Obama's got it wrong

| | Comments (77)

Barack Obama was just joking when he said baseball fans at Wrigley aren't serious. And those who believe baseball fans reside only on the South Side are wrong.

I know there are plenty of people who go to Wrigley to party and check out the girls. But there are plenty of hard-core baseballs fans at Wrigley. Especially this season.

People are paying more attention to the baseball this year on the North Side. I've been to enough games to have seen the difference, whether it's cheering Reed Johnson for breaking up a double-play or acknowledging the contributions of a guy they used to hate in Jim Edmonds.

I know Obama was kidding. I'm a fan of his and I admire him for picking a lane and sticking to it. And the Sox could reward his loyalty by going all the way. But when you're pursuing an elected office, it might be wise not to distance yourself too much from what seems to be something special brewing on the North Side.

So many things race to my mind to talk about with regards to this post.

I'll try to be brief..

1. He got the Iraq war and surge wrong too, so lets not be too harsh on him, he doesnt always get it right the first time.

2. Define - A True Fan? Like, does keeping score and knowing when to perform the rarely used double switch make you a fan? Does knowing your teams signal for Bunt? Make you a fan? I am so sick of this argument made by begrugded sox fans. Your Stadium sucks, get over it.

3. You are right about his seeming unawareness of the pitfalls of not supporting his own winners.

4. Weird that someone in the media is a fan of Obama..i thought all you guys leaned McCain.

Roman responds: Why did I know you'd be the first to respond.

Why oh why did he have to go there? In fact why do fans of either team (although, to be frank, it seems like sox fans have to define themselves by their hatred of the cubs) have to bother with denigrating the other team. It's not like they are in the same division. Save your ire for St. Louis and Minnesota.

I am certainly not dumb enough to change my vote based on this but it's kind of disappointing.

man does that make me mad about obama he is a jerk and I sure hope his comment about the CUBS cost him the election I know one vote he won't get then who would be serious

Roman responds: From the tone of your email, I'm guessing it doesn't really matter how he feels about Cubs' fans.

The United States of America got the Iraq war wrong.

Just a little friendly banter from Obama.

Its not like Rod Blagojevich doesn't give the same kind of treatment to the Sox. He has stated publicly on numerous occasions that he is a cub fan and will not support the Sox at any time. For example, he didn't wear a White Sox hat in support for the team in 2005.

My point is, who cares if Obama is a White Sox fan. It has nothing to do with his political views. If someone actually looks down upon him because he cares more about the white sox then the cubs, well then they are the ones with the issues.

I applaud Barack Obama for declaring his loyalty to his team. Hillary Clinton made me sick when she tried to claim that she was a Cubs fan and then switched to being a Yankee fan when she became a Senator in New York. I enjoy a political figure that will take a stand. I wouldn't want Mayor Daley to suddenly root for the Cubs. But Barack decided to take the path of many White Sox fans when they are declaring their loyalty...by bashing the Cubs. I guess no matter how successful they become, all White Sox fans concentrate more on what is going on in Wrigleyville than in their own park.

I'd be willing to bet that Barack doesn't watch the games and standings as closely as myself and most Cub fans. I travel all of the time for business and the first thing that I do when I land is check the scores/updates on my phone. I flew from Chicago to Dallas last year and caught the end of the Cubs game against the Reds in late September on my laptop because O'Hare couldn't broadcast the game. I had the flight attendant going to the cockpit every 30 minutes to give me an update on the Brewers/Padres game. I found out that we clinched the NL Central 35,000 feet in the air. I seriously doubt that Mr. Obama has that kind of loyalty.

Statepolitics, excellent point. I have never once seen Blagojevich mention or even support the White Sox in 2005. Mayor Daley a known White Sox fan at least wore a Cub hat at the Playoff Rally last year for the Cubs. Im pretty sure Obama was joking around and to switch your vote based on that comment is ludicrous. Who cares who the politicians root for, lets vote for them based on the real issues in the United States.

I'm a Republican / Libertarian, although I have crossed the aisle to vote for the occasional Democrat now and then.

But I can't fathom the kind of utter stupidity a person would have to suffer from in order for him or her to make their own personal decision as to who they thought should lead this country based on anything that had to do with sports.

That takes the cake.

Ray sez: "I'd be willing to bet that Barack doesn't watch the games and standings as closely as myself and most Cub fans. And would it make you feel better about Obama if he did spend that much time and effort every day fixating on a baseball team.

It would scare the living s#!t out of me.

Quote by Mike: "Statepolitics, excellent point. I have never once seen Blagojevich mention or even support the White Sox in 2005."

Why is that a bad thing? Wouldn't it be fantastic if everyone was like this? You know, they don't even MENTION the other team? That's the whole point behind all of this. Barack should shut up and concentrate on his own team. That goes for all of you.

And Villano, YES, I would like ANYONE that claims to be a fan of a team to at least know the outcome of that day's game. It doesn't take 2 minutes to flip open a cell phone and check a score.

CUBS RULE!!

VOTE RON PAUL 2008!

Obama has a fairly low VORP (Value Over Replacement Politician). Let's not put a lot of stock in what he says.

