Randy Couture returns to the UFC and will defend his heavyweight title on Nov. 15 against Brock Lesnar. The plan is to get Fedor in the UFC and set up a Couture-Fedor battle.
The announcement was made today and is a huge coup for the UFC. Couture and the UFC have had a legal battle for a year as Couture wanted to leave the UFC to fight Fedor, who is under contract with Affliction.
But the UFC wouldn't release him and said he hadn't yet fulfilled his contract.
So Dana White did the smart business move and got Couture to come back and White said he expects Affliction to be out of the MMA business in the next couple of months.
Stay tuned.
I know I shouldnt comment on everything....and I rarely do on Sox threads, although they could use my help....I had an idea for the MMA threads.
Video?
You need to have Rickdogg post a link or two of these guys kicking each other to the Neck and face and or choking each other out with their own gui's.
The Right placed Youtube link can make all the difference...
How old is Randy going to be by the time he gets to Emelianenko? Lesnars a joke and Randy is old. What happens when Lesnar knocks out Couture with one of those over sized meat hooks? What does Mr. White do then?
Isn't it Dana who says "match-ups make the fight" Is Lesnar/ Couture a good one? If that's the thinking put together a Kimbo/Couture bout.
How about Nogueira, solidify the heavyweight championship and then bring on Fedor.
Roman can you get me ringside on the 25th? I'll fly in! Beers on me! Come on!
Fedor would be a tough challenge for Couture. his best hope is to use the cage for a clinch war. most of the fighters who fought in PFC except A. Silva have had a tough time adapting from the ring to the cage. Dana White seems to be trying to spice it up by following the PFC formula of finding athletic monstrosities to fight skilled fighters. Lesnar is a gimick and would be better suited to battle Bob Sapp. his inclusion into the UFC is a great business move to continue to draw from the legions of pro wrestling fans, but may be a sign that it will become more theatrical. to tell you the truth I have watched most of the different MMA events from the begining and it is getting a little stale. the level of skills and training has gone up but the actual techniques used in the fights has become somewhat limited. with a few exceptions the striking is unsofisticated and the ground game lacks the dynamic flare that it once had. Roman
what would you like to see as the next stage of evolution for MMA? Dana White being in town for the Chicago event would be a tremendous oportunity to have him answer some questions from your blog.
Sweeney Kimbo sucks, he has slow hands, no ground skills, no stamina and onece he is on his back he he is like a turtle. The guy has zero skill. At least Lesner can wrestle at an elite level and has shown decent hands and knees.
Karl maybe Lesner is a gimic but he did just totally dominate a decent fighter. Couture is to small to fight Brock, Brock is a freak of nature and his wrestling is better than Couture's. I don't think it's a good matchup for Randy, I would rather see Fedor.
Karl I do think your right that the UFC has become more formulated, there really does seem to be a certain style taking over. As for the striking I would not say Silva and GSP are unsofisticated strikers. There not Boxers, but there not wearing boxing gloves either and there not being forced to stand and just punch. If anything it's not the hands but the feet that are different, but I wouldn't say unsofisticated.
Personally I am not going to begrudge Lesner if he want's to fight in the UFC. He is already rich and he does not make nearlly as much money in the UFC as he did in wrestling. He just wants to compete and I respect that, he is a bit of a meat head but like a lot of MMA guys he has a wrestling background and athletic ability. He also seems to be working on his skills to become more of a MMA fighter. My guess is within a couple of years he will be the ranked #1 heavyweight in the world.
That matchup was a joke Creighton just like Lesnar. If you want to argue who is the bigger joke Kimbo or Brock, I don't know take your pick. Hey, they should fight each other in clown suits that would sell tickets!
Creighton A. Silva is the most sophisticated fighter in the UFC. GSP is the most athletic, but lacks true striking ability. Brock Lesner used to be a great wrestler in colledge. the way he built his body up for pro wrestling seems to inhibit his use of technique. things missing in MMA striking are - proper use of distance, defense, head/body movement, combinations, clean technique....... there isn't a single fighter in MMA who could win a world championship in boxing, kick boxing, K-1 or Muay Thai. unfortuantely that works both ways with the champions of those sports winning in MMA. I think that many people are waiting for the top 10 boxer wearing 4 oz. gloves who can avoid getting taken down and being creamed on the ground. until that time it will be more of the same mash a guy up against the cage toughman contest. bring it on!
