series. Will it be the home team, or which ever jersey is clean? How does that go? However it goes this is going to be a fun October; even from out here on the left coast.
Aloha Chicago. Congratulations to both sides.
GO CUBS!!!!!!!!
As a White Sox Fan and a Cub HATER, obviously the White Sox have MORE momentum. To play two games which were WIN or GO HOME, the White Sox got the job done. This team know it can't rely solely on talent, BUT ON GRIT, GUTS and DETERMINATION.
Ken Griffery with the throw to home-plate to get a guy out. Come on! How many of you thought he still had enough in that arm to throw somebody out from the outfield? Way to go Jr.!!
We got the right amount of veterans who want that ring that has been elusive and know this is the last go-around to get it. Jim Thome still blasting home-runs over 450 feet! YEAH BABY!! This team worked harder to get TO THE PLAYOFFS this time, and I refused to believe a Devil in a baseball uniform or nice weather in Tampa will distact the 2008 Divisional Champs - The Chicago White Sox.
Cubbie Fans - Too Bad Your Hard work will gone down the drain again.
YEA WHITE SOX! GO WHITE SOX! Cubbie Fans don't try stealing our Black Out Night with a Day-Time Blue In! It just ain't the same.
John Danks drove a Tank over the Twinkies with his pitching and all they saw was a Black-Out throughout the evening and wondered why the hell are we not in the DOME where there is light? okay its corny, but what the hell, we White Sox Fans are celebrating and those damn Twinkie Fans are NOT!!
WAY TO GO WHITE SOX NATION WITH THE BLACK-OUT!!! Let that be our theme for the playoffs against all teams coming into WHITE SOX PARK!!...Yes, White Sox Park....
WSF-
I wouldn't go with that blackout thing more than once, or did you not see the Georgia/Bama game last Saturday. Maybe try something more original.
White Sox Fan, I have to agree with you about keeping the blackout theme for the playoffs. (sorry sweeney!) I was there last night and it was so awesome. Just about all in attendance wore black - and it felt even better than it looked. That was some serious Sox Pride right there, and you could feel it in your veins. That's why I love Sox fans and I love being a Sox fan. And after watching the end end of the Cubs game right now, I can say this - if the Sox had lost last night, everyone would have just left. It would have been quiet, but we would've never booed like the Wrigley faithful just did.
Julie good post! I am happy for my team and the entire organization that has worked extremely hard to get that particular showing on the Southside (real sox fans). And the team did not disappoint! Ozzie is so smart and knows EXACTLY what he is talking about - accent and all. That crowd made me proud. That team came through and blew me away. And that manager expressed how the organization feels. Gave me goosebumps! Thats Southside Pride, and I will take that any day of the week and twice on Sunday! THAT is something that REAL. Thats Love and Respect for the Game! Right back atcha Ozzie! Right Back!
White sox who i think the CUBS have all the momentum playing all their games at wrigley in front of them wild fans ok L.A got the first game still a long way to go CUBS know they was almost there if it wasing for the fan who grab the ball from Mois Alou in the playoffs couple of years ago.
Well we can see its not the Cubs with the momentum. I have put my broom in the closet for a dusty day.
The Cubs remind me of a crack addict. The playoffs are like their first paycheck. They clean them selves up, start making the right decisions again, really get their lives back on track. Everyone is proud of them, but can't really trust them (similar the crowd at Wrigley last night) because they cleaned out your house the last time you did. Then they get their first paycheck from their great new job, that they have been working really hard at, spend it all on crack, and fall right back into that hole of despair. Enjoy the high from the pipe boys because its the only one your going to enjoy this year if you don't get your heads out of your asses quick.
GO CUBS
All the Cubs need is one game. And Harden is the man that will make that happen.
Sox need tonight's game. If Buehrle can't beat them - we are done.
*Typing on blackberry - FIRE ALL SOX FANS!!!!
What...Sweeney?
Oh yeah..you are so right. My wife called Chicago, the Ohio St. of Baseball. She said they kick butt all year, get you all hyped up, believing you can be somebody, and then when it really counts.....post season...???
NOTHING!