And I thought that Red Sox fans were pathetic.
Why is it that Cub fans get all pissy at the first mention of something that does not proclaim the greatest thing in sports since the invention of the jock strap?
With the exception of Packer fans I have never seen a fan base that takes themselves so seriously and at the same time are so thin skinned.
You want the whole world to love you. Not your team but you, the Cubbie fans.

You crybabies want Obama to pretend that he is just as much a Cub fan as he is a Sox fan to make you happy? You are the ones who get all misty because Bill Murray blesses you with his approval. Believe me, not everyone admires you as much as you admire yourselves.
I can’t imagine how obnoxious you will be if the Cubs actually win the World Series some day.
Grow up already!

Culz you know you love Mccain because he bought 5 of his 10 (or is it twelve) houses from you. Fans at Wrigley are too busy socializing and talking on their cell phones to be serious about the game. At least the Sox fans waited until they fielded a good team before they went to the games. When the true Cubs fan got tired of backing a loser and decided to stay home and watch on TV they had their place taken by opportunist who like the atmosphere more than the games. And since we're mentioning politics why are the die-hard Republicans always the guys who are still making money in this Republican climate like Culzie? If you're broke and out of a job and close to being out of your house can you still qualify as a Republican or does that make you an automatic Democrat.

I am still a big Obama supporter, but those comments really pissed me off, games @ Wrigley are what baseball is all about. But I still will vote for him, we can't have another 4 years of republican b.s.

Peace

Obama, your inferiority complex is showing. Time and again, Sox fans bring out this tired stereotype; this coming from a fan base that only fills the park when the team is doing well or a gimmick like Elvis Night. You certainly don't hear Cub fans commenting on how Sox fans love to attend games just to get a chance to run on the field to jump an ump or a defenseless first base coach.

And philtration, if you want to imagine how obnoxious Cub fans are going to be when we win the World Series this year - just think back to how bad Sox fans were in 2005 and multiply it tenfold - we're going to give it to you just as hard as you gave it to us. Plus the added bonus of the whole nation celebrating the Cubs is going to irk the hell out of Sox fans, who were pretty much ignored by the country after a day or two in 2005.

I am an Obama fan, but this was a stupid remark. Cubs fans are just as, if not more, knowledgable, than Sox fans. People who say stupid comments like that obviously are not very good baseball fans, because it doesn't get more "baseball" than the Chicago Cubs. Go Chicago Cubs and Go Obama!

Barack, you've got to know this: every Cubs fan isn't a beer-swilling party boy. I'd be willing to bet more Cubs fans live & die by their team than Sox fans.

Irrespective of sports views, we're in your camp. You've got 4 votes. Run a kick-butt campaign over the next two months and restore some kind of dignity to the White House.

Not that anything any politician says would sway my voting agenda, but this is a bit irresponsible for someone in his position to say.

His comments are a stereotype. Like me saying I wouldn't vote for him because I hate my neighbor, and he practices the same religion.

Root for your team because you love your team, not because you want to hate the other team in Chicago.

Who cares what a sox fan thinks about cubs fans? They do seem to be fixated on the people at wrigley having fun, and the pretty women too. Could be jealousy or maybe it is the high degree of various sorts of perversions found at sox's ballpark (what is it called again?) Also, many of the fans at wrigley are out of towners and tourists who are just visiting chicago and want to experience the greatness of wrigley and cubs baseball. While most of these visitors aren't really long time cubs fans, they shouldn't be criticized for having a good time visiting chicago and wrigley field. It they ever did go to a sox game (what's the name of that stadium again?) they would just be scared.

Besides, if Obama, the sox fan, was such a great baseball fan himself, he might have mentioned what team has the best record in the majors. Here is a hint, it isn't the team that plays in that other ballpark, you know the not wrigley one, what's it called again? just joking...

Obama sticking to the Sox and stiffing the Cubs won't hurt him any here. Chicago votes blindly Democratic anyway (and probably rigs the results), and Illinois' vote won't be close.

Cubs fans, and McCain followers, if you have that second house in Indiana, Arizona, or Florida please register to vote there so that your vote can matter!

Cubs are for real, but most of its fans are not serious about baseball. They want the cubs to win, but most of them could care less as long as they get their party on. If there was a way to close all those bars and dry that place up, ban cell phones and get a dress code going (cover those girls up). I wonder how many fans would REALLY even bother. Cubdom is the SAME win or lose. Instead of tickets to get in they should have guys dressed in black with shades on like at studio 54! They have a hand full of diehard number-crunching, farm-watching, pitch-counting, score-card-keeping fans. Barack was NOT talking about those guys. He was talking about the majority. Nothing worse than a person with brand new gear on (with shades on) that cannot name 5 players on the team. Looking for Sammy Sosa! Drunk as a skunk, redish orange tan, standing in front of you belligerently screaming on the cell phone and waving their hands to someone at home.

Oregon - You mean 2005 World Champion Chicago White Sox!
Ha!Ha!Ha!Ha!Ha!Ha!Ha!

More sound and fury signifying nothing.Sometimes silence is golden for both blogges and politicians.

I can just see Cub fans voting for McCain just because of this.
Pretty sad.
After reading the comments here....

I see Cub fans whining about their stereotyped fans while they love to stereotype Sox fans every chance they get.

I see Cub fans whining about "Who cares what Sox fans think?" yet they are the first ones to bash everyone else when no one really asked them. You must care what Obama (a Sox fan) thinks or you would not be so hurt right now.

I see Cub fans whining about Sox fans for taking pleasure in winning the World Series while they boast about a possible playoff appearance and threaten to "multiply it tenfold" if they actually win one. You want to win a title just so you can throw it in the faces of White Sox fans? Look who has the inferiority complex going on.
I would say “Act like you have been there before” but that does not apply for you now does it?

I seriously doubt that "whole nation will be celebrating the Cubs" if they won a World Series. That comment alone shows how delusional some of you guys really are.
Packer fans really believe that the rest of the world cares about them too. How sick of the Brett Favre thing were you just a few weeks ago? THAT is how the rest of the nation will feel about a Cubs championship. Do Cub fans care about the Red Sox ending their long drought?
If you win it then enjoy it but don’t expect the world to stop for you because of it.

I'm sorry but can someone explain to me again why it's wrong to have fun at a ballgame? Since we seem to be discussing fandom in terms of majorities and minorities I'd bet the MAJORITY of ALL baseball fans would agree that
a)Drinking beer is ok.
b)people can wear whatever they want even if it distracts you "die-hards" from your scorecards.
c)Suntans are ok.
d)There are fans everywhere who are annoying, and you don't have to be drunk or on a cell-phone to be annoying. If you expect other people to comply with what you consider proper fan behavior then you are delusional and would probably be happier on your couch.
e)Scorecards aren't for everyone and not having one that has been properly filled out doesn't negate "die-hard" status.
f)Even bringing up the idea (meaning you've gieven it at least some serious thought in the past) of closing bars, implementing dress codes, and cell-phone bans at sporting events is SUPER LAME

this discussion never changes and never gets old...if either side ever conceded that the stereotypes were true it would stop being fun:) ... go cubs

The only thing I like about Obama is that he is a fan of S-Side Hitmen. The definition of a "true" baseball fan is one that knows & appreciates the talent on the field. I am proud to be a White Sox fan but I must admit I am envious of some Cub talent.

The dream of every White Sox fan right now should be WSox vs Cubs in the World Series with the AJ factor burning the Cubs. Just imagine life as a Cub fan in Chicago after that?!

Since Roman opened the door to politics here I'll slam it shut.

Iraq War: 5 countries serve on the UN Sec Council & 3 of them were involved with the Oil for Food scandal that put some $18 Billion in the hands of Saddam to strengthen his Republican Guard. It represents the world's biggest financial scandal in modern history. Unless you depend on Stewart's Daily Show for the main source of your political knowledge, it should be clear war was inevitable. Better then than now.

Don't be a maroon. Vote your pocket book. McCain is too liberal for some (wealthy, corp America) & too conservative for others (those in need of aborting human life &/or removing God from American "public" life, &/or teaching about the "normalcy" of gay's/bi's/tran's to 5 yr olds.). Seems like the perfect guy to represent "middle" America to me.

Nice going Barack for being loyal. I will put that in the pro column.

At least he doesn't wear two jerseys like Cusack does. Wheres that sox jersey now Johnny? A few years back in the closet I'd say. Keep it, you never know when you might need it again.

Barack, pissing off the Cub fans might be worse than pissing off the Hillary fans at this point. I would lay low with the soxs fan angle until November also, you might be able to tie in some WS tickets to the campaign trail. It might just be one big party in Chitown that week.

Go Cubs!

Aloha!

The Cubs have spent more time in first place this year than this guy has spent in Senate business the last 3 years.

I haven't posted on here for a while but my gosh this has got to be the dumbest thing I have read in the Sun-Times in a while. People bashing Obama about him declaring himself a Sox Fan. Roman, to say that it might not be wise to distance himself from something possibly "special" on the Northside basically just jumped all of this off. Maybe that was the intention I don't know. Sox fans have been saying the same thing Obama said for years, just like Cubs fans have been throwing attendance in Sox fan's faces for years. It's how we rib and jive each other, it's just how it goes. If anyone is dumb enough to not vote for a candidate or have hard feelings because of Obama's baseball affiliation doesn't that show how dumb these so called fans are? Let me guess, this statement will bring out the "oh the people that said those things aren't real Cubs fans"...uh huh....just like the fans wearing the caricatures of Fukodome weren't real fans. ...I can guarantee that Sox fans don't give a rats @$$ about Lisa Madigan being a Cubs fan, and we don't care that Daley is a Sox fan either btw. We only get pissed off at the pretenders, the ones pandering to one side or another simply for their own benefit, like the tons of people bussed in to sing the 7th inning stretch in Wrigley who don't give "two cents of a damn" about the Cubs, but want people to buy their/ watch their/ support their >>Fill in the blank here

And while I am at it, I am so tired of hearing Cubs fans in the last few years ripping their "non" fans(their words).......the people from Iowa(who just come down to see majestic Wrigley Field), the people from Milwaukee(who just come down to see majestic Wrigley Field),the tourists, the ones who just fill up the seats and drink and watch the hot chicks and are on their phones all the time(again, Cubs fans have told me this) the way the REAL CUBS FANS do(so I keep hearing).....but then you turn around and throw up attendance numbers like they are so special. News flash, if you don't want to ACKNOWLEDGE these people as real fans then you can't turn around and claim their attendance as meaning anything significant.

Roman responds: Welcome back. I love it when people say something is dumb or isn't a story, and then they write about it or talk about it at length. Nice post.

Jaun...I swear to Allah, you sounded like me for a second there...

You go boyee!!

The sad truth is, people would rather hate other people for being successful than actually take the time and energy needed to make it themselves.

They would rather blame some NeoCon conspiricy for all their woes, than actually get out of Bed before 1pm.

You know why I post so much, cause I am up at 5am and dont quit till midnight. EVERY DAY.

Thats why I have been and will continue to be successful.

If you want to be bitter and resentful, hate your peace of S alarm clock for not being able to wake your *** up in the morning.

Vote on that!

ps..i know i posted a comment to WRD and Keylan...hope it didnt get "Fairness Doctrined"

Hate America

Anoonymous was me, not sure how that Hate America got on at the end there. I must've had another thought cued up and forgot to finish it, less not anyone think I hate America.

Also, I did answer you WRD and Keylan, just not sure what happened.

I had to post this in response to WRD's not knowing how many houses McCain has comment...

LOL

THIS IS GONNA GET GOOD.

Obama from a home in Kansas City: I'm 'here in St. Louis'
By Chad Livengood • clivengood@news-leader.com • August 25, 2008

DENVER — Last week, Republican John McCain didn't know how many homes he owns.

Tonight, Democrat Barack Obama didn't know what town he was in.

In a live satellite speech tonight to the Democratic National Convention in Denver from a home in Kansas City, Obama said: "I'm here with the Girardeau family here in St. Louis."

Then came a graphic across the television screen that said Obama was in Kansas City, Mo.

Then 7-year-old Sasha Obama asked: "Daddy, what city are you in?"

"I'm in Kansas City, sweetie," Obama said, correcting his earlier geographic reference.

Obama was at the home in Kansas City tonight to watch his wife Michelle's keynote address, according to his campaign.

Obama is hosting a town hall meeting on Tuesday at the American Airlines facility in Kansas City.

Anyone who would put stock in a candidate based upon his or her choice of sports teams is a complete and utter moron; totally undeserving of the right to even cast a ballot. I've never heard of such idiocy in my life, and to let something as superflous as a person's rooting interests influence your opinion as to whether or not they are the proper political choice is absolutely insane.

Let's see ... FDR likes the Cubs, and Adolpf Hitler is a Sox fan.

I'm voting for Hitler!!!!!!!!!!

Nuts!

Obama is right on target. Cub fans dont care about baseball all they care about is just being in that dump of a ballpark that the media(WGN)has created. This is a true statement. Why should Obama support the Cub fans they might use the N word towards him like they did Dusty, Latroy Hawkins, Jacque Jones, Corey Patterson may I go on? THE MAJORITY OF CUB FANS ARE RACIST AND HAVE NO CLASS. D-Lee, Fukodome watch out...

I don't feel too bad about a guy forgetting where he is compared to a guy forgetting how many houses he has. Travel as much as those guys do and it's bound to happen. I don't want to call McCain senile for not remembering. I'd rather call him elitist. You expect a guy to turn the economy around and he can't even understand what a great number of Americans are faced with. Out of a job and out of a home. He can be evicted 6 times and still have a couple of houses. Sounds very Republican to me. If he was still in the regular job field he wouldn't have a job. Over the legal age to work. And he couldn't retire because social security is bankrupt. C'mon B it doesn't matter how early you get up or how late you stay up not everyone can be a great realtor like you are. No matter how much time they put in. If you didn't know there are plenty of realtors right here in Illinois who can't even sell their own home that they can no longer afford. Maybe you can call them failures for not getting up earlier and staying up later for having such drastic measures happen to them. Just because the ball is bouncing well in your court doesn't mean that you should brag about it. Because any one of us can be felled by an illness or a glut of bad luck (if you want to call it that)at any given moment and there is nothing you can do about it. Even if you have saved well there is a possibilty that it can dry up pretty quick. Count your blessings and don't act like the whole world can be successful like you feel you are. That is elitist. Let em' eat cake. You love to wear your Republican attitude at all times no matter what the situation is. You always bring up the war and how great the republican party is and you'd be hard-pressed to tell what party that most of the people on this blog are because they don't talk so freely about it. How does a guy bring up politics so much in a sports blog? This is the first time Roman made it somewhat political but guess who was waiting in the wings to jump on that situation. I guess it'll always be "look at me ,look at us, the great republicans". Republicans love to work on America's fears of reality. How come we haven't had an orange high alert since Bush told us that Kerry couldn't protect our country? Why haven't there been any alerts but AMBER since Bush won the election? Scare tactics and end arounds. Go Republicans. Or is it republiCANTs?

Quick question Bob K. how much time has McCain put into the Senate over the last year while he also has been hitting the pavement trying to win election? Wouldn't you think that they are both neglecting their state trying to be the head of state?

What do you care what the future president thinks, the last time the Cubs won Theodore Roosevelt was president. Wrigley field is a dump and spells like urine, GO SOX!!!!!! GO OBAMA!!!!!

Hitler? Well Moses was a Cubs fan he said wonder in the desert for a 100 years ya losers....

OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA

Non of you people posting here should be trusted to vote. All you cubs fans are like the people who flock to southern California with mouse ears on. Why don't you go to Harpo studios, Navy Pier, and Wrigley Field. Get on the bus and go back to the corn fields and vote for McCain ....

Illinois Senator Omama is just another arrogant, fabricated-image, air-head politician, who wouldn't know a real baseball fan from the Cubs OR Sox, unless he or she included a contribution to his "fund".

Stick to what you DON'T know Senator B.O..... and that's what's best for America!

I do agree with you Sweeney that loyalty is a desirable quality. I have to admit though, when I saw the interview on ESPN with him claiming that Cubs fans were fair-weather and that nobody watches the games when at Wrigley I was a little bit sour. I have been a diehard Cubs fan for as long as I’ve been able to understand baseball and have been raised in a family of fans. For me it’s more than just the game, it’s the history, it’s the passion. I won’t deny that it is whole lot more fun being a Cubs fan this year than it was in say 2004 or 2005, but that doesn’t mean us true fans abandoned our team (well at least I didn’t).
Barack, take it from someone who experienced heartbreak for the first time as a ten year old in October of 2003, Northsiders can be plenty intense too.

As a Cub fan I am rooting for the Sox. That way when the Cubs beat them in the greatest World Series ever the Sox fans will crawl into a hole so deep no one will ever find them.

As a Cub fan I am rooting for the Sox. That way when the Cubs beat them in the greatest World Series ever the Sox fans will crawl into a hole so deep no one will ever find them.

Let's just say I look forward to the Cubs fan's best revenge - the day when Michelle & Barack Obama host a reception and photo op on the White House Lawn for the 2008 World Champion Chicago Cubs.

Campaign season is stupid season. People hang on the words of a candidate like a cheap chandelier.

Who cares if McCain can't remember how many houses he owns? I'd like him to remember where Iraq is, but the other stuff is not important. His hair, temper, religion, wealth by marriage, height, lovely wife - I could care less.

Culzie, you're not going to vote for Obama anyway, why do you care if he can't remember which part of Missouri he's in? Or what he thinks about the Cubs?

In regards to the "Stadium that Sucks" - Can't wait til you take your little person to Wrigley for the first time and he/she asks you, "Daddy, where is Fundamentals?"

I don't feel too bad about a guy forgetting where he is compared to a guy forgetting how many houses he has. Travel as much as those guys do and it's bound to happen.

- So forgetting where you are, is better than forgetting where you have been? Nah..that doesnt give with reality bud, we all know you forget where you have been, and if you forget where you are, they put you in a HOME and or give you Altzhimers meds....come on Willy.

I don't want to call McCain senile for not remembering. I'd rather call him elitist.

* Navy man/POW/20+year politician vs. Harvard/Lawyer ..and you say McCain is the elitist? Maybe your right, lets not call Obama an elitist, but, what should we call a guy WHO Made it, and then turns around and tells you that YOU CANT MAKE IT?

You expect a guy to turn the economy around and he can't even understand what a great number of Americans are faced with. Out of a job and out of a home. He can be evicted 6 times and still have a couple of houses.

* William, the average American is NOT getting evicted 6 times!

Sounds very Republican to me. If he was still in the regular job field he wouldn't have a job. Over the legal age to work.

* over the legal age to work? is that even a law?

And he couldn't retire because social security is bankrupt.

*Is there anyone who blog here that is retired...not getting their Social Security check? Speak up??

C'mon B it doesn't matter how early you get up or how late you stay up not everyone can be a great realtor like you are.

* TRU

No matter how much time they put in.

* Not true

If you didn't know there are plenty of realtors right here in Illinois who can't even sell their own home that they can no longer afford.

* Im sure a lot of those realtors Sold in 2004-05 and traded UP and got bigger HOMES? and then probably took out bad ARM (adjustable rate mortgages) from a predatory lender for NO money out of pocket and with no DOCS varifying INCOME. I didnt do that.

Maybe you can call them failures for not getting up earlier and staying up later

* Well, what would you call someone who sleeps past 10am daily and doesnt search for clients or work like a mad man?

for having such drastic measures happen to them.

*What drastic measures? Katrina? The great flood of Illinois? The Grant Park Famine of 07?

Just because the ball is bouncing well in your court doesn't mean that you should brag about it.

* #1 I have mad handles, so the ball always bounces well for me.....#2 show me where I bragged. I posted a response to you that Roman didnt post where I spelled out that I am still saving up to be republican, i have 1.5 cars, baby on the way, i am doing a lease purchase on my first home, still paying back student loans that i have defered for 15 years...what have I bragged about? Dont mistake BEING POSITIVE, for bragging homie.

Because any one of us can be felled by an illness or a glut of bad luck (if you want to call it that)at any given moment and there is nothing you can do about it.

* No doubt. Tragedy and death lurk around every corner for you the minute you let your energy level and awareness wane.

Even if you have saved well there is a possibilty that it can dry up pretty quick. Count your blessings and don't act like the whole world can be successful like you feel you are.

* Why not? That is the most ridiculous thing you have said yet. Why on earth cant I feel like the whole world has a chance? Thats exactly what Obama preaches on....Every dark corner of the earth...yatta yatta yatta....(except the corner his half brother lives in)....but still

That is elitist. Let em' eat cake. You love to wear your Republican attitude at all times no matter what the situation is.

* Ive never said I was a republican. I have never voted republican. I voted for Nader, I campiagned for Bill Bradley. I am just smart and find my own facts. I want small govt. Big guns. Gay marriage and the right to choose under the right circumstances are fine with me. I am tough on the border, but support education and health care for everyone. You cant pin me down dawg.

You always bring up the war and how great the republican party is and you'd be hard-pressed to tell what party that most of the people on this blog are because they don't talk so freely about it.

*First of all, find me once, where i say anything about Repulicans. You need to take your filters off and listen to what i say. Second off..I am a man out on a plank, a loan voice in a wolf filled woodlands. I am one of the few people who speak up for those who share my points of view, i would guess that many are left leaning, but I know there are a few who lean in the right direction ;)

How does a guy bring up politics so much in a sports blog? This is the first time Roman made it somewhat political but guess who was waiting in the wings to jump on that situation. I guess it'll always be "look at me ,look at us, the great republicans".

*Let me know how you really feel W.

Republicans love to work on America's fears of reality.

* Fear is a gift (Rage against the Machine). Fear is true internal alchemy. Fear turns into Anger and anger turns into STRENGTH.

Energy from nothing!

How come we haven't had an orange high alert since Bush told us that Kerry couldn't protect our country?

* How come we havent had ONE ATTACK ON US since Bush took office?

Why haven't there been any alerts but AMBER since Bush won the election? Scare tactics and end arounds. Go Republicans. Or is it republiCANTs?

* So, the Islamic Jihad that has been being waged against us Infidels since the time of Christ, is just a figment of our imagination and at worst a manufactured media product designed by a NWO neo con Goverment undercurrent that is set out to KILL US and occasionally build roads and hospitals and schools too?

William...
I am nothing if not someone who wants to lead by example, and motivate others and I never crush dreams or stomp or tread on peoples soul. Everyone in here likes us, we have fun BS ing each other and pulling punches, but nobody takes it too hard.

Lets keep our eyes on the prize, I dont care who gets elected. Obama is my kinda guy actually. I just wish he wouldnt be so America is the worlds problemy, and not so "i Made it, but the world sucksy" and also...i wish he was tougher on "terror" and the borders, but otherwise, we would be boys. Im sure Obama and I would get along great.

Id dunk on his a**, but still, we'd be boyz.

Up for air, Bculz! Otherwise you're going to pass out.

You sound a little "Bull Moose" to me in terms of your beliefs, minus their love for tree-huggers. Libertarian maybe? Entertaining, definitely.

Anyone who quotes Rage against the Machine or Green Day while trying to pretend that they know even a little bit about the world or politics is going to come across as a frightened 17 year-old.

Also using tired old slang of the month like "mad skillz" is sad.

Thats harsh P-tration...calling out my ballhandling skillz...I dont think i put a Z on it though...so...come on.

What shoulda I have said...whats the new hip phrase?

My Ball handling is better than Kim Kardashians?

I like Bubba's Mom's review better :)

*Im going for a swim....get some air!

Cant wait for the Clinton Fest Part2

Bubba's mom...are you a Sister of the Traveling Pant suits?

Based upon some of what I've read here ... I guess it's a good thing that David Duke wasn't a noted Cubs fan; otherwise he might have had a brilliant political career.

Get a life, people. Get a life.

Villano, very funny.

Culzie, no one but you can weave Kim Kardashian and Hillary Clinton into the same post.

I prefer skirts to pants.

"My Ball handling is better than Kim Kardashians?"

Hahahaaaaa... now that I liked!

EVEN THE CUBS KNOW BETTER!

Derrek Lee sees truth in Obama's statement
By Paul Sullivan | Chicago Tribune reporter
August 27, 2008
PITTSBURGH — Barack Obama's biggest supporter in the Cubs' clubhouse is probably Derrek Lee, who won't be changing his vote because of Obama's description of Cubs fans as beautiful, beer-drinkers who don't come to Wrigley Field for baseball.

"You go to Wrigley Field, you have a beer, beautiful people up there," Obama said in an ESPN interview. "People aren't watching the game. It's not serious. White Sox, that's baseball. South Side."

Lee hadn't heard of Obama's interview, but said the comment doesn't surprise him.

"I mean, he's right," Lee said with a grin. "I think most of the fans there are just there to enjoy the experience, and, uh, drink beer. I mean, is that not true?"

The reputation of Cubs fans has evolved over the years, from the blue-collar image fostered by the bleacher bums in the 1960s to today's Polo-shirted businessman buying tickets through an auction at the CBOE. Ticket prices are among the highest in baseball at Wrigley, and for much of the summer it's inhabited by relative strangers and sightseers.

Lee said he wasn't implying that all Cubs fans are simply there to party and look beautiful.

"I think we have great fans and they love baseball," he said. "But if you go to Wrigley, it's kind of an experience. I think a lot of our fans are tourists, and they're in town on summer vacation and they just want to check out Wrigley."

Okay, once and for all, can someone tell me why supposed Sox Fans give a frogs fat a$$ about the Cubs or what goes on at Wrigley Field?

Keith? Phil? Barack? Anyone?

Some Cub fans need to take a look in the mirror.
Maybe you can ask Derrek Lee about Wrigley or the Cub fans who show up there because I am sure that he knows a lot more about it than you or any other Cub fan.
He is there every single day and can actually remember it since he is not getting intoxicated.
On my way home from work yesterday I heard a Cub fan on Bores and Bernstein whining that Lee should be shown the door for what he said and he would rather have the Cubs not win a World Series then to do it with a player like Lee on the team.

Pathetic

Phil,

You didn't answer my question.

Obama shouldve built a replica of the Cell inside Invesco tonight...that woulda been cool. Instead, he opted for Mt.Olympus!

Sorry I gave you an excuse to talk about yourself. I'm sorry everyone because Culzie made me see the light that it is worse for a traveling politition to forget for a moment where he was compared to a guy who can't recall how many houses he had. The joke was that McCain(McCain McCain McCain) could be evicted 6 times and still have a few houses. I will type slower next time so you'd understand. How was what I said the most rediculous? If you have a stroke( God forbid) how much of your medical do you think your insurance pays? If you aren't allowed to work ever again how much money do you think it takes to provide for the infirmed? And the worst attack in America's history CAME with Bush in office. Wasn't he reading a children's book to 3rd graders when the attack occurred? Man didn't even put the book down. And drastic measures is not selling houses in Illinois (which is different in Arizona I see) and not being able to keep up with your own house. Even the best realtors aren't selling in Illinois. Who is talking about Katrina? And most braggards don't even realize that they are bragging. Braggards like most dullards think they are smart. You should be quoting Otto from Fish Called Wanda because you sound just like him. You tickle yourself and think that people are laughing with you. You grate with just about everyone and then you throw in your B.E.T slang and all is well in your world, dawg. Dawg? You sure you're not Randy Jackson from American Idol with that? I see a man closing in on 40 who has his hat turned sideways and his pants drooping with his Eddie Bauer suspenders acting like he's so hood. "Peep me sum dyme lyrics and put a brotha on blast". WoW, look at me mom I'm so hood. And I will start a poll. How many people thought B Culz was a Republican? Also how many people think Culzie is a closet gangsta?

William, i was thinking about you today when I was driving.

I reflected on how it was actually one of your posts from back in the day that made me mad enough to even post on this site the first time.

So, in reality, you owe the likes of me... to you!

Congrats you just had a bragging baby Culzie!!!

ps...

still just rounding 30ish....so...the hat tilt is slightly justified. No Baggy pants though dude. And...willy...seriously...this is just who I am dude...you can try to fit me into whatever neat little label you need to make your perfectly imperfect world rotate around the sun every day, then I can handle it.

You still my BOYEE!!!!

on a serious note...what did you think of the big speech?

Obama can say he's cheering for a Cardinals/Twins series and it wouldn't matter. Chicagoans vote Democratic. They always have, and they always will.

So quit your blubberin'.

Phil we care about baseball and chicago. Guess what the cubs match that. ROMAN asked the question in another post and brought up the subject in this title. You will never find us commenting on the subject except when asked. Win or lose, the cubs are what they are. We don't try an change them, we simply call it like we see it. Barack WAS ASKED. D-LEE was asked. See Phil, it comes down to that bottom line. Anyone talking about baseball in chicago asks about the cubs. And those of us who know better simply remark - "If you really are into the tourist, plastic, media thing...go to wrigley. But if you really like the game in its purist form...go to the CELL". Nothing personal whatsoever. Just the game and the city from OUR viewpoint.

Bculz, I did a little research today and I didn't make you. You were already on this site but you thought that I had downed you back in June of last year and you've been on frequently since then. Fact of the matter is that you don't know me to say that my world is imperfect or anything like that. I tell you what kind of person you "appear" to be and that's not saying who you are. Outside looking in: you appear to be a bully. at 6'6" you are used to people looking up to you and you seem like the kind of person who tries to dominate a conversation. If people work for you they may laugh at your attempts at humor because you seem to want that so desperately. And that's easy to make the boss happy. You may see yourself as witty but I think people are very tolerant of you because you won't go away. You'd make a great stalker because you are relentless in whatever you do. Even if you're failing at it you won't let up. I think the constant moving around that you've done has unsettled you a lot more than you let on. Kids who don't have set boundaries don't play well with others. You brag about yourself as if everyone else on here is less a person than you are. Even in those early blogs you were such a Bush-backer that it spelled out who you were even when no one wanted you to. Some people feel it's better to side with you on things or else you'd start with the annoying persona. You live for this stuff because maybe your life isn't as rosy as you want it to be. You found a home here and by-golly you're going to be the head of the house hold. Fine go ahead. But with all I've said that's just my opinion. If that's who you are only you know. Go ahead dawg, be witty, like we expect.

You forgot, creates a bitter obsession in people who's initials are WRD.

and

you forgot, has coached and teached and educated and worked with 1000's of kids through sports and camps and basketball lessons and tried to motivate and be positive for hundreds of peers and co workers through motivational speaking, and networking and sharing things like Xango (ask me about it, ill email you a link) and I am a healer and friend to many and dellusional perhaps, but who is not, and well, did we forget anything?

cheer up William...or dont, or IDGAF actually.

its funny, but if I could get half a rise out of half the people, that i get out of you, then, maybe I should take my game pro and see what kinda audience i can garner.

who knows buddy, ive seen lesser men run for office or get columns or coaching jobs, or teaching gigs, or run for office than myself.

and if i do well, trust me, youll get a cabinet position.

bc

I don't mind setting a person straight. But you will have to ask yourself who has the obsession. Whenever someone make good points you always try to dig at them. It's like you get mad because someone had a better thought than you. (That's not hard to do mind you). I'm not just talking about me. You post EVERY single day. Not one day has gone by where you have not made your presence known. You're usually the first no matter what the topic is. I'll go weeks and months without posting and reading anything but you won't ever do that. I tried some levity with you in regard to McCain and you shot back like I shot your dog. My problem is that I don't like d@#$s so it's hard for me to hide my thoughts when I encounter one. Life is too short not to speak your mind. Olive branch : Let's not respond anymore to each other's post and I'm sure everyone else will appreciate that. I won't interject no matter how far-fetched you get. And why don't you do the same. K' Brah? I know we tried that before and you didn't give it a day so I'm asking you to follow thru this time. I know I will.

Rise and Shine!

Bculz, Fact of the matter is that you don't know me to say that my world is imperfect or anything like that.

*Agreed, but then I love how the next 20 lines are you "knowing me" though. LOL

I tell you what kind of person you "appear" to be and that's not saying who you are.

*If double speak were an olympic sport, you would be Bella Corrolee.

Outside looking in: you appear to be a bully. at 6'6" you are used to people looking up to you and you seem like the kind of person who tries to dominate a conversation.

* Nah..I was the friendly giant. Friends with everyone, all groups, the computer guys, the car guys, the jocks, the smokers, the math club, science club..and the pysics club...

If people work for you they may laugh at your attempts at humor because you seem to want that so desperately. And that's easy to make the boss happy.

* The salesmen on my real estate team are 100% funnier than me and we are a 100% commission sales team, so they dont get paid if they dont sell. So they would have no motivation to suffer through my bad attempts at humor. I save that for in here.

You may see yourself as witty but I think people are very tolerant of you because you won't go away.

* Right, and being tolerant makes Keith bust my balls or JB join the pit vipers, or makes Mark come up with a bizzillion ways to annoy me, or your right, Bubba's mom says she loves me, because....she is SOOO ANOYED that she is just saying that to tolerate me. Nah...dude...you got this wrong too.

You'd make a great stalker because you are relentless in whatever you do.

* I love how conviction gets villified in todays age.

Even if you're failing at it you won't let up.

* I repeat, it is sad, that determination and fortitude and a strong belief in ones own ideals is now seen as a NEGATIVE.

I think the constant moving around that you've done has unsettled you a lot more than you let on.

* Good insight, maybe you have something here...although, it would be easy to use as a crutch or an excuse to some of my imperfections, i prefer to say my moving around alot has given me insights and advantages and strengths that most havent had to learn or develope. Like your boy Barrack.

Kids who don't have set boundaries don't play well with others. You brag about yourself as if everyone else on here is less a person than you are.

* This may explain why I have over 200 old HS friends facebooked in less than 5 months since i signed up, and I rarely ever even check that thing.

Even in those early blogs you were such a Bush-backer that it spelled out who you were even when no one wanted you to.

* This is a blog dude, this is where people write stuff? and I cant agree that being a BUSH backer is some how a negative.

Some people feel it's better to side with you on things or else you'd start with the annoying persona.

* Ive already refuted this, and look at you, you dont just agree.

You live for this stuff because maybe your life isn't as rosy as you want it to be.

* Whos is? Ive never said my life is perfect. I wish i had financial security a huge house, a legacy for my kids, etc.etc.

You found a home here and by-golly you're going to be the head of the house hold.

* Weird way of seeing it. But, if thats the case, then what part of the household are you?

Fine go ahead. But with all I've said that's just my opinion.

* And we love you for your opinions. Thats who you are.

If that's who you are only you know. Go ahead dawg, be witty, like we expect.

* The end of this email, is almost nice. Well, I hope I was witty enough. Im sure you will have a long paragraph response to this. But maybe you wont. Again, I dont really care that much.

WRD vs Bculz?

Cage match?

I think I'll sit this one out in a neutral corner.

HOW BOUT THEM CUBS??

The Rich Get Richer, Work Harder
Posted 12 minutes ago in Technology, Arts & Living, Opinion
(Newser) – America’s higher earners are working harder all the time—but it’s not because of PDAs and laptops. It’s because of a fear of being “left behind” as wealth gaps widen among the upper classes, writes Dalton Conley in the New York Times. “Rising inequality causes us to work more to keep up in an economy increasingly dominated by status goods.”

“Since inequality rises exponentially the higher you climb the economic ladder, the better off you are in absolute terms, the more relatively deprived you may feel,” Conley notes. “This is a stunning moment in economic history: At one time we worked hard so that someday we (or our children) wouldn’t have to. Today, the more we earn, the more we work.”

MarkV..very funny!

I'd be open to Town Hall forum style debates...

WillIam?

How bout them Cubs???

They are slumping...geez...we cant win them all.

I hate when yall feud because that means Big-Willy is going to chill for a moment and I enjoy his comments, especially the Bears stuff. I did enjoy your diaglog though.

What would be creepy is if you and BW were really the same guy!
Make a great movie wouldnt it?

Roman responds: William, write me and tell me what happened. I'll mediate. You've been with this blog from the beginning and I don't want you to be alienated.
